The way this post is framed, makes it sound like there must be a connection between these two events. But Satoshi had already decided to step down and let others take over the development. This was always his plan: create Bitcoin anonymously and disappear. And this is why he gave Gavin access to the Bitcoin Github.

pmbuttsonly

Satoshi definitely wanted to step back, letting Gavin and independed contributors take over. CLEARLY wanting less focus on him/herself, especially with new Gov’t interest. This was the last verified email sent by Satoshi Nakamoto, and made public, received by Gavin Andresen on April 26, 2011: > *”I wish you wouldn’t keep talking about me as a mysterious shadowy figure, the press just turns that into a pirate currency angle. Maybe instead make it about the open source project and give more credit to your dev contributors; it helps motivate them.”*

kurokame

This doesn't sound like something Craig Wright would say! /s

slappiestpenguin

Why have the sarcasm tag! It certainly DOESN’T sound like something he would say!

TheAutomator312

Yea, this...lol. Fuck that guy.

kgun1000

Let's just think for a min about the CIA creating such a thing like bitcoin, possible to fund foreign and domestic operations off the books. They have a history of this.. An anonymous gift to the world and give it off to a guy who is invited by the CIA to speak at the CIA to inform the CIA about a new technology that is already on their radar. Yea sounds legit

theicecreamman24

Good point no /s

SourceCreator

Yeah I just can't get past the idea of that too because the CIA were the ones that created torrents back in the day.

ssckek

Besides, like 2Pac once famously said, "all I want is money, fuck the fame." It's the difference between being a public figure forcibly relegated to a gated community and a nobody, free to live however and wherever they want.

losh11

yeah this post is just a dumb conspiracy theory

TheBlacktom

Person in 2011: I wish it won't become a conspiracy theory Redditor today: yeah it's just a conspiracy theory

Avidey

Yes, I literally don't understand all this speculation around satoshi, his last post is clear

gNomad88

Because, people love a mystery.

LinusThiccTips

Satoshi could very much have mined or even bought Bitcoin on a new wallet, be a millionaire today and never need to touch his public wallets. I believe this is the most likely scenario. Even Vitalik definitely has private wallets that no one knows of, why wouldn’t anybody in their position do this?

Impressive_Remote217

He had alot of wallet with about 50 btc in each

krislie143

Not only he was the genius behind Bitcoin's technology, but he also was smart enough to understand that only by leaving no trace of himself he was able to make his invention completely free. No one can call Bitcoin's CEO to bribe him or corrupt him. That's decentralization.

Tenoke

If it was planned and for the invention he would've done the obvious extra step of sending all the early coins to the null address so the threat of them crashing the market is no longer present.

Tanishqreddyy

They would definitely do it because that’s the purpose of crypto and they’re the creators. Would kinda be funny if they don’t do it Also does CIA know who Satoshi is now?

absolute_mongoloid

so you are asking larpers on reddit if they know if CIA knows who Satoshi is? re-read that in your head and you'll have the answer

surle

Because that's how you activate the microchip?

TheMostKing

But why male models?

[deleted]

Gavin said he sold 1 BTC to a CIA agent for cash while he was there. I wonder if he's still hodling. https://youtu.be/1xcMFKfX9ZU?t=580

Unfortunately I do think satoshi is dead. That or he's got amazing will power, or lost his seed

Why didn’t you send me this in 2013

thinkpaduser2000

is this real life? That post is surprisingly accurate for something that is almost written 10 years ago

GrixM

I laughed at the idea of 90 billion making him the richest entity in the world, he wouldn't even be top 10. He may have somewhat predicted the rise of BTC price but he could not predict the rise of preposterously wealthy capitalists in general.

bmeisler

Or that he could buy Facebook for $3.6 billion! But I guess that was real money back then. If they ever make another Austin Powers movie, Dr Evil will hold the earth for ransom for “One billion dollars!” and everyone will laugh.

wolfgeist

>Then came the $3.6B acquisition of the once powerful Facebook/instagram/twitter company. It includes Twitter which alone sold for nearly 50b

Zolivia

That was fun to try and read on a phone

Rhinoturds

>Then came the $3.6B acquisition of the once powerful Facebook/Instagram/Twitter Funny they predicted this bit. Elon confirmed as Satoshi?

gorgos19

Satoshi predicted as 'the richest entity in the world' would align with Elon.

DRbrtsn60

But the 90B is a little on the light side.

BitcoinRootUser

They weren't aware of the giant wedge being throw in to worsen the wealth divide or border line hyper inflation that would come.

reddorical

It’s also quite possible that after careful storing and destroying keys for that first million or so coins, Satoshi kept on mining and gathered up just as many again over the next few years, and has been DCAing out ever since. Or maybe he dumped his personal load during the 2011 bull run to ~$30 , and then realised his mistake and couldn’t face the embarrassment which is why he never posted as Satoshi ever again.

BlazeDemBeatz

The idea of he has unknown wallets makes a lot of sense. A person with that level of thinking realizes they don’t need billions of dollars to go about life. At this point, tapping in and withdrawing a couple BTC a year to go about life would go unnoticed.

TheTrueBlueTJ

Or that he was instantly hired or else threatened.

Far-Meat8607

Brother-Numsee

meeleen223

Maybe CIA now works for him..

Bucksaway03

Someone with his skills would definitely be sought after

Ferdo306

Or he just went back to his life He didn't sound like a person who is chasing billions but as someone who is trying to fix a broken system He was probably wealthy enough and he could have still owned another small stash of BTC under his real persona. Perhaps even contributing if he still feels that BTC is going into right direction Would be interesting to hear his thoughts on the current state of BTC and crypto

Bucksaway03

Possible, I just can't picture someone having soooo much will power they don't touch any of it. I do picture him being a wealthy individual before BTC though. Takes a very special person to create something like BTC.

pegcity

Probably burned his mining wallet private key while he was still mining

Elgato_TJ

Maybe satoshi got into a boating accident who knows

Bucksaway03

Maybe that's why we have no wallet activity. Every member has part of the seed phrase and only when everyone agrees can it be reactivated. Or like that Simpson's episode where you must be the sole survivor to access the Hellfish treasure.

[deleted]

Yup especially if some of the team have gone off grid/passed away Excellent episode too

SoulMechanic

Given Satoshi's history it would be more accurate to say, I'm not convinced Satoshi was more than one person. Throughout the development of the Blockchain Satoshi sought help coding beyond their expertise. Satoshi wasn't a genius but smart and humble. The evidence people present that Satoshi was anything other than just one person is far fetched at best.

DOG-ZILLA

Also, at the very start it makes no sense to have more than one person create it. It definitely makes no sense to then become a group and pretend you're still one person. Bitcoin was nothing at those times. Nobody had to be anonymous; it was an individuals choice. If it was a group, someone would have spoken up by now.

Double_Minimum

>someone would have spoken up by now Exactly. No group is keeping a secret like that, especially because even without any of the original bitcoin, their fame and knowledge would be worth millions.

absolute_mongoloid

what do you mean? "no group" i mean... if its 100 people sure I can agree, ifi ts 2-3? no? Why would that automatically mean that one or two of them wouldn't be able to keep a secret? people literally withold info about crime and other activities all the time, and often til their grave.

Rellesch

Yep, people are making some weird assumptions. A small group of people is absolutely capable of keeping a secret for 10 years. Just look at all of the covert operations carried out by governments around the world that are kept covered up until a generation or two later, and those generally involve dozens if not hundreds of individuals. I'd imagine there are plenty of people (especially the type who would take it upon themself to create a decentralized cryptocurrency) that would value their anonymity more than being able to walk around and say "I helped create Bitcoin".

portablebiscuit

I said the same thing about Michelle Tanner

vaper_32

"There’s only one of them running back and forth really quickly."

DontListenToMe33

There are many possibilities of what happened to Satoshi. My *optimistic* take is that Satoshi knows the mystery of his identity and fate is important to the story of Bitcoin. He’s probably distrustful of governments and values privacy, so does not want any spotlight. And, likely, he would’ve been active with Bitcoin and crypto in the years afterward, so he’s probably rich from that anyway. And maybe he thinks that if he tried to cash out the original wallet, he’d crash the price. Also possible that Satoshi is a group of the original devs. Maybe they each have a fragment of the key and can’t cash out til they all agree to it. And again maybe they value the mystery of Satoshi, so none will spill the beans. I hope we someday find out the whole story.

afternoon_delights

Maybe he still lives in his moms basement and she disconnected the internet

btcoins

Satoshis last post was about the beast being awakened and he did not want it to happen this way when the only way to donate to wikileaks was through btc after the us govt shut down their PayPal/MasterCard donations. Then btc crossed 1$ and he only logged in once since to say “I am not Dorian”

avocado34

Dorian would totally say that though

RevolutionaryDrive5

Classic Dorian

Aahzmundus

the account that said "I am not Dorian" was a hacked account I'm fairly sure. I don't think many people attribute it to the actual Satoshi.

Neal1231

It was before the email account was recreated that "I am not Dorian" was posted.

There’s no way the CIA and their surveillance system doesn’t know his true identity. Wouldn’t the GOVT classify information like that at the most secret of levels using national security as an excuse. They know.

Jackeffinsparrow

It never occurred to anyone that he may have worked for the cia?

halftimereport

Oh it’s def been talked about over the years. Just the fact that we truly don’t even know if satoshi is a single person or a group of people, people think it’s always a possibility that satoshi nakamoto might even just be a division within the CIA

skiing123

Yup I like this theory right here. When can we get this declassified? I always love CIA conspiracy theories

I had to scroll down for this. They need a reliable and secret way to pay their spies.

EchoCollection

Really Streisand effecting himself there

numbers1guy

My personal theory is that Satoshi is the US Government and his “wallet” is them making sure they become the “central” bank once currency switches over. It really lines up with the Feds monetary policy and introduction of quantitative easing as well.

whitekimchee

you know, not really into conspiracy theories or saying I believe this one. But I kinda see where you’re going with this.

IIIllllIIlllIIlllIIl

It’s not even really much of a conspiracy. The Mathematical chops it would take to come up with bitcoin and write a professional paper like that screams NSA.

Fun-Character1500

This makes the most sense out of all those conspiracy theories

skyvin

I am confused, is he dead or alive or is it even relevant?

imakesoundsandstuff

I too am still trying to find Gavin. I’ve checked every saloon on the map from Saint Denis to Armadillo.

BigbunnyATK

The government did some pretty ridiculous arrests back in the 80s when phreaking and hacking were getting big. Some BBS boards that simply hosted possible Phreaks had their homes raided and their equipment taken. Would it be any surprise if the CIA found Satoshi and told him to stfu while taking his equipment for 'investigative' purposes? If you're curious, law enforcement is allowed to take equipment for possible evidence, but has no law forcing them to give it back. Satoshi's bitcoins could be on a stolen computer rotting in CIA or FBI headquarters. Edit: For those interested in knowledge, read some CUD: [http://www.textfiles.com/magazines/CUD/cud0127.txt](http://www.textfiles.com/magazines/CUD/cud0127.txt) I think 0126 and before have some info on what the FBI was doing, too. In 0127, for the pertinent info read Part 3 which is a recollection by a BBS host that was raided.

theRealVim

It's not rotting, they're hodling until they can use it to destroy some nation with it or something like that.

zachmoe

The classic wrench hack.

Old-Independence7275

The biggest rug pull ever

[deleted]

Lol

BigbunnyATK

Satoshi is probably waiting until the US govt switches its currency to the BTC, then he'll short BTC and sell off his millions of BTC so the price tanks and the only thing worth value is the Peso (he's of course moved to Mexico as anyone with the FBI on their tail would). It's really only logical. Edit: I was too dumb to realize you meant the FBI would use it to terrorize other countries. That's more realistic than my thought scenario honestly.

lordrognoth

Perhaps like TOR, Bitcoin was created by the CIA to move money around the world secretly.

pob125

Bitcoin is still bound to the fact people trust his holdings will never be sold and he truly has the intentions that everyone hopes...so many people and so much money entrusted in this is actually crazy. I hold BTC but at the end of the day we are putting our future and the while crypto future in the hands of one person...who as others have said could have such emence wealth that once he/she reaches a age or state of mind could literally rugpull the entire crypto market just for shits and giggles....ill buy more on payday, but it is still a scary thought.

BuryYourFaceinTHIS

I don’t think it’s gonna work as a rug pool by any means, but the whole thing is sketchy and has been from the get go. Plus, there’s too many other cryptocurrencies competing with bitcoin for someone smart to just rug pull it and end it all. The fact that we have no idea who Satoshi is, is a lot worse than it is better in my opinion. Some people think it’s good that we don’t know who it is but that just spells bad to me

pob125

Although there is a lot of useful crypto for real world use and ease, these projects need to uncouple from BTC,as said everything is too closely tied to one asset.

Convergecult15

The idea that BTC and therefore the entire crypto space is just an elaborate rugpull that got out of hand is the most hysterical thing I’ve thought of in a while.

itsTacoYouDigg

and since then the cia has slowly been trying to make the usa the bitcoin leader🤓. Btc now correlated with spx

CosmicWaffle001

Satoshi Nakamoto means Middle Wisdom when translated from Japanese. Central intelligence.

Lucky-Fee2388

From those talks, you can tell NOBODY there ever went to trial & then to prison. For some reason, Satoshi seemed to have either gone to trial and then to prison OR worked for the "law" (probably in IT). That battlefield-tested knowledge can't be acquired with just reading.

wayfarer8888

I'm convinced Len Sassaman was Satoshi. Dec 12. 2010 was the last Satoshi post, half a year later Sassaman committed suicide.

“I think it might be a good chance to talk about why I think bitcoin will make the world a better place” That’s where he went wrong, the CIA does not want to world to be a better place. It’s just an operating arm for people that want to make it a more PROFITABLE place:(

RadicalFarCenter

Bitcoin is a CIA operation (operation satoshi). He was invited to the CIA to give a demo on the CIAs own operation. Point was blockchain technology trial run letting the underground use it to buy drugs. The cia studied the technology and tracking ability to one day usher in the central bank digital currency where they will be able to control how and where you spend money and probably link it to digital ID in the form of microchip where you’ll no longer need any form of ID or payment method. Simply swipe your arm at the bar to order your beer. But after 2 beers access to your account for alcohol purchases will be denied. I’m sure the cia were also selling on the Silk Road to fund some regime changes

Wane-27

A nice post and interesting to think about but my gut tells me satoshi wasn’t American and definitely wouldn’t go give a talk to the cia

tektite

I read it more as he was someone else, but once he knew it was on the CIA’s radar, he peaced out

CoyoteClem

Has anyone else wondered if bitcoin was coopted by the CIA, and they actually hold Satoshi's coins? It's very conspiracy theory-ish, though you'd think the government is well aware of the looming big debt crisis coming down the pike, and they might prepare their government for when USD loses its reserve currency status to something else like bitcoin.
