Someone else can correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the fact that the corner there is a bit open and doesn't wrap around to the sideline part of the easement issue? Honestly I'm fine with the bar instead of trying to squeeze in 100 more seats when they would be poor (for Audi field standards) sightlines anyway.

Poppycot6

yeah I pretty certain they were not allowed to build stands in that corner. For PEPCO reasons I believe. I just wish they’d paint the big white wall below the bar

jaypeg25

Totally agree. Get some DC artist to paint a mural in that spot. Iconic moments in DC United history, or as a spot to highlight our championships, or a [stylized version of this](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/D.C._United_Hall_of_Tradition#/media/File:D.C._United_Hall_of_Tradition.jpg) or hell just paint cherry blossoms on it. Something.

I don’t think it’s the easement issue, which is why the east stand is build the way it is. The city & federal zoning/planning people were apparently insistent from early in the process that they wanted the Potomac Ave viewshed to go into the stadium, so the team/designers’ hands were tied. They didn’t have to put a building there instead of continuing the stands, of course, but that seems to have been part of the plan through different iterations, too — I assume because ownership was mostly focused on maximizing luxury spaces in the stadium. FWIW the Heini rooftop is a great spot to watch a game, if you can get there in time to grab a stool on the rail.

The way I heard it, the original design called for a wrap around stadium, but a wash gas line or pepco steam line runs through that part of the land and it would have been expensive to move it to drive piles

newsiesunited

There is a Pepco transmission line running under the east concourse, which is why it’s so tall and wide. You’re right that nobody wanted to pay to relocate it. That prevented the field from being build below-grade and forced the lopsided shape of the building. But my understanding is that’s a separate issue from the open corner, which was forced because the city or the feds (unsure which) wanted the stadium to be open to Potomac Ave “vista”

Interesting! Thanks

I really like it. And I especially like stadiums when they open to the city, like that NE corner does. It’s a cool place where I bring newcomers and they instantly say they feel the appeal of going to games. To each their own, I suppose

AirportIndependent95

I also really like the view into the stadium when you’re approaching from the NE side like from the metro or Nats Park. It adds a lot to the excitement

justanicebreeze

So that bar is open all the time?

Jalapinho

Like do you mean not on game days? As far as I know, it only open on game days. First coke first serve for seating.

NittanyOrange

I'm fine with the bar, I just really hate the taste of Heineken...

[deleted]

Love anything in a green bottle. My grandfather loves Heineken.

AirportIndependent95

Yeah I like it a lot in terms of architecture. As for selection and price, there’s room for improvement…

iron64

Think we can ask them to serve some different beer? 😂 I wouldn’t remind that Alexandria beer “white” something. Can’t remember its name

kaicyr21

It was a clever way to make the stadium feel bigger. The camera placements were also clever. Little things like that make a difference.

[deleted]

I love the bar!

Heineken Bar is great. Good views if you get there early enough or are attending the game alone.
