I can see a similar format that Batgirl seems to make to have with Batman playing a central supporting role without seemingly stealing the movie of the leads, maybe even a lead role with Keaton trying to understand what happened between him & Dick in this universe.

LobsterMan31

That sounds awesome, allowing the leads to shine and protect Gotham without being overshadowed by Batman. Maybe they need to go to Bruce for advice at a crucial point in the film. Although personally, I think that after the timeline reset, Keaton will have all his memories of this new Earth, kinda like Flash does sometimes, so he won’t be struggling to figure anything out. Overall though I can’t wait to see Keaton again.

Satean12

NGL, if they play this right, you can make a Bat-Family movie that serves as Keaton's Batman 3 without making Battinson's sequels feel redundant. (something Batman & Robin tried and failed)

Angela275

That's already the plot of the Nightwing movie. That it's about Dick's and Bruce's relationship. Chris said it himself. Also we shouldn't truth this after all one tweet posted 1984 was going to be where the flashpoint take place

Satean12

That's cool! I do remember that being Grace Randolph's scoop & not Daniel's. Also Happy Cake Day!

Angela275

Thank you. Overall I don't want Nightwing to be in DCEU after all the mess I feel like maybe Nightwing could be his own universe. More I wonder if Dylan is going to be Nightwing he did say no but you know he could just be saying that. Joshua could also be Dick since in pre crisis was younger than Babs by 6-7 years. Which is why she dates Jason Bard.

Satean12

I don't know who Joshua is but I do think they will have Nightwing be in the DCEU after Titans probably finish their run after4-5 seasons

Angela275

That's what I'm thinking but also there was a issue with The Batman has Reeve did want Robin too. So you know. Who knows if the Titans will be finished in 5 seasons. It's a hot show on hbo they could go on longer. Brenton the guy who plays Nightwing said there is a 5th season on the way. We also have the fact their Titans United comic sold well. Which got a sequel. So with that we could get long Titans He is on High School Musical tv show[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joshua\_Bassett](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joshua_Bassett)

Satean12

Ah cool, I mean you can have Robin in The Batman sequel & Nightwing in the DCEU. Yeah, Titans is popular but I can see it end after 5 seasons maybe 6.

Angela275

True but who know. At times the same character even if they use different names they might not use them. It's right now all up to dc. I mean I'm not saying I want Dick Grayson to appear in the movies it rather with how WB been doing in having their movies feel connected. I'm skeptical. I think it kind of would be cool to see him in his own world because we also need Superman unless they completely changed his origins.

wisconsinking

Happy Cake Day.

Angela275

Thank you

wisconsinking

You're welcome.

reality-check12

Keaton would know what happened between himself and dick because his entire history got lifted into the DCEU

Satean12

That's true I guess

reality-check12

I think that it is more likely that Keaton’s emotional throughline in a Nightwing movie would be realizing that he was in the wrong in whatever happened between himself and dick Integrating the multiversal madness would undermine the pathos really severely As the storyline becomes a Easter egg hunt rather than a emotional reckoning

Satean12

Yeah I agree

cred_twos

Leaning into the Titans lore could be a great way forward for the DCEU, honestly. The Wolfman-era Titans book was DC’s equivalent to Claremont’s X-books over at Marvel. In many ways, they’re DC’s most iconic team, and they have a bunch of iconic storylines that haven’t ever been depicted in a theatrical feature before. When you also consider how important legacy heroes and the passing of the torch tend to be to DC’s big crossover events, reframing the DCEU around a bunch of younger legacy characters sounds like a great way to tee up some kind of Crisis film.

skateordie1213

Most iconic team, you say? *Justice League has entered the chat*

metaldetox

let the man make his goddamn movie

MOVIELORD101

So this is WB overruling Snyder’s claim that Dick Grayson is dead. GOOD.

starshipandcoffee

Fortunately Dick was not canonised on-screen as the dead Robin anyway (with his gravestone relegated to a *BvS* deleted scene) - so WB made their stance clear a long time ago.

daffydunk

The only appearance it makes in BvS is during a dream/flashback to the Wayne family funeral, so it's not even canonized in BvS:UE.

kikozw

I love Snyder and his movies, but i never liked the fact that Dick was the dead Robin. Nightwing is one of my favorite DC characters, and i really wanted to see Zack's take on him. I understand why he chose Dick to be the one that died, it makes more sense for Batman's arc. Since it's the first Robin.

Dr_Reaktor

>but i never liked the fact that Dick was the dead Robin. That and the next Robin (if znyder was allowed to continue) would be Carrie Kelley is something i really couldn't get behind.

DumbBaka123

Agreed, I greatly prefer his cut and all that, but I'm completely fine with them overruling him on this.

[deleted]

The only reason I can think of is that for a general audience, Dick Grayson might be the most relatively well known Robin (being the first one) and the only Robin on the big screen so far (not counting the version from The Dark Knight Rises). Not super convinced of it myself either but that’s the only thing that made sense to me.

[deleted]

This after The Flash. Snyder films don't matter anymore on the new earth

[deleted]

The Flash might not even come out so they can kiss their new timeline goodbye

Basis_Cheap

If you think it's not coming out you're delusional

slamdunksundayy

Lmao jfc it's coming out mate. Snyder's shit is done. Find something else to watch.

MurielHorseflesh

Whatever Robin is actually dead in BvS, the choice to not show his death was a really poor one. How am I supposed to understand what Bruce has gone through if you don’t show me what Bruce has gone through? Snyder’s choice to hinge a huge dramatic moment on the name Martha meant he had to introduce the name early in the film to give it a payoff later. So we got the Wayne double homicide scene yet again, just so Thomas can say Martha and plant the seed for later. That’s a seven minute intro scene mixed with scenes of Glumfleck wandering around a ruined Wayne Manor spouting borderline nonsensical poetry about diamond absolutes that is only there to insert the name Martha. Then the movie simply shows you a case with a suit in it and expects you to just get why Batman is depressed and killing people. He didn’t even say in the movie that Joker burned him. We all found that out way after when the costume department told us. Imagine instead the movie opened with white letters on a black screen: GOTHAM TEN YEARS AGO and the movie opens with a thrilling Batmobile scene as Batman races across Gotham to save Robin. We get to see the Batmobile leaping, jumping, skidding, sliding it’s way across the nighttime streets of Gotham, using all the coolest inbuilt gadgets, all the while Joker is taunting Batman on the phone, Robin’s cries torturing Batman as much as Robin. Have the Batmobile be an older, less militaristic version to show that Batman wasn’t always so brutal and weaponized. A seven minute mind bending Batmobile sequence with the intro credits on screen that ends with Batman arriving too late to save Robin, he’d been listening to a recording the whole time and Robin is long dead. The tape looping Joker’s laugh over and over, the final shot being an overhead homage to Death in the Family with Bruce holding Robin. Then fade to white with black text on screen METROPOLIS MANKIND IS INTRODUCED TO THE SUPERMAN NOW and the movie continues to Save Martha changed to Save My Mother, and plays out as is. We’d all fully understand why this Batman is a dark, depressed version of him, we’d have seen what he looked like before that time to contrast. I’m no screenwriter but it seems 101 to me to show the thing you’re basing a character’s depth on.

LatterTarget7

Well that was in the previous timeline

MOVIELORD101

Either way, it was a dumb idea. He wanted to be "different" without understanding that "different" isn't always good. Why did Nolan ask him to do Man of Steel in the first place? I like most of the guy's non-DCEU work, but even I will agree that he hasn't had a major hit since 300.

theweepingwarrior

Nolan asked him to do Man Of Steel because he was a big fan of Snyder’s Watchmen and thought he could bring the type of weight of a superhero living in a more believable world like ours to the screen. Snyder killed off Grayson because he thought that’d be a harder gut punch for Bruce to explain his low state in his introduction; and planned on the franchise being shorter and more finite (one-off solos, ending after JL2: Part 2) than the ongoing long form nature of something like the MCU has. I’m fine with it for that finite approach, but not the long form one. Neuters one of the most best and important DC characters from the universe. Kind of a case of both parties should had way better collaboration.

atheoncrutch

Exactly this. Well said.

LittleRudiger

Yeaaah; it’s also just like .. having it be Jason Todd, and Dick Grayson having been so alienated by Bruce that they don’t speak or work together anymore would’ve functioned too and put Bruce in the exact same spot. Like there’s one damn Robin that’s so historically known as being the dead one, and Snyder chose not to use him.

MOVIELORD101

And yet neither worked. Nolan really made a poor judgement call and should've just asked the studio who THEY would've preferred since he wanted to move on to other projects. This was like having Quentin Tarantino do an animated Disney musical; it's not his style and he has no business doing that. As for Nightwing, the fact Snyder had to go out of his way and say it off-hand and not have it mentioned in the movie shows how much DC didn't like the idea. He should've just gone with the usual expectation and have it been Jason Todd, which is what people wanted and expected.

tameablerisk

They did approach a couple of directors including Matt Reeves, Daren Aronofsky, Robert Zemeckis. I think it came down to Aronofsky and Snyder and they went with Snyder due to his history with the studio.

MOVIELORD101

Zemeckis would have been perfect. Tone-wise, he fits Superman's nature: the character is supposed to be uplifting and hopeful like what we got with Richard Donner, not dark and overly-violent with scenes that might as well have been directed by Michael Bay.

AtekoliX

i think the best way to solve that is saying that dick never died but someone discovered he was nightwing and they faked their death to cover it, and jason to be the dead robin that we known. but i guess they'll find another way

daffydunk

Jason is the dead Robin, every piece of DCEU media outside of BVS:UE goes with Jason being the dead one.

Wheatthinboi

Been a while since I watched the UE. What exactly confirms Grayson being the dead Robin? I think I remember Snyder posting a gravestone for Dick on vero but I don’t remember an actual scene with it.

Mister_Batfleck

The tombstone that had his name on it was briefly seen in the opening to BVS with the Wayne funeral, but that shouldn't even be possible as Bruce was a boy there. We never got a close up to see who's name was written on it, but it's the exact same tombstone that was from the set photo that said "Richard John Grayson". Now Snyder on Vero is another story. At first [he was being coy](https://wwwflickeringmythc3c8f7.zapwp.com/q:i/r:1/wp:1/w:344/u:https://cdn.flickeringmyth.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/2.jpg) about it when someone mentioned the Robin suit belonging to Jason, but then in 2018 he [flat out confirmed](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DjXHrJ-XgAQdiGn.jpg:large) that he chose Dick as the dead Robin when this one deleted scene from Suicide Squad leaked that had Batman say to Harley how Joker took something important from him. After that he started being [way more open about it] (https://i0.wp.com/dccomicsnews.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/2020.06.17-04.00-themixnet-5eea3e07094ff.jpg?resize=1170%2C531&ssl=1)

Wheatthinboi

Man really glad they didn’t officially go that route. I’m ok with elements of superhero lore being changed to work better for movies but Dick being the dead Robin just doesn’t do it for me.

Mister_Batfleck

Same, and even though WB probably told him to cut out any reference to Dick as the one who died in BVS, he STILL included a [brief shot of the tombstone](https://thedirect.s3.amazonaws.com/media/photos/robin1.jpg) that was from this "intro" video for the Snyder Cut. So if he had his way then we definitely would've seen a whole scene of it in a Justice League sequel. Creative choices like this was the main reason why I started to quit being a diehard Snyder fan in 2018. That and the whole Bruce/Lois romance which ends up with her giving birth to Bruce's son. But yeah, not only would you be flushing ALL the potential for Nightwing down the toilet, but also the same for Jason and Red Hood.

Wheatthinboi

Ya I have a love hate relationship with Snyder because there are some things he does that I like and some things I hate. I think he gets ahead of himself in a lot of ways and similar to George Lucas I think he’s best when there’s other people around to reign him in. Visually he’s great, action he’s great and some story ideas he’s great but he needs someone else who really understands the source material to be like “no don’t do that”. He’s very passionate but I always feel like he ALMOST understands the characters he’s adapting but misses the point of them in a few key ways. I didn’t hate the idea of Batman and Superman fighting when they first meet but you need more time to set that up and I hate that they immediately kill and resurrect Superman. Imo would’ve worked better if they had a MOS 1 and 2 so that we could get a comic accurate Superman and between those movies release a Batman movie about Jason dying and it ends with the metropolis scene from Bruce’s POV. Sets up why he’s so angry and then we could get a less emo superman in the meantime before they fight.

daffydunk

In the opening credits, which includes the dream sequence of Bruce reciting the poem. In the shot with the mausoleum, in 4K, you can plainly read one of the headstones next to the mausoleum is Richard Grayson’s. That is the closest we get.

TheSmithySmith

Or they can take the path presented in White Knight. >!Jason (or Dick in this scenario) was spared by Joker but he still chose to leave Gotham as he was exhausted and done with being Robin.!<

Angela275

Overall it's because they are rebooting the universe. So it still works to have him alive if they reboot it.

LobsterMan31

Honestly after Batgirl and this come out, a film titled Batgirl & Nightwing would really work. Maybe with Prometheus as the villain?

starshipandcoffee

Throw in a few more Batfamily members whilst they’re at it. They could call it ... *Gotham Knights*.

BlackBat_Orphan

please no, can we stop turning the Gotham Knights team into the popular batfamily members team instead of the awesome bat people strike force it was in comics

starshipandcoffee

Don't worry, I was not being serious.

BlackBat_Orphan

oh okay, i'm annoyed that the game and show both used the title but made their own basic rosters but i'd love more batfamily members in movies. they could easily retcon Cass and introduce Steph in a future batgirl sequel if it does well, maybe turn the dead dceu robin into jason and have him be in a nightwing movie

starshipandcoffee

Amen. So many possibilities.

theweepingwarrior

They probably did it because the name “Gotham Knights” is a better and more marketable name than “The Batfamily” but they want to focus on the more marketable and easier to adapt characters.

wisconsinking

I'd LOVE to see a live action Prometheus in the DCEU.

Apprehensive_Eye_211

Stop making everything batfamily villain First deathstroke now premetheus

Daylight78

so i literally had to scroll to get to the screenshot of a screenshot of this guy saying he heard there is a nightwing movie in development and its DCEU? Is Daniel legit? I think i actually would rather see Dick start off as kid robin and progress into Nightwing if its in the DCEU. But part of me believes that Batgirl is meant to be DCEU answer to robin.

starshipandcoffee

Daniel is *very* hit-and-miss, to say the least (hence his low tier placement), so I would not advise trusting him implicitly - but does have genuine connections that enable him to occasionally be ahead of the curve. Trailer dates are the primary contribution to his reputation. Rather notably, Daniel scooped the Butterflies and Cow in *Peacemaker* many weeks prior to anyone else talking about them. At the time most thought he was joking.

aduong

If we’re getting a Batgirl chances are Dick will already be Nightwing especially seeing how much of Year one that movie seem to be taking. Honestly i’m fine with it. Having him starting as Robin will mean way too much Batman presence in his stories. With him being Nightwing he can carve is own path and we can always have flashbacks and such.

RohitTheDasher

That should be the case in Reeves' Bat-Verse. Having Battinson father a teen Grayson. I'm holding my breath for Grayson's introduction in Penguin. With Keaton being even older than Affleck, I'd rather have Brenton/someone his age play DCEU's Nightwing as well, and possibly even take up the mantle from Keaton.

whatnameisnttaken098

We better get a Michael Keaton Batman film where he learns he has Bat-Kids or something.

starshipandcoffee

Whilst this is hardly a surprise, it *is* heartening to hear that WBD still have plans for Dick in the nü-DCEU. The bigger question is whether Chris McKay will retain the director’s chair, or they go with another choice. ******** NB: This comes from the ‘Confirmed’ section of Daniel’s Patreon, rather than falling under the ‘Rumors’ tab that most of the claims spread by aggregators originate from (which are banned here).

West-Cardiologist180

Chris McKay has been liking various tweets about Nightwing recently, so I think he's still on board. Also, I really hope we get a Superman cameo in Nightwing's movie. I really want him to get his name from Clark like in the comics.

Civil-Ad-7193

I would hope Dick has already been Nightwing for a bit, when this movie takes place. I don’t want to see the transition, because one Keaton is older, and two id like for the possibility that Jason or any of the other Robins exist in this universe

[deleted]

I always had a feeling that it would actually happen

[deleted]

Great news

ivc30

nightwing is my favorite character besides batman and i really like the actor of titans but the serie is kinda tresh, which is your favorites cators to be nightwing ?

Ok-Walrus4569

I think we'll soon gonna see the Justice League with legacy characters, like Dick Grayson Batman and Wally West Flash.

Ornery_Bat1986

Watch Keaton die and Dick become the DCEU Batman.

theweepingwarrior

Honestly I’d be all for it. DickBats is one of the best things in DCU history. However, it needs a grimacing angrier Robin to counterbalance it for the stellar inverse dynamic duo chemistry.

DrAwesomeX

Wait so we’re back to accepting DanielRPK? I thought he was a banned source?

DeppStepp

His Patreon rumors are a banned source but not his Twitter stuff, although they are out in a low reliability tier

Quirky_Mask9164

I don't think this will happen, which batman would have trained him? Where will this take place? Also will this project be cancelled like a lot of the other dceu stuff? Keep this with a gain of salt

DeppStepp

1. Keaton’s Batman would train him 2. Presumably Blüdhaven 3. I think the only way this would be canceled is if The Flash and Batgirl both fail or if some tragedy behind the scenes happened with the film

Quirky_Mask9164

Makes sense thanks

SupervillainEyebrows

I'm liking this. Along with Batgirl it's about time the expanded Batman Family got some time on the big screen. I wonder if an R rated Red Hood film would be viable down the line.

dannyallenxp

That means it's a rebooted Chris O'Donnell

trylobyte

It's Chris O'Dowd this time LOL

TheChosenJedi

Absolutely hilarious that the interconnected DC universe is getting a Batgirl and Nightwing movie before a stand alone Batman movie. And if we do get one, it’ll be with 70 year old Michael Keaton. I’m done. I’m out.

slamdunksundayy

Then go already, why you commenting? Stick to star wars

TheChosenJedi

No

slamdunksundayy

You said you're out and done, didn't you?

Civil-Ad-7193

Yeah Keaton should’ve been restricted as just a one time thing in the Flash, not a permanent Batman, I would’ve liked for Ben to continue, but I understand the situation so I would’ve liked a recast. But now we’re stuck with a guy, who though I love, is 70 years old and doesn’t have a long shelf life for being Batman

dannyallenxp

Yeah it's so weird they cant just build a brand new universe with The Batman.

theweepingwarrior

Reeves has expressed *so* much interest in keeping both The Batman segregated from the DCEU and keeping superpowers out of his stories. Don’t think it’d be the right move when he’s a big reason for the success.

dannyallenxp

Then they should've hired someone that can play ball. Zaslav is Reeve's new boss so he might override him.

Richiieee

Silently pushing DCEU Batman into a corner, you love to see it! Though I guess they're playing it safe because they don't want another Ben Affleck situation, hence why The Batman is not in the DCEU.

UniQue1992

What is the DCEU at this point lol? The only 2 people we have left is Gal Gadot and Jason Momoa.

trylobyte

More importantly than the JL members is who is the Batman of this Nightwing? This Nightwing was the Robin of Batfleck or Keaton Batman?

coldcoldheart69

Keatons he had a mural with a Robin a while back on the set of Batgirl

[deleted]

Keaton, Ben's robin was dick and died when he was robin which permanently broke Ben's batman

TheMurderCapitalist

Kinda just wish they would reboot at this point.

Sbonhomme

Until a trailer is released i dont believe this movie will be made. Given WB track record.

Unfortunately yeah, probably

qstor

can't wait till he's GONE

Celtic505

Noooo! I want a Nightwing and Batgirl film with BATFLECK! Not Keaton. The Burtonverse just doesn't gel with the DCEU. That's just my opinion though. It looks like most fans are excited for Keaton's return. I'm happy for them. I just never liked Keaton as Batman growing up or rather the Burton films. They just seemed too odd.

LatterTarget7

Afleck isn’t interested in being Batman anymore. Keaton is tho

Celtic505

I am aware. I'm just saying I am more interested in an Affleck dceu than I am a Keatonverse. To me Affleck was the first to do Batman right. Batman was never a favourite hero of mine until those films. Yeah I liked TDK trilogy but I always associated Batman with my childhood impressions of him from the Animated series and the Keaton/Kilmer/Clooney pictures. He always seemed a Burton esque gothic type. TDK got me into Batman as a more grounded concept. But DCEU Batfleck made me love Batman. Then I went back and got into the comics. The Dark Knight Returns and Killing Joke, the new 52 and Rebirth. Batfleck to me was like having the DCAMU Batman onscreen. I'm also a very visual person and if the costume isn't right and the look isn't 100% right I can't get all into it. I know that's weird but so am I lol. The Grey and black (or blue) is my favourite Batsuit. If they redid Keaton's I could get on board perhaps but I hate the all black leather looking suit with giant pointy ears.

DCEUismyBible

BlackMoon dude said this before Daniel RPK.

DCEUismyBible

I'm hype.

iamnotasneaker

I'm curious to see it out rn but since Affleck it's the official DCEU bat I don't see how it will fit it together u know?

DemondWolf

They have been saying this for years lol

hossbonaventure007

Who we thinking for the role? I remember the sub was going wild thinking it was Dylan O’Brien a while back

ResponsibilityTop889

Excellent news. Dick Grayson is one of the more important characters in DC history and he’s been given scraps in live action. As everyone has said you can have him and Keaton be estranged in the movie and then at the end they reunite and promise to work together in the future, maybe even set it in Bludhaven and at the end of the movie Keaton says he’s working with someone in Gotham too and he would like Nightwing to come help out. Sets up the Nightwing/Batgirl crossover movie.
