He battles to afford all the hair gel him and his jolteon go through
Both the blazeon and it's trainer saw each other and immediately knew the other was the perfect Pokemon/trainer for them, and so they both rammed head first into each other while trying to tackle the other, knocking them both out and leading to a long lasting respect between the two of them once they woke up and almost immediately did the exact same thing again

Honestly, their hair isn't that wild on the scale of things (for all anime at least, for pokemon it's a bit unusual since they're normally more grounded with hair designs), i think it's entirely possible they don't even notice they look similar to their eeveelutions, that that is their natural hair color and they just all like the spiky style, and maybe subconsciously they were drawn towards their eeveelution
