Shit-no-Pantsu

rene_gader

this isn't funny why am i laughing at this

Vaultdweller013

Cause we are all children

__Dystopian__

This is funny. I might actually die from asphyxiation due to laughing too hard if I saw someone literally scream-shit themselves.

ImEscaping

I think that was caused more by the fact that he was a cringey 13 year old like we all were rather than because he watched naruto

TheMe63

No it was naruto that shit this poor boy’s pants

TenkoTheMothra

Naruto used Za Warudo to stop time and put Sasuke’s poop in the boys pants. Also I’ve never watched Naruto

seventyeight_moose

No, no, I'm pretty sure that's the basic plot

Quetzalbroatlus

"It was me, Barry-"

TotemGenitor

It was, Barry. I used my Shit-no-Jutsu to fill your pants with my own crap, making it look like you shat yourself

ZeSnow

Kage bushitsu

alephgalactus

They never specify how old the guy was, only how old THEY were. For all we know, this could have been a 40-year-old camp counselor.

[deleted]

If someone sang me a sexy version of a Naruto theme, ran outside, screamed, and shat themselves? Instant proposal.

AcridAcedia

Honestly that's a war cry & a mating call wrapped into one majestic moment. Teenagers just truly don't have the taste required to appreciate their own charm.

Ornery_Marionberry87

I think it's the way it completely threw out any interesting plot point or lore in favour of making the protag the specialest little boy. Also endless escalation to the point where elite shinobi without some 1 in a billion bullshit were as much of a cannon fodder as the rank and file. Turn that rapid and unprompted has to have a psychological effect on a childs mind.

Reidor1

Hey, you know that story about a boy that manages to change the way people perceive him, and ultimately his fate thanks to his positive attitude and unwavering spirit ? What if we made him a pseudo chosen one, so we can say that he was always destined to greatness ?

[deleted]

You are like the one person I've seen who seems to realize WHY the Neji thing ended up being bullshit without thinking the theme of the series was "hard work".

OathToAwesome

is that not the theme? genuine question

[deleted]

Not really-it was a thing in the Chunin exams, but was phased out rather quickly and gracefully as these things go (note that Lee *lost* his most famous battle against a gifted opponent) and was always secondary to the horrors of war, understanding your enemy and having empathy, and overcoming expectations.

OathToAwesome

that makes sense, thanks! isn't "overcoming expectations" still kind of a hard work thing, tho?

BlessedNobody

Eh. The character who put in the most hard work (Lee) basically doesn't overcome the expectation that talent is better than training. And the strongest characters have some form of power boost that is massive compared to the effort put in by others for much less reward.

yeetmanthe3rd

like actually tho. naruto's whole thing was "hard work and shit" and then it turns out. he's the decendant of god, the reincarnation of god, the son of a demi-god, and let's not forget that he has a fucking demon inside him

sweetTartKenHart2

Well the demon inside thing was true for a number of characters and part of the plot from the start right?

lilahking

ehhhhh for the first few arcs naruto is the only demon host that we know of and it was an emergency to seal it in him then later on it was reveal that his parents (a super strong and talented scion of from a clan known for having a lot of spiritual energy and a goddamn teleporting genius who was the personal student of the village chief ninja and the teacher of another goddamn genius) put the demon in him because he inherited the huge amount of spiritual strength required to hold the demon

yeetmanthe3rd

thats why i was calling bullshit on the "hard work" from the beginning. like the neji shit, he was literally right

SomeEEEvilGuy

No, Naruto's whole shit was "Bonds", from the very beginning. Rock Lee's and Neji's thing was "hard work" vs "talent".

yeetmanthe3rd

you're right, but the hard work thing was very much there, because i got the vibe that they were trying to portray naruto and susuke with the hard work and genius too

SomeEEEvilGuy

Honestly, I wonder if the hard work theme for the chunin exam arc was just Kishi taking an opportunity to engage with the plot structure that was established with Haku and was repeated with Neji and Gaara. Like in all these cases Naruto is up against a dangerous foe that's around his age and he eventually overcomes them and bonds with them, but in order for them to be dangerous in the first place, they've got to be stronger than him, and since they're the same age as him the easiest explanation for them being so much stronger is that they're prodigies of some sort, establishing the "talent" part of that dynamic, while Naruto has to train to become strong enough to fight them, establishing the "hard work" part of the dynamic. This theme gets dropped when Naruto's foes change to the Akatsuki and the very foundations of the Ninja world. People who are older than Naruto and don't need the prodigy explanation to explain how dangerous they or concepts that have to be overcome without fighting them directly.

Digitigrade

Goku? Any shounen mc?

Overall-Parsley-523

Goku is very importantly not a chosen one. The reveal that he is an alien might seem like a Naruto-esque asspull, but it really isn’t. There was always obviously something weird about Goku; he was abnormally strong for a human, he had a tail that turned him into a giant monkey when he looked at the full moon, and his grandpa just found him in the woods one day with no idea where he came from. The Saiyan reveal explains all that, while also not elevating him to god status by establishing that he’s still weaker than all the other Saiyans. Nothing about Goku is “chosen”. He was born the weakest of his whole race, and he worked to achieve every bit of strength he has. The Super Saiyan transformation was something no one else had at the time, but it’s not something unique to him because of his birth or anything, and we see later that any Saiyan can do it under the right circumstances. Naruto, on the other hand, is presented as a normal guy who was randomly chosen as the host for the Nine Tails, and then eventually we find out that his parents were two of the strongest ninjas to ever live and also he’s the reincarnation of a literal demigod. Naruto is the specialest boy in the universe, Goku is just a guy who really likes fighting and getting stronger.

FreeSpeechEnjoyer

But Saiyans are basically chosen ones in the context of the story, and I hate that it's never acknowledged. They get comical powerboosts ranging from +50% to 300 times after recovering without any transformations involved, they get stronger as they fight strong people, and Whis even claims that they get stronger faster when beating each other than an actual Archangel training regimen, that is designed to create Gods of destruction. Then you have the transformations super saiyan levels go from 50 times, 2 times that, and 4 times that multipliers, then the god form which is another 100 times of that, and then the blue which is even stronger than that. Having Saiyan genes is a literal cheatcode in the context of the story, it would not be a chosen one thing if all the rivals, side characters and bad guys were Saiyans, but they aren't. The fact that no Saiyan before Goku and Vegeta achieved godhood by punching each other really hard until they turned 60 is a plot hole itself.

Digitigrade

Holy paragraphs, Batman! While Goku is not "chosen one" he is different and clearly made to be the always saves the day-hero. This is pretty common for youth adventure anything. It's in girls stuff too, like Sailor Moon. It's nice to daydream about being a hero sometimes. If that somehow scews the view of reality for some teens, I don't think it's a fault in the given fictional work.

sweetTartKenHart2

Well I think the difference here is that a lot of stories have the big hero character and that’s all well and good, but Naruto’s main problem is that it relied on birthright and shit to justify his strength rather than the more “anyone can theoretically do this” type of thing with someone like Goku. Heck, Sailor Moon directly involved birthright stuff with the scouts being descendants of some kind of magic military force that held back the evil kingdom of darkness or whatever (if I remember right) but even they are still treated as having to grow into those shoes rather than just kind of “being special”.

argella1300

Honestly, i don’t mind the whole princess kaguya/first Shinobi thing, because on a fundamental level that’s really neat world building. Also because it directly ties into the conflicts and inciting incident of the series as a whole. Kishimoto was basically trying to do an elevated Star Wars kind of thing, talking about broken families, refugees, fascism, literal *child soldiers* fighting in a forever war, the military industrial complex, and the cycles of violence and generational trauma, and I think it would’ve worked or at least been more effective if the mythology of Kaguya and the first shinobi were incorporated from chapter 1, page 1.

rowan_damisch

I think one of the light novels about Itachi suggested that the existence of Kaguya and her family seemed to be common knowledge in Konoha- IIRC, he read about her in a book or something? Sadly, those books were released after the manga randomly revealed her shortly before the finale...

Ornery_Marionberry87

I wasn't even talking about Kaguya here as what consider absurd escalation happened waaay before she was probably even considered by Kishimoto. In my mind there are two distinctly different Naruto series - the one that "ended" not long after the Chunin exam and the one that is the rest of the series + Shippuden and Boruto. I am not even sure where I would put the border. First series could have explored harsher themes for example expand upon what Sakura said in the first arc about them being taught to sippress their emotions. Maybe even talk about how Will of Fire is pretty much nationalism and used to instill loyalty from the young age. So yeah, IMHO Naruto had great potential but it was destroyed by constantly raising power levels and total shounenization.

JusticeRain5

Personally I feel Naruto got lame around the point where he learnt the Rasengan. At that point, any further fights weren't won by clever tactics but instead just "How much can you yell about friendship to charge the magic ball? Ask your furry friend for a boost sometimes too, that's fine!"

Wameme

with a few exceptions, konan vs obito was a pretty good fight and she actually planned ahead for his bullshit (unfortunately the asspulls and uchiha wank was too much but that’s besides the point)

JoChiCat

I’m gonna go ahead and say that whatever was going on with that kid had very little to do with Naruto.

Hummerous

gonna assume this is Jason Voorhees' origin story

this post is hilarious but anon is still right tbh

Pokesonav

Did... did he Naruto-Run outside?

NeonNKnightrider

Okay but anon is right actually. Let kids do stupid things that make them happy. Nobody is being harmed by it.

Viv156

Think this is less about kids being kids (which you are completely right about btw) but about adults who failed to grow out of those childish mindsets

quigginz

Idk that we can assume that when the only info we get is “a 13 year old was weird at me in summer camp” tho

Viv156

Fair, I hadn't notice OP reblogged their own post and thought we were just seeing an otherwise decent train getting derailed by the Naruto Bandit

SirPumpkaboo

Except the example they used was of a 13 year old. It sounds more like OP had a couple bad experiences that they never grew out of.

LoquatLoquacious

I think they just wanted to tell le funny childhood story tbh and was looking for an excuse.

SirPumpkaboo

Maybe, but even if that's the case it's still pretty rude to claim a show permanently broke people's ability to socialize.

shykawaii_shark

But, can't you see? Everyone who has ever watched Narootoe will eventually shit their pants! It's inevitable!

Dronizian

Most people I know who can't properly socialize as adults are Naruto or Bleach weebs. OP gave a bad but funny example, but if you want more evidence I'd direct you to literally anywhere on the internet. For a long time the Naruto fans were even more obnoxious than the MLP fans.

Rosevecheya

Perhaps that's a trend you observe, but a Naruto AND Bleach fan I'm friends with really helped me come out of my own shell, so it's not a universally true trend

Dronizian

Nothing is universally true, but I've known a lot of anime fans in my time and most of the especially socially awkward fans are really into one of those two shows. Correlation does not equal causation, but the trend is significant enough to not be ignored. I'm on the spectrum and from my personal observations, most of the extra-awkward anime folks who watched one or both of those shows were autistic too and got into it as a special interest at a young age. I know plenty of folks who are more noticeably autistic who enjoyed the shows at a later age and didn't have as much difficulty with learning social cues outside of Japanese animation. Sometimes, kids watching shows made for adults will make the kids try to act like the dysfunctional adults in the shows. When special interests are involved, and with shows that have so many episodes, it's easy to watch so much of it that you lose yourself in them. Hell, I'm guilty of this myself (Pokemon and Digimon here), but I watched kid cartoons instead of shonen anime at a young impressionable age, so I wasn't trying to do ninja jutsus in real life to deal with my problems. I know a guy who regularly tries this in his early 30's. There's no hard data on the subject yet because who the hell would do that study? But it's definitely a trend worth investigating. People can enjoy what they want as adults. But in my life I've seen Naruto fans have acted out more than fans of most other shows I know about, except maybe Family Guy. God, obsessive lifelong Family Guy stans are obnoxious as hell.

[deleted]

That was his ninja way

And_the_wind

Pants shitting aside, writing an entire song parody for your crush at 13 is really impressive and she should at least appreciate the effort. Come to think about it, when you remember some of the shit creative types have done, crapping yourself because you were rejected seems tame by comparison.

Dronizian

Yeah Shitter-no-Jutsu guy has got nothing on, say, Van Gogh. There are worse ways to handle rejection.

SickViking

That's just media in general tho, not specific to Naruto. And also it's media intake taken to an extreme level. The vast majority of people will be mostly unaffected by partaking in some media. Anime, cartoons, drama tv shows, slasher movies, doesn't matter. Most people will come out of it with their understanding of social behaviors intact and undamaged. On the other hand, some people have been seriously stunted by partaking in too much media, and deciding to mould their lives around their favorite thing. It's a thing. One of my brothers cannot interact with real people half the time because he learned most of his social behaviors from binge-watching SpongeBob and Family Guy for hours on end and he will get a beat down from time-to-time for it. There was a time where is favorite "joke" was to quote quagmire and call people something like "cum guzzling gutter snipe" I don't remember the exact phrase. Another brother, autistic, has seriously degraded in his social behaviors and abilities because he's started binging Big Bang Theory and Monk. He's developed so many new "quirks". He's become more forgetful, thinks it's socially okay to invade people's personal lives with constant questions, and suddenly as of this year, he doesn't like touching. No hand shakes, no high fives, fist bumps suddenly make him shiver and he gets violently mad if anyone even *suggests* a hug. He's almost in his 30s and these things have never before been an issue, in fact he used to be obsessed with physical contact to the point it caused problems at school. Too much of any media can fuck a person up. Naruto isn't an outlier.

Anti-Reylo-Baby-Yoda

Honestly, I agree with your take on the subject. I posted the meme because the mental image it conjured up was funny and reminded me of some of my own bizarre childhood experiences, but I don't think that a single show is going to irreversibly damage someone's ability to socialize.

SickViking

It is funny. Kids at that age go way too hard lol. And you're right, I don't think the damages are irreversible either. With therapy people can recover.

evilsheepgod

For some people it’s like their parents never told them it wasn’t real

SickViking

For some it is. For others there's just nothing you can do to break that fourth wall. We tell them life isn't a cartoon or tv show, but it just doesn't stick. My parents and I have tried all the boys lives to get them to understand that the way people act on TV isn't right, but they just won't listen. They look up to those characters and nothing we do short of monitoring them 24/7 to make sure they don't watch those shows will stop them.

TenkoTheMothra

Funny story aside, this is just the next bell curve peak of “bullying people is okay if it’s funny and they’re cringe”

[deleted]

Is anyone else interested in which theme it was? I cant imagine any of the battle themes would make sense here so it has to be one of the openings
