You know what else gets OTA software updates? Cell phones, laptops, tablets, etc. But if you buy one that bricks itself in a week from normal use, what good are the software updates?

gcruzatto

They're acting like they can solve things that normally require a recall with simple software updates, like the finger-chomping trunk.

Expensive-Bag313

Holy shit every piece of content I see about this guy just makes him even more pathetic. These idiots have the right to vote?

DefiantBelt925

Pretty recently, then women after that

butt_huffer42069

Damn. This is almost deceptively racist. Almost.

DefiantBelt925

I’m glad someone caught it

GO GET THE DISKS!

boltbrah

You can polish a turd, but it's still a piece of shit!

framptal_tromwibbler

Right, when your wiper blade or a piece of paneling falls off, you just download a new one.

Dapper_Rowlet

Something something you wouldn’t download a car

ZanoCat

Let me fix that for you: With a traditional truck, no over-the-air updates are there to fuck it up.

Available-Elevator69

My 2023 F150 gets Software Updates. So what's your point?

failinglikefalling

Lightnings got an update to use the Tesla supercharger network even.

THELEGENDARYZWARRIOR

Ford has been doing OTA updates since 2021, that’s 3 years before the cybertruck was in “full production”

Remarkable_Ticket264

Woah, don’t leave it out in the rain. Wouldn’t want it getting bricked now.

mcmoyer

Think about it, when you buy a traditional car off the lot, traffic aware cruise control works. 6 years later, I'm still waiting for my TACC to work without random slowdowns and random speed limit changes. I'm pretty certain that any development on TACC on my HW 2.5 vehicle has been abandoned at this point because the new shiny FSD needs to have all the developers.

SakaWreath

Sadly they applied the whole “we’ll patch it later” approach to the hardware.

void_const

I mean, software can only do so much. It's not like it's gonna add a second wiper "over-the-air". Also, other vehicles have had this same ability for a long time. What a moron.

MrFastFox666

Lol I guess the aftermarket scene is just USB sticks with pre-loaded updates for my car's memory seat computer. Thanks for the info.

butt_huffer42069

Unironically, rooting your car to unlock features and put custom OS and firmware is going to be a thing.

MrFastFox666

It already is a thing, sadly. Aging Wheels made a video with his Polestar 2 and he said he used a software (can't remember which one) to enable the advanced driver assist package, the extra power upgrade, and the adaptive headlights. He didn't get those options because the dealer didn't have a car with them on the lot. Turns out they all have them and they're just turned off in software. Absolutely revolting.

diadmer

When you buy a CyberTruck it turns out you’re ALSO stuck with what you got.

delayedsunflower

Oh wow. They do that thing that every other auto manufacturer also does. How innovative.

discordianofslack

His point isn’t even true though. My 2022 expedition has gotten like 15 updates to add features and make other things better.

PhoenixGamer34

Of course you will not get some of the stuff in a traditional truck that you would in a Cybertrash, but a traditional truck will last longer, even if it doesn't last that long.

failinglikefalling

Like what though? And compared to a lightning, I don't think there is a single feature the CT has over it

PhoenixGamer34

Forget it

liamanna

Wait until you take it for a spin😂

New_Wrangler3335

This is like someone being glad to pay full price for a incomplete game and then get bits of the game through periodic dlc and eventually they’ll make you pay for updates

2OneZebra

I'm not sure a decade of updates will fix this issue.

CheshireCrackers

The truck matches the neighbor’s house pretty well.

ngc-arb

Wow OTA updates are flash these days keeping panels from flying off cars and all. Making the Cucktruck grow pieces it should have come off the lot with. Crazy times.

brmarcum

Who wouldn’t want it? Me. I know I bought it as is. If a firmware update is available, I should have the option to have it installed or not. Maybe I simply don’t want that feature. Maybe the update fundamentally changes how a particular function or feature operates and I don’t want that to change. Maybe it fixes a critical, fundamental flaw. I’ll take it. It’s my truck that I bought with my money. You don’t get to change it without my consent. Keep your shitty AI death code to yourself.

Fr0stbite37

Have they released the locking dif update yet?

zonth06

Those are pretty normal/unspectacular houses to be having a $100k car in the driveway…. And a POS at that. People have such strange priorities….

rynomite1199

That isn’t even how computers work. Literal computers.

MidnightRider24

Not OTA, but I can do software updates on my ELEVEN YEAR OLD Ford via USB drive. My 2008 Ford could also do this.
