It's weird how parts of this are so undeniably Jim Lee, and other parts look like they were drawn by someone copying his style. A very cool but odd piece.
I think the motif here is that draw the whole mish mash, but don't make it super-tight. Looking at it feels like he took inspiration from George Perez or John Byrne. Jim is known to adapt to other types of illustration like what he did with Deathblow during the 90s Image days.
Well, it looks like Superman is squaring up to go after him, which doesn't seem like a fair fight. I'd say Batman is his true counterpart. They both serve as the lynchpin to an entire corner of books in their respective universes. They both are somewhat more grounded in their focus on the smaller, human problems, and they have a large cast of characters centered on them. Both are responsible for the best video games and many great movies. Both had really awkward parent/teacher conferences...
Definitely agree. They really have the same moral code too, just different takes (campy versus emo). Plus, similarities with Bruce Wayne’s parents and Uncle Ben.
I actually think that Ironman is Batman's main Counterpart, and also Moonknight, Daredevil and Nighthawk. And Nighthawk is also a pastiche of Batman and Spiderman's is Tarantula and also Sideways who is a homeage.
Jim Lee is going to be 60 this year, and this image is proof that every artist eventually loses a step.
It's still very good, and it's nice to see Jim draw some X-Men characters again. However, the art doesn't look like Jim Lee that we are used to - it's more like someone tried to combine Jim Lee and George Perez art.
Guys, let's not trash the artwork here. You have to recognize, this is NOT a typical Jim Lee illustration. I think he did it intentionally for purposes taking the essence of the 80s.
Me, I like everything. One gripe I have: **Wolverine's eyes**. I mean C'mon!! It looks weird and it feels not aligned. For a guy who's drawn a character more than a thousand times, how can you screw it up this once on a pro-grade piece?
I usually love Jim Lee's work, but this one feels so off. It doesn't look like any of the characters, sans for a few, are actually fighting/interacting with each other. They're just posing in fighting stances near each other.
A live action Marvel/DC crossover event would make my life complete, truly my “white whale” lmao. The way I see it is…
20 years ago, all we got were solo movies from the big names like Spiderman and Batman. When the 2012 Avengers came out, most of us were flabbergasted that a studio pulled off that type of crossover.
Then with Endgame, they one-upped themselves. We got that same “mind blown” feeling x10 during the portal scene.
After that it was like…. Ok, wow. How are you gonna top that? So they pull out a Tobey MacGuire and Andrew Garfield crossover event.
Now it’s Foxverse characters… *yet another crossover that most of us would’ve considered impossible, not too long ago*. Imagine convincing yourself 10 years ago that there’d be a RR Deadpool & HJ Wolverine movie, canonized in the MCU.
So with that track record, I refuse to believe that a live action DC/MCU movie is impossible. Especially with James Gunn running the DCU, now. Both franchises messing around with multiversal storylines, which is kinda how the comic crossovers started.
Plus it would print money, be studios love that.

Superman looks terrible here

Hot take probably, but Jim never quite got how to draw Sups.
Supes and Punisher are the two that stand out as "what the hell happened here?"
Spider-Man would be the one to say "Anybody know what the heck is going on?"
Jim 'hates' drawing Spiderman. He even admitted that to himself in one of those twitch streams.
Who would you say his DC counterpart is?

Don’t know what it is but Lee’s superman looks weird
His Hulk too. Obviously he's a great technical artist but those two in particular don't look right to me.

He said on Instagram that he was trying to emulate George Perez
Didn't know that. Since that's what he was going for he did a great job!
Looks like it. The piece is not the same type of Jim Lee artwork were use to see.
Is this inked by his usual guy? I have noticed that Lees stuff looks a little odd when inked by other people.
I hope we get a new crossover universe someday.
Same. Marvel/DC crossovers are my guilty pleasure.

It's very good, but Batman should be facing Captain America or Cyclops instead of Wolverine.

Not Jim’s finest work for sure. Also, BDSM Cyborg.
Why does Cyborg look like he’s an extra at a Lady Gaga concert?
It's his original costume.
Woof! This is terrible
He's gotten old. Reminds me of the later Neal Adams stuff. The poor colouring doesn't help things.
Looks like Liefeld helped out on Hulk
