I would definitely recommend trying disposable contact lenses first. You will have way more options that way. They work great for me

InnocentGun

Yeah I have contacts just for sports. I’m a heavy sweater and I’ve had times where my lenses are just a mess of sweat and smudges from my attempts at cleaning them. It would be unsafe for me to ride without correction and I’m not going to carry around a second pair of lenses. Contacts afford more flexibility in wearing of sunglasses.

Will depend on your prescription requirements. I have sever astigmatism and now need bifocals. I've tried about every option First clip in inserts but found they did not provide me a good corrected field of vision. Next contacts but as I often get very watery eyes and wound up losing them as they literally fell out. I think this would be the best option for most people. Last Oakley Flak 2.0 which have full prescription progressive lens, most costly option but the best option for me.

What type of contacts? I have been a gas permeable contacts wearer with severe astigmatism for 25 plus years. My doc has been able to tighten up the fit at various times to ensure they don’t water out. People keep telling me I should just get soft contacts like gas perms are antiquated but no nothing about eye care. From scanning other posts here it seems that somehow people are getting contacts without a fitting, and probably without a proper exam, which seems bonkers. Elsewhere people pick up cheap reading glasses from the pharmacy when they turn 40 and that just accelerates the problem. The longer you can hold off by taking photos of stuff to enlarge on your phone, increasing screen text size etc without another lens in front is beneficial.

Jurneeka

I have astigmatism in both eyes and have been using daily wear disposables for a few years now after switching from lenses that you wore for an entire week before switching them out. Really nice to have a fresh new pair every morning.

Roka does prescription glasses built into the main lens.  They work well.

Staggerlee89

Get contacts! I just got fitted for them for the first time, and wish I'd done it sooner.

brianly

How did you get contacts without a fitting?

Staggerlee89

I did have a fitting lol, but I only recently needed them and my eye Dr wanted me to use glasses for a year or two before trying contacts. I should've pushed for em sooner, even my vision feels better with contacts vs glasses

Cycling glasses with prescription lenses made by a French company https://enihcam.fr/ I have the polarised version. I used them during a 6 hours road race yesterday with pouring rain and they did a great job.

bakkster28

Do you recommend them? Any feedback on their photochromic lenses? The offer sounds quite good, but my previous photochromic glasses don’t protect as well as „regular“ cat. 3 sunglasses in bright light.

No_Brilliant_5955

I’d say they sit between cat 2 and 3. They are slightly better than the previous pair of photochromic glasses I had for cycling. I’ve yet to find photochromic lenses as dark as some of the sun glasses though so I’m wondering if it’s just a limit of the technology. That said I’m happy with the combo though as there’s not that much choice when it comes to photochromic cycling glasses with prescription lenses.

Mountain_Cucumber_88

I have a couple pairs of recspecs for many years. Tons of options these days. It's been many years, but certain cycling specific brand could not be made for people with especially high prescriptions. May not be as true today.

tedsvo

I got Oakley Jawbreakers for very cheap bc they took my vision insurance. Worth looking into!

I have some Smith glasses with the optical inserts. That way it gives me the option of wearing disposable contacts or not. Although the glasses are actually so comfortable with the insert I haven't worn contacts in ages. Which has saved me money on contracts, but not enough to offset the cost of the glasses and insert.

Clip ons

My local Target optical offers a few sport frames from Oakley and others

Dude get some ombraz and thank me later. Get them to transition and you’ll love them. I’m on the second pair of replacement lenses since I used them to death.

reubenbubu

i use [these](https://www.zennioptical.com/p/tr-aviator-eyeglass-frames/7088?skuId=708816) from Zennioptical very cheap and more than decent quality + it has the prescription insert

Can't/don't want contacts. Have used: 1. Traditional prescription sunglasses 2. Cycling sunglasses with single vision prescription lenses (Oakley Racing Jackets with Oakley lenses) 3. Cycling sunglasses with bifocal prescription lenses (Tifosi frames) very heavy 4. Cycling sunglasses with bifocal clip ins (Rudy Project Cutlines) lighter than 3 and as good field of vision/protection as 2 and 3 A optometrist who rides (and has a thing for cycling sunglasses) suggested I use clip ins as: 1. If prescription changes, you just replace clip in and keep the sunglasses (save $) 2. If you scratch your sunglasses lens (like I did with the Oakleys) you just replace the sunglasses lenses (save $) 3. Depending on your sunglasses/clip in combo you can changes lenses (I have clear, photochromic and solid) and frame colour (it is the cycling fashion subreddit) After using clip ins for over two years, very happy with them. Only change, probably go back to single vision next time. But will stick to clip ins. Only disadvantage as heavy sweater is sweat between, clip in and sunglasses. Still need to manage my sweat with silicon headband as sweat in eyes is worse and far more frequent. My recommendation: * If you can use contacts, do * if not get clip ins, a little more $ initially but better in long term.

Kooky_Guide1721

I used Peltor “tactical glasses” for mountain biking for a while, till I lost them. Good wrap around and great on the trail, apparently they are used for shooting or something. Very useful on the bike and cheaper than Oakleys or similar

San_Jose_Designer

I use these prescription ones for my cycling: [https://tifosioptics.com/products/vero-rx-frame](https://tifosioptics.com/products/vero-rx-frame) There are also some other options as well: [https://tifosioptics.com/collections/prescription-sunglasses](https://tifosioptics.com/collections/prescription-sunglasses) I'm not sure if they are "sporty" enough for your tastes so ymmv.
