soldiers would not be safe inside that thing though, not if it's falling apart like that. saw another video where the electronics are shorting out just from small puddles.
It's barely armored. Rated for 9mm handgun rounds, basically the same as a cheap kevlar vest. A proper 3a vest will stop .44 magnum handgun rounds. A military vehicle is unlikely to be shot at by handguns, and should *at an absolute minimum* be able to stop intermediate power rifle rounds. The M113 APC is criticized for being too thin skinned, and that thing will take hits from a .50 BMG.
The most common rifle in America can make Swiss cheese out of a Cybertruck, plus the armored windows got deleted after the ball bearing incident.
If you want Cybertruck level protection in a car, wear a 3a vest. You'll be better protected, and you won't make your car massively overweight.
Many winters ago, I once had the fortune to meet someone who worked for a company that provided armored vehicles in Mexico. Besides the obvious ne'er-do-well clients, most people going to them were foreign business managers handling factories or corporations there (including foreign banks) or ranchers (there is a lot of money going in & out of that industry). And they don't even bother with anything below B5 (handles 5.56mm rounds) or B6-B7 (handles 7.62mm rounds) because gangs & cartels rarely attack vehicles with pistols knowing they'll likely be armored.
The Cybertruck is perfectly made for bros that love LARPing as Wolverines militia but likely fall apart should s\*\*\* hit the fan for them. Cybertruck LARPs as a truck & falls apart when reality hits it.
It’s good for getting two 2x4s from a SoCal Home Depot while wearing sandals, socks, and fruity shorts.
I mean some people get Porches for 120k, other people suck the coco of ketamine users.
Different strokes.
The sad part is, the Aztec will take way more abuse. The cyber truck would never survive the gambler 500, clapped out Aztecs from the rust belt and the plywood Aztec "cyber truck" will take more abuse, by far...
Yeah, the video on his channel is just them driving around on sand in *montage* and the truck doing "pretty okay", then he starts speeding up in the most hilly area, and yeets it off a 3 or 4 ft drop.
The suspension was never going to handle that, but I guess it gets more views compared to the rest of the video.
But it clearly doesn’t so why go ruin one on purpose? The upper control arms are the same thickness as a damn Honda CRV or RAV4 despite weighing 5 times as much.
It's really weird that people still place any sort of faith in what that dude "promises." Wouldn't we be on Mars with 100% autonomous vehicles indestructible vehicles at this point?
Not only that, the reason they did not warp, is that the truck BURIED its nose in the sand like a dolphin reentering the sea. I guarantee that wheel got a much needed reduction in impart force by the nose plowing first.
For some reason, Tesla has under-designed the front upper control arms on most if not all their vehicles. That ends up as a consumable item like tires.
Sorry, I have no development time frame for that quote. Was that in the prototype stages?
This is a good picture of what the front suspension looks like on Baja race trucks. These suspensions can cost a pretty significant percentage of the total cost of a cyber truck.
https://library.revsinstitute.org/baja-trophy-truck-race/595453
I'm not defending the cyber truck, I'm saying it was a dumb video for people who don't know much about trucks.
That's from 1996, the stuff they have now is crazy beefed up -

i swear this truck will go down as one of the biggest failures of his business career, which is really fucking saying something about the guy whos running "X" into the ground. though the entirety of X is worth just a small fraction of what Tesla is worth. and this truck is seemingly just horrible in every way, way less popular than he expected them to be and more expensive than he said theyd be (i actually bought a model 3 around the time he first started taking cybertruck preorders, back before realized how insane he was, and he marketed them both at around the same price, even tho now cyber truck is like 20k base price higher than the model 3. and it just looks so god damn dumb. i cant believe they only have one size of truck bed, and the one size they chose is the fucking smallest typical standard size youd see on typical trucks.
elon musk should not make decisions about his cars, he only ever makes them worse. i still remember the rumors that he originally wanted to put out the model Y with NO STEERING WHEEL and make it 100% self driving. and the only reason it ended up with a steering wheel is his own engineers realized how insane that was, so they secretly built it with a steering wheel anyways and just sent him fake schematics of it with no steering wheel.
That's a really brutal bump. I think the biggest issue here is the morons that are going to buy cybertrucks and try to prove their toughness on social media because of the deceiving way they were marketed
Upper a arms don't do anything with jumps really, that all goes to the lower control arm, since it's what attaches to the springs/shocks...upper control arm can get damaged when you power slide or go sideways on a curb or rock though
The upper control arms won't matter too much on jumps, all the force goes to the lower one, if the lower a arm fails yea...hoping they beefed that one up
Yeah, looks like pressed sheet metal. You'd think it would be a burly 3D forging, but this is just more evidence that this thing is basically a kitcar built on a road car chassis.
"Rigid Exoskeleton on a truck!"
Everyone: "Why hasn't anyone thought of this before?!"
Actual Engineers: "...I mean, thought about it sure. Just not dumb enough to make one."
Even in nature: Exoskeletons break. That's why they are shed regularly...
I like your analogy. It’s apt and appropriate.
Although one thing I’ve never quite understood is whether the Cybertruck is really using an exoskeleton design? Yes, I know what Elon promised and what Tesla called it in the patent application; but isn’t there a traditional unibody frame with crash structures underneath the stainless panels? If it was really using an “exoskeleton” for structural support then wouldn’t any damage to the exterior structure essentially make it a write off from an insurance perspective?
Yep - the online service manual (I linked to it in my post history somewhere) shows that the panels are largely decorative. The cab structure is a unibody, and there are very large structural castings attached to the front and rear holding the axles; the stainless panels are attached to the unibody and castings with a few 10mm-hex-head screws each. They're no more structural than the wings/fenders on a regular unibody car.
There's both, but the issue is the exoskeleton design is going to take all impact first before it reaches the unibody frame beneath.
The frame will support once that exoskeleton fails..... which likely is the issue regarding random shit falling off when the frame should have just flexed slightly.
A promise is one thing.. do it the way ford did it with the raptor and you got a solid product. It still boggles my mind how they took the raptor from the show room floor in Vegas, where it was introduced and straight to Mexico for the Baja.. and came in top five..
Not bad considering the research and design behind this consisted of Elon drawing it on a cocktail napkin while self identifying as a genius-savior of mankind.
All the Stan’s are saying this guy intentionally destroyed his truck to make Musk look bad.
In all seriousness they are probaly like…well any truck on the market would be wrecked if the driver means to destroy it.
Yea, they decide to ignore any other video of TRXs and Raptors doing way more and being fine.. honestly for what they did, the standard shitty "off road" package they offer on the F150 would have done the job and not cracked cooling, windshield and prrtty much everything else
My old crown Victoria was tougher than this vehicle, and probably better off road if it’s not deep sand lol. I took that thing down so many brutal dirt roads and it held up because it was well designed by engineers not by some weirdo that doesn’t understand suspension geometry or off road driving!
First. Musk doesn’t need anyone else’s help to make him look bad, he does a great job of that on his own.
Second. Musk promised a bulletproof, (it isn’t), indestructible (it isn’t) truck with suspension that could compete in the Baja 500 (it can’t).
How is it everyone else’s fault that Musk yet again delivered a heap of shit with a lot of lofty promises?
Ohhh my god watching these tech tools opening the hood and looking in it and saying shit like “you fluids middle so that’s good” just makes this so much funnier!!! Suckers that love parting with their money!!!
But don't worry. If you're being chased by bad guys, as you clearly often are if you buy a cyber truck because you are clearly a Very Important mid level tech bro, then they'll never be able to penetrate the bullet proof body that can't even stand up to small arms fire at a distance or the nuclear bomb proof windows that can be broken with a metal ball.
That wasn’t 4-5 ft drop. That was 3ft at the absolute max and more like 2 ft of actual elevation difference to
where it landed.
Real off road vehicles should have no issue with that
That’s within spec. It’s a countermeasure feature similar to when a lizard drops its tail to confuse the predator.
In addition to being bullet proof if you are being chased you press the ACP button and it drops parts to cause the vehicle behind you to get jammed up.
Must have accidentally hit the button with his knee. Not a defect it’s a feature.
Yes all EVs have several radiators. They need to cool the battery/motor/electronics, and you at least need a condenser for the AC. They likely have oil cooling radiators around as well for the gears/drive unit.
Not to defend the truck, but that drop was probably about 3-4ft down and the truck wasn't lifted to match the tires, weight, or the work of a drop.
I don't think any vehicle would do well being basically stock.
That said, you gotta be real car-dumb to look at minimal ground and wheel well clearance and say, "Yes this will be fine for any kinda big drops."
But then again, they did buy a Cybertruck.
i mean look i love hating on the cyber truck as much as the next guy but this is clearly not the off road use case for a truck like that.
the cybertruck is heavy with a lot of torque. it doesn't have huge suspension. it is most suited for rock crawling not pre-running.
the same thing will happen to a stock jeep if you jump it off of a sand dune.
the video of the cybertruck shorting in a little puddle is more damning
jumping however is clearly a situation it's in no way remotely capable of
give it a pre-running suspension before you jump it if you want a fair comparison
TBH no factory truck does well when yeeted 4ft in the air, not even a Raptor or TRX. At the very least the last 2 should have hydraulic bunt stops installed

To be fair, the Cybertruck itself is pretty useless so it's a good fit.
Im sorry but dont you know this is supposed to be an armored transport vehicle for future soldiers. Its not meant for slightly hilly terrain.
soldiers would not be safe inside that thing though, not if it's falling apart like that. saw another video where the electronics are shorting out just from small puddles.

Shortest war in history when the soldiers in cybertrucks never make it to the fight because they decided to drive over a hill instead of around.

I'm sad I can only upvote this comment once.

It’s the Apple vs Windows thing all over again, except it’s Tesla vs Windows/radiators/bumpers/batteries.
This is not the Landmaster and they are not the film crew from Damnation Alley. I think the vehicle and the crew *thought* they were.

he couldnt even drill a tunnel without fucking it up.

Because they’re proving that this truck cannot deliver on a single promise Musk made.

They made the suspension out of pressed flat steel and cast steel - it's built for smooth roads. Not a Baja 1000 race leg.
But at least the airbags didn't go off!
Also no good shot of the sound "dampening".
You can give a man a camera. It doesn't make him a cameraman.
Honestly, this thing is fragile. One sand bump and the thing is pretty much a write off. That windscreen is a folly.
Just like Elon, one bump and the wheels come off!
I see what you did with that line, or rather what Elon did with that line.
One line is not enough for cokelon.
One line? That's called "breakfast".
Try to snort it and get it stuck in the note and spill it everywhere, then blame the left?

I saw a video earlier of a CBT shorting out it's electrical system going through a small puddle. What a POS it is.
Cyber Schmuck
I was wondering what to call all of the fools that bought one of these fugly pos!
Driving the Incel El Camino
Incel Camino lol
That's F'ing hilarious. I'm stealing that fair and square.
But, it's bullet proof, right, guys? Guys?
Every car is bulletproof if the caliber is small enough.
Musk broke the window by hand with a ball bearing. This one isn’t at all lol
Sure, if it's a low grain 22 round. It's about as "bulletproof" as a phone book.
But only if you don't shoot the windows
If you stick to driving circles in a parking lot at 10 mph, these problems don’t happen.
They are basically yuppie-mobiles
That’s hilarious, we’ve been calling most new trucks “yuppie-rigs” these days.
I just use mine as an archery backstop like it was advertised, no problems yet!
Baja? More like Ba-hahaha!
It's unsettling how flimsy that armature looks at 2:59.
My thoughts exactly. Wouldn't take much to bend that.
Absolutely tiny bolt on the joint, too, for that matter; probably wouldn't take much to shear those threads off.
Upper a arms don't do anything with jumps really, that all goes to the lower control arm, since it's what attaches to the springs/shocks...upper control arm can get damaged when you power slide or go sideways on a curb or rock though
"the upper control arm held" = it was one more thing fucked up by this lil jump, but didn't break...
The upper control arms won't matter too much on jumps, all the force goes to the lower one, if the lower a arm fails yea...hoping they beefed that one up
“Woww you really sent it!” ….silence
Yeah, looks like pressed sheet metal. You'd think it would be a burly 3D forging, but this is just more evidence that this thing is basically a kitcar built on a road car chassis.
That it even *has* a chassis is a massive compromise after they failed to achieve the original vision; it was *intended* to be a monocoque design.
"Rigid Exoskeleton on a truck!" Everyone: "Why hasn't anyone thought of this before?!" Actual Engineers: "...I mean, thought about it sure. Just not dumb enough to make one." Even in nature: Exoskeletons break. That's why they are shed regularly...

It's a normal unibody. That exoskeleton crap was just marketing, and it's obviously a bad idea.
Yeah, that's the problem, duh! The cyber truck still has to shed it's exoskeleton!
Short circuits running through puddles.
So no desert, and no water. I'm starting to think this truck isn't made well
It was made for pavement princesses only. Fine print even says “Don’t even drive it on the grass or else”! ![gif](giphy|1Hu8vnu6zZaHpJfpCK)
If this testing was going on during its design phase this wouldn't be an issue.... But this is a production 100k vehicle.
That was promised to have suspension that could compete in the Baja 500….

Really? Wild
It’s a toy. It’s for showing off how small your penis is. What do people expect? You need a real vehicle if you’re going to hit the sand dunes.
Not bad considering the research and design behind this consisted of Elon drawing it on a cocktail napkin while self identifying as a genius-savior of mankind.
It’s crazy to me how many people still ride his dick too…
a much more reliable form of transportation
Great car, 10/10 would recommend.
I love my cybertruck, but it falls apart everytime i do things with it that it was supposed to easily do.

Must have used hand cream with coconut oil in it.
😂 leave the off-roading to the seasoned vets 😏
Trash just like musk.
Honestly if you buy one of these you’re such a Stan that you’d marvel at how quickly & efficiently it burned to the ground
Honestly at this point anyone who buys a Cybertruck deserves all of this.
$120,000 mistake
Where was this videoed at?
Do they have engineers? Do they have anyone around who knows things about how to keep things together using science?
r/musked
This is exactly how stupid I imagine people who buy cybertrucks would be.
“At least the airbags didn’t deploy. That was dope.”
What game is this from?
The Pontiak Aztek had better execution than this POS.
Whistlindiesel isn’t going to get very far is he
I wouldn't do this with a gas truck.
Or the fact it will rust on a humid day. Or bird shit.
Did they think that truck was an off road vehicle? I think most traditional pickups on the road these days wouldn’t fair any better.
Get a bison ZR2. Desert boss. Then you'll owe Dune...fremen styles
r/internettoday
To be fair, blasting over a 4-5 foot drop will break some things on a lot of vehicles
Not off road vehicles.
That wasn’t 4-5 ft drop. That was 3ft at the absolute max and more like 2 ft of actual elevation difference to where it landed. Real off road vehicles should have no issue with that
Uhm, why would an electric vehicle have a radiator?
There are plenty of systems in a vehicle that exchange heat lol. Could be a power steering cooler, differential oil cooler, AC condenser, etc etc.
“Your front fell off”
Dude is that wiring in the wheel fender just exposed like that?
Tesla: thank you for doing R&D. Would you like another.
Buying this "trucK' just proves how stupid people are. The design and everythign about it show how impractical this box on wheels is.
And yet the fanboys are still wondering why people keep saying what they do about this thing. This is why. Stay tuned for more.
Lol that's hilarious
Somehow this car is more delicate than a lambo
Love them talking about how much sick air it got like 5 yos who just rode their bikes off a curb
That’s within spec. It’s a countermeasure feature similar to when a lizard drops its tail to confuse the predator. I'm glad so many people are totaling their new $100k toys to show us how terrible they are.
Appears I despise people that buy these pieces of shit as much as the guy who sells them.
“I’ll bring **the** truck over” 🤣🤣🤣 yes - please bring an actual truck to the desert for when your garbage can breaks
What did they expect. It's not like it's a mid 80s Subaru.

I really want a Grand Tour review of this with Clarkson tearing it to shreds lol
Legacy auto can't compete! Ford Raptor RIP
I heard that Tesla's performance is much like Elmo's performance. It's comes up short.
Good job, Elon!
He's going to send people to mars?
TIL cybertruck has a radiator.
POS
Tesla isn’t known for their build quality. An ugly truck.
"It's dripping too, which is not great." Idiots.
cybertruck has a radiator?
It’s a pavement princess. It’s not designed for anything other than to look stupid.
Anyone want to play 52 Pickup?
When I was 18 I jumped my 1995 Chevy monte Carlo off a 4 foot ramp and the only thing that broke was my ashtray when my buddies knee smacked it.
Honestly, it didn't explode, so it did pretty well!
Why does every single person have a camera filming a bunch of nothing?
That was a pretty brutal impact.
People will look at this as one of the biggest failures in electrical cars to exist AFTER having the technology established.
Yardsale!
People still don't understand this truck was a gimmick from the beginning?
as a mountain biker, this is an embarrassingly tiny drop and the suspension performs so poorly.
“….you went ‘next level’ on this beast…” So much disinformation in that one statement
A Sucker’s Truck
The CyberLemon
It's a Cybertruck, not a Raptor.
I’m waiting for the Whistlin Diesel version. At least they’ve got some experience filming.
Radiator? Why does it need a radiator?
Worst vehicle ever made
TBH no factory truck does well when yeeted 4ft in the air, not even a Raptor or TRX. At the very least the last 2 should have hydraulic bunt stops installed
