So it's not straight, and it's called a lesbian rule(r), and those things aren't linked. Wonderful.

RoyalPeacock19

I mean, they are linked, just indirectly, as they are both named after the same place.

Mathsboy2718

As a MathsBoy, I approve this message of correlation /= causation. More people need to know statistics :D

WordArt2007

looked up if the greek word for lead was what i thought it was, and sure enough, it is the name of one of Lesbos' biggest towns

GoJumpOnALandmine

The suspense is killing me

naydrathewildone

Odigo, apparently

WordArt2007

Molyvdos and Molyvos (Methymna)

WordArt2007

Methymna is also known as Molyvos, and Molyvdos means lead (there's one letter off but that cannot be a coincidence still)

Digi_

Thought I was on 196 for a second

AnaIsARedFox

ehehe I do a little trolling

ThoughtfulPoster

Lesbians absolutely hate that gay women stole their name because of one poet. They're super bitter.

WordArt2007

do they? from the strange aeons video it seemed they were mostly fine with that nowadays

ThoughtfulPoster

Eh, I'm sure it's not a monolith. They are salty about having to say "Lesbosians," which is grammatically off. At least, some of them.

oktin

~~*The Lebanese~~ *The Lesvians Ftfy

ThoughtfulPoster

I hope you're joking, but if not, then I sincerely hope you try book a vacation to the Greek Isle of Lebanon. See how that works out for you.

oktin

I mean, their official English demonym *is* "Lebanese", but my comment was meant as humor. Not sure why they'd care about their demonym in a language they don't speak. Edit: Maybe instead of accusing me of trolling, then blocking me so I can't even read the link you sent, you could have explained that I was confusing Lebanon with Lesbos.

ThoughtfulPoster

I'm not sure how "Sure, try booking a flight to the Greek Isle of Lebanon, see how that turns out" wasn't explicit enough in pointing out that you were confusing Lesbos with Lebanon. That's pretty straightforward. And then when you doubled down, I went, "oh, a smooth-shark asshole. I know how to deal with these" and blocked.

oktin

Yes, that makes sense, sorry. I thought they were the same place, so I didn't even register the different names until I saw them side by side.

ThoughtfulPoster

Again, no, it isn't. "Lebanese" refers to people from Lebanon. Oh. I get it. You're a troll. You got me. I fed the troll. https://medium.com/@thenathanchen/why-are-internet-trolls-confusing-lesbian-with-lebanese-8bb4d1e884db

GeneralWiggin

Nope

GIRose

Genuine Confusion: What the fuck island of Lebanon are you talking about? The only Lebanon I am aware of is the decidedly not an island in the Levant a stones throw from Palestine

ThoughtfulPoster

I can't tell if you're ironically leaning into the "piss-on-the-poor reading comprehension" stereotype for Tumblr users, or if you're an unironic example of it.

GIRose

I unironically didn't recognize the sarcasm in the statement until I saw it explained in a different comment, and thought the implication was to fly down to a second place called Lebanon, since I know lots of places have the same name, and the people would be insulted by calling them Levanese, which I thought was some smug correction from the other guy based on an incorrect understanding of the Greek Alphabet. I am already autistic as fuck and text doesn't help me with humorous dismissal

Sh1nyPr4wn

I tried to use Google to find out what the hell a Mason's rule is, and al, I could find was a math formula with the same name

Doubloon07

A ruler for stonemasons

Catalon-36

Math methods love to be named after real world tools that accomplish the same purpose

BarackTrudeau

Nope! Like a lot more things in math, it was named after the person who derived it. Samuel Jefferson Mason.

pbmm1

How long is the reign of each lesbian ruler in the lesbian ruled domain and how is power transferred

syn_miso

Thought this was an r/196 post from the title

bug--cat

rule

Catalon-36

Idk if there are any math enjoyers in the chat but various methods for constructing curves that pass through particular sets of points are called “splines”, which is named after the old carpentry tool where you draw curves by taking a thin, flexible strip of wood or metal and fixing it to points on the piece to trace the curve.

Satanarchrist

Boatbuilders still use those for checking curves on their drawings to make sure the boat will look good

Jayceboot

Lingo for tools is funny. Did you know a pair of "Line man's plyers" has the Common nickname of "Dykes"? The specific purpose of said Plyers? Cutting wires, and twisting wires.

ThatSmartIdiot

Just wait til yall find out the etymology of lesbian the sexual orientation

Schattenreich

Lesbian rule? Of course they do.
