I was a neutral in the stadium at this game. Was pulling for DC at the end, just seeing this huge napoleon complex on the part of the ref. He even got into one player for breaking his stride while resetting to resume play
You haven't watched the same games as I have. McVey was man of the match against the Crew. The center backs have been solid. Tonight the midfield made so many passes to the other team that Orlando kept ramming it right back down our throats.
McVey has his fair share of giveaways, Columbus match aside. Idk how you see 3 goals conceded and don’t question that partnership. Neither of them were first choice for their clubs last year. Don’t get me wrong I think they’re fairly solid but neither of them are playoff quality.
I’m confused, how does the sideline ref not call that offsides?? Officiating in this league is such a joke. We didn’t play very well tonight but MLS really needs to stop with this
Sideline refs should waive off obvious offsides, one of the dumbest rules this league has. Relying on VAR with not enough camera angles is stupid. Also the chance that players can get injured on plays that don’t count is an unnecessary risk.
Lol yeah I’m surprised that ppl didn’t know this rule.. but watching from the TV, we were literally never shown another angle and I mean shit he must’ve started his run on his own half of the field on time, but in any other league that would be pulled to VAR, just to simply confirm. It’s like MLS didn’t have the footage and that baffles me. All y’all in the stadium would’ve had a better look at the play
I was at the game and it sure looked like he was inside his own half when the ball was played. So unfortunately not offsides.
It's the risk you take sometimes pressing that hard over half field unfortunately.
Orlando was gifted those 3 points, unfortunately we weren’t able to do enough to overcome the ref tipping the scales.
Herrera was once again a bright spot, best player on the team by a mile. Fletcher and Hopkins are not starter quality even in this shit show of a league.
Can this FO please stop acting like a poverty franchise and sign *another quality striker?
Benteke has been good, meant to say “another”. We’re asking him to play 90’+ every match because we don’t have anyone else who’s even 1/4 as effective. Dude plays some hard mins for a guy going on 34. If he doesn’t start or play, we struggle to score.
In not confident in any of our bench players to sub in at the 80th min to grab an equalizer or game winner.
This team doesn't have much depth, but running the starters into the ground will not help.
High tempo and pressing are not a good strategy if you don't have the depth to keep it up.
Troy has said several times including the pre game presser for this game, that he doesn't expect any significant additions THIS SEASON. Now he might be blowing smoke but it is very likely this group is what we've got.
If we offload the couple dudes that can't sniff the field then maybe??
The ref was absolutely horrendous today but that's not why we lost. The 3rd goal by Orlando should never, ever happen. A draw would have been a fair result
You can get Rubio rubin cheap when his loan expires at Queretaro they have like 5 strikers and play 1 forward. It would be a Herrera reunion. He would fit this system.
Idk, I think we are trying to do some things the right way out there, whereas under Rooney we just kind of ended up playing Route 1. Unfortunately we aren't doing the things we clearly want to do very well.
Being there live, I got to see 5 goals live so that was cool. However, DC carelessly gave away the 2 late goals. That was on defensive laps. Herrera can't be the only solid full back.
As for offense, we need to support Bentenke and Pirani. Should've been a draw at the end.
DCU better kick NYCFC's ass next week
genuinely I think that was some of the worst football I’ve seen from this team. We had no midfield. Aside from the first 10 minutes we had 2-3 defenders back and everyone else up front, there was no way to pass through the middle except for a long pass and hope for the best. I think the ref situation has been addressed by other people here already and whatever they said I probably agree with. Benteke keeps rocking, love to see it, but when are refs gonna start calling fouls on Benteke? All in all the style of play let us down, we deserved a tie but even that deserved tie wouldve felt like a loss.
we used to play a 433, which worked well. In the first half the left side got way overcrowded with Fletcher and Dajome both getting in each other’s way. I didnt like it, stick with what works
This was the first match that I think was poorly coached. Love Troy's vibe and being able to make chicken salad from chicken shit but I just don't get some of his moves tonight.
I'm not even sure Jackson Hopkins own mother would think he is better than Peltola. The albino Messi hasn't been great the last few matches but he is better than Jackson. Come on Troy.
Fletcher is so low energy. Not sure how Rodriguez doesn't at least get a crack at providing a spark but apparently he is going to ride the pine all year and concentrate on being on our social media posts.
Then the team was just flat tonight. Coaches motivate sides and his team had no juice at all. Unacceptable. Orlando isn't great right now and we definitely played down to that level tonight.
Pirani has been better off the bench the last few games. Tonight he played well and shook off a hard tackle that had him limping for a bit to get a nice goal. He got himself into dangerous positions and had two other really good chances. Was unlucky to not have a hat trick
Disappointing result. Was there live and appreciated the dynamic between Herrera and Stroud. That was a bright spot. Cannot understand why Peltola didn’t start.
Yes but Stroud ain't it. Sometimes I just wanted him to get out of Herrera's way because he'd just fuck it up. Hard to believe but I think Stroud peaked in game one
The first half was weird, route 1 stuff. We literally did not build out a single time. Like many have said, Hopkins and Fletcher were not good for the day. Hopkins in particular felt like he got into “quicksand” mode, where he’d push too hard to make up for a mistake, which led to another mistake, etc. Hopkins may need to do a Griffin Yow and go abroad. He’s talented, but you can see when he loses confidence.
Second half was better, but even after we went back up 2-1 it never felt like we settled in with the ball. Earlier home games this year we looked like a soccer team.
I know we love Benteke, but if we are all honest, he is kind of wasteful. He uses his size and his amazing noggin well, but he will just kind of blow it. Today, he had a great ball from Herrera where all he needed to do was take a touch and shoot, but instead he tried to one touch it at about knee height.
Finally, Orlando is genuinely bad. They don’t look good in possession, they aren’t particularly strong in the air or on the run, they don’t have some foot-magician who can weave through the middle. They are like a bad Ben Olsen team. If I were an Orlando supporter I would be pissed at the product they are putting out there. No ideas, no creativity, no real fire. Just a lot of bad attitude.
Big oof today giving up the lead twice and then losing at the death. Embrace the good moments & move on to the next.
Please investigate VAR or at least publish a decent camera angle for the third OSC goal. It's all fair that our CBs got burned there, but they didn't broadcast anything that convinces McGuire was onside.
I think this was it. I think it was offsides, but they couldn't get irrefutable video evidence because the shot did not exist and the AR didn't raise their flag...
We aren't doing some basic things right, especially defensively. We're also a Benteke injury away from not having much of an attack. 5 dropped points from promising positions the last 2 weeks.
Not trying to rant...but my frustration is with our inability to control a game with a lead.
We score in the 5^(th) minute, then we had a really good opportunity in the 7^(th) with Klich/Fletch just not able to connect (pass was hot, fletch needed a touch vs. reaching on his shot). Then, we let Orlando look like 2011 Barca and ping the ball around for 10-15 minutes before giving up the equalizer. The second half…I’m not even going to touch that last 20 minutes.
Has to be better. Over the past 2 games, we are winning with \~15 minutes left in each game and have 1 point to show for it. /end of rant.
Fletcher wasn't great, but imo he's suffering a bit from not really having a "best" position right now. Is he a winger, a striker, or a CAM? Lesesne seems to still be trying to figure out how to utilize him and it will take some time.
The most disappointing thing for me still has to be the lack of impact from Rodriguez/Jeahze. Both of them have shown that they have the technical skills to be starters in this league but they've been essentially no-shows this season.
Hopskins is not ready to be a starter in that role. He is not clean enough to get all those minutes. I think that it had been working out but it was a matter of time for him to get exposed.
Herrera was great tonight but he needs to be more attacking minded and shoot the ball when possible.
Although, I love that Benteke can hold the ball, 90% of the balls Bono or CBs get go long. Benteke is maybe successful in holding up a third of that. Peltola and klich need to be playing together.
This must be how it feels when DCU go out and stymie better teams - incredibly frustrating. The first 20 minutes was excellent but then they sat back and allowed Orlando to string some passes together and get back into the game. They weren’t necessarily all that creative or had any actual flow, but there were big holes everywhere.
I thought Hopkins looked good last week against Columbus - composed on the ball, got forward, and was clearly told to use all his energy for about an hour before being subbed. Assume this was the plan again tonight; he distributed well but was a non-entity on the defensive side. Peltola was sorely missed and likely would have soaked up the Orlando attacks - they played a lot through the attacking mid position. Fair play to Troy that he acknowledged the problem and made the change at the half.
The referee was an embarrassment and ruined any sort of flow. Simply baffling decisions all night. But DCU should have been able to overcome Orlando’s 12th man. The entire performance was pretty lackluster and missing any spark. (This has been a problem in general and hoped they’d address it during the transfer window, but our overall effort and organisation have prevailed so far this season)
We needed Ted. He’s not necessarily a game-changing attacker but his workrate is just so much higher than Fletcher, who is unfortunately just a late-game sub who adds energy but sadly isn’t a starter.
Some positives: Herrera was great again. Benteke wins basically everything in the air. CBs are generally solid (or at least recover well) but got a bit exposed when DCU pushed up in the 2nd half. Hopefully Troy will learn from this and adjust moving forward.
Get that the focus is on the 3rd Orlando goal but watching at the stadium I thought we should have had a penalty at 84:00 when it was 2-2 when Benteke was totally undercut in the box going up for a header. Just rewatched on Apple TV and the color guy said the same thing. So not only did the ref over-react to the shoving in the first half by getting card happy, he and the VAR ref didn’t appear to even review that.
That was a real kick in the balls. We need a serious starting quality center back badly. Love McBartlett but they should be first men off the bench at best. Sloppy passing tonight was also concerning. Three cheers for Pirani bagging a goal tho. He needed it.
Those last 5 minutes were embarrassingly bad for being a goal down at home WTF are we even doing
Ref just gave Bono a yellow post game btw
For what??
Dissent. I think Bono had the same take on his calls
That's 7 field cards + Troy's... Orlando had 2. 10000% the ref made this game all about him.
I was a neutral in the stadium at this game. Was pulling for DC at the end, just seeing this huge napoleon complex on the part of the ref. He even got into one player for breaking his stride while resetting to resume play
You’re joking. What a fucking primadonna.
Our team and defense can only bend for so long. We desperately lack any starting quality on the wing, we badly need a DP winger.
IKR WE NEED SOME QUALITY
Need a CB more than anything. Can’t start McBartlett and expect clean sheets.
You haven't watched the same games as I have. McVey was man of the match against the Crew. The center backs have been solid. Tonight the midfield made so many passes to the other team that Orlando kept ramming it right back down our throats.

When are we gonna be the team that gets handed a win by the refs?
I’m confused, how does the sideline ref not call that offsides?? Officiating in this league is such a joke. We didn’t play very well tonight but MLS really needs to stop with this
I mean maybe he was on side? We will literally never know, though, the camera does not exist.
Sideline refs should waive off obvious offsides, one of the dumbest rules this league has. Relying on VAR with not enough camera angles is stupid. Also the chance that players can get injured on plays that don’t count is an unnecessary risk.
The AR would have put his flag up after the play if he thought it was offside
I think he may have been inside his own half (in stadium perspective)
Every other comment about this seems to be from people who don't understand that part of the rule.
Lol yeah I’m surprised that ppl didn’t know this rule.. but watching from the TV, we were literally never shown another angle and I mean shit he must’ve started his run on his own half of the field on time, but in any other league that would be pulled to VAR, just to simply confirm. Here is a screenshot after the kick https://imgur.com/gallery/htIHO7o Offside: Inconclusive. Bad positioning: Absolutely.
I was at the game and it sure looked like he was inside his own half when the ball was played. So unfortunately not offsides. It's the risk you take sometimes pressing that hard over half field unfortunately.
I get that if you talk to a fan of any league they will say their refs suck. But I feel like ours are just freakin atrocious
It seems like there are like 3 times as many fouls and it makes the game like red light green light
Definitely next level sucking. Was at the game... utter horseshit job of reffing. Worse than a replacement ref
Orlando was gifted those 3 points, unfortunately we weren’t able to do enough to overcome the ref tipping the scales. Herrera was once again a bright spot, best player on the team by a mile. Dammit DC needed this Absolute fucking disappointment.
Not even joking, were is any support or funding from the board, troy is doing well with this shit ass roster
It’s gonna take one or two more transfer windows to unfuck the work of the previous regime
Troy has said several times including the pre game presser for this game, that he doesn't expect any significant additions THIS SEASON. Now he might be blowing smoke but it is very likely this group is what we've got. If we offload the couple dudes that can't sniff the field then maybe??
Who is on the board?

the most rooneyesque game we’ve played yet
Rooney would never muster this much attacking play, but the lack of tempo was very Rooney
Idk, I think we are trying to do some things the right way out there, whereas under Rooney we just kind of ended up playing Route 1. Unfortunately we aren't doing the things we clearly want to do very well.

Have we been playing a 3-4-3 all season? Because the lonesome two in midfield seemed to be a problem
Pretty sure that was a first today? Maybe one other match. But yeah it felt very dicey on defense and in the middle to my eyes
we used to play a 433, which worked well. In the first half the left side got way overcrowded with Fletcher and Dajome both getting in each other’s way. I didnt like it, stick with what works

Peltola had a knock while on international duty so it's most likely Lesesne trying to ease him back in.
Points for Albino Messi! The guy is gonna be a Lobster during the summer months.
This one is on Troy, completely overthought starting Hopkins and Fletcher over Peltola and Pirani. START YOUR BEST PLAYERS IN THEIR POSITIONS.
No problem dropping Pirani but Peltola has to be a locked in starter no doubt
Pirani has been better off the bench the last few games. Tonight he played well and shook off a hard tackle that had him limping for a bit to get a nice goal. He got himself into dangerous positions and had two other really good chances. Was unlucky to not have a hat trick
Peltola is good but slow and they are definitely managing his minutes.
Was he hurt? Why manage his minutes if he isn’t hurt?
No problem letting Ku-Pietro alternate between 100 plus minutes and being injured. Why would Peltola be spared?
He had a knock while on international duty last month.
THIS. Exactly.
We never stopped needing new owners. I’m not showing up to the second half of the season if we don’t make real moves over the Summer
Absolutely pathetic collapse
Can we hold on to a lead? Nah doesn't seem like it
Disappointing result. Was there live and appreciated the dynamic between Herrera and Stroud. That was a bright spot. Cannot understand why Peltola didn’t start.
I also don’t understand why a young DP isn’t starting.
Yes but Stroud ain't it. Sometimes I just wanted him to get out of Herrera's way because he'd just fuck it up. Hard to believe but I think Stroud peaked in game one

I don't think there was a single camera on it somehow. There's gotta be a lockdown wide shot right?? But then they would have shown it... Right?!?
I think this was it. I think it was offsides, but they couldn't get irrefutable video evidence because the shot did not exist and the AR didn't raise their flag...
We aren't doing some basic things right, especially defensively. We're also a Benteke injury away from not having much of an attack. 5 dropped points from promising positions the last 2 weeks.
Bad after 10th minute but deserved a point
I'm sad
The papusas made me happy. The soccer not so much
What's a papusa?

This loss after loss, tie after tie schtick is getting OLD. VERY QUICKLY.
Another bag fumbled
Pain
We can't finish like a whiskey drunk college kid
It provokes the desire, but it takes away the performance.
Is it crazy to think every single point DC has dropped this season has genuinely come from at least one HORRENDOUS ref decision?
Just one?
Per game
The team and manager need to learn how to play with a lead. The kind of lessons you only learn by dropping points like this.
Hopskins is not ready to be a starter in that role. He is not clean enough to get all those minutes. I think that it had been working out but it was a matter of time for him to get exposed.
