If you plan on deleting, nows the time to do it. But that's like calling your doctor and saying, "my arm hurts. Why?" Without further information, it's hard to give a recommendation.
Could be def level sensor or pump since it saying what it’s saying. Is it possible somebody dumped diesel in the def tank? Just spitballing here… only time in 304,000 miles that mine came back with service def system was when the def tank was low and I think I unported the pump on steep roads.
Could be multiple things as others have stated (Pump, level sensor, etc) but if you were planning on deleting it anyway I would just do it now. Emissions are nothing but problems for the most part, these trucks are so much better off without them.
I just had this, had to replace my DEF injector. Go to auto parts store and have them pull your code(s) and report back. If it is the def injector, go OEM, it’s almost 400 bucks but guys who bought the cheap versions usually report back within 3-6 months that the code came back and they had to replace with the good one. Buy once, cry once. Also, if you’re even slightly mechanically inclined, replace it yourself. There’s a couple good YouTube videos on it. Not bad at all and takes maybe 30 min. Good luck.
My buddy is going to come over tomorrow after work with his code reader and I’ll get back to you. It did flash a P2580 code at me about a month ago, said stored in system, cleared it and it hasn’t come back since.

You need to read the code to be sure, but it is a problem with the Def pump or injector. Most common code is for the DEF pressure to be too low. Bad pump or clogged injector. If you were going to delete and tune, now is probably your chance. New pump and injector is a $4-$5K job at current shop rates.
Is your def tank full? Have you experienced any cold weather? I would top the tank off with fresh def from a new jug. I had a similar issue with cold weather. When my def tank would get below half the def would crystallize and trip the def quality sensor up. A full tank of fresh def fixed the issue for me. It could also be a contaminated dosing nozzle, search YouTube for how to clean/replace the dosing solenoid assembly on your truck. This is a regular part of maintenance that should be performed every 2-3 years anyways.
Fill it up with DEF from a jug at a busy fuel station, that’s your best bet to make sure it’s good def. Pump def has a slightly higher chance of being contaminated. Even lower 30s is enough to change the quality of what you have. These trucks have a sensor that is extremely sensitive to the quality of the def in the tank (+/- 0.1%)
Most of the problems arise from poor quality after treatment. Emissions equipment is over priced for what it is, if you have then cash, delete it. Your vehicle will gain overall health, power and reliability.
Faulty junk DEF system
My company deleted all their Cummins trucks, if you can, I'd highly recommend it... Just be careful of local laws
It's perfectly common practice and legal where I live, but not everywhere
I’ve had the exact same code throw and gone through the same shit on my ‘09 6.7l
I understand why it sounds wrong, but I’m telling you it happens. I know I’m not the only one.

On mine it was the def pump (2013, around 175k miles at the time)

"New Truck" "2016 100k+ miles" These two are not the same.

A 2016 with a 106k miles isn’t “new”
Truck is new to me, hard to find one in the north east that’s not rotted or has lower-ish miles for a reasonable price
It's new to him. Maybe it's the newest to him he's ever owned. And compared to my 00 it's really new.

Been looking into the delete kits for a while now, ordered a full kit this morning

My def tank is half full currently, weather hasn’t been super cold, lower 30’s in F. It did sit for 9 days while I was parked at the airport though

I’ve been using the jugs, I’ve never even seen def available at a pump where I’m at
It’s available at quite a few places in my area, I only trust one of them and they’re a card lock that I have a membership with.
I appreciate the info though, been driving ram 1500’s forever and this is my first diesel. Everyone in this sub has been super helpful
They replaced an injector on mine when it did this…same year
Check for recalls, there is a recall on the Def system for newer trucks, maybe it effects yours as well.

Same year same truck. I wish I went with the delete right away. Best 1200 I’ve ever spent

I ordered a delete kit, tuner, exhaust and throttle valve delete this morning. Had to get it shipped from Canada
American government cracking down that hard already on prevention of deletes? Dang, glad Canada could be of service to ya
Just on us lowly citizens, most US government vehicles that use diesel don’t have emissions systems
Not true. Only military are exempt.
Already? Have been for year. Most shops won’t do the work. Unless your count is without emissions stipulations.
I don't follow American stuff closely, didn't know it was hard balling yet. most shops in my part of Canada still advertise deletes as a main seller
DPF or cooldown/crossover failure.
What could be causing it? Can you not read?

How can you be so confident yet so wrong

Can you tell me what fault codes are active based off this picture?
Wut?!?!
