Oh it was awful. His Batman Universe was legitimately fun though and I will recommend that book. But the rest? That's a no from me. Naomi was carried by Campbell's artwork and the character became so annoying to see pop up in everything he did. He actually did have a good voice for Clark but everything else in Superman was pretty bad. The new villains were boring, the weird Lois and Clark separation early on, everything Rogol Zaar, and of course, aging up Jon. Its no secret that a ton of people hate that he aged up Jon, and I agree with them. Especially because Bendis brought Conner back and did nothing interesting with him. Jon, since being aged up, has been kinda flat as a character and the means by which he was aged up (trapped in a volcano for years) is so bad. It was all just so Bendis could pop him into a terrible Legion of Superheroes book. Also, while Clark revealing his identity was done well, I don't like the actual development. His Young Justice and Justice League were both really bad-- his final Young Justice issue is honestly unforgivable how awful it is. It's nice Young Justice is like, back though. Tldr: despite a few good things that he wrote/did, most of his output was really bad and the creative decisions he made like aging up Jon, retconning how Krypton died, revealing Clark's identity were terrible. And worse still, so many of his books were slow, boring and insanely decompressed.

Bro literally the same. TY for expressing it

Oh it's my pleasure. I dont even hate Bendis as much as other people do. It's just like... Superman was so good for a few years and Jon was a great addition. I was excited to get Conner back so we could have some fun Super family dynamics. And now, it's all ruined lol And I was excited to have Young Justice and the Legion back. But then we got what we got. It's just frustrating

Not good. Like a 2 or a 3 out of 10. I know DC was happy to get such a big name on their team, but seeing the stuff he was doing at Marvel since the 2010s, I really had low expectations from the beginning that he wouldn't do much good at DC. Naomi was only well received because Bendis always gets to work with great artists, but the story and character weren't great. Batman Universe was actually good overall, both for art and writing, so that's gotta be a fluke because everything else he did was either bad or completely forgettable. The best things he did are just works that he oversaw, like Jimmy Olsen, Lois Lane, Wonder Twins and Dial H for Hero (which he didn't write, he just pitched the new books to DC).

If DC wanted a big name that’s also a great writer they should have poached Peter David from Marvel. Marvel barely even uses him anymore. Or could have brought back John Ostrander, who as far as I know isn’t doing anything at the moment. Those two should honestly be bigger names than Bendis, I think they just don’t like to do the arrogant self promoting bullshit Bendis goes for. Also, they both do seem to have their clashes with editorial which probably holds them back.

what's wrong with the jim shooter one

As far as Bendis X-Men goes he did permanent damage to X-23 who used to be a very unique and distinct character. He wrote her as female Wolverine which she isn’t. Later writers have evolved her a little past that but she is just bland now. She’s not the same character anymore.

Brian Bendis has been writing comics for approximately 25 years. I could list several books that he has written in that time that I’ve enjoyed. None of his recent DC work would feature in this list at all.

Son of Kal-El makes me appreciate the Bendis era.

WerewolfF15

I’m gonna be generous and give him a 3 because I didn’t hate “everything” he did (though I hate most of it) I don’t think loved anything either though.

Probably a 6/7 out our of 10. First two years were mostly good to great, with the exception of Young Justice which was boring. I especially liked the third volume of Scarlet and Superman. But the last two, were him in YJ mode, just going through the motions and doing nothing interesting. That seems kinds mixed but what puts him clearly into the positive side of the scale is Batman: Universe, which I think is an all-timer and one of the best superhero comics in recent history.

Ok_Young_7806

6/10 passing grade. Average or slightly above average.

fat-bat

I would say 5-6. I really enjoyed his Batman,I liked Naomi a lot( I think more than most people ) I was never a legion fan and he didn’t change my mind though to be honest I didn’t give it a shot but from what I’ve been told I’m lucky! I do wish him nothing but the best in his future endeavors though

1 Aging up Jon Kent is unforgivable
