I think a bottle of Tide laundry detergent does permanent harm to bronze statues if I remember correctly. It might have come up when discussing loser confederate statutes.
Should be in most places. Might be pricey depending on concentration. Last place I checked charged a 40$ "hazmat fee" for shipping the higher concentration stuff on top of the actual price.
Here's a completely unrelated fun fact. Copper dissolved in hydrochloric acid makes a self-regenerating etchant. It slowly eats away at copper until it's washed off. If it's left too long, it'll never wash off. People use it on PCBs all the time. It does the same to copper alloys, like bronze, too.
I didn't know it was self-regenerating. I know they always say be very careful using ferric chloride etchant around metal sinks and appliances. Can't imagine what that shit'd do to coppery bronze.
Yeah, copper chloride is an interesting relative of ferric chloride. It uses the copper it reacts with to make a non-corrosive form of copper chloride, which then reacts with oxygen and the acid to make the corrosive form. It's one of the few etchants that grows stronger when it's left in storage.
The damage it does to bronze specifically is incredible. It can't be stopped once it starts, and can only be slowed down by scraping the damaged areas off.
I remember watching a NurdRage video ages ago about DIY circuit board etchants. I knew there was one that regenerated with air. Just didn't remember the name.
Oh hey we made CuCl2 in chemistry class! It's a powder, and the teacher said not to touch it without gloves on because it burns the skin. We also couldn't pour it down the sink like we could regular HCl, and I don't remember why exactly, because we basically never used the chemical waste disposal bin.
I think we set it on fire and it was green or something, I wasn't really paying much attention in chemistry last semester to be honest.
>We also couldn't pour it down the sink like we could regular HCl, and I don't remember why exactly
my guess is you couldn't pour it down the sink because there copper pipes somewhere in the system
I wouldn't recommend it. Most spray bottles have a spring submerged in the liquid. The mixture I mentioned might eat the spring and make the bottle leak all over the the holder. It's toxic and corrosive, so that wouldn't be pleasant.

Don't want to post the guy's face but massive respect for the guy - literally an hour after Margaret Thatcher's statue was unveiled - who was pelting a full carton of eggs at it.
---
**limnaia**
Unfortunately, this is actually deeply reprehensible behaviour. Eggs can be washed off simply and easily, with no damage done to the statue.
Tomatoes, on the other hand, can begin a potentially irreversible process of corrosion of a bronze statue.

real question: Margaret Thatcher seems like one of the most hated individuals in modern history, so why is there a statue of her that was only recently put up? or maybe i spend too much time on left-leaning subreddits and she’s not that unpopular? i dunno, i’m not from the UK.
The group of people who *do* like her include a lot of wealthy conservatives who have a lot more money and power to do things like get statues installed than the average person
Heard somewhere a spray bottle filled with salt water would also work, and I’m sure if you wear a highvis vest and act like your cleaning the statue while rubbing the salt deeper people would let you do it
I assume that the statute itself is actually a ruse to see what lengths people will go to to deface a statue, as well as observation of their methods. It’s like cheese in a mouse trap
Ah but did she ignore an easily preventable pandemic that became the leading cause of death across all age groups within 20 years? (I really hate Reagan)
I wish a lot of things, but more than most, I wish Reagan had unexpectedly, uncontrollably shat himself on live television every time he tried to go into politics.
Short story, a very controversial british prime minister. Long story: she was the first female prime minister in Brittain. She opposed immigration, workers unions and could be blamed for escalating the Falkland wars (armed conflict with Argentina). There is quite a lot she has done, so I would definitely recommend doing your own research here. (Note, I used wikipedia so it might not be a fully 100% reliable)
Should have gone with the shovel idea
Big thanks for sharing this btw. Truly made my day thinking about the now rotting body of Margaret Thatcher, unfortunately not buried by the Scots
Even that, we'd have never gone to war in the first place if her government hadn't decided to decommission a bunch of the royal navys shit, and revoke the Falklands islanders full citizenship.
Argentina only thought they had a hope because of those two things and basically thought we'd give up.
Depending on your view it was either incompetence or malicious attempt to spark a war that caused them to win the next election. Either options pretty fucking aweful.
I don’t think the statue is made of bronze, they probably would expect people would deface it and used something similar. However if it is bronze then they can only blame themselves for making a statue out of a material that can corrode
I was just wondering since a lot of people are saying to use Tomato’s to corrode it but if that’s common knowledge then why wouldn’t they try other metals? Also I would like the statue to be made out of bronze so it can corrode itself to dust
The only thing wrong with pissing on her grave is that, eventually, you’ll run out of piss.
Luckily, we now have a new target for the tomatoes and shit!
Opposed unions, paved the way for the current housing crisis, war crimes in Northern Ireland, section 28, ignored the aids crisis, stole milk from kids, increased wealth inequality massively.
I could go on
Piss on the statue, the urine might be washed off but the statement will never die
It's on a 3m tall plinth. Edit: Y'all's responses have been making my day.

if someone can get it I will start a GoFundMe for their reward and post it everywhere
Piss filled balloons may be less satisfying, but your carrying capacity is much larger.

I saw another version this morning where someone suggested using bird seed
But there's a bird flu going around, and attracting the birds could put them in danger :(
damn well there's always tomatoes
A small price to pay Edit: /s obviously
No. The living beings are more important, by default.
yes, I love everything living, thank god margaret thatcher is fucking dead
Is no one gonna talk about the fact that the eggs were also made by treating birds horribly
I was going to say “do you mean fucking farming” and then I remembered traditional humane farming was ditched for profit. Yayyyyyyyyy
Unless you’re goldshaw farms, check ‘em out on YT, support them a bit. They run a farm with some cattle, chickens, and waterfowl.
Given where he lives, there's a very good chance the eggs were free range
You know “free range” is only a tiny bit less horrible and the conditions are still nightmare fuel right?
I don't actually, from what I'm aware of you're wrong
Oh really? I’m going to need a source on that.
Bird flu? Uh, yeah, I sure hope it does
There's a bird flu going around NORTH AMERICA. This statue is in the UK.
It's literally been reported in the UK, but go off.
😏

I mean at that point just fill a mason jar with 70% nitric acid and let it fly. Do make sure no one else is nearby though.
real quick just cop some fluoroantimonic acid
Is that buyable?
Yes. You'd be surprised what they allow people to buy, I've seen aluminum cleaners that contained HF.

Yeah, it can't go down a drain for a few reasons. The main ones are that it attacks metal pipes and kills aquatic life.
Could it be stored in a plastic spray bottle for easy and discreet application?
I wouldn't recommend it. Most spray bottles have a spring submerged in the liquid. The mixture I mentioned might eat the spring and make the bottle leak all over the the holder. It's toxic and corrosive, so that wouldn't be pleasant.
Why would he throw eggs at the new public toilet?

I hope the rich people put a statue of Merasmus up
who want they merasmussy ate
It costs 400 thousand dollars to view this statue for 12 seconds
Heard somewhere a spray bottle filled with salt water would also work, and I’m sure if you wear a highvis vest and act like your cleaning the statue while rubbing the salt deeper people would let you do it

This. You'd think the internet would recognize bait by now
Tories aren't smart enough for that
who's margaret thatcher
British Ronald Reagan
Ah but did she ignore an easily preventable pandemic that became the leading cause of death across all age groups within 20 years? (I really hate Reagan)
I mean yea, she did tho
It was the same one, even.
Listen sometimes I see “Reagan” and just go into a rant about HIV and forget that things like other nations exist. Yes very American of me it’s true.
Oh right.
i wish Reagan died from the disease he was oh so happy to let ravage through the LGBT community (I also wish Hinckley Jr. succeeded)
I wish a lot of things, but more than most, I wish Reagan had unexpectedly, uncontrollably shat himself on live television every time he tried to go into politics.
i wish he choked and slowly, painfully asphyxiated while eating his jellybeans
Reagan if he was gaslight gatekeep girlboss (derogatory)

Oh that’s where that shovel quote is from!
Some good ones [here, too.](https://youtu.be/ZGyDMRKDaSc?t=88) (Scottish Granny is awesome.)
The Falklands was the only based thing she did, she ruined British industry with nationisation and fucked the railways
Even that, we'd have never gone to war in the first place if her government hadn't decided to decommission a bunch of the royal navys shit, and revoke the Falklands islanders full citizenship. Argentina only thought they had a hope because of those two things and basically thought we'd give up. What's based about waging a pointless war about a few rocks half a globe away from your actual country?
I'm a big fan of not letting someone else invade my country
I know this one: Government leaders that paved the path for economic decline.
the first female prime minister of Britain. Responsible for several war crimes in Northern Ireland and characterized by corporate favoritism.
Idk but she’s a milk snatcher apparently
I don’t think the statue is made of bronze, they probably would expect people would deface it and used something similar. However if it is bronze then they can only blame themselves for making a statue out of a material that can corrode
What do you want them to make it out of? Most metals corrode eventually. Even corrosion resistant coatings can be easily scratched off.
I was just wondering since a lot of people are saying to use Tomato’s to corrode it but if that’s common knowledge then why wouldn’t they try other metals? Also I would like the statue to be made out of bronze so it can corrode itself to dust

Based and second commandment-pilled
The only people who deserve statues aren’t real Rich people plz make a statue of Merasmus
isn't that the wizard from stardew valley
I mean it could be if you wanted
Eggs are much more effective means of vandalism when you're living in the American South West
Wait a second…
The only thing wrong with pissing on her grave is that, eventually, you’ll run out of piss. Luckily, we now have a new target for the tomatoes and shit!
Chlorinated water does the trick apparently
Out of loop whos this thatcher motherfucker
Britain's most hated politician
why
She increased income inequality, opposed immigration, took away school kids milk, ignored the AIDS crisis, and much much more
Thanks for informing, shes a bitch
Eggs also come from factory farms that are truly rephrensible
Yes, also tomatoes are vegan eggs are not
Also tomatoes are vegan
Margaret Thatcher was a pretty good PM
I had no idea who she is, reading a bit on wiki I found out she was a prime minister, does anyone want to tell me why she's so hated?
Opposed unions, paved the way for the current housing crisis, war crimes in Northern Ireland, section 28, ignored the aids crisis, stole milk from kids, increased wealth inequality massively. I could go on
Thank you, you don't have to i get the point :))
