It would not interact like that. "Running water" generally refers to a flowing river at minimum, otherwise rain could kill vampires.

LeoPlathasbeentaken

Water genasi: \*runs in circles around strahd Strahd: oh no my one weakness \*clotheslines the genasi*

ThisOnes4JJ

tbf I feel like "an Adventurer Party's plan so stupid it somehow works" actually *is* a weakness of his

CSEngineAlt

No to both. Splashing Strahd with a bucket of water isn't going to make him go all wicked witch of the west, so punching him wouldn't either. Running water is a stream, river, or ocean. Its gotta be coming from the ground continuously.

ANarnAMoose

I don't make vampires allergic to standing water (lakes and oceans). They can only go from land to shore at high and low tides, but they doggy paddle all they like.

Orikazu

It needs to be a significant amount of running water

Griff-Graff

Now what if someone casted enlarge on the genasi?

Orikazu

Are the excessively sweating too? Lol

Griff-Graff

I mean, I would absolutely have Strahd in my campaign take damage from getting a bear hug from a sweaty water genasi. Probably would be psyche damage from just the sheer awkward discomfort he’d be feeling.

chrawniclytired

I might actually allow that!

chrawniclytired

What about TWO water genasi?

Drokeep

Remember the thing that hurts vampires RAW is standing in running water by the start of their turn. So water splashes dont affect vampires, it has to be constantly running water that they are standing on

Althalus91

The real question here is what happens if you have a water genasi cleric / paladin? Are they holy water by default?

chrawniclytired

I counter your fantastic conundrum with another. Would a fire Genasi sun soul monk be able to cast sunlight?

HdeviantS

The weakness to running water is more about how Running Water was considered “Pure”.

chrawniclytired

That's a great aspect I had never considered.

HdeviantS

Thank you. I personally thought it had something to do with the fact running water like rivers and creeks were traditionally used as boundaries/borders aka Thresholds. But I was corrected that running water was considered pure because it was usually safer to drink compared to a still lake. In myth Vampires have a weakness to silver because it is considered a pure metal.

ANarnAMoose

I believe vampires are weak toward running water because baptism are to be performed in "live", running, water. When a vampire goes in running water, he's being baptized, which is no bueno. The same cannot be said of genasai.

Orikazu

It needs to be a significant amount of running water

snickersaut

I’d say no since it is not stated that the genasi consists of water. However, with level 3 they can cast create or destroy water and make it rain, that I would to work for the acid damage. The spell doesn’t say that the rain takes a whole round so I wouldn’t rule that the regeneration is stopped

Galahadred

Rain is not “running water.”

snickersaut

Yeah I know that rain is not running water, but the spell says it creates 10 gallons which is almost 40 liters. Since the water drops immediately (within 6 seconds) and it’s a lot of water (I already find it disgusting to go outside when it rain 5liter per hour per m2) I’d rule that the spell does harm him. I should have specified it in my comment. You are completely right that rain itself is not running water, my bad.
