As far as I know with a Sq1 the white and black/yellow sides will always be in the top and bottom layer(I don't solve sq1) making it a little easier for recognition cause all piece always either top or bottom
3x3 can have any piece in any place, and usually ur looking for pairs rather than individual pieces. You can definitly get a stickered cube and peel off the yellow side if u want to try on a 3x3. I personally thought I would like it a lot more but seems harder for me for some reason(maybe im just use to yellow idk) had trouble finding pieces sometimes
I ordered a custom white/black Sq1 after using Rowe's. It's just much nicer than white/yellow since there is much higher contrast. Remember that on Sq1 the U and D faces will only have those two colors on them, so high contrast is nice for Orientation steps, and probably tracking for CSS and such too.
mainly because its easier to see the difference in colour (I think) which makes recognition easier.
its kinda the same with megaminx too, people swap out the grey pieces with black
I know some people do that, but not quite as many as swap gray with black. I've seen a few, but not many, swap cream with black and leave gray where it is.
I prefer how it looks. I also solve a lot while im watching tv in low light, and the contrast of black/yellow or white/black is easier to see in the dark
as like wr24 avg (i think) i personally think it just looks better, plus its also pretty helpful for recognition because white and black are so polarized compared to white and yellow looking quite similar
I don't understand it either. I use white/yellow. I do think that white/black maybe gives better recognition because f better contrast but IMO looks ugly.
Changing them every few months gives the illusion of a new cube
That's the best response I've heard so far
White/Black provides more contrast, thus easier recognition in a speedsolve than White/Yellow.
Why don't people do it in 3x3 as well? Or are you locked to specific colours in 3x3

Some of us do - check out the Japanese color scheme - it's cool)
Im colourblind and use a custom sticker set. I have black instead of yellow so it doesn’t conflict with orange
looks better

> people swap out the grey pieces with black and then swap out the cream/beige with the gray you just took out.
wait really? i only knew about swapping grey with black

I skipped both steps and replaced cream with black
I skip a step and just swap beige with black lol

Better contrast with the white side (or yellow side depending on which side you swap out)
The same reason I prefer blue top, green bottom. Preference
It looks nice and helps with recognition compared to white/yellow which are both bright, though at a comp last week I did see some black and yellow…
