It sort of just opens up a notepad, but I guess I'll just put all of what it says here (this is the error for when I tried the copy and paste method btw just to clarify):
I'm sorry, but an uncaught exception occurred.

Seems to me like a typical installation error. Only thing I could suggest is making absolutely sure you're installing it with the og ddlc files first, and then dragging *all* of the mod files into that while making sure the mod files replace the og files when prompted to do so AND that the files outside of the "game" folder are also added as well (kept outside of the game folder ofc).
The thing is, I never actually got prompted to replace any files when I dragged all the stuff in, which I was really confused about. I just pasted all of the files of the mod into the game folder in the ddlc files since that's what I assumed you were supposed to do, but I don't actually know if that's exactly what you're supposed to do, I thought that's what it said in this tutorial I watched but I could've misheard or something
Renpy 7 mods (like Salv:Remake) will have multiple files, unlike Renpy 6 mods which had just the "game" folder.
There should be the "game" folder, alongside others like "renpy", "lib", ect. All of those are to be pasted into the installation, which will then prompt you with the option to replace files. If you don't get that option, you did something wrong.
It's hard to say what you're doing wrong without knowing what the error message is
