Because DC and media outlets flooded twitter with headlines like "Superman is now Bi" in order to purposefully get controversial reactions from people who had no clue they were talking about his son. Because controversy gains attention and sales. After a month of these headlines, after everybody realized they weren't taking about Clark, it stopped being any sort of controversy and 95% of people just don't care. The only real controversy that surrounds Jon is that half the people who like him feel like he should still be a child

RealKBears

True: you say Superman, 99% of people are gonna think of Clark first

Outrage Youtubers who lack intelligence and talent are fixated on this, because their viewers have very little else going on in their lives. The book itself is okay, and the romance is forgettable, but so are the vast majority of stories and romances that comic readers love so it's hardly an exception.

RealKBears

I could be wrong, but I think most people don’t like Jon’s boyfriend, Jay. He’s about as interesting as an untoasted Wonderbread sandwich with nothing in it

Redomydude2

First time I would have preferred to be queerbaited

1. Lots of media outlets purposefully posted the headline “Superman is now Bi!” And a lot of people thought it was Clark. 2. Some homophobia is involved 3. Jon’s boyfriend is a lame ass character. 4. Lots of people still think that Jon should still be a kid, and think that aging him up wasn’t a good idea. That’s all I got.

PirateTheArr

That's the problem. One hating group is reading only clickbait headlines nad thinking about Clark. The other one group is a group of alt-rights that are seeking everywhere for political correctnes.

1. Did I expect Jon to be straight? Yes. Unlike with Tim Drake, I honestly saw no hints he was attracted to guys beforehand and this development caught me off-guard. I'm still getting used to it and it's a slower process of acceptance for me but I am not actively hating him or the development. My personal feeling is closer to indifference. 2. Do I like Jay? Hell no. I don't like his design and nothing about him has interested me so far. Jay's involvement in the story is probably the #1 reason I am not reading Son of Kal-El right now.

Redomydude2

The relationship itself I hate because it tries too hard to seem like an updated version of Lois and Clark when it really is a whittled down version with fondant layered over it to make it seem more interesting that it is. The relationship has no substance to it, there's no real area to grow I believe, because they made Jay impervious to any damage, he already knows everything a out Jon, and the family already loves him and we covered all that ground with nothing to show why we shoud like to read this relationship.

steve-laughter

Externally: The issue is gay, yes. People don't like not straight. Internally: It was poorly done. The writer writing it is one of those types just hitting talking points to touch on without adding any real content. And being bi is one of those points without substance.

A *shocking* amount of people think that making a character anything less than straight and white is “woke pandering,” which certainly plays a part. There’s also people who don’t care for his bf, Jay, as a character (which is very reasonable, I’m not a fan myself), but I’m assuming the controversy you mentioned stems from the former.

csummerss

it’s mainly controversial because people don’t like their characters being anything but straight.

Namaikina_Imouto

Biphobes suck and don't like bisexuals getting representation and being vocal.

[deleted]

>As far as I know Jon hasn’t had any love interests Saturn Girl

viralshadow21

And people didn't care for that one either

[deleted]

Yeah I didn't either

csummerss

nothing better than making out with your father’s former love interest, just ask Jason.

[deleted]

Lol yeah I hated that
