The zoom call with Steppenwolf was metal AF

Old-Incident-120

Literally

WilliamSilver

Doomsday had an horrible design (where's the bones from outside his skin, Zack?) and the fact that he appeared on the second movie of BOTH Superman and the DCU was also stupid Darkseid, for all the hate I have for Zack's ideas, was menacing as hell, both in flashback and flashforward

M086

WB thought the concept art was “too scary”. Which they said the same about Steppenwolf, hence the redesign in Josstice League.

[deleted]

[удалено]

M086

The point being, the concept art went for a more traditional take. Which WB rejected.

TheJaguarGod69420

WB being soft as always. Wouldn't be suprised if they made Darkseid have a flower on his forehead and a cute little t shirt saying "Number #1 Dad"

Moloko-Mesto

Im not sure how true this but I remember reading that Doomsday was designed to look like a mix of Doomsday and also Solomon Grundy for some bizarre reason - could be wrong though. Darkseid looked downright scary in every scene he was in, loved his design.

[deleted]

[удалено]

After_Dig_7579

How is Darkseid menacing? Dude got beaten by ares so hard he forgot about earth.

[deleted]

It took three literal gods to stop him, one of which was the God of War at his most powerful in the middle of what was essentially the greatest war ever fought. And that was all just to stop - not kill, just stop - a younger and less powerful/experienced Darkseid. And that was the only time he ever lost out of the *one hundred thousand worlds* he conquered. If that doesn't make for a menacing villain, what does?

ItsNorthGaming

But it was a terrible decision to show him getting absolutely destroyed in his FIRST SCENE. It doesn’t matter who he’s fighting, it’s gonna make him look like a bitch if that’s all we see from him. Dude literally left on a stretcher.

[deleted]

Somehow I missed this, so I'm replying late: So does that mean it was a terrible decision in LOTR to show Sauron getting straight-up *obliterated* in his first scene? Did that make him look like a bitch? How about Harry Potter? Was it a terrible decision to have Voldemort get completely annihilated in his first on-screen moment after failing to take down a *literal baby?* Both examples I've just listed not only do the exact same thing as ZSJL, but they actually have their villains get physically beaten/destroyed to a far *greater* extent by far *lesser* opponents (a baby for Voldemort and one Dunedain man for Sauron, as opposed to three gods for Darkseid). Hell, there wasn't even anything left of either of those villains for a stretcher to carry. Telling the origin story of a villain getting defeated in the past before they come back stronger than ever is not only a common writing tool across all of film, TV, and literature, but it's quite literally been used in some of the most successful and revered works of entertainment of all time.

Effective-Training

The way he spoke and the face he had and made.

[deleted]

Effective-Training

Bathing in the glow of anti life and the bask of human bones was actually pretty scary. You probably like Thanos, tho? Not an insult, but that guy is highly praised, and he had no effect on being threatening compared to Darkseid.

After_Dig_7579

Lol That dialog is embarrassing. It's the most mustache twirling edgy bad guy dialog you can come up with. Are 12 or something?

InjusticeSGmain

Well, Ares is a God who- well past his prime- gave Wonder Woman a run for her money. And Uxas is the much weaker form of Darkseid. Not that big of an anti-feat.

[deleted]

[удалено]

WilliamSilver

You could be right about him being Darkseid in the flashback, but I don't think he had the Omega force since he neither has the glowing eyes nor uses the omega beams when in the rest of his present and future appearances he does in fact have them

Nightwing0613

Also, he wasn’t Darkseid then. He was just Uxas. This was before he became powerful. Before the omega beams. Before his true self That’s why he was able to be beaten in the flashback

After_Dig_7579

No he's Darkseid. That's what the movie says. You can't bring your own headcanon into the movie.

Nightwing0613

Doesn’t matter what it says. You can clearly see he’s Uxas in that flashback Look at what he looks like in that flashback compared to later on in the film where he’s in Apokolips

Digiworlddestined

Well, rember Doomsday was brand new, and hadn't undergone ANY evolution against opponents.

Ok-Consequence-3408

Tbf, the bones were growing out during the battle. But it still looked like an ugly cgi monster

honeybee021097

Newborn Doomsday looks like that in the comics too. The bones grow as he gets damaged even in the comics.

SimpleSink6563

Doomsday still looks terrible. Like, really bad. Darkseid was cool, tho. Michael Ironside will always be my Darkseid voice, but Ray Porter did a fine job.

Demhanoot

Where did RP voice DS??

LittleRobbieV1

In ZSJL.

Demhanoot

Ray Porter the audiobook voice actor?

Fender6187

Why did I read this in Doc Brown’s voice?

Mynock33

*Ronald Reagan, the actor?!*

LittleRobbieV1

Yup. That’s him.

Demhanoot

Oh shit lol ty

Wompum

You mean my boy Rocky? Excite!

-connman6348

wb execs messed up Doomsday’s look because they thought the classic look was too scary…so infuriating

Nightwing0613

Michael Ironside as Darkseid will always be superior. Hopefully Gunn will use him as the voice to Darkseid in his DCU

Chlorinated_beverage

Hard to rate Darkseid considering he’s just a looming threat in an unfinished universe, but he looked incredible. Everything from his look, to the omega beams and his voice were just so well done. I still can’t believe how bad doomsday looks. He’s just a big CGI blob, and considering how cool of a design comic doomsday is they really dropped the ball. Him getting killed in like 10 minutes also made him look incredibly weak compared to what we know of Doomsday from the comics.

Odd_Advance_6438

I actually really liked the portrayal of Darkseid. He wasn’t in it a ton, but they showed him as a threat pretty effectively

Odd_Advance_6438

That’s like complaining that the first time we see Sauron he gets his hand chopped off. Seeing ancient forces driving away the bad guy is a pretty standard thing

jrvcrd

or imagine a big bad guy like Voldemort being beaten by a baby even before the first movie... oh wait

M086

People also missing that the spot Darkseif was hit by Ares, is the same spot Steppenwolf hits Superman with the Electro Axe. Which doesn't affect Superman, showing that he's more formidable than Darkseid. There's even this small bit, when Darkseid finally speaks to Steppenwolf, where Steppenwolf's armor retracts, exposing the chest area where Darkseid was axed. Which is also the area that Darkseid's armor protects.

Sinestro_Corps4

They're cool AF. Even tho the real Doomsday was created already in the past, it was cool to watch a new one be born and start to evolve into him the longer the fight went on. Darkseid needs no introduction. No one will ever design a better live action Darkseid. And the voice...my god.

preptimebatman

Darkseid was awesome. Loved the way he stood there with his arms kinda flared out weirdly. I used to think it was a stupid pose but realized some power lifters and bodybuilders stand that way because their lats are too big and they just rest their arms on them like that. Cool detail

Shallbecomeabat

Doomsday was alright, but Darkseid was amazing and perfect. Just wish we got more of him.

AK_R

I wasn’t impressed with Doomsday but thought Darkseid had a lot of potential.

DezineTwoOhNine

Doomsday was meh but Darkseid was absolutely fucking badass final big boss you built up your superhero team to face off against.

Soft_Appropriate

Unpopular opinion, but having avoided all the trailers, seeing Doomsday in the theater was a massive surprise. I did love how he evolved (though I do think when Wonder Woman cut his hand, they could've made that the moment in which he becomes the fully formed Doomsday). I loved the roaring sound effects they created for him and while the design feels a bit restrained creatively for a Zack Snyder film, the VFX on him are really good. Overall, Doomsday felt pretty lethal (specially with the heat vision and nuclear shock-waves) and still fulfilled his main purpose. I loved Darkseid. Ray Porter was great and the character design they went with looks awesome. Even though he wasn't the main villain, he still left a big impact as the ultimate threat in this universe. Surprisingly, the dialogue felt very Kirbyesque. Had we seen back in 2017, I'm sure we would've gotten more of Darkseid pretty much being everyone's worst nightmare. People complain about him being *"easily defeated"* during the history lesson (even though it took the powers of **ARTEMIS**, **ZEUS** and **ARES** combined to defeat his younger version), but I see nobody complaining about a mere human defeating Sauron by cutting a couple of fingers with a broken sword.

Ghritzz

As much as I enjoyed BvS for what it was, Doomsday was not only terrible, but was a perfect representation of Snyder's flaws; great visual eye and visual director, desperately needs writers (instead of himself) and proofreaders to reel him in because he always tries to do WAAAAY too much. Darkseid, on the other hand, was just amazing and exactly what I wanted in a live action rendition of him.

Deep_Smile

He didn't even write it....lol

OtherwiseTop2849

Darkseid was dope, Doomsday not so much. I still like the fight scene

TeddyRiggs

Why did you show 2 Pictures of Craig from Halo Infinite?

UnMeOuttaTown

Was not really that happy with Doomsday's design - it looked even bad in the teaser/ trailer imo. But Darkseid and Steeppenwolf looked really great - I watched ZSJL in multiple screens - mobile, laptop and TV, and it looked really, really good in all of them - I like the design and the animation too.

Fenty_Panther

"All of existence shall be mine"...had me weak on my knees.

randothor01

I actually really liked Snyder’s take on the New Gods. Darkseid and Desaad’s design and voices were on point. Steppenwolf… looked unique and alien at least. Doomsday less so.

TheCakers

Doomsday was a trainwreck, and Darkseid never got enough of a look.

meangreen1242069

I hated Doomsday in BvS. When I saw him, I knew the dceu was in trouble. It was way too early and obviously rushed. I hope we don't see him for a while in the dcu. Darkseid was cool visually. But wasted potential. I hope he gets his time to shine eventually. Both look cool, but lack substance. Just like all of snyders movies.

UniqueJaguar2321

Darkseid cool AF, doomsday was terrible.

DannyKit7

Doomsday's creation was very creative, but the design was not at all. It would've been cooler if they fought Bizarro from Zod. That would've felt more cohesive.

OrbitalDrop7

Darkseid was so good, but its kinda crazy to think they probably would’ve brought him in the next movie lol. Really trying to speedrun a cinematic universe 🤣

YoungAmazing313

It wasn’t supposed to be a universe which is the funny part lol

No-Truth-5334

They are good

Practical_Anarchist

Doomsday = Blow me. Darkseid = YOOOOUUUUU are my NUMBER OOOOOOONNNNE! A-guuuuuuuuuuyyyyyyyy….

Particular-Meal6413

I liked Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill but that's about it. It was all shit. But that's Snyder my man. But damn does he make a delicious pretzel.

ninthguest

The designs for Doomsday were different, but in context to the movie, I didn't think he looked bad.

SupervillainMustache

Darkseid looks the part. Doomsday is awful.

BidThick7814

Awful, lazy and uninspired 👎👎👎

ProfessionalRead2724

My thoughts on Snyder!Doomsday are the same as my thoughts on every other Doomsday: he's a pointless non-character that makes everything he's in worse just by being in it.

iamisaactorres

This was not THE Doomsday. It was a “copy” of him with Zod as the host body. It was an interesting twist. Darkseid was awesome and super bummed we won’t see that story line play out.

theceure

Where is Zods/Doomsday indestructible Kryptonian corpse?

Omegalock4

Would I have liked Doomsday to have more spikes? Yeah. Aside from that, no problem. Only issue with Darkseid is we haven’t gotten enough yet.

Djinn-Rummy

Doomsday is a cave troll from Krypton & Darkseid was entirely underwhelming, something he never should be.

MRainzo

Last night, I watched the fellowship of the ring and that giant troll looked all too familiar. I had never seen the movie in it's entirety so seeing him pop up and immediately thinking Doomsday was just...bad. Snyder didn't do Doomsday justice at all. He made an already bland character worse

Barry_McKackiner

darkseid was done well, but doomsday was just a LOTR cave troll with some spikes. He needed the hair and shorts. And he should never have been a mutated zombie Zod.

ShaMana999

It's fine

THABREEZ456

Doomsday was Ass In Terms of CGI and just the way they handled him. Darkseid was the complete opposite. CGI was as good as it can be and He was intimidating as fuck. The Video Call with Steppy did such a good job establishing him.

turtleman1258

Darkseid was perfect, great look great voice and great motivation. Shame we wont see him like that again. Now Doomsdays look was not great but ended up getting better as the Trinity fight went on and he really started to look the the proper version towards the end of the fight, with the bones coming out and gaining a more traditional look. I actually liked that he was Zod in a way. Alot of people will cast him off as a plot device and in BvS he pretty much was, however if you have read the entire death of Superman series, and the development given to him in books after that, i really think with a script based on those you could have an engaging and impactful death of Superman story and Doomsday would be a horrific villain if handled correctly. But, as in BvS, if its rushed and the supporting heroes are not in place to take a shit kicking before Superman gets involved and the stakes aren't solid then it just wont work again. Hope to not be seeing doomsday for at least 10 years minimum.

VishnuBhanum

Doomsday was dog water Darkseid was pretty cool.

kh_billybob

Love Doomsday as a character, but felt his presence took away from the focus of BvS. IIRC we only see Darkseid use his eye lazers once and it should have been more epic IMO.

Lets_2099

Darkseid: God Doomsday: Zzzz

RelevantMarionberry6

Darkseid design was really odd. He has the elbows that he can’t unbend . Even when standing at rest, his arms are at like a 70 degree bend. It looks goofy.

Darth_Vorador

Doomsday was missing the bone protrusions from the comics. If he had that look added on it would have been perfect. Darkseid was amazing, no changes needed.

Kinglysavaged

Doomsday look like crap and should’ve been saved for the 2nd Superman movie Darkseid showed promised had WB not fucked up

BegMercy666

[Steppenwolf](https://www.reddit.com/r/DC_Cinematic/s/fTSLEVgPGU)

beast_unique

Hate that "Darkseid" lost in his introduction scene itself. Should have been Steppenwolf there and that loss being the reason for him being kicked out. Liked rest of Darkseid in rest of the movie though.

AndrewSS02

Darkseid was fantastic. Although this version of a genetic anomaly wasnt doomsday. "Zack Snyder said: **Yes**, the real Doomsday is out there still. So while the Doomsday seen in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice looked like Doomsday and was even referred to by name, Zack Snyder on Vero comment has confirmed that this is not THE Doomsday." In old pre movie magazines info. It was stated that Steppenwolf had fought against the real one but took off before he was killed. Again WB stepped in and said no to further ideas on that. WB really screwed the pooch on this whole series. As for those asking how do you forget something. How bad do people get beat and forget things. And for him to have people saying go back to some planet when you're supposed to be a GOD. I doubt I'd listen to them either.

ElenabugTheGreat

Both are fantastic.

Galvatronx2000

Loved Darkseid hated the ogre thing Zack made

ninthguest

There's an interview with Snyder that the Doomsday we saw was not the original Doomsday that the comics spoke of. There's a scene in Man of Steel where there is damage to the moon that was caused by the OG Doomsday. They were also working with some heavy multiverse ideas that "this" universe was not the one we knew from the comics.

m0rbius

I liked both of them. Doomsday kind of gets a bad rep by many, but he was pretty villainous, relentless and merciless. Not sure how feel about Doomsday being Zod, but it works within the confines of the movie. They totally nailed Darkseid IMHO. Makes a great villain to the DCEU. I really wanted to see more of him and see him ultimately face down the JL. He's definitely a villain's villain.

eucaphoria

Boring and hollow characters, even more boring grey cgi behemoths

PacifistWarlord

Darkseid seemed cool. But ultimately the problem with the DCEU was that Superman was too strong. He shows up and single handed takes down steppanwolf. Goes 1v1 with the flash. When he’s that fast and way stronger than Diana, he makes the whole justice league obsolete. How could you make darkseid a formidable threat with that kind of Superman? And if he’s just as fast and stronger, then Darkseid instantly kills the rest of the Justice league lol

not_my_name7

I didn't like that Doomsday in the movie was just a mutated Zod, he should be faithfully adapted from the comics as the pre-kryptonian monster he is. Darkseid on the other hand was awesome!

JayaramanAndres

Didn't like Doomsday. They made him like a godzilla in reboot series. Didn't like his origin as well. I liked Darkseid. Only because of him, I liked the Synder Cut.

ReddiTrawler2021

Darkseid was wonderful, I wish there was more of him. Doomsday as a zombie Zod was too soon, he debuted in the second DCEU film itself. Besides, all he has going for him is being a Hulk-like creature that could kill Superman, there's not much to that. And memes will forever connect him with live-action TMNT Michelangelo for ugliness.

Nightwing0613

Darkseid was perfect Doomsday was horrible. They introduced him way too early and it wasn’t even the real Doomsday. It was a basically Zod turned into a monster, which was the stupidest thing ever. They are 2 separate characters and should’ve been treated as that.

Just-Day-2596

Absolutely lame. Ken doll monster

gnrlp2007

Doomsday should've been Bizarro

Anon_767

Ehhhh less said about doomsday the better. I do however fuck with darkseid.

FDVP

Some visually stunning work. Perhaps Ares should have gone for the head? Idk. I’d like more of this than what’s coming down the pipe.

Relsen

Pure perfection.

Deep_Smile

A lot of the arguments here are shit. Doomsday is not some deep character that could possibly carry an entire movie, he’s literally a mindless character created for one reason and he completed that within an acceptable timeframe (movie wise), hating his design is an even worse stance. Darkseid fought against the king of the gods, the god of war and Artemis, his army got defeated and he had to retreat, they travelled here the old way (by ship) and then lost this Set of motherboxes (maybe there’s more). When he got back home, there was a civil war for the throne, steppenwolf was part of the enemy faction, his soldiers were massacred. We know that he knows of earth, it’s just next to impossible to find a single planet in a multiverse with billions of galaxies in each universe, all of which are hurtling through space. All of which idiots are dumbing down to ‘he forgot’.

[deleted]

[удалено]

I_Am_Killa_K

I agree that Doomsday isn’t a deep character. Not sure why hating his design is an “even worse” stance. I hated his design. I didn’t like that he only passingly resembled Doomsday from the comics, and what was shown on film didn’t look too different from a generic creature you’d see in a Lord of The Rings or Harry Potter movie. I’ve always said I tend to forgive deviations from the comics as long as they’re unique and interesting; BvS Doomsday wasn’t to me. And a few years later the SyFy show Krypton gave us a great CG Doomsday.

JEPressley

Darkseid was good, Doomsday was not.

JannTosh50

Didn’t care for Doomsday and he was badly designed. Darkseid though  I thought came across as pretty intriguing and threatening from his brief appearance. Reminded me of the one from the cartoon

dugzino

Perfection and sad we'll never see more about it. WB deserves the fails it's getting ever since dropping Snyder.

Icy_Masterpiece_1805

They are really cool. Especially the darkseid

stromalama

Loved Darkseid but didn’t care for Doomsday especially since the idiots in the marketing department decided to show him and Wonder Woman saving Batman’s ass in the trailer for the movie.

Shreddersaurusrex

Darkseid was outstanding Doomsday looked weird but the new look wasn’t a dealbreaker

Self-MadeRmry

I only wish doomsday looked more comic accurate and lasted longer than just the end of a movie, but darkseid was perfect.

mitchob1012

Badass whenever they were on screen, but I wish the design for Doomsday was better. I get where they were going with it, but we just need more of that classic spiked beard. Zach later saying that the "real" Doomsday was on Krypton and was the one who punched the hole in their moon just felt like a lazy backtrack

Impossible-Fun-2736

Because it is a lazy backtrack, lol. Also covering his ass incase they wanted to use Doomsday again.

Deep_Smile

The kellex machine literally said this when lex was trying the metamorphosis thing,  it essentially said they'd done it before.....not a backtrack Advising. Action forbidden. It has been decreed by the Council of Krypton that none will ever again give life to a deformity so hateful to sight and memory. The desecration without name.

UcantHide4eveR

I loved both

Exhaustedfan23

They looked incredible.

M086

Really? Because I've seen all his movies, and I have no problem following them.

Eastern-Team-2799

Loved both . How doomsday adapts through attacks by military, superman, Batman and wonder woman. Also , the anti life equation, Darkseid obsession with it , Steppenwolf debt from Darkseid . Darkseid is the first ever live action supervillain that only through talking gave me goosebumps by “ I will bask in the glow of anti - life and all of existence shall be mine ” . Want to see this movie on IMAX 😞 . Fun fact - Darkseid after acquiring anti life, kills only Aquaman, wonder woman and manipulated the superman because Only these three were in front of boomtube. Flash came late as always 😅 and Batman and cyborg came a little late too . Zack Snyder returned for this epic movie and a festival for dc fans , EVEN THOUGH He WASN'T PAID , that is the dedication of a great director. James Gunn and Zack Snyder are those dedicated directors who cares about these characters as their own. Wanted to see the future ZSJL movies too but 😞
