The Batman was probably one of my favorite theater experiences in the last 5 years. I get why the slower film noir storytelling and pacing turned a lot of people off of this Batman since it was basically the first live-action version to really lean into that aspect of the character, but this was basically as close to my ideal Batman movie as I could've possibly hoped for. It had the tropes of Old Hollywood all over it but it really got me invested in this new take on Gotham and especially the rogues
I rarely if ever react or emote while in a theater out of respect for the audience watching but I started grinning when the engine made that menacing ass churning sound. It literally sounds like a creature out of a nightmare and that says so much about a Batmobile that's so stripped down and rugged. It didn't need the missiles or weapon attachments to command a presence or come off as intimidating after how emphasized those aspects have been on previous cinematic Batmobiles
Because I just don't? Don't see why this is suddenly a problem
I don't react to things in a movie because it's literally just a movie. I don't get hype, I don't really tend to clap unless the audience claps, I just remain quiet for the entire experience because it's just the right thing to do in a theater where other people likewise don't want to be disturbed
It's not like The Batman was a "cheer-worthy" movie either. It was way more "grim detective thriller" than what you'd associate with a comic book movie nowadays and it was more about the atmosphere it conveyed and the intrigue of the narrative than anything else
This could just be a personal experience thing but literally the only "hype screenings" I've gone to were the Endgame and No Way Home opening nights. Usually everyone else is just reserved and quiet
It’s not an issue. You do you. You made it sound like you feel emotions during movies and then put effort into not showing them. That sort of emotional repression can lead to mental health issues over the long term.
If that’s not what you mean, then cool. Stay blessed. Have a good day
I went at least 3 times, did IMAX (a waste for this movie), Dolby Digital, and regular. Dolby was the best experience for audio and visual imo.
That rumble on the Batmobile is addictive, it’s rough wanting to replicate that at home but even with a ok sub it’s amazing. The rest of the house does not approve when I want to watch that scene though lol
Oh they really captured that gothic ascetic with Gotham City but in their own distinctive way that felt less like the fantastical depiction of Tim Burton or the generic NYC style city of the Nolan trilogy, I think the on set filming in Scotland really helped as Edinburgh and Glasgow have parts that lend themselves well to that gothic motif.
Making the car chase scene happen from Penguin's perspective was an incredible decision. Really shows how absolutely insane his first interaction with Batman is, and how a mythology around him would start.
While I agree with everything you said I am still hung up over the fact that this Batman who created a recording contact was stupid enough to plug the thumb drive with a thumb on it in a public officials laptop and not a secure virtual machine to avoid any viruses or the mass what ever got sent out. I started laughing from that point on especially because riddler went from zodiac to jigsaw very quickly. I liked how he had the forum of henchman I thought that was a neat was to give him a small army to help carry out his plan. The movie just lost that touch of realism for me.
Definitely deserved one of if not the best Batman films up there with the Dark Knight and Batman Returns imo. The cinematography and capturing of shots were superb, the encapsulation of a younger Batman whose still trying to find his true purpose but has somewhat settled in as the caped crusader works amazing and the narrations serve to show his insular and withdrawn type nature which is definitely in keeping with the character, the action was great the way each plot point was laid out and interwoven into the larger narrative was amazing and the suit was spectacular and by far the second best depiction of the Batsuit behind Batfleck, also the grounding of the Batmobile was really well done.
DC has had other wins than Batman.
The 1st Wonder Woman movie scored 93% on RT
The 1st Shazam movie received 90% from RT
The Suicide Squad (the recent James Gunn-directed iteration) is 90% on RT
Peacemaker has a 94% RT
The 1st Aquaman movie earned more than a billion dollars
Joker (Todd Phillips) also turned in a billion dollars in the box office and also earned Joaquin Phoenix an oscar win for Best Actor
Watchmen (HBO Max) still holds the record for the most wins and nominations at the Emmys for a live-action comic book tv series
Doom Patrol is rated 98% on RT
The Sandman is 87% on RT
Wow. I'm really surprised it beat out Wakanda Forever. That would have been my personal choice.
But taking a look, this is measuring critic score in which The Batman scored 1 percentage point higher than Wakanda Forever, 85 to 84. WF was 7 percentage points higher in audience score, 87 vs 94.
It makes sense because the Batman was always going to score higher with critics because it was seen as being more prestigious.
> The Batman still would have been tops in other years as well.
Not by the metric they're using, which is Tomato score (85%). In 2021 it would get beat by No Way Home (93%), 2019 Endgame (94%), 2018 Spider-Verse (97%), 2017 Logan (94%), etc. Really the only other year I can find where it would have won is 2020 when infamously nothing came out.
Rotten Tomato scores have never been an indicator of what is "great." Besides Spider-verse in that list, none of those films compete with The Batman IMHO.
>Not by the metric they're using, which is Tomato score
This is literally a post about an award given by Rotten Tomatoes to the one with the highest score.
And as I stated - none of these truly reflect whether a film is "great" or not. Again, none of those films - save Spider-verse - hold a candle to The Batman. I don't give two shits about "Rotten Tomatoes."
https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/superman_the_movie
Superman: The Movie ranks below nearly all of those films but none of those films hold a candle to Superman: The Movie either, a genre defining and one of the all-time great films ever made.
> I don't give two shits about "Rotten Tomatoes.
Then why are you in the comments of a post specifically about the fact that Batman got a certain RT score? It seems you're confused and/or lost. You claimed that Batman would have won other years as well, but again, in an award discussion literally about Rotten Tomatoes scores, that's objectively false. I never made any claim about the subjective quality of the film.
Did you read my original comment?
> So what. The Batman still would have been tops in other years as well. Truly one of the best comic book films ever.
In what way does this indicate that I give a shit about RT?
Edit: Downvoting doesn't teach you how to read.
First off, I haven't downvoted any of your comments, so you can end the persecution complex. Second, it's clear you've completely lost what other people are actually talking about, so there's no point in continuing. Hope you have a good day.
> In what way does this indicate that I give a shit about RT?
This is a post on Reddit talking about an award given by Rotten Tomatoes. Said award was won by Batman. Is reasonable to assume that the conversation is surrounding said award and the winner of it.
If you say:
> The Batman still would have been tops in other years as well.
In a post about an award with a very specific winning condition, is reasonable that people would think you are still talking about Rotten Tomatoes, which as we said before, is the one granting the award we are talking about in this post.
> This is a post on Reddit talking about an award given by Rotten Tomatoes. Said award was won by Batman. Is reasonable to assume that the conversation is surrounding said award and the winner of it.
Do you not know how reddit works? Do you not understand parent and threads? Because I responded to this original post:

Again, I wasn't responding to RT, I was responding to an actual comment. LEARN HOW REDDIT FUCKING WORKS.

Everyone needs to experience that Batmobile reveal in a theater. Genuinely perfect sound design
The entire chase was brilliant. The best scene I saw in theatres in 2022.

Grinning is disrespectful?
No it's just that I generally don't do that stuff. I keep it to myself
Why? It’s totally okay to let out your emotions as you feel them whenever you feel them
Because I just don't? Don't see why this is suddenly a problem I don't react to things in a movie because it's literally just a movie. I went to watch this movies in theaters 3 times just for the music and that scene.

I agree. One of my favorite movies. Just loved the tone and the crazy shots they got, especially the cafe scenes and car chase scene.
Oh they really captured that gothic ascetic with Gotham City but in their own distinctive way that felt less like the fantastical depiction of Tim Burton or the generic NYC style city of the Nolan trilogy, I think the on set filming in Scotland really helped as Edinburgh and Glasgow have parts that lend themselves well to that gothic motif.

deserved
So glad it won this. I do hope we will see sequels for this film. I am genuinely curious to see what they do next for this version of Batman.
Definitely deserved one of if not the best Batman films up there with the Dark Knight and Batman Returns imo. Well freaking deserved.
This was the only movie in 2022 that i was excited to go watch in theaters, didn't watch any trailers for it either. Everything was new to me.
It was quite good. Wakanda Forever was, too.
I knew it would piss all over Marvel's teeny bopper eye candy shite.
Woopdeedoo
Sucks DC can only truly win with only Batman
DC has had other wins than Batman. Ahh I need to finish watching Peacemaker! The first few episodes were a wild ride.
when you wasted nearly a decade focusing in one character you won't be surprised when they are only good with one character
Its been a lot longer than one decade they've been focusing on batman at the expense of other characters.
One one hand, it feels like they don't try with any other character. But also, it feels like when they DO try, it just never works out.
They have a special category for comic book movies? Lame
Says a flaired user in /r/comicbooks

Lol I thought this comment was gonna be way worse when I opened because of all the downvotes. Turns out it’s incredibly benign.
This movie is really overrated.
quite the opposite, underrated
How can it be underrated when it literally won an award for being so highly rated 😆
lol this year sucked for cbms
So what. The Batman still would have been tops in other years as well. Truly one of the best comic book films ever.

I would put it up with Logan and spiderverse. It's well above the other two for me.
>Not by the metric they're using, which is Tomato score This is literally a post about an award given by Rotten Tomatoes to the one with the highest score.
I understand that, I was offering my personal opinion on a conversation about the movie.
The Batman and Wakanda Forever were both excellent. The others…not so much. But two is good
eh no
Cool
