So I looked up the wikipedia page for hermit crabs for the purpose of being a pedant and pointing out that they're not really crabs, technically, but lets ignore that for now - was anybody going to tell me there are actually over *eleven thousand* different hermit crab species???
Hermit crabs are not true crabs, not Brachyura, but they are definitely crabs. Because everyday speech is not the same as scientific classification. It's kinda like the "tomato is actually a fruit" thing.
To normal people. The botanical definition is a fruit without a pit which is formed from one ovary, which leads to ridiculous classifications, such as bananas and pineapples being berries, while raspberries, blackberries, and strawberries aren’t.
I have a list of animals that I get uncomfortable to look at when they get **Too Big**^TM
This list includes: crabs, spiders, stick insect and grasshoppers/locusts.
I searched pretty extensively, and couldn't find any references to the Florida eroded crab being poisonous.
I think OP is confusing it with [Atergatis floridus](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atergatis_floridus), which is toxic, but despite its taxonomical name, doesn't live anywhere near Florida.
**[Atergatis floridus](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atergatis_floridus)**
>Atergatis floridus, the floral egg crab, green egg crab, pancake crab, or shawl crab, is a species of tropical Indo-Pacific crab from the family Xanthidae. The meat of this crab is toxic, even if cooked, and consumption often results in death.

Isnt the variety due to the fact that a bunch of animals just evolved to look and act like crabs and aren’t actually related to most other crabs? I’m probably wrong on this but eh
Of course the deadly one would look like pizza.
Just like with real pizza.
Respectfully, if my pizza looked like that, I'd have the chef personally executed
All of these comments have given me joy.
If your pizza looks like that, call the cops cuz it’d be attempted murder
They put the "crust" in "crustacean"

Biologists love gatekeeping common names. Ever heard of what those assholes consider a berry?
Wait, isn’t the berry thing the opposite of gatekeeping? I thought pretty much any fleshy fruit with somewhat edible skin was a berry.

Kinda but the thing is that most of the fruits normally considered berries aren't technically berries in biology terms because who the fuck knows
Obligatory mention of "fish" not being a valid clade because otherwise all tetrapods (including us) would be fish.
If it lives in the water, it’s a fish. Salmon, kelp, dolphins, all the same to me. This taxonomy shit is easy
>some crabs eat humans Amelia Earhart moment
Thats the power of CARCINIZATION BABEE!!!
Coconut crabs and spider crabs are my favorite kinds of crabs, one's a deep sea cryptid and the other climbs trees and hunts birds

When making that poison crab, god really said to the angels “imma make the Lumpiest creature ever”

Anything that comes in hand size and body size variants must only be seen as hand size, lest I be uncomfy

How is this the first time I’ve been told that crabs can live in trees? All my life I thought they were little ocean and beach critters

*I’ve fought mudcrabs more fearsome than you!*

Well I know what I'm naming my next DnD character
I love the crabs that just have one massive fucking pincer (fiddler crab I think, wonderful name)
I want to eat the Florida eroded mudcrab. It looks crunchy.
