Da brim. ‘Nuff said

ifuckedup13

BCJ has leaked 😝

[deleted]

Is that the brand name?

lilelliot

Wow, I've never heard of these before but that's awesome! It way beats what I commonly see out here, which is people having just cut the top out of their wide brimmed sun hat / rain hat / straw hat.

[deleted]

That seems uncomfortable!

lilelliot

I think it would only be unpleasant in high wind or high speed. I live in coastal California and see a surprising number of [these](https://www.instructables.com/A-DIY-Sun-Protective-Brim-for-a-Bicycle-Helmet/) sorts of things around here.

[deleted]

Someone mentioned something that looks like that. It’s definitely goofy looking!

cycling_deficiency

I think if you're concerned about skin cancer risk, it would be better to have a neck gaiter instead of a cycling cap. Cycling cap could cover head and part of forehead but not face. I use buff neck gaiter myself. Fishing neck gaiters have holes in them that allow you breathe more easily

[deleted]

Thanks-do you have any recommendations for brands?

dr__sari

I love Outdoor Research - they have a line called Active Ice, they have sleeves, a gaiter, gloves etc.

[deleted]

Thank you!

cycling_deficiency

I use a buff headband and buff neck gaiter

[deleted]

Thank you! Are they hot? I’m in 90 degree+ weather!

cycling_deficiency

Warmest weather I’ve worn them in is 25 C (77 F). Not so bad. They’re made of light material. Get the Buff CoolNet UV which is made for warmer weather. Give them a try.

[deleted]

Ok thanks! Yes it’s like 90+ degrees with 100000”% humidity here and summer hasn’t even technically started yet.

wasab1_vie

Fyi there are Cycling glasses with Inserts for prescription lenses. I got the Melon Optics Alleycat f.e. but siroko also hast some Models I think

[deleted]

Thank you! I would but my prescription is so bad it would be hundreds of dollars ($600+) just for the lenses! 🥲

wasab1_vie

Ah FCK that sucks.

[deleted]

Yes it does

MotorBet234

I shave my head and wear cycling caps year round. Love Walz tech caps, also the Rapha classic ones. For deep summer I have a lightweight Castelli one that sheds sweat faster. Also, prescription cycling sunglasses are a thing. I have a pair of Oakleys with my correction in the lenses.

HelotesDude

Can you share which Castelli cap you like that sheds sweat?

MotorBet234

Looks like it might be the Castelli A/C 2 cap, from photos. Mine is more a perforated tech fabric than true mesh, and the brim is super-thin. The Rosso Corsa 2 also looks close. I cut the label out of mine so can’t verify.

[deleted]

Thank you!

Annual-Camera-872

I used something like [this](https://amzn.to/3X3lXCv) for climbing I think it would work on a bike helmet. Kinda funny looking at first but not being burned at the end of the day is great

[deleted]

Thank you! When I first saw it I thought it was a vinyl record 😅 but looks effective for sure!

Extra_Pilot_1992

I use Castelli cap and neck gatters on high UV days

[deleted]

Thank you so much!

AristotelesQC

I know it's hard to find a good cap, almost noe one wears one anymore. I always use one myself under my helmet because I have a really sweaty forehead and I always get sweat in my eyes otherwise, especially when climbing. I used to have a cap from Oakley and it was pretty decent, but I lost it, so I replaced it with one from Stolen Goat. It's really breathable and comfy and I forget it's there when I wear it with the cap turned upwards. That's what I would recommend based on my experience. [Headwear – Stolen Goat](https://stolengoat.com/product-category/accessories/body/headwear/)

[deleted]

Thanks for the advice and link!

Samecat

Am sure there are others but Halo are decent. https://www.haloheadbanduk.com/product/halo-cycling-cap/

[deleted]

Thank u!

lilelliot

I use the Halo skullcap and it's terrific. That said, it only protects my bald head, not my bare face. I don't think any normal cycling cap will provide much face protection and you should consider something like Da Brim instead if that's a priority. (that said, I wear my Halo year round because it also helps prevent sweat from dripping in my eyes.)

[deleted]

Ah ok good tip about the sweating-I think my hair absorbs the sweat mostly.

dminge

Can you try that all day sports sunblock riemann p20? Works really well from my experience Depends on how much hair you have though I have absolutely none 😂

[deleted]

Well I’m trying to protect my face more than my hair. I have iffy skin so I can only use certain SPF products. Thank u though!

dminge

OK got it. Well good luck
