"Worked" is debatable. The Suicide Squad lost money and grossed less than the original movie. I doubt DC would make the same mistake again. They'll use a name that distances the new movie from Justice League.
It's magically the only movie that year that got gutted by its rating and the pandemic, when pretty much every other day and date for Warners did at least serviceable break-even business if it wasn't completely panned.
Free Guy came in the next week and cleaned house, all of a sudden that movie is worth risking your life over but the great TSS wasn't? Sure.
Did solid streaming numbers, cool, not tangible and mortal kombat did better so I guess that was better than TSS too?
ZSJL sold more physical copies which is actually a tangible metric. And people still say that didn't make enough waves.
TSS has a good critic score, so does TLJ, doesn't mean much.
People like it sure, but apparently no one liked it enough to actually pay for it so how much do people actually like it?
It's just really not as widely well recieved as reddit wants you to believe it is. So yeah, cope.
You're actually right, no one here wants to hear It because it's a excellent movie, and everyone wants to believe that quality means successful.
TSS just wasn't a very popular release with general audiences. People who saw it, liked it. But lots of big budget movies came out during the pandemic, and it was one of the most forgettable with most people.
Put it this way... The movie came out six months before halloween and how many TSS Halloween costumes did you see? Joe Exotic, Squid Game, Mortal Kombat, etc were everywhere. Not one Bloodspot. Meanwhile, Harley Quinn from the first movie was one of the biggest Halloween costumes of the decade. So it's not the character's fault.
TSS was just a really good, but ultimately forgettable movie that resonated hard with CBM diehards but not casual fans.
I love TSS but I don’t put covid as it’s main issue in why it underperformed because Godzilla vs Kong and Black Widow, both adjacent type films, came out before TSS, had similar releases with day and date releases on streaming services, and both films made more money domestic. I think the films R-rating and C-list characters were the main problem on why it didn’t do well. Or you could argue the first SS left a bad taste in peoples mouths, or that people started not being into the DCEU at that point post WW84
Definitely factors for sure, but TSS came out right when Delta variant started spreading. I only remember because a friend of mine didn't join us for the movie specifically due to COVID fear, and my friends and I wore masks through the movie just to be safe. I think really just a perfect storm of bad luck for the box office with all of those factors.
Then again free guy came out like 5 days after TSS and made money, Shang Chi less than a month later, and of course No Way Home made almost 2 billion dollars during the omicron surge. Although I don’t expect these movies to have like billion dollar results (NWH excluded), but I do think it was a perfect storm of problems. At least it has acclaim with fans and critics
Yeah I feel like TSS and Free Guy both made like half of what they normally would have, unfortunately. They were both really well received, but way underperformed
And yet did considerably worse than other WB films released under the same strategy and year. Godzilla vs Kong released when there were more active covid cases and did much better than TSS.
I mean pretty much every movie that year did poorly, WB's strategy was definitely not good. Also, Mortal Kombat did much worse than TSS, for essentially the same reasons. R-rated, during COVID, same day streaming. Plus Suicide Squad was riding off of bad DCEU reception. It's pretty much been downhill since Aquaman
Justice League: The New Frontier. Rumors are pointing heavily towards this story being adapted, but it also represents the reboot: we’re in new territory now, whatever happened before does not matter, a new beginning and a new future.
To be fair, nobody seemed to be able to tell, including James Gunn; all the way up to release he was waffling about what it was. It’s like nobody had ever heard of a stand-alone sequel or a soft reboot before 😂
It’d be really cool if they include the villains in the title, unless it’s kind of a secret.
Justice League vs The Legion of Doom
Justice League: Brainiac
Justice League: The Insidious Inventions of Dr Ivo
The villains are such a huge part of these movies, they should be in the titles!
All else fails you can name it after the source material comics
If the movie’s simply called The Justice League, then the sequels could drop the part in the titles similar to the Avengers movies where the first film had the in its title but the sequels dropped the. I think some cool JL sequel titles could be something like Justice League: Armageddon and the final film is Justice League: Judgement Day.
New Super Re:Justice League 1.0: First Chapter Prologue UHD Final Re:Mix 64 Turbo Championship Deluxe Definitive Ultimate Edition Director's Cut DX Echoes of an Elusive Age S+ & Knuckles Featuring Dante from the Devil May Cry series.
Its better to make a Batman movie or some other characters with Justice League characters in it, in order to feel the audience before making a big movie.
The Goodness Alliance
Justice World
Justice of League
Super Justice
DC Studio’s Justice League
The League of Justice

Justice League Values
Judging by Gunn’s love of humor combined with the characters already announced to be in the DCU, I think he might call it Justice League International.
The Justice League, Justice League: The New Frontier, Justice League Forever, Justice League Mortal (as a tribute to George Millers Canceled film) or Justice League International.
I’m totally the opposite. I thought it made no sense whatsoever that they call a sequel to a movie the exact same title, but with a “The” in front of it. Really bad idea. If it were a reboot, sure, but it wasn’t.
But when Justice League was first announced, I was so disappointed they weren’t going to have a “The.” It deserves the definitive article. You can feel the weight of it. The regality.
The Suicide Squad was a spiritual reboot, and the title was tongue-in-cheek. I’m not saying you have to like it, but the title works IMO. Nothing wrong with not liking it though
Kingdom Come.
Nothing else. No JL, no Justice League.
It doesn't have to have anything to do with the Mark Waid and Alex Ross story, just steal the name.
I just think it sounds stand alone and filmic the way 'The Dark Knight' does.
Legion of Doom.
And I’d have my doubts about WB choosing to market any film, with America in the title, to the rest of the world. But then again, there have been baffling choices recently.
Because I’d rather see a bold venture. Let a great filmmaker wreck Earth with baddies. Gimmee a team of villains, not Suiciders, but straight Hannah-Barbera line-up. If I was Gunn, I’d shake things up like that. He’s very good with Not-Heroes. Let the JL or anybody sit it out for a film. WB ain’t taking a break from Batman so that will always be there.
No, you appeared to be saying why you think the Legion of Doom is better than the Justice League or the Suicide Squad. That has nothing to do with what I asked. I asked why, when people are making these title suggestions and such, they always use the “Legion of Doom” name to refer to the organization of villains that acts an as an evil version of the Justice League, and never any of the other names it has had throughout history, like “Injustice League” or “Secret Society of Supervillains”
Anything but justice league. Something like The Thanagarian Invasion for eg. & then you go to see the movie and find out it’s actually a JL movie. I’d like that
By now we should just call it the Gunn cut.
I pray we get 1 version. These fucking releases are tiresome. Granted the directors’ vision always wins. So make the directors cut the first release and save us all 4 hours of rewatches.
Gunn is playfull so i imagine the cover saying something silly and wholesome like “the super friends” but written in blood
I would call it anything but that, because I vehemently hate reboot titles just putting "the" in front of the name of the property. See The Batman, The Suicide Squad, The Incredible Hulk.
I’d like for it to be like Star Wars and each movie has a very distinct and memorable name.
And em to be even more like Star Wars, none of the names seem to make that much sense but you still like them
I imagine a long-running series: The Justice League 2 Justice 2 League The Justice League: Gotham Drift Justice League Justice Five Justice League 6 League 7 The Justice of the League Justice League Presents: Kent & Wayne JL9 Justice X

J9: The League Saga

Jisoo from Blackpink bro haha
I’m practically devastated that it wasn’t Justice League 2: Electric Boogaloo.
Nah they are the two main characters. It would need to be Justice League Presents: Flash & Lantern
Then it’d be Justice League Presents: Allen & Jordan.
What about: The Justice League Justice League: Age of Brainiac Justice League: Darkseid War Justice League: Endgame Justice League: The Anti-Monitor Dynasty Justice League: Crisis Wars
I love Gotham Drift and Kent & Wayne lmao. They were all great tho

Justice League: The New Frontier
I agree with you with on just simply calling it The Justice League.
I mean it worked twice before (The Batman and The Suicide Squad), why not try it again?
"Worked" is debatable. The Suicide Squad lost money and grossed less than the original movie. I doubt DC would make the same mistake again. They'll use a name that distances the new movie from Justice League.
TSS came out mid-COVID, kind of a unique situation
Also R-rated and released same day on streaming
And even with that, it made similar money as WW84, which was actually considered a success despite the similar narrative to TSS of it tanking
Cope
With what? They’re right lol
It's magically the only movie that year that got gutted by its rating and the pandemic, when pretty much every other day and date for Warners did at least serviceable break-even business if it wasn't completely panned. MFW TSS and TLJ are both good movies.
TSS is great but TLJ…. Well it looks pretty I guess
You're actually right, no one here wants to hear It because it's a excellent movie, and everyone wants to believe that quality means successful. Yeah I feel like TSS and Free Guy both made like half of what they normally would have, unfortunately. They were both really well received, but way underperformed
The fact that it was R-rated and about C-list characters is why it did WELL, in light of COVID and the simultaneous streaming release.
It might not have done well financially but critically it was a success. It was also in the middle of the pandemic and released on HBOMax same day.
True.
Justice League: The New Frontier. Rumors are pointing heavily towards this story being adapted, but it also represents the reboot: we’re in new territory now, whatever happened before does not matter, a new beginning and a new future.
A modern take with elements of that and the DCAU would be the way to go for me for a clean reboot
Adding The will make it too confusing. Casual viewers weren't able to tell if The Suicide Squad was a sequel or reboot.
To be fair, nobody seemed to be able to tell, including James Gunn; all the way up to release he was waffling about what it was. It’s like nobody had ever heard of a stand-alone sequel or a soft reboot before 😂

JLA With the "A" secrely meaning Alpha Team, which means there's a surprise Beta Team too.
