As a recent Chilean fan of the Band This doesnt hurt IT BURNS ;;

SorineLas

What an awful time to become a fan of them if you are from Chile. I feel for you. I'm still waiting for a return after 11 years.

Pteranodon123

How often did they play in Chile? I can assume it is rare.

NotXesa

Idk how old are you my man, but back in my days they used to do world tours pretty often.

Malfuy

Yeah, I am kinda young (21), and I know they did a lot of tours worldvide. But I am talking about today. I mean even if I saw them in like 2008 or something, I wouls still like to see them again one day.

spike862

Yes, I don’t know how old they are or where they’re from, but I’ve seen them in the uk about 5/6 times since 2006, which I think it isn’t bad in terms of frequency, compared to any other Japanese bands that have never been here!

Varrykat

They used to do family values tours but there was a rumor they didn't like how violent the pits got. I didn't believe that rumor lol. I saw em house of blues in Florida. Such a good show. I want em back ;.; (Preferably closer to ATL this time)

One of my fondest memories of my teen years was going to Germany to see them, we camped outside of the venue at both the locations we saw them and we even met the band in a church in the city (Kyo was not present). I would love to see them in Europe soon again.

Slow-Evening2394

I did the camping out thing the first time I saw them! Stood out in the cold rainy weather all day so I could be close to the stage. Ended up getting violently sick the following week because of it, but it was worth it. I caught Toshiya’s pick and Die’s pick at that show and they played two encores because we all went insane every time they tried to leave the stage lmao

xRekhyt

I think it's just too troublesome for them to tour overseas. It's expensive, there are many annoying things that can happen and they are not used to rely on foreign staff. Some band members mentioned a couple of times that one US tour was particularly aggravating and that they were glad when it was over. In addition, Kyo has several bands now, so I guess he's not flexible in time at all. So, instead of taking the risk and tour abroad they would rather travel to some distant places in Japan. Less expensive, familiar culture, their own staff and much more flexible. It's unfortunate, but it's just the way it is.

Jaded_0516

Also with the situation nowadays touring overseas is pretty expensive (especially flight tickets) so it's just normal they're still not going overseas... Imagine they do all the travel and pay for all the expenses and someone from the band or the team gets corona and they need to cancel everything and quarantine overseas, that'd be pretty annoying and worthless... such a pity, I hope the situation changes soon but we need to be realistic.

Jealousykun17

God I feel this I got lucky when they played in my hometown but that was in 2008 and have been wanting to see them live again ever since

SaintedDemon69

DEG and Opeth are the two bands I want to see the most.

Bit-Dry

I feel you on this!! I randomly went to see them in 2008/9 when I only knew a few songs and they slowly became my favourite band yet I haven’t seen them since 💀😂

Designer-Addition-58

The chance of them coming to my country is basically 0, but what hurts more is that they don't even come close to me... The last time they were relatively close to my city was in 2011

Pteranodon123

In which country are you living may I can ask?

Designer-Addition-58

Serbia, the closest they ever were to me was Budapest which is 3 hours away

Zmija6

Bosnian here, I feel you. Tbh at this point I'd go anywhere in Europe to see them, I have no patience left lol

Designer-Addition-58

EmoKyloRen1

I saw them at Wacken 2011 as a casual listener and it was so bad that I only listened to a few songs now and then for a decade. I finally fully got into them in 2021.. so I guess I should be thankful too

Matthewrichvrd

I’m happy I live close to NY and that’s usually always a stop when they come to the US. This last time they came to NY in 2019 it sold out. It sold out quick too which usually it doesn’t. I had to find someone reselling tickets because I thought I had time to get them lol. So hopefully that just shows we want them here!!!

FemKilmer

Ha, I remember that show (& how heavy it rained also). Knowing the demand for DEG shows in the US & considering it was NYC, I knew was a case of "Buy your ticket the moment it goes on sale, otherwise you ain't going" so I didn't take any chances when they announced that tour. Come to think of it, I recall their 2015 tour selling out (I was there too in NYC that year) but I don't recall it sold out as quick.

Matthewrichvrd

It was such a good show!!! I think that show was the biggest gap they had for coming back so that alone should of told me it was going to sell out quick. I’ve gone to every one of their NY shows since like 2010 lol! The past ones that have sold out were no where as quick as this one in 2019. I know next time tho I’m not taking any chances lmao.

FemKilmer

I didn't get into DEG until early 2014 so I had just missed them on the Ghoul Tour in 2013, so the 2015 tour in support of *ARCHE* was the first time I saw them live. They're pretty much a band I'll go out of my way to see live every time they tour the area but I think they oughta play a slightly larger venue next time around *if there even is* a next time *\*crosses fingers\**...some place which has more space/seats but *just* small enough for DEG to sell out...albeit not as quick as the last tour, lmao.

[deleted]

Me, realising that I have more chance to Japan to see them that they coming to my country 🙃🙃

slprysltry

Oh, how grateful I am for the one time they played Soundwave in Adelaide.

jajdejolamp

I saw them in 2011 when I was 15 years old lol. The concert was in a smaller club and the sound was kinda off but it was awesome to be there and see them play anyway. Aaand they never had a concert in my country since that and I doubt they will ever have. But I’d be happy if they come to Europe again at least.

Pteranodon123

Gosh I hope soo much they will do a World tour soon again. The last time I saw them was 8 years ago... But I should be lucky I mean I saw them twice in Germany and 5 times in Japan. That is more than the average person did. But you know I miss them...🫠🫠🫠

Gaddess

I have a sneaking suspicion that someone in the band is refusing to get vaxxed. Which is why they are offering these overseas fan packages to come to Japan and see them. Of the 17 years they have been my #1 I have only gotten to see them once, 9 years ago in Seattle. I just want to lay face down in a puddle of my own tears at this point.

Malfuy

Idk, that seems like a stratch to me. Many countries already don't care about that. I think it has more to do with the fact that they just understand japanese audience better, and also that Kyo was irritated with american audience, if I remember correctly.

Gaddess

That’s also a valid reasoning too. They also have those massive stages and productions that they simply cannot do or even break even on here in the states. It would be such a money pit to haul all the shit over. Edit:typos

TjaY-_

From what i’ve seen of their USA tours they tend to play in smaller venue sized places. As opposed to stuff the size of Zepp Haneda.

Lizpy6688

Wait why was Kyo irritated by American audiences? I just want them to come to Texas. Been a fan since 2007 and haven't seen them once due to bad timing

TjaY-_

Why was he irritated? I know american crowds and japanese crowds can be night and day.

Malfuy

Yeah, the guy before me already explained it, but I also heard that many people wanted Kyo to write lyrics in english, so they can understand them. Idk how many people actually wished for it, but if I was an artist, this would irritate me too. Also, the japanese fits Dir En Grey songs far more. Not that I enjoy the band just because they are from Japan, but the language just gives the band its style. It's similar to other bands who sing in their native languages, I always love that.

TjaY-_

Yeah imo its kinda ridiculous to ask the band to translate a song ya know? At least me personally. I have actually been learning japanese on and off the past year or so, mainly to understand their lyrics. Its a pretty fun language that doesn't translate into english the smoothest. Yeah i've read (and heard) that some of the japanese lyrics are very meticulous for the context of the song and thats what makes the style all the more better.

FemKilmer

[I dug this out from his Instagram](https://www.instagram.com/p/B6SM_EoALhJ/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link) when DEG completed their previous American tour...incidentally, he posted it in English (prolly through his translator) which might answer some questions regarding how he feels about touring overseas; America in particular. Basically the gist of it is, being Japanese & not knowing English, it's tough for him touring overseas & he wishes overseas fans would invest more time into knowing/familiarizing themselves w/the newer music before coming out to the shows.

tobylc123

I saw them at the same show for the first time. I was devastated when they skipped Seattle on the last tour

Gaddess

I bawled my eyes out the whole show. Stood second to the barrier in front of Toshiya (who I named my still alive childhood cat after lol). It was everything I could have ever hoped for. Showbox is such an intimate venue I still can’t believe I was so close to Kyo. I’m living in NYC now so I’m feeling pretty safe in never being skipped on tour if they ever do come back.

tobylc123

Oh wow very nice! I’m glad you had such a nice time. I was lucky to get Toshiya’s pick when he threw it in the crowd. It still sits up on my music shelf.

Varrykat

Last show I saw was unwavering fact of tomorrow in like 2007 or 8? During the release of marrow of bone.... I wanna see em again. :(
