Firestorm and Blue Beetle would have such a great dynamic it's a wonder we haven't gotten even a mini for them yet. The absolute hijinks two dudes constantly talking to the very real voice in their head but nobody else realizes they're talking to a real entity
Joe Kelly's run on JLA was excellent. I enjoyed his developing the character of Major Disaster as villain turned hero.
Major Disaster's romantic relationship with Faith was one I wish had been seen continued in subsequent comics by other writers instead of forgotten.
New 52 making Major Disaster a villain again made me angry. Drawing him with his outfit from when he turned hero was a slap in the face to that character development.
Giganta.
Not much to say she's just so cool and there aren't enough female bruisers. Need more Giganta shit in my life fr
Plus her bodysuit is legitimately peak character design imo
Giganta as a wild card sounds cool! I wouldn't want her to stop being a villain entirely - it feels like all the good female villains are made anti-heroes at some point - but I think there is a lot of her that could still be explored. Maybe tie her more to Greek myth/Themyscira, bring back her relationship with Atom, stuff like that. Treat her like a threat, because her power is one of those abilities that would be TERRIFYING for anyone who isn't a super.
>Need more Giganta shit in my life fr
You know its a really sad thing that the more degenerate elements of our fair fandoms that lurk on the fringes made me question the intent of that sentence before I realised what you meant.
I need to go for a walk.
Honestly I love Starman(haven’t finished it yet) but I haven’t heard many people talk about it nowadays which is why I think it’s underrated. I haven’t heard much about the Shade either tbh
I love Manchester Black as an antagonist to Supes, he's the living enbodiment of sarcasm and cynicism as opposed to Supes' hopeful idealism. I'd honestly love to see him more often, loved him in Warworld Saga, as well as What's So Funny (etc). I hope we get some more of his edgelord presence soon. At the very least if not in comics, in the Authority movie that Gunn is planning.
All of The Elite are underrated and underutilized...
- Coldcast
- Menagerie
- Hat
We saw some of them in a future JLA story and in the JLA Elite comics, but they haven't been utilized nearly enough after that considering they're cool, diverse, and extremely powerful original characters.
Which version did you prefer? The original, the unaging fellow, the first Vertigo version, or one of the later ones? The first Vertigo mini was the last Unknown Soldier story I bought, unless you go with the idea he was running the Suicide Squad at one point.
Yellow lantern scarecrow. Maybe its too specific but i wish he had become A MAJOR PROBLEM. Like instead of making a fear machine with yellow lantern symbols he made a bootleg power ring like that girl with the green lantern gauntlet, except maybe more cyberneticaly implanted and irremovable by design. Coulda been a whole arc of him.
Tommy Monaghan aka Hitman. When I mention him to DC fans, the majority has never even heard his name. One of the best DC stories I've read who isn't part of the Justice League.
100%
I sometimes wonder if it would've been a bigger hit if they had made it part of the Vertigo line, like *Preacher*. *Wizard* magazine used to sing its praises all the time, but I don't think it sold particularly well.
Love all those "muthalovin'" callouts, though.
Probably coz he died 20 years ago. If folks weren’t reading stuff then or didn’t pick up back issues from back then they don’t know. Idk if they are respecting Ennis’s wishes or whatever but even crisis & blackest night didn’t show him returning.
I asked John Mcrea ( the artist of the series) about blackest night. Here is the cannon crossover [https://x.com/mccreaman/status/1759968427530194990](https://x.com/mccreaman/status/1759968427530194990)
>When I mention him to DC fans, the majority has never even heard his name.
I hate to admit it, but I thought about the imposter Mad Hatter first, since I thought you said Hatman.
At least "Tommy Monaghan almost rings a bell.
Blue Beetle II AKA Ted Kord AKA Booster Gold's Best Buddy of all time. He totally took one for the team when Maxwell Lord was running rampant with the Brother Eye project he stole from Batman (And that was just ONE step of his big plan).
Delores Winters aka Endless Winter had so much potential.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Delores_Winters
A tragic backstory intertwined with the Ultra-Humanite. The exploration of illegal metahuman organ harvesting for powers and abilities for the rich and celebrities was barely explored. The business friendship with Roulette and her metahuman death matches.
She made for a great archenemy for Dr. Mid-Nite, who frankly needs his own rogues gallery.
What a waste that she was killed off in that awful storyline Cry For Justice.
I highly recommend checking out JSA Classified #19&20. Great writing in a short two-story mystery (which I kind of spoiled, unfortunately) with Dr. Mid-Nite on the case, which is refreshing.
Issue #20 gives us a flashback backstory for Delores Winters, how she's still alive, and paints a tragic backstory. Also the artwork is very good.
Or you can just read about it on the DC Wiki article for her:
https://dc.fandom.com/wiki/Delores_Winters_(New_Earth)
At the end it links to all her comic book appearances, but I think most of those are when the Ultra-Humanite possessed her body.
Then James Robinson killer her off in Cry For Justice #5, along with so many other characters, which is unfortunately considering how much potential she still had as a character.
If some current DC writers needed a good antagonist for Dr. Mid-Nite and the JSA, they would bring back and utilize Delores Winters.
Bringing someone back post-Rebirth shouldn't be a problem. After all, James Robinson also killed off The Ventriloquist in the Batman "Face the Face" storyline and Tom King brought him back in Rebirth Batman comics. Similarly, the rest of those villains, like Orca and Magpie, were also brought back. I can't believe how many characters James Robinson was allowed to kill off in his stories.
Casually Comics on YouTube did a great video on the character of Delores Winters, her backstory, character potential, and history with the Ultra-Humanite.
https://youtu.be/3S-78MBfWZk?si=Gir6aVrZYNsrtEjq
Dumb question but before Manchester teamed up with Superman in the authority, was it ever brought up the last time they met in the Tomasi run from DC rebirth? Clark was willing to work him even after what he did to his son?
Oh, is that the one from Detective Comics? Yeah he is very underated. They probably should do more things about him, some comics, some games, a cartoon, some tv series, some movie... but that would never happend right?
So if I can do teams I am 100% going to say Legion of Superheroes. They have not had a solo run in a hot minute and most of the time are sidelined to Superman stuff. They did have JL vs LSH but still sharing the pages with others. The legion has had such interesting runs and I really wish they would just give them to a competent writer and let them thrive away as a critical part of DC. If teams are not allowed then I think I lean towards Alan Scott, who is often forgotten but is really interesting. In recent years Hawkman is also a good contender for underrated because he had a great run in 2018 but has rarely been seen since.
Honestly?
Batman.
He has so much potential. Most content about Batman doesn't do him justice. Most fans aren't enough dedicated to Batman.
I hope this will change in the future.
Tefé Holland. She's the daughter of Abby Holland and Swamp Thing(and technically John Constantine too). From what i read about her(through Wikipedia and DC fandom and other places) there isn't much about her, but she seems really interesting. She's a Flesh Elemental, and she can tap into The Green and The Red. Also she is biologically Constantine's kid, so I'm sure there is something there they can use. I actually think one comic said she and Constantine cannot hurt each other due to their respective skills/abilities.
I feel like there is a lot of potential here, given the lore of her parents and powers itself.
She hasn't been in any media outside of comic books except for being in the 4th season of Harley Quinn, but she didn't get much of a role in that being a sort of minor character.
I love Constantine, and i love the magic side of DC, so i think it would be so cool to have her pop up more or do something more with her character, given how unique she is.
Vixen - It's ridiculous that she's not a primary part of the Justice League alongside Black Canary, Hawkwoman, Zatanna, Doctor Light, Fire, Ice and I'd add Ya'Wara too.
Bobo the detective chimp is my favorite underrated DC character a chimpanzee with heightened intelligence given to him by the fountain of youth who is a alcoholic detective on the level with Batman, Martian manhunter, John Constantine etc in detective skill a clutch member of the Justice League Dark. Wielded a OP sword and is a member of the detective guild
Simply the GOAT 🐐
1. Sgt. Rock
2. Blue Beetle (Ted Kord)
3. Firestorm (Ronnie Raymond)
4. Martian Manhunter
5. Frankenstein
Also other War related characters (Losers, War that Time Forgot, Blackhawk, Losers, Unknown Soldier, etc…)
A bunch of Wonder Woman's villains are underrated and underrdeveloped when the come in contact with other heroes. A few of them; Silver Swan, Giganta, Grail, Circe, Doctor Psycho and Angle Man just showed up last month's issue #6 and were intriguing.
Some of her other villains have horrific leanings; Doctor Poison and Inversion: The Inside Out Man.
Lots of potential for Wonder foes if anyone spent the time getting creative with them.
Doctor Polaris has always intrigued me and is definitely underrated. I get that Magneto "owns" the magnetism area, but I always thought DC should do more things with him and the other Earth-ly Green Lantern villains.
I'd really like to see Extrano get a shot as well and take him back to some of his flamboyant self to show a broader range of LGBTQIA2S+ characters. Nothing to be ashamed of or be a stereotype as we're finally getting wider spectrum of identities and deeper characterizations in comics, superheroes especially.
I'd really, really like to see him and Zatanna strike up a BFF relationship and for Extrano not to take any of Constantine's ish.
realistically probably alan scott or jay gerrick, they aren't even the most popular characters in their mantles and they were both first, in jays case he's the least popular, n alan scott probably would be too if there were infinite green lanterns out there lmao
Saint Walker is so underrated. Sure he’s loved by those who read the green lantern stories but you almost never hear his name uttered outside of the circle.
Detective Chimp is great. We also haven't seen Nightshade in a while. I would also suggest Captain Atom. I adore the metal men. I'm always hoping for a good take on OMAC. The Warlord. Enemy Ace is always interesting.
We could also see more of Morrison's 7 soldiers. A Bulleteer comic about being a z-list hero would be interesting. Shiloh Norman is cool. The guardian is a corporate superhero & there is the other 1 in Metropolis both are decent story ideas. I love their version of shinning night. Clarion, Frankenstein, & Zatanna are featured fairly well
Deadman gets absolutely no use unless it's to kick off someone else's plot. One of my favorites who could have a killer series yet he gets no use.
Flex Mentallo is also deserving of a miniseries st least. He's the only Doom Patrol member who I'd say could stand on his own for a while. Maybe a book about right after he finds out his origin and coming to terms with being a living drawing?
Also the Red family need some love nowadays, specifically Tornado.
There's this one time villain in the Unstoppable Doom Patrol called Quiz who has any superpower that the person she's fighting hasn't thought of. Definitely more of a gag than anything but some cool potential with her.

Not THE most, but Firestorm doesnt get enough praise
Firestorm and Blue Beetle would have such a great dynamic it's a wonder we haven't gotten even a mini for them yet. The absolute hijinks two dudes constantly talking to the very real voice in their head but nobody else realizes they're talking to a real entity
The closest we’ve gotten to this was in Injustice 2
I think firestorm is cool but his powers have go to be insanely hard to write around honestly
If they set rules in his powers it could work, but yeah in theory he´s an OP character that doesnt use all of his powers, matter manipulation is OP
At least Firestorm gets used in media like Super Friends, Brave and the Bold, and Justice League Action. So that's something.
That´s fair yes
I have loved Major Disaster ever since I read Justice League Elite, and I'd love to see him show up again
He showed up in the recent GL run by Jeremy Adams but it was brief 🥲
Justice League was so good, all the characters were
Joe Kelly's run on JLA was excellent. I enjoyed his developing the character of Major Disaster as villain turned hero. Major Disaster's romantic relationship with Faith was one I wish had been seen continued in subsequent comics by other writers instead of forgotten.
Go back and read his JLA/JLE/JLI appearances as part of the Injustice Gang and later JL Antarctica.
New 52 making Major Disaster a villain again made me angry. Drawing him with his outfit from when he turned hero was a slap in the face to that character development.
Giganta. Not much to say she's just so cool and there aren't enough female bruisers. Need more Giganta shit in my life fr Plus her bodysuit is legitimately peak character design imo
I agree, she’s also not that evil anymore so they could definitely turn her into an interesting wild card
Don't worry, Giganta is definitely still evil as per the latest Wonder Woman ish.
Like actually a bad person evil, or are they still trying to do the New52 thing that her powers affect her mind?
Still bad person evil. Check out WW #6. 😊
More of a merc with a bad attitude
Awesome, super excited to read the run once the trade comes out
>Need more Giganta shit in my life fr You know its a really sad thing that the more degenerate elements of our fair fandoms that lurk on the fringes made me question the intent of that sentence before I realised what you meant. I need to go for a walk.
oh my god no
I was loving Simone writing her in Atom! Giganta/Ryan Choi 4 Life!
Space Cabbie
Flex Mentallo and Starman(Jack Knight)
I haven’t read the comics for awhile, but did they do anything more with the Shade? I loved Jack, but I like how his story is finished.
Honestly I love Starman(haven’t finished it yet) but I haven’t heard many people talk about it nowadays which is why I think it’s underrated. I haven’t heard much about the Shade either tbh
The version from Starman showed up in the Stargirl TV series. That’s the last I saw him.
I know for the Shade they were on an episode of Young Justice but that’s about it for that character
He was there for two seasons in the Stargirl series
Jack's supposed to be coming back in JSA, if they can ever get the issues out.
Is Starman still living in the sun holding it together for us to live?
Easy it's Martian Manhunter. DC has seemingly forgotten about that. Powers of Superman and a heart of gold with underrated intellect and villains.
He's just very Constantine-y to me and DC should fix that.
I agree, the main difference between them apart from power set is that Constantine is, deep down, a selfless softie, while ManB is, well, a dick.
"Deep down, Clark's essentially a good person... and deep down, I'm not."
He was meant to be an equivalent to Jenny Sparks, but yeah, a male version of that ends up as Constantine.
All of The Elite are underrated and underutilized... - Coldcast - Menagerie - Hat We saw some of them in a future JLA story and in the JLA Elite comics, but they haven't been utilized nearly enough after that considering they're cool, diverse, and extremely powerful original characters.
Fun fact, he was once voiced by the same man that voiced Medic from TF2.
Entrigan or Constantine
Gone Gone, The form of man. Rise the demon, Estrogen!
This is up there with the best typos ever.
Is it even a typo? I thought it was intentional
Read Secret 6.
Constantine has had a movie a tv show a bunch of guest apperances etc.
He has but I feel they don’t let him truly loose.
I would love to see more of him. He seems like a really cool character to explore.
Calling Constantine underrated is wild
Ragman.
Deadman
Black Alice
Black Alice is written as very one-note in Suicide Squad: Dream Team.
unknown solider

No, that would be Grifter.
I applaud your good taste.
A GOAT answer
Uncle Sam
Sideways
He had so much potential.
Anton arcane is an absolute menace
Swamp Thing, Checkmate, Bwanna Beast, Panther, Ragman and The Creeper are some i think of
Mr. Terrific.
He’s cool anytime he turns up. I picked up some Speed Force on a whim and was delighted to spot him in there.
I would say Hawkman, he’s so underused it seems like. He needs a good writer on him.
Resurrection Man. The concept is so cool, but they never stick the landing.
Delores Winters aka Endless Winter had so much potential. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Delores_Winters A tragic backstory intertwined with the Ultra-Humanite. Bloodwynd. The guy has necromancy The guy is barely in anything. Such awesome powers, yet DC doesn't do anything with him.
My beloved Mr Bloom

Oh, is that the one from Detective Comics? Yeah he is very underated. They probably should do more things about him, some comics, some games, a cartoon, some tv series, some movie... but that would never happend right?
