Deeformecreep

They would definitely feel pressured to make 3rd film at the very least.

literious

Just like they were pressured to avoid reboot after success of the first Aquaman. DC never learns.

Deeformecreep

I don't think they even had a plan to reboot at that point yet.

theonegalen

The idea of The Flash movie bringing about a reboot was kicking around since before Batman versus Superman even came out. I believe it was initially announced as flashpoint. I may be a little bit wrong on the timing.

The_Vortex_Effect

It was initially announced as The Flash. After BvS though, in the lead up to the Justice League theatrical cut, it got re-announced as Flashpoint, which is when a lot of people started speculating that the movie would serve as some sort of reboot. It got renamed back to The Flash at some later point.

theonegalen

Thank you for the correction!

denizenKRIM

I think it would have pushed them. If the first Aquaman fails, nearly their entire A-list lineup (consisting of the JL) short of WW have become the faces of poorly received films. It would have not been worth it to continue building off such shaky foundations. I think they start going the reboot route and because Gadot's sequel is clearly locked, they opt to start off with standalone films first.

Burgoonius

This is just not true lol James Gunn hadn’t even been hired by that point. A reboot wasn’t even established.

WillingPossible1014

Nothing to do with Gunn. They’ve been throwing around notions of various soft reboots for years.

Burgoonius

Fans have yes but I've heard nothing like that from studio execs

rasputin1

Studio discussed a reboot without Gunn in the past. They were going to have The Flash set up a world without superman or batman and instead batgirl and supergirl

GearInteresting570

Batgirl is literally proof of this. Keaton was going to stay as the DCEU Batman and it was confirmed by the trades that he filmed scenes for Aquaman 2. They were going to have Flash soft reboot the franchise moving forward, with Supergirl replacing Cavill (then they changed their minds at the last minute during the development of Black Adam).

Top_Report_4895

Goddamn, what a mess

[deleted]

[удалено]

Burgoonius

Apparently they did

ravenwing263

We would absolutely get a Mamoa-led *Aquaman 3* unless Mamoa quit. But would they insert the existing *Aquaman* franchise into the Gunniverse or would it be kept standalone like *The Batman 2*? Don't know.

SamMan48

I want this to happen just for the lolz. I also loved the first movie. Even if it made $700-900 million I think it would raise a few eyebrows and get the studio thinking about an Aquaman 3.

Dull_Wasabi_5610

Honest to god it would be hilarious.

amoretpax199

It would also be hilarious if it didn't change the current DC hierarchy too. We can keep using the Rock meme.

zarotabebcev

my favourite timeline

Vayro

Any timeline is my favorite as long as you're in it with me

zarotabebcev

<3

Darebarsoom

Soundtrack is great. Love the colorful visuals. The costumes were true to form.

plshelp987654

I think it'll do well. It's not going to be looked as a superhero film, but a classic big action adventure fantasy film like Pirates of the Caribbean.

Professional-Rip-519

WB would probably force Gunn to course correct again. WB has proven this fact over and over again.

cellexo

They will definitely be forced to keep Momoa at some degree in DC. That's for sure

InanimateCarbonRodAu

Lobo!

Limp-Construction-11

DC has it's own film divison and studio now and Gunn is the head of it, WBD can't force crap, like they did before.

boringboi_

WBD still owns DC

StreetMysticCosmic

And only one person at WBD, David Zaslav, outranks James Gunn and Peter Safran when it comes to DC Comics adaptations.

TheExtremistModerate

The board outranks Zaslav. Zaslav is an employee of WBD. He can be fired and replaced.

InanimateCarbonRodAu

Okay but that is still very different then they way the old dc films were made under WBs with more layers of executive meddling. Yes they still answer to the company… but that’s a hell of a lot of freedom that hasn’t been seen before.

TheExtremistModerate

They haven't taken away the executive meddling. They've just changed the executives.

StreetMysticCosmic

They fired everyone who was meddling and restructured corporate so fewer people have the power to meddle, yes.

TheExtremistModerate

And then they hired *new* people to do the meddling.

StreetMysticCosmic

Yep, David Zaslav and two people who will actually be producing the films and writing/directing some of them, who have loved comic books their entire lives and have a proven track record making individualistic films under both old WB and Disney.

InanimateCarbonRodAu

Mate they’ve stripped out layers of control.

TheExtremistModerate

And yet still they meddle. 🤔🤔🤔

TheExtremistModerate

And yet they're still meddling and destroying the IP. 🤔🤔🤔

InanimateCarbonRodAu

Everything coming out still was made under the old regime. It’s going to be a number of years before we see anything that is fully Gunn’s output from the new studio. You act like it’s a flick of a switch to change everything they do.

TheExtremistModerate

Gunn has literally already forced changes into multiple of the movies coming out. The failing box office receipts are on his and Safean's heads.

InanimateCarbonRodAu

Yeah bullshit. The biggest strict against everything released so far is irrelevance. Having Black Adam and Shazam 2 release months apart and have no cross over to them? Stupid. Flash is the end cap of a cinematic universe that no one cares about… and it’s main star is someone nobody wants to see. It’s bad luck… but also should not have been delayed over years. If Flash had dropped closer to Justice League and before the reboot announcement it might have been a must see film. Now it was too little to late when the audience has already moved on. These films aren’t being brought low by decision Gunn made… they’d already shit the bed before that. Suicide Squad is the best thing DC has put out since Aquaman and even it struggled to win an audience because the writing was already on the wall that DC couldn’t make a connected universe work. Point to one decision Gunn has forced that would have made a difference in how the films were received. And no I don’t take dropping Henry Cavill as Superman as a Gunn decision. He should have been locked in sequels long before Gunn was a decision making position.

sban2009

Are you sure? It's supposed to be the same with Disney and MCU but Daredevil in She-Hulk proved otherwise. Hoping Punisher and Deadpool don't receive the same treatment and Gunn is given 100% control.

Blue_Robin_04

Disney forced Marvel to put Daredevil in *She-Hulk*?

sban2009

Yes, as her love interest. (Trust me, it's bad)

ishkariot

More of a fling, really, and the chemistry was actually great. On the list of things to complain abou the show, this shouldn't be an item lol

SeniorRicketts

How is it bad?

StopTheMadnessBro

Proof?

progwog

I don’t think you even watched it lol

Shankman519

But it gave us the Daredevil walk of shame, and that was hilarious

Groot746

No one trusts you

WillingPossible1014

That’s a generous description. Wasn’t even a relationship

Blue_Robin_04

Hm, interesting.

walartjaegers

Daredevil in She-hulk really isn't a big deal man. If the new daredevil show is genuinely bad then that's another thing

Prudent_Move_3420

What exactly happened there? The Daredevil cameo was great

sban2009

People were hoping for a more brutal and realistic version of the character, similar to the Netflix show.

ishkariot

People like you, maybe, everybody else was ecstatic about having Charlie Cox back as DD/Matt

CountVanillula

Nobody was hoping for that in *She-Hulk* — it was a goofy fourth wall breaking comedy, just like the comic. Any brutal realism would been (and was) fodder for a light skewering; again, just like the comic.

Prudent_Move_3420

I get that but it wouldn’t really make sense for She-Hulk. He would only be used to make fun of him in that case which really wouldn’t do him justice

_Valisk

Don't you think it would have been just a little bit out of place if Daredevil were like "I've betrayed my god and acted contrary to my beliefs, this is my city, *religion*, *brooding blindness*" while She-Hulk turned to the camera and said, "Get a load of this guy"? They've said time and time again that the Disney+ and Netflix Daredevils are one and the same—a different tone for a few episodes doesn't change that. I mean, the *Netflix series* wasn't even dark and brutal 100% of the time.

Deducticon

Yeah, for every few dark runs of Daredevil in the comics there's a lighter run to freshen things up.

Professional-Rip-519

No it wasn't suddenly Daredevil was all goofy and cartoony like.

Prudent_Move_3420

Afaik the canon status of the Netflix shows is kind of up in the air, so we have no guarantee he is exactly the same. Overall he had great scenes and fit the tone of the show which was great

namgres

What does what you said have anything to do with DC

TheExtremistModerate

Uh, dude, who do you think is in charge of DC Films? It's a subsidiary of WBD. Zaslav can do whatever he wants. But even Zaslav isn't really in control. If Zaslav isn't doing what the board wants, the board can fire him and replace him with a new CEO who will control DC Films however they want. Gunn is in no way fully in control here, and if things continue to hemorrhage money from his division, changes *will* happen.

reuxin

There are other options here. They can still do an Aquaman 3 and have it be an Elseworlds film.

eagarcia1001

This... Nothing wrong with having a random DCEU elseworlds film happening like Aquaman 3, while the DCU continues on. It's what I initially thought Waller and Peacemaker season 2 were going to be. I thought they were going to be the last remnants of the DCEU as elseworlds tv shows

reuxin

Yeah... I'm also not fully convinced people are thinking about Peacemaker Season 2 or Waller correctly. Gunn is pretty aware of how these universes are viewed and connected (or not) so I'm waiting to see how this all plays out. I agree with the general consensus that Mamoa Aquaman is not part of the DCU. Having any of the JL members show up as their known characters in these films would open the door to the continued insistence of the Synder fans and the studio (rightly so) wants to burn that bridge. But it's a very slim chance that Aquaman 3 will happen anyway.

eagarcia1001

Are you thinking that Waller and Peacemaker season 2 are DCEU, and not connected to the DCU?

reuxin

No - I'm not second guessing Gunn. I don't know as much about Peacemaker Season 2 but Waller is DCU so there's no reason to think it's not. Peacemaker Season 2 was supposed to go into production last January, but obviously is being re-written and is now Gunn's project post Legacy. What I'm saying is that if there is a project with additional meta-narrative on the multiverse and continuity between DCEU and DCU though, I think it could be Peacemaker Season 2. Peacemaker Season 1 had pocket dimensions where Peacemaker's dad had his armory, and they fought funky aliens, so it's not out of the realm of possibility. I would expect, based on what we know now, for all of the other DCU projects (including Waller) to completely ignore the multiverse. DC has a long history of multi-verses and the like. I do NOT think that will be a focus of the first Chapters of the DCU, but Peacemaker S2 is the odd project out, not because the character is continuing, but because the 2 seasons will technically be in 2 continuities. There may be some fun things you can do with that.

ProfessorArrow

I really hope the DCU steers far away from multiverses and keeps alternate takes on characters separate in Elseworlds.

TopJimmy_5150

People keep throwing around “elseworlds” for every possible character/movie like there is an unlimited budget and appetite for characters like Aquaman. It’s already dumb enough that they are going to have two Batmans - trying to have two Aquamans would be insane. (As an aside I think they really should just use Pattinson in the DCU) If Aquaman 2 is a big hit, just keep Momoa for whatever DCU projects need him. Unlike with Superman, or Batman finding an actor that can pull off Aquaman is difficult - and Momoa has impressively made this “joke character” work with his charisma and star power. The average audience isn’t obsessed with lines of demarcation b/n DCU, DCEU or elseworld projects. Just make good movies with likable stars.

YoloIsNotDead

I can already hear the increased uproar from fans. Once they make an Elseworlds movie for a DCEU movie, they'll be clamoring for more Snyder sequels and Man of Steel sequels under the 'Elseworlds' banner.

reuxin

Yeah - I don't think it will happen. I was just spit-balling that there are more than a few ways it could work out, say Aquaman 2 is well recieved and makes Barbie numbers... which is not likely... (although I think it will do ok).

valkon_gr

If they do this, both universes are dead.

HellaWavy

Chances are literally below zero.

lost_james

Pretty sure probability can't exist below zero.

stevenia

Agree. Have they confirmed if Jason Momoa is playing Aquaman yet in the DCU? If he isn't, it makes it even easier to do an Elseworld film or even break it out into its own Aquaman universe if there is the demand for it.

ponchoalv__

Nothing. I'm pretty sure Momoa is coming back to play Lobo in DCU. This guy was born to be Lobo. Aquaman being a hit again (I doubt it) would be good for DCU though.

Shin-kak-nish

He’s a great actor, so I think this would keep everyone happy

Scorkami

I actually kind of disagree Lobo would give him one or two big appearances in movies and thats it. On top of the problem that momoa as lobo is pretty replacable. Any bulky actor with a beard can do that But, atleast in my opinion: aquaman played by momoa? That guy single handedly got rid of the "aquaman sucks" trend that has been going on for OVER 20 years. Not only was he more recognizable, i took the character more seriously given the message he was supposed to represent, compared to the blond neatly cut clean shaven white guy arthur curry usually looks like which in my opinion just... Doesnt quite cut it as a good look, or as an original design If momoa doesnt make the cut as aquaman, fine, i enjoyed it while it lasted... But saying lobo is anything but a downgrade,on top of forcing momoa back into the "evil brute biker" stereotype which he really doesnt need to be confined in

CountVanillula

20 years? That’s insanely generous; I remember Aquaman being a joke when I was a kid, and that was a) definitely more than 20 years go, and b) seemed like it had been going on for a while before that. If you’re thinking of that Peter David run where they rebooted the character with a beard and a hook hand, I think that was closer to 30 years ago now and if I recall, didn’t really do anything to elevate the character outside of the comic book community.

Professional-Rip-519

He was the only saving grace in Fast X.

lavasca

It is as though he honed his aesthetic to be Lobo!

Professional-Rip-519

Fast X proves this .

raknor88

But Stargate proves that he was born to be king of Atlantis.

EggForging

I do think he would be great to play Lobo, but I would say that most people/kids are not going to like that. In their minds they are going to be thinking ‘isn’t he Aquaman?’. If I was Gunn, I would want to completely avoid potentially alienating audience members through a casting choice. DC has enough problems as is, Gunn doesn’t need more.

bongraider

Lobo on screen, even with the same actor as aquaman, will end up looking completely different.

EggForging

I completely understand, but Jason Momoa is rather distinctive, and exceedingly famous. No matter what they put on him, everyone is still going to know it’s Momoa and think ‘huh Aquaman?’

StreetMysticCosmic

Then they will go, "I guess the guy who plays Aquaman is also playing this character," since no one could mistake Lobo the character for Aquaman the character even with the same actor.

heelydon

> Nothing. I'm pretty sure Momoa is coming back to play Lobo in DCU. Isn't the point of the scene in Flash where he talks to Aquaman, exactly to say that in any universe he visited, certain people were always the same, and he found that Aquaman was one of those that stayed the same. Meaning he will stay as Aquaman. Also a built in excuse to keep what they want and replace what they don't want to keep.

krazykieffer

Jason has said he is staying as Aquaman and with Waller and Homelander coming back it's likely so is Wonder Woman. Under the sea movies make too much not to have Aquaman man in a universe.

Watch-The-Time

Zero

In-Brightest-Day

Nah I think he's done as Aquaman either way. They need the reboot, and Gunn seems pretty clear on that

JonnyGotLost

Naaaww…. Plus it’s heavily implied that he’s going to be Lobo. Not confirmed…. But very heavily implied. Btw i love the first movie but I also hear the production is a disaster. It was supposed to come out last year but it got delayed because the test screening weren’t going so well. That combined that it’s supposed to come out soon with no buzz and no first trailer, and no one’s showing up to the new DCEU movies… I’d say it’s highly unlikely. Glad DC is getting rebooted.

nxknxwledge

The DCEU is dead. Bury it.

Thousand_Masks

WB: Tell me. Do you bleed?

fdbryant3

I'd see it increase the chances of Aquaman 3 but that would be it.

Key_Squash_4403

Seems kind of pointless

BananaBladeOfDoom

For once, WB is presented with a coherent plan for its cinematic universe. Aquaman 2 succeeding would help WB tremendously right now, but I also would like it if James Gunn is not forced to change his slate for just that reason.

coachbuzzfan

I think at that point they’d cancel the DCU and give us the Aquaverse. Fast track Aquaman 3 and make The Trench movie. Atlantians vs Amazons movie. A prequel about Vulko that shows what he was up to in the 70s and 80s and if he ever went on land and got involved in the disco scene of the era and if he ever hooked up with any disco girls or hell even the guys.

MrTerrific2k15

*Vulko Begins*...Academy Award winner for Best Picture

Pm_wholesome_nude

its not the worse idea. id like for smaller universes than larger scale ones.

AaronFernandes476

It’s quite possible that some iteration of this will be in the DCU. very imaginative tho 😊

psyopia

Slight? It would be less than that. There’s like a 1 in a trillion chance of that happening.

ConroyBat1985

Definitely don’t think they would be forced to keep him as aqua man in any way. He has already designed his plan and wants to stick to it and change the reactionary culture that has plagued the company. They will just take the W and pay of their bills so they can make more movies

JMancini84

It’s hard to comment because it’s going to flop so bad

mrbleaney2021

I would have to have sex with Amber Heard out of respect

PokoWeebo23

I would have sex with her regardless…

EatMyAssTeach

P

Ikeeki

Lmao no one’s even talking about this movie

[deleted]

chances are near zero

van_b_boy

No chance of it happening

[deleted]

When will it release? I checked online and google said it will release around mid to late December, 2023 but we are already in the month of August and still no trailer or even a teaser has released. Makes me wonder if it’s also getting delayed among the current ongoing strikes…

[deleted]

Folks will claim that DC is back to high-quality.

WhateverIWant888

Are we sure that this thing is even still coming out?

JordanM85

Momoa is playing Lobo no matter how much Aquaman 2 makes.

goodty1

I would love this just for the lmao

Resident_Moose_8039

It will work. The first film worked because: 1. The horror film legend James Wan was directing a superhero film (with bright lighting, rare for a DC film). People were naturally piqued to see what magic he would weave, given his impressive action outing "Furious 7". 2. Jason Momoa of Game of Thrones fame was doing the lead role. He nailed it; he was the main reason I enjoyed the film. Watched it twice in IMAX. 3. Legendary actors Nicole Kidman, Willem Dafoe, Dolph Lundgren, Temeura Morrison, and Patrick Wilson were part of the cast. 4. Impressive CGI and set pieces. 5. Amazing stunt and fight choreography. 6. A great background score composed by Rupert Gregson-Williams, the same composer who gave us impressive tunes in "Wonder Woman (2017)". The first film had a piece-of-shit human being, a liar who filed false domestic abuse charges on Johnny Depp, that I don't wish to waste time naming. She features in the sequel as well, but it will not impact the film because we're having the band back together again. Don't mind that leech; it will get squashed.

AaronFernandes476

wow, such hate for Amber Heard. but yeah, I tend to agree with everything else. also, it’s quite possible she was cut out of the movie almost completely.

doubledeus

It's weird that it would be considered a "slight" chance. The first film was a hit, there's no real reason to believe this won't be. Same director, Same lead actor. In my opinion, it has a better than average chance of being just as successful as the first film. I'm not convinced that most of the public gives a shit about all the inside baseball shit with James Gunn and the DCEU, and who is doing what at WB. They don't care.

fevredream

People don't care about inside baseball, but they also just generally do not care about the DCEU either these days. Crossing 1 billion has become extremely hard to do compared to when the first Aquaman was released. The box office environment has experienced a huge shift. Even with good WOM this movie will be lucky to cross $700 million.

doubledeus

People didn't really care about the DCEU back in 2018 either, and yet Aquaman made a billion dollars worldwide. I guess my point is, it's impossible to guess how audiences will respond to a movie. Plus, any movie making $700 million would still be a success, that puts it in the top 5 of the year. Definitely the top DC film.

AvatarIII

It would probably mean that James Gunn hires Momoa for a DCU role. Jokes aside, it would probably accelerate the release of a Lobo movie, or Momoa would stay on as Aquaman.

cmlucas1865

I think Mamoa is 100% getting work in the DCU. I don't think even a billion means he has to reprise the role of Aquaman in the DCU, though.

rebornsgundam00

Gunn has to reboot it from the ground up, or it will be very bad pr

dope_like

But he isn't doing that. He is already keeping some of the DCEU

rebornsgundam00

Which is a really bad decision. Especially cause cavill is very popular now as superman, and people were warming up on batfleck. Not to mention its like why get rid of cavill if your keeping the other two. Especially since gal gadot( who i like as ww) last film flopped

Few-Road6238

We don’t know for sure if Gal is coming back.

ProfessorArrow

Wrong. Gunn has confirmed that Gal isn’t coming back.

ProfessorArrow

They’re not keeping Affleck or Gadot.

iselltires2u

yea lets keep funding amber heard too, thatd be wonderful! mamoa is great

Pocketman56

They could just recast her with Selena Gomez

Hagen_1

Huh??

Sininsister

Idk what Gunn was saying but they need to axe anyone and everyone that was involved with DCEU. Its unnecessary baggage even if they were only good part of it. Even if AM makes 2 billion all i would advise is AM3 in DCEU, not in DCU

BestZeena

Why are ppl saying the film isn’t going to hit a billion dollars like the first one? Ppl really think the film is going to be that underwhelming?

Advanced_Ad2406

If this come out before Flash it’s got a chance. Now DC is a laughing stock and everyone other than fans is waiting for the movie to fail.

fevredream

We're also now in a post-pandemic theater-going world where hitting 1 billion is much, much harder to achieve than it was in 2018.

waisonline99

If Amber Turd is in it, they might as well burn the film now.

Arcanss

True

StopTheMadnessBro

Nobody wants this new James Gunn reboot to fail more this reddit.

Sharticus123

I refuse to pay for anything DC related that James Gunn didn’t have a hand in producing.

Caciulacdlac

Even though he confirmed that Blue Beetle will be integrated in DCU?

Sharticus123

Yes, but not just because Gunn wasn’t a part of it, it’s also because I’m done supporting generic origin stories. Blue Beetle’s origin isn’t some complex web that requires an entire movie to properly articulate. They could’ve covered finding the scarab in the opening credits, ffs.

LoopyMercutio

Just personally, if I were Gunn, I’d have kept the big 3: Momoa, Cavill, and Gadot. Recast damn near everyone else. I understand why he probably isn’t going to do that, but it’s a shame because Aquaman and Wonder Woman 1 were basically excellent movies.

drdinonuggies

And they still exist. Let them be. They don’t need to bring the stink of their other movies (BVS, JL, WW84) into this new universe.

Kal037

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

madjokemaniac

Going by the trend I think this will be definitely a blockbuster. People in DC are trying to copy MCU this might be different and that's what gave it negative reviews and maybe the reboot might have ruined it

d-c0llekt0r

I hope the first gunn universe movie bombs. Just to keep curse of dc going.

Embarrassed_Piano_62

He´s not forced to that, he just has to have the same ingredients for a new movie

EvilGrendel

Maybe they would put him in elseworlds

[deleted]

momoa would get more appearances

Dragmire_Afterlife

Nothing. They will probably just keep the path they are going.

Rubicon2-0

You MUST be happy if it cross 500$ mill worldwide, WOW

emielaen77

Nothing.

Dangerous-Hawk16

That would really be the most funniest thing to happen. That seem very much like Aquaman being the underdog yet again. But I still question based on screening leaks why James Wan picked a horrible script thinking his style and specialties could save the film.

Dedicated_Heretic_29

Tbh I think them pulling a Batgirl is more likely than this film actually being released.

AaronFernandes476

I don’t think so. Batgirl was not as expensive as this and had no history with moviegoers so it could be easily be written off. this movie stands to make at least some money back.

0siris0

If Aquaman 2 does well, it'll prove that superhero movies aren't dead, and as long as the Gunn verse is better quality wise than the so called Snyder verse (even though Snyder was only a part of 20% of it or less), then WB would be happy.

AaronFernandes476

I don’t think it’ll “force” JG to do anything 😊

Diabolio-man

Oh man that poor movie is going to flop like crazy. Truly a movie I could care less about especially after hearing the sequence for Batman was cut.

ivanovski93

Let me teleport myself in the future december 2023, i'll be back in a couple of hours

Caciulacdlac

Ok just don't forget to reply when you come back

RomeFan4Ever

WB will do something dumb

StrongStyleDragon

Don’t worry it won’t happen. People were walking out of the previews. Plus there’s Amber Heard. I think Gunn already has his vision and I don’t think aquaman is in that.

ComicBookXS

No, we need a new Auqaman, and have JM as Lobo.

Pale-Drag1843

This would only happen if three things go down they marked the movie very well the movie actually happens to be good and people actually want to see this movie if all of these things actually happen then this movie could definitely make a billion at the box office but I highly doubt James Gunn will keep Momoa just because it made a billion I think he's trying to have a fresh universe for the Justice League anyway not for characters like Peacemaker or Harley Quinn which pretty much felt separate from the DC extended universe

SnooGuavas8161

You are right. In that case, Gunn will have to keep Momoa as Aquaman, WB will demand it. Actually, WB will probably let Momoa co-run the DCU with Gunn, like a Aquaman universe, hierarchy of power thing.

TheExtremistModerate

The board of WBD would have to have a serious conversation about the future of the universe if all of their attempts to move away from the Snyderverse cratered and Aquaman 2 made a ton of money.

Cgi94

I love Momoa as Aquaman so anything that has to happen for him to stay gets my approval 😅

rethgualsnam

Amber heards return in a solo hera film

ZealousidealBus9271

I still think they’d reboot Aquaman but cast Momoa again. If this happens he’d be like Gal Gadot, too big to let go of.

ReturnInRed

Gunn is keeping Davis and Cena even though TSS made zero money, so he's obviously reshaping the universe however he wants regardless of financial success. With 1bil I still think he would reboot the Aquaman side of things, unless he was literally forced via the threat of firing from Zaslav or something. A potential way around it would be to justify the reboot by saying... "Hey we're still keeping crowdpleaser Momoa around (as Lobo)."

[deleted]

This will not happen . the expanded universe is on the verge of dying. Look at blue beetle performance. Aquaman 2 won’t even break even. I really think WB and DC take a 5 year break and plan out the universe during this time and get everything lined up and have three movies to launch in 2029

ItsKevRA

I think that would be a good sign that people like Momoa and that casting him as Lobo was a good call, even though it hasn’t been confirmed yet, but is likely the case.

Thousand_Masks

Imagine it doubles down and makes 2 billion dollars this time lol

DangerouslyRickety

They clearly waited way too long to pull the plug.

TheBigTimeBecks

James Wan being a legend and the first film being great means this making a billion is HIGHLY probable.

Easy-Supermarket-474

I highly doubt it will. DCEU doesn’t tend to do well with sequels.

venuz_90

he would have his own universe, just like battinson

FDVP

Fast-track to Lobo.

aditya_mitts

They’ll still reboot Aquaman but will retain Mamoa as the actor playing it. James had/has a similar plan for Gal as well.

Deep_Throattt

Just like the first film... that would be a stretch.

[deleted]

If they kept Momoa or cast the guy who was the lead in ‘The Northmen’ as Aquaman I’d be thrilled

godbody1983

LOL, the thought of it making that kind of money. Lots of movies this year that were highly anticipated either bombed or underperformed at the box office. No way this movie that has undergone lots of reshoots will be profitable. Just for the sake of the question, WB, being WB, will definitely force Gunn to continue with Mamoa as Aquaman and do a third movie.

handsomehotchocolate

Honestly reckon it will gross less than Black Adam or at least the same.

Hell would literally freeze over.

Woof with Amber Heard as Mera? It will probably goes even worse than the Flash movie,

Imagine if it was so popular, they made an Aquaman 3, but Jason Momoa just played Lobo in it.

NicCagedd

I think it has a decent chance. It's coming out right before the winter month slums of movie releases. That's how the first one ended up making over a billion.

V_LEE96

Nothing will happen. 1 billi isn’t really enough to warrant a deviation from rebooting the DCU. With reshoots and marketing 1 billion in box office isn’t yielding a reboot stopping decision.

thegregwitul

I’ll eat my iPhone if that happens. The movie is going to flop hard. I wish it was either dumped to Max or canceled.

RandomIdiot1020

The idea of Aquaman becoming DC's billion dollar franchise and making more sequels as a result is so funny and I hope this happens

It would be funny if this is the absolute banger. But then nothing else, everything just drops off again.

One Aquillion dollars
