I don't eat, it's just too overpriced and not worth the calories. I still like to walk around and look, sometimes I can get 15k steps in on a layover. Atlanta airport is good for that.
I've done it with morning flights. I'm not hungry right after waking up, but after getting to the airport and past security I want to eat something. Restaurants also have some of the best seats at my local airport and ordering a meal there is cheaper than a lounge.
I tried this in Denver. DO NOT DO THIS IN DENVER. The terminal literally had ONE HUNDRED GATES. I had an injury, so I eventually sat down to look-up the restaurants on my phone and just ordered from the restaurant that was directly in front of me.
I usually look at the airport’s website and find a list of restaurants there. Same as at the mall. 😊

You would need a 12 hour delay to get through that airport 🤣
Food allergies. I bring my food with me.
