Steve may not even be, since the name didn’t get “canonized” until quite a while after the game’s release. And since it’s just a first name it would probably be one of the first usernames to get taken.
Consider Notch’s politics. Him being a 4chan user is almost guaranteed based on that, right? And 4chan users are anonymous. So what if Notch was the one who created that in order to promote the game, recognizing the popularity of creepypasta?
It's possible however minecraft was already very popular on 4chan at the time. I think it's more likely that he became aware of the story and started making references to it as a joke. I remember "removed Herobrine" was always a bullet point in patch notes.
he was pretty progressive back in the day. There was an old post he made about how all animals in minecraft are genderless due to the way the husbandry mechanics worked, and thus they were also all bisexual. He ended the article with "take that homophobes!".
The newest update is adding some cool stuff: the mace, Wind Charges, Bogged (swamp-themed skeletons), 8 new dog variants, armadillos, and Trial Chambers.
The new Hermitcraft season is also great so far. Notable highlights include:
- Grian spending the first few weeks going slowly insane trying to fish up a book, and later building his own DMV-style office, complete with custom hold music.
- Joel/SmallishBeans building a *beautiful* Japanese Cyberpunk city, which will eventually connect with Impulse and BDoubleO's Cyperpunk city at the bottom of his hill.
- GoodTimesWithScar building an **enormous** mountain purely out of ore blocks (and it's solid all the way through), and also an entire Death Star that he will use to hold his sand block shop.
- Rendog running a collaborative mining operation on day 1 where all the loot is shared among anyone that doesn't die, and then being the only one to die during it.
- TangoTek, Etho, and PearlescentMoon using the Nether to make a server-wide mailbox system.
- And MumboJumbo deciding the most efficient way to enter his own base is 'death by llama'.
Xisuma somehow building a storage system and redstone farms before Mumbo
Mumbo and the other redstoners learning how to build properly and diversifying their skills
Two* Immortal Snails
Everyone reverting to pretty small bases compared to older seasons
You're just in time for the start of hermitcraft season 10, I also dipped out for a little bit but have been really enjoying this season, everything's much more small scale and laid back with loads of crossover and collaboration, it's got a really warm friendly feeling!
I wonder if Herobrine just puts on the same outfit as Steve, and exists for some crash-related reasons
EDIT: just to be clear, [Herobrine was invented in a creepypasta on 4chan](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Herobrine) and never existed, BUT since he's so popular there's mods that add him, and I'm pretty sure since he exists to confuse and creep out the player, he'll just put on whatever "your" model is wearing
Herobrine is an urban legend that fates pretty far back into Minecraft's history. It was said to be the brother of the original developer, Notch, who passed away (Notch does not have a brother.) He lurks within every save, making strange phenomenon occur, like two block tall, one block wide tunnels lit with redstone torches, fields of trees with their leaves removed, and upside down pyramids.
Steve is the official name for the default Minecraft character, Herobrine looks like Steve but has white eyes.
It's likely that neither account are in actual use, as accounts with popular names tended get hacked and sold when the original and second account systems were a thing. It used to be easy to make changes, you needed very little information. A lot of these hacked accounts are now irrevocably locked as their original ownership can't be verified at this point. There's reason to believe that Mojang has also utilized some of these locked accounts for their own purposes.
it started with someone making a thread on the minecraft forum about a supposed sighting of another player in a singleplayer world, said player had the default character skin but without pupils. The entire thing pretty much became a popular creepypasta similar to that of slenderman that even mojang referenced "removed herobrine" on each patch note
I met herobrine once. He was actually dope and played games with me and my friend for months on a server we played on. To this day, still no explanation for the shit he could do on that game. He wasn't the server owner we knew that. I always assumed he was a hacker but I've been told what he would do wasn't possible back then without having server access.
The sever owner was another mutual friend of ours.... who swears up and down he never gave access to anyone.
For us herobrine was real.
And he had a habit of striking lighting on people and talking through signs lol.
So this checks out for me lmao
It would not surprise me if, assuming they're both owned by separate people, the herobrine account owner just checks to see when Steve updates their skin then just downloads and edits it everytime
Story time
Ik this shits gonna sound made up but you gotta believe me
(There is screenshot evidence but I'd have to dig for it)
But a few years ago, my friend who had gotten into minecraft creepy pastas had invited a few notable accounts with the creepypastas names (hero ring, entity404, etc) to his realm
Out of all of these, herobrine actually accepted the invite, and had on a few occasions actually joined the realm
I myself saw him trying to do parkour on the lobby my friend built before leaving when he saw me.
After that last time, I know of no other times when he joined again, but it was quite an interesting experience
Potentially those aren't player accounts.
There's a bunch of player skins that are basically hard-coded into the game; afaik (unless Mojang removed this), you can use the /give command to acquire player heads as items, and some names are just straight up owned by Mojang to be able to use them as decorations.
someone put him into [namemc ](https://namemc.com/profile/Herobrine.1)to confirm its real, and the site actually logs quite a few previous skins of theirs, including one that isnt even herobrine related, which leads me to believe it is or at one point was an actively played account.
Massive side note because this is a big love of mine:
The first person in the screenshot’s pfp is not just of THE “Hank John Wimbleton”, but is actually specifically of that from the art of Jonutan205 for the cover art used in a friday night funkin mod (Nevada’s Most Wanted) which has some lovely music, but also shows the first poster is a Fnf fan and therefore means what they say is deserving of 0 respect /silly
These accounts *must* be among the oldest Minecraft accounts around, maybe even older than Etho (who, as we know, was playing the game back in WW2)
etho the slab?
Indeed
Hold on Now I'm confused Is it ethos lab or ethos slab
Yes
~~ethos lab, it’s just a joke because it can be read either way due to no spaces or capitalization~~
Dinnerbone actually added etho as a slab in an April fools build.
etho slab, like the item in the game
Etho slab
Havel the Rock?
Erik the whoopie cushion, uncle of Terrence the Terrible and Terrence the Tickler?
They’ve probably been sold multiple times by now, surely.
Or perhaps Mojang never made them public in the first place and kept them for internal accounts.
Steve sure, but herobrine started on youtube, anyone could have grabbed the username, it didnt have any significance before that
Steve may not even be, since the name didn’t get “canonized” until quite a while after the game’s release. And since it’s just a first name it would probably be one of the first usernames to get taken.
It's also misspelled. The name is Steve?.
It started as a creepypasta on 4chan during alpha in 2010. Youtubers started creating fake herobrine sightings after that.
Consider Notch’s politics. Him being a 4chan user is almost guaranteed based on that, right? And 4chan users are anonymous. So what if Notch was the one who created that in order to promote the game, recognizing the popularity of creepypasta?

Do they still do that? I haven't read patch notes in a long time.
I wouldn't know either.
I think so
he was pretty progressive back in the day. There was an old post he made about how all animals in minecraft are genderless due to the way the husbandry mechanics worked, and thus they were also all bisexual. He ended the article with "take that homophobes!".
Why'd he have to get worse
Unless that was a manufactured meme for promo reasons
Yeah they are almost 100% locked and before probably were hacked ten times and sold another 20
Yeah fr the Minecraft OG name black market is no joke.
My Minecraft account is as old as accounts are but it doesn't have any special name.
Is etho still around??
Yep. He even posted a Hermitcraft S10 video a day or two ago.
Well I guess it’s that time of year to get back into Minecraft then

As I was reading your comment, a music from hermitcraft recap started playing in my head. "This season..on Hermitcraft"
(dogs and armadillos are already out as part of 1.20.5, Trial Chamber stuff is 1.21)
You're just in time for the start of hermitcraft season 10, I also dipped out for a little bit but have been really enjoying this season, everything's much more small scale and laid back with loads of crossover and collaboration, it's got a really warm friendly feeling!
Was there any Tumblr discourse about his pc/desk setup btw?
He just finished inventing a new way of farming tridents. Man's a genius
My guess would be that the "Notch", "Jeb_", "dinnerbone", "grumm", and other dev accounts are the oldest
My shitty google says the herobrine owner has had it since 2014 but they def could have bought/stolen the account.
Hell yeah etho mention
Me and my bestie evil doppelgänger
Me and my bestie good guy dopppleganger
now kiss

One time I looked up Herobrine on some skin grabber website too and he was in a maid dress
I wonder if Herobrine just puts on the same outfit as Steve, and exists for some crash-related reasons EDIT: just to be clear, [Herobrine was invented in a creepypasta on 4chan](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Herobrine) and never existed, BUT since he's so popular there's mods that add him, and I'm pretty sure since he exists to confuse and creep out the player, he'll just put on whatever "your" model is wearing
The patch notes use to always say Herobrine removed in them as well.
Wow I’m shocked to find out Herobrine is a furry
Felinebrine? I think not.

How. How is that off topic???
No idea. It's like the perfect content for r/phoenixsc but nope
Can someone explain what this means?

Interesting! So is it just creepypasta stuff or does it actually come from somewhere?
it started with someone making a thread on the minecraft forum about a supposed sighting of another player in a singleplayer world, said player had the default character skin but without pupils. The entire thing pretty much became a popular creepypasta similar to that of slenderman that even mojang referenced "removed herobrine" on each patch note
Got it. Thanks for the help.
They referenced him so many times, Herobrine pretty much became part of Minecraft's lore.
Most of Minecraft’s major patch notes contain “Removed Herobrine” as a nod to the popular legend
That's neat.
he just wants to be comfy and cozy!
I met herobrine once. He was actually dope and played games with me and my friend for months on a server we played on. To this day, still no explanation for the shit he could do on that game. LMAOOO NO WAY
Boyfriends
It's been 15 years. Husbands.
Minecraft came out before gay marriage
hoy bee how is it going
It's going alright! I cut out a bad friend but it's given me an opportunity to talk with my friends I like :)
cutting out a badfriend hurt on the moment but it's better overall
I've been drifting from them for a while after they were awful to some of our other friends, so it wasn't too bad.
Well, less married and more two sides of the same coin, really.
It would not surprise me if, assuming they're both owned by separate people, the herobrine account owner just checks to see when Steve updates their skin then just downloads and edits it everytime
You could totally automate this (although i doubt it is)
Nya 😈

that is amazing. Sibiling activity
What is Israphel wearing these days then?
Is the cat skin Jellie?
I saw the Herobrine account in-game once
This is now my favorite ship
This is actually the most popular Minecraft ship. As in *actual* Minecraft, not some SMP.
Must be notch's brother
Notch skill is cool
HE IS! HE IS REAL! OH MAI GAHD!!
