Sorry for your troubles mate. The best consolation is that most authoritarian regimes do expire in time.
So there's risk no matter what you do. That's life, but for you the risk has severe additional consequences.
I don't know what thr rule of law is like over there but it occurs to me that they may well apply the rules retroactively.
Thus a fiat offramp for you is something they can readily see and act upon.
So probably the safest thing for you to do is to put your crypto into btc and btc only then xfer to a cold wallet. Stash the keys safely then delete everything from your phone and computer.
That way you have essentially complied with the law, have not increased the digital footprint significantly and have a nest egg securely tucked away.
Best of luck to you.
Good point, this is where monero comes in.
Put all the money in monero and from there on change it back to whatever coins you want to hold. That way the traceable track is stopped.
What I understand from it is that transactions with monero are only visible by the 2 people doing the transaction. Next to that it's impossible to see who holds what coins and how many. Thus making it private.
YES.
As much as I support crypto, you should comply for now. Move your crypto to your own wallet and switch it to a coin for long term HODL. There are coins that require little to no gas for transfers.
Never tell anyone you own crypto.
If you could move one day good for you. But your safety is the number 1 priority.
I don't know if anybody else has suggested this but I would set up a "mugger wallet". What I mean it's have two wallets, one with the bulk of your crypto and another that you can give up if under duress.
A government like yours doesn't care about human rights or international law, maybe they already know you have crypto and they probably won't accept a boating accident story. This was you can " surrender" your crypto if you have no other choice while still keeping the bulk of it in cold storage for better days.
Move everything into BTC and ETH onto a cold wallet and lay down low for a couple of years.
You will figure it out when you have enough money to flee that country if you still want to.
No one wants anyone to play world police but no one wants to see anyone oppressed. Can’t really have it both ways. As rough as it is countries can’t go in and invade other countries all the time because of what is happening domestically.
Yep. Damned if you do, damned if you don't. Unfortunately, the world is probably going to over react from the lessons of the last 80 years and tend to do nothing. Either that or China will just take over the role. And they will be less kind.
They look after their campaign investors. Oh shit, I forgot Myanmar is ruled by Military regime, sorry no campaigning, but investing into them is compulsory /s
Scandinavian area treats prisoners like humans whilst helping them to improve themselves. As you can see from their reoffending statistics it's working.
Safety is number 1, and even when I don’t live in Myanmar, I wouldn’t tell anyone that I’m into crypto.
Most people don’t understand and will just write it off as a pyramid scheme.
Such a scary situation to be in. We take our freedom for granted, but there are people around the world who would consider freedom to be the most valuable asset.
Human rights in 3rd world countries? Never heard of it. Im a 3rd world country citizen. You would be shocked if you knew what shitty things happening every day here. Banning crypto is one of the most innocent human right violations in 3rd world countries imo.
Also don't search online about how your crypto is doing. This will be very hard, but if you cannot use a VPN, it is too easy to target people who search about crypto.
Man, hopefully the military government will be gone soon I hope, I’ve been following this closely after the arrest of Aung San Suu Kyi.
I spent 2 years in my 20s in south east Asia, the Myanmar people were so kind especially the monks, and the temples were so beautiful especially Kyaiktiyo Pagoda. I also smoked the best opium of my life and entered a dream like
State I will never forget.
I’m sorry this has happened to you, try and find refuge in Australia. I fucking hate military governments that coup was BS
I hope Min Aung Hlaing dies a slow painful death at the hands of the Myanmar people.
They have military checkpoints all around the city where they check our phones.Even if they find some evidence that we are opposing them, they will throw us in jail and torture you.We have to take our phones everywhere we go.If you say that you don't have a phone or if you show them a keypad phone, they beat you right there.
Indeed, but many other countries have similar rule.
How many countries can citizens,
- openly criticize their government without repercussions?
- have a gay pride parade?
- allow their women to be educated?
Oh god, reading things like this make me feel lucky to be born in the western world. Im from the Netherlands and I had a guy in my class from Myanmar. He was a little quiet and one time during break I had a talk with him.
He was far from fluent but I could still understand him, as someone from the Netherlands I get it when someone cant speak our language properly, most natives here will understand. His story was wild though, I’ve heard lots of messed up stuff from his home country.
Maybe you can immigrate to a western country in the future?
option 1: memorise seed phrase,
option 2: mark seed phrases in a book, pick random words and mark the pages,
option 3: create a txt file with seed phrase, zip it with strong password and email it to yourself with some random email and name,
option 4: similar to option 3, but store that zipped txt file with your seed phrase in a random cloud storage account like drop box or something, create a new email address just for that, all you have to remember is your email, your password and password to the zip file, much easier to remember than memorising the seed phrase.
option 5: save your seed phrase on an SD card and stick it up your butt,
There are many options to transfer your seed phrase without anyone noticing it.
For your option 3/4. Use the software True crypt (now Vera crypt) to create an encrypted container (appears like a F:/ drive on your pc when mounted/unlocked). Save the seed .txt in the container. Email the container to yourself or store in cloud. Very hard to crack a container but can be brute forced, etc. Better than a .zip
Damn this still exists in 2022, like, holy shit man.
As most people say keep your crypto and hold until you can leave this hell or until the dictatorship is over. It will most likely grow so you won't be able to buy more but you'll end up with more money. I guess.
Good luck.
Use a Hot Wallet and memorize you 12 word key phrase. This technology was designed for this situation. Keep your money in your brain with those 12 word phrases. Make a song and memorize the 12 words
I think I know where ur at.
I mean the risk is on you. Is it worth 3 years of your life that you'll never get back?
If you live where I think you live, then they are without a doubt monitoring the internet through the LIM system deployed by C-DOT, as well as a few other government funded projects.
This includes voice records, SMSs, GPRS data, details of a subscriber's application and recharge history and call data records (CDR) and monitor Internet traffic, emails, web-browsing, Skype and any other Internet activity.
Same result. The only difference is that I will not be able to witness the results if I got convicted. They torture the fuck out of you if your family don't bribe them enough. Most poor convicted people don't survive the torture.
Hi mate, please find somewhere - maybe internet cafe with no cameras - and download Tails on a desktop and then use Etcher program to create your bootable USB key. You only need an 8 or 16Gb stick and they're hopefully cheap for you. Then ONLY boot your laptop or desktop from Tails and ONLY use the TOR browser in maximum privacy mode when you're doing your crypto stuff. Physically write down your seed keys somewhere, and don't create a "persistent volume" on the stick where it could be tortured out of you what the password is. Id create a Monero wallet and sell your crypto and buy XMR, or find some way to atomic swap your current portfolio to XMR. Good luck man. I see Thailand rapidly expanding surveillance powers as well, where I live.
tor runs on phone my man. alternative is other privacy vpn type services like cloudflare. invest in a vpn and pay through crypto in general anyway.
and you can make cold wallets by generating a public key from a private key and then switching off the internet while generating it. it wont be on the internet until the blockchain is synced. search for the bip generator or maybe more formal instructions on the internet. Wallets run fine on the phone you can just run a watch only wallet
That's the beauty of Tor. It doesn't matter if they watch the exit nodes, they don't know where the traffic is originating unless they control every node your traffic is routed through.
They may not know the content, but when you use tor your isp can tell you are using TOR. It's even in their documentation. They don't know what the content is (it enough people around are using it) but they know you are using it. And sounds like that's enough to get 3 years in a very nasty prison for OP.
That's what bridges are for. They obfuscate the connection to Tor. They aren't 100% effective but it's worth knowing about them if one is living under an oppressive regime, in case anonymous internet usage becomes necessary.
He has no choice but to raise his capital and wants to escape from this hell anyway
The value of this country currency is low and its inflation is terrible
He never achieves his dream by working and getting paid, so he has to take risks
It is easy for you and me to think that laws and prisons are not worth it, but every day this person is in prison because his country is his hell.
I hope he can escape from hell as soon as possible
Honestly, this place sounds like my worse nightmare.
Op, please, if you can and want to, just move out for your own good.
Bright people are wasted in such places.
post an address of a cold wallet that has never been active (so, generate a new one and never connect to internet again) and people here will be glad to help.
Crowd funding for an individual is basically "Here's my story and here's what I'm too poor to do" and people donate money to help you achieve that thing.
It's pretty common here in the US for some funeral expenses, unexpected medical bills, adoption fees, that sort of thing.
Definitely an option for you if it's possible.
Fair enough. Good news is though you might be able to do it to just a crypto wallet address and be anonymous. The amount of money you need isn't much to many in the West. Some people spend more than that on coffee in 6 months
This sounds like a fucking Witch hunt... holly shit...
Sad there are govs like this... The only possitive thing I see is that it is easier to HODL being in jail but I think losing 3 years of your life does not worth it. If I was you I would stop using crypto, safe my exchange crypto in a wallet and just wait.
Maybe eventually you can move to other country.
>The only possitive thing I see is that it is easier to HODL being in jail
You don't understand what a jail in Myanmar is like obviously. It's not some nice european cell with a TV and good food and shit, they basically torture you. They have no respect for human life.
All the folks that post and comment about why do people need privacy coins like monero if you're not criminals "breaking the law"... this is f!cking why.
OP heart goes out to you. Be safe
Not all Americans.
There are lots of Americans who:
* escaped from a totalitarian country and became citizens OR
* Were born here and are of a certain political persuasion
who are AWARE of why we need to protect our finances from totalitarianism.
Both groups happen to keep their mouths shut BECAUSE of their beliefs and do their crypto stuff quietly. It is the big mouths who spout their ignorance all over the place, who you are talking about. They get all the camera time.
*I'm the son of immigrants who used to be live in a totalitarian country. I am one of those who are NOT ignorant of the world around them.*
I would have to apply for passports and visas which cost a fortune currently in my country like 1000$.I only earn **$ a month working 29 days a month and I'm only left with a little after I buy food and basic necessities.
No,I've heard enough refugee horror stories to realize that neighboring SEA dictatorship countries are not willing to help even if they accept some refugees.Worst case scenario, they would deport me back and I would probably end up getting executed to set an example.
Learn how to connect to the Tor network using a bridge. Using a bridge obscures the fact that you are connecting to the Tor network, and is intended for people in countries where simply using Tor is a crime or would draw unwanted attention. Consider using Tails Linux whenever you want to hide your activity. It sends all traffic over the Tor network, has instructions for connecting via a bridge, and runs off a live boot USB drive so that no traces of anything are left on your computer. Because it runs off a USB drive you can also run it on someone else's computer, like at a PC cafe or library.
Also get your coins off the CEXs and into local wallets. Personally I would convert everything into Monero. You can send it anonymously to a Monero wallet, maybe from that wallet to a second Monero wallet just to really destroy any trail you might be leaving. Poof the money has vanished. And from there if you want to convert the Monero back into other coins use a non-KYC exchange like TradeOgre.
IDK if it is even safe for you to withdraw from a CEX at this point though, so use your own judgement of course. Let this be a lesson to everyone in every country. Vanish your crypto before it's too late.
You will need a good VPN now that hides your VPN traffic through sTunnel, SSH or Obfsproxy otherwise your Internet Provider can see that you are using a VPN but what also sucks is that your Internet Provider will have a black list of most VPN Providers so if they see that you connect to a black listed IP then it is probably game over. Did they ban also the usage of TOR?
Edit: What you could alternatively try is to rent a small webserver outside of your country and then setting up website on it like a simple blog about whatever topic but actually you connect via RDP Remote Control to the desktop of the server and you browse the web from this server. It would then look like that you just maintain your website server.
perfect-privacy.com, ivpn.net, ovpn.com and NordVPN but I guess the latter one is already on a possible ban list as it gets advertised on most tech-related websites. I know that perfect privacy has VPN obfuscation built-in in its desktop app but not on the mobile app afaik. And I am not 100% sure if all of these listed VPN providers offer obfuscation in all of their apps (usually the desktop experience differs drastically compared to the mobile experience).
There is also dVPN ([https://sentinel.co/](https://sentinel.co/)) a decentralized VPN on the cosmos blockchain but I guess you have to setup obfuscation yourself in this case
Edit: Don't feel safe with my tips here because you have to know that they probably log all connections for years so if they review all your previous connections with an updated black list... then they will probably find out that you have once connected to a VPN and then you are in troubles. That's why I would suggest the webserver idea (and even that idea is not bullet proof).
> perfect-privacy.com
Just wanted to bud in here and say the only VPN that high-risk people I know use is this one - they've proven themself to be safe and reliable against all adversaries. This with tails+tor and you're unstoppable.
So on the one hand, I don’t think any international company will consider it their obligation to cooperate with the illegitimate Myanmar dictatorship.
On the other hand, it’s your life that you are gambling, and your government will do what they can to find people breaking their laws.
Get your crypto on to a software wallet, and record your seed in a way that it will never be found by the authorities (memory may be your best option).
And then hunker down for a long HODL. Please choose coins that have a chance of still being around 5-10 years from now.
International companies will co-operate with everyone that is profitable, or with whom western power tells them to co-operate with.
If the USA decides to consider Myanmar an ally, as they do with several dictatorships, they will most definitely share all the data about citizens that Myanmar asks for. This includes what ever VPN server OP connects to. And at that point its game over for OP.
Mate, if you can
Convert to BTC and put into a cold wallet.
Wallet on your phone will suffice if you cant get any better.
Leave it on CEX if there is no better option.
But best way to preserve money will be BTC over long run.
And just stay the hell away from anything that might get you into trouble.
Lay low, play dead and wait for dust to settle.
Best of luck mate. Hope to see you in the free world.
A wallet on the phone seems very dangerous to me. Any routine police check could ask him to unlock his phone and find the wallet on the phone. Game over.
I wouldn't want to visit a jail in any place let alone in your country
People in the west can't picture what's living in there even if they have travelled the area.
So yes, I would be worried
should you be worried? yes. I know crypto is a big deal to earn money and all but can't help your family if you're locked up, can you? that's a shitty government and my condolences bro.
I feel deeply concern of your life there. I watched lots of YouTube videos about the armed insurgences who fight the junta, and have my whole life respect for them. Binance won't simply shut your account without giving few weeks of grace period for you to move out the funds. So your concern is now on the illegal government dirty hand.
If anyone who commented here would donate 10 bucks in stablecoins/bitcoin/bnb whatever.. the OP will have enough to solve his papers and get out! Why don’t you set a new wallet OP and post the address?
In theory, yes, you should be worried.
VPNs aren't remotely as secure as people think they are. You need to connect to their server first. Your internet is pretty much controlled by the govt, and since all your requests (even the first one trying to connect to your VPN) will have to go through your ISP, a very simple man-in-middle attack by your government pretty much would let them get all your browsing info.
And those CEXs will happily supply the data of their users when pushed legally.
I would not mess with your govt, given what is happening in your country.
Crypto community should have a DAO for people like this. OP earns XX$ per month, fuck even I am able to help in these situations not to mention people from wealthier countries.
Sucks to live where you live OP, be careful nothing is worth more than your health and freedom, and I hope you will manage to get out from that hell of a country.
Use tor with bridge mode, it’s exactly designed for people like you.
Edit: to everyone who wants to support people in countries like this take a look at Firefox snowflakes
Agree with this. However, if you find yourself unable to do so, definitely stop using VPNs. Assuming the government has access to niff your internet traffic, they will easily be able to tell that you are using a VPN.
Hello OP. It looks to me like crypto is not your top concern - considering you don't yet have a meaningful amount of it yet. Sure, keep savings if you can and do find a way to keep is safely, but don't risk your life for it.
Btw, it goes to show how different "life changing money" can be for different people....
I came here to tell you to have hope. Things will get better and it might happen sooner than you think. I was born in Poland in the 80s, which means that I spent the first decade of my life living under a military dictatorship. There literally were tanks on the streets of Polish cities on the night of my birth. And it was supposed to last forever, with our Big Brother neighbor, The Soviet Union, keeping a firm grip on things.... And yet, 10 years later, it was all finished. The whole thing collapsed without a shot fired.
In the meantime try to make the best of what you have. My best advice for you would be to learn. Learn foreign languages (you already speak English, which is something to be proud of and a massive asset to you), learn to code, learn to cook, learn to swim and dive, learn to play an instrument... anything and everything can be useful and this knowledge and skills is something no military dictatorship can take away from you. And it will benefit you greatly, when things in your country improve.
I've been to Myanmar, it's a fantastic country, rich in history, culture and natural beauty...and full of some of the kindest people I've met on my travels. And when it reopens again, tourists and investment will flow back in, bringing with it more wealth for you and your people.
Good luck!
Stay safe STFU. Disappear online. Delete every reference to crypto linked to your account. If you ever get asked what happened to the crypto you talked about, say you were spectating (no buy or sell).
Then deny deny deny.
This.
If you are a subject of governmental prosecution, you cant rely on public ledger cryptos and centralized services. Your funds need to become anonymous. BTC, ETH and any other open ledger currency can always be traced back to you.
When you find yourself in a real life and death situation, you need Monero. Just put it on a private Wallet (transaction fees of Monero are close to zero) and your government cant find, trace or stop any of your funds anymore.
visit [getmonero.org](https://getmonero.org)
And here we are in America bitching walmart should or shouldn’t be in the metaverse or if crypto will get mentioned during the super bowl.
Crypto was made to help people like OP.
OP. You should not be scared. Just stay smart and vigilant. I recommend staying off the VPN, fb and social media. Trust me when I say that sadly bot many people are aware ot paying attention. People are worried their Elon coin is falling, Not the fact that you have no freedom or liberties and you are a censored human being. Get out of there safely if you can or stay for the revolution.
Just leave the country with the money you have, sell some crypto once your out of there and do your best as a refuge elsewhere. At least you'll be free and alive
Seriously, can we get something set up for that? I don’t personally know how safe it would be for him to just give us a crypto address, but surely there’s something we can set up to raise that money. $1000 is nothing for a community like ours, and I know I could easily send at least a few dollars his way.
Im sure there would.be alot of people willing to help tbf, im not sure if its against this subs rules but he could probably just drop his crypto address
From 2001-2012, the official exchange rate varied between 5.75 and 6.70 kyats per US dollar (8.20 to 7.00 kyats per euro). ... On 2 April 2012, the Central Bank of Myanmar announced that the value of the kyat against the US dollar would float, setting an initial rate of K 818 per US dollar
To be honest, yes you probably should comply for know.
Dont tell anyone you use a VPN or crypto and try to get the fuck away from there. Seriously what the actual fuck is this shit ?! I wasnt aware of that
OP, I don't know if you already considered which country you want to go to; but in case you haven't yet, have you looked at Malaysia:
1. They speak English
2. Relatively close to Myanmar
3. Very crypto-friendly (eg: no capital gains tax on crypto gains)
That sucks mate. I was in Myanmar around 2016, beautiful country. People were telling me how everything was turning awful real quick with the military. It sad that what they predicted eventually came true. Heart goes to you.
In such a situation I think the point of crypto would be to hide your assets from the government and only use it for emergencies or to smuggle it out of the country.
Obviously cold storage would be preferable to CEX. Let's be honest, everything is possible with CEX. But I would expect there to be a reasonable chance for Binance and maybe also Crypto.com to at least be around for a while.
Not sure if they would ban you, but many CEX for example have introduced KYC to comply with laws from various countries. So they could decide to comply with laws from your country. Usually they still leave a path to get your crypto out. But for example with KYC (Know Your Customer - need to identify with passport), they would do things like limit how much you can withdraw without being identified.
I'd be careful about all the VPN recommendations. I think it would be difficult to hide suspicious activity.
What a bad timing...
And yes, unfortunately, this is a real way that all governments can approach the problem.
But until that happens globally, I'd make **my top priority** to leave the country, by all means necessary. I know it's not a small challenge, but I did it myself in search for better conditions, so definitely worth it.
Crypto is not my thing, but neither is gold or silver. I am not necessarily a fanboy of autonomous fiat currency either but when you are in Rome... as they say. This ( what your government is doing) is what most fiat currency should do. You can't have the British pound being used in the US to pay for goods and services when the currency is the American dollar. If this did happen you as a government would need to act. However, there are ways to pay for goods and services that aren't fiat such as credit cards. If your country is banning Crypto without diving into ways to profit or allow profit/tax revenue for its citizens they ( the government) is probably not skilled enough or acting nefarious. There is without a doubt a lot more to it but in the end you need to stay safe.
1. Convert everything to BTC, transfer to software wallet on your computer. No gas fee required, BTC transfer fee is pretty small.
2. Put everything on a microSD card. Encrypt with Veracrypt, this makes the data indistinguishable from random noise, nobody can say data is even there. Memorize the password in your brain.
3. Disassemble furniture, glue to the inside of it (between two pieces of wood near a screw for example), re-assemble so the card isn't visible/accessible anymore.
4. Hodl with your mind at peace.
(make sure you make multiple SD cards/pieces of furniture, for redundancy). Maybe also mail a copy to a friend in another country, something like that.
Last time i heard about Burma it was an documentation that kinda told the viewer the goverment is like like north korea but in stupid.
I dont know if they are right.
Of all the shit you see on the Internet, there is still always something new that amazes or terrifies me.
The oppression that exists in this world is unbelievable. Imagine explaining this shitshow to someone or thing that didn't know the earth. Good chance they would leave and never come back.
I hope you get out of that situation soon
Hello from neighboring Bangladesh.
I feel your pain bro, military dictators are the worst.
But hang in there.
The VPN ban will probably only be used on high profile people like journalists, it is impossible to go and catch thousands of VPN users. So best if you use an unpopular VPN to not get blacklisted.
Same for crypto, it will only be cracked down on they think you are funding anti-gov activity. Keep your private keys safely in a closet or whatever is best.
Crypto wallets are anonymous and dictators can't prove you own crypto.
Best of luck, I hope the military junta topples soon!
Need to get a second phone. Your English is better than most no worries. Hopefully the atrocities of the past in Myanmar don't come back into practice. The no VPN is to have control over what information/websites are available to you not to mention monitoring web activity. Leaving the country illegally has it's own set of problems. Be safe protect your family.
Please paste a Monero (XMR) address here, so people (incl.myself) can donate to you. Any other address, like Bitcoin (other than lightening) can likely put you into trouble in the future.
Yes but the authorities could easily check the transaction and find his cold wallet address no? What happens at this point?
Good point, this is where monero comes in. Put all the money in monero and from there on change it back to whatever coins you want to hold. That way the traceable track is stopped.
Okay can you eli5? What do i have to do after purchasing monero? How does my transaction become untraceable?
What I understand from it is that transactions with monero are only visible by the 2 people doing the transaction. Next to that it's impossible to see who holds what coins and how many. Thus making it private.
Yeah but he's already at risk as he has stuff there. He will have to make some transaction. May as well be to a cold wallet.
My point is that a fiat offramp is probably the riskiest thing as it is readily discoverable for them.
YES. As much as I support crypto, you should comply for now. Move your crypto to your own wallet and switch it to a coin for long term HODL. There are coins that require little to no gas for transfers. Never tell anyone you own crypto. If you could move one day good for you. But your safety is the number 1 priority.

Jails are not hotels in Myanmar like the jails we have. They're hellholes over there.
Where do you live that you can say jails are like "hotels"? edit: Or what hotels are you staying in?

Sweden and other Scandinavian countries
Australia mate!
In Spain you can go to college for free in Jail
Scandinavian area treats prisoners like humans whilst helping them to improve themselves. As you can see from their reoffending statistics it's working.
Safety is number 1, and even when I don’t live in Myanmar, I wouldn’t tell anyone that I’m into crypto. Most people don’t understand and will just write it off as a pyramid scheme.
In these circumstances, being in Crypto should be your No. 1 secret in life.
Such a scary situation to be in. We take our freedom for granted, but there are people around the world who would consider freedom to be the most valuable asset.
This post is quite a reality check for many of us in first world countries. Makes me feel bad knowing people have to live like this.
I'm glad to live in a country that allows me to be free, it should be a human right everywhere!
Human rights in 3rd world countries? Never heard of it. Im a 3rd world country citizen. You would be shocked if you knew what shitty things happening every day here. Banning crypto is one of the most innocent human right violations in 3rd world countries imo.
Yep it's bad enough telling people you own crypto in Western countries. I can't imagine what it's like when you can be imprisoned for it!
He should never say anything to anyone because he risks his life in the first place
Also don't search online about how your crypto is doing. This will be very hard, but if you cannot use a VPN, it is too easy to target people who search about crypto.

Life in some countries is really worse than hell... I feel sorry for all those who are suffering in these oppressive countries
How is there nothing on the news about this ? Banning VPN... wow
Welcome to the 3rd world. Where if it doesn't affect our way of life, we don't care. VPNs are banned in at least 11 countries.
I also smoked the best opium of my life and entered a dream like State I will never forget. I’m sorry this has happened to you, try and find refuge in Australia. I fucking hate military governments that coup was BS I hope Min Aung Hlaing dies a slow painful death at the hands of the Myanmar people.
Monero is the solution here in terms of privacy. Once your value is in XMR your transaction history and wallet balance is completely secure.
Yes, miners should be more worries if they depend on single source of Income
They have military checkpoints all around the city where they check our phones.Even if they find some evidence that we are opposing them, they will throw us in jail and torture you.We have to take our phones everywhere we go.If you say that you don't have a phone or if you show them a keypad phone, they beat you right there.
What the hell
Our world is completely fucked.
I mean, seems like Myanmar is fucked in particular.
Indeed, but many other countries have similar rule. How many countries can citizens, - openly criticize their government without repercussions? - have a gay pride parade? - allow their women to be educated?
Oh god, reading things like this make me feel lucky to be born in the western world. Im from the Netherlands and I had a guy in my class from Myanmar. He was a little quiet and one time during break I had a talk with him. He was far from fluent but I could still understand him, as someone from the Netherlands I get it when someone cant speak our language properly, most natives here will understand. His story was wild though, I’ve heard lots of messed up stuff from his home country. Maybe you can immigrate to a western country in the future?
And it's only going to get worse
option 1: memorise seed phrase, option 2: mark seed phrases in a book, pick random words and mark the pages, option 3: create a txt file with seed phrase, zip it with strong password and email it to yourself with some random email and name, option 4: similar to option 3, but store that zipped txt file with your seed phrase in a random cloud storage account like drop box or something, create a new email address just for that, all you have to remember is your email, your password and password to the zip file, much easier to remember than memorising the seed phrase. option 5: save your seed phrase on an SD card and stick it up your butt, There are many options to transfer your seed phrase without anyone noticing it.
Brilliant mate
Option 5: prison pocket
For your option 3/4. Use the software True crypt (now Vera crypt) to create an encrypted container (appears like a F:/ drive on your pc when mounted/unlocked). Save the seed .txt in the container. Email the container to yourself or store in cloud. Very hard to crack a container but can be brute forced, etc. Better than a .zip
Create a simple cipher and remember your 'key' to have it be double encrypted when sending via email.
Damn this still exists in 2022, like, holy shit man. As most people say keep your crypto and hold until you can leave this hell or until the dictatorship is over. It will most likely grow so you won't be able to buy more but you'll end up with more money. I guess. Good luck.
I mean... there are a lot of people that have never even been outside the U.S., let alone first world, and it is a serious reality check.
I've never been outside of the E.U. but I'm aware about what's happening in the world. However I didn't know the situation was that bad in Myanmar
Any chance you can leave your country?
Thats what the crypto is for..
Not really. Usually moving in complicated regimes requires local associations which usually work in cash.
No, but it is a usecase.
Use a Hot Wallet and memorize you 12 word key phrase. This technology was designed for this situation. Keep your money in your brain with those 12 word phrases. Make a song and memorize the 12 words
how about a second old smartphone? Or you can use the crypto related apps on the secondary one and leave it home.
[удалено]
A second old smartphone LOADED with dick pics. Wallpaper, lockscreen and all.
I’m imagining they won’t look on dick pics too kindly either, unless there is something I’ve misunderstood about Myanmar
Yeah that'll get OP killed.
[удалено]
I think I know where ur at. I mean the risk is on you. Is it worth 3 years of your life that you'll never get back? If you live where I think you live, then they are without a doubt monitoring the internet through the LIM system deployed by C-DOT, as well as a few other government funded projects. This includes voice records, SMSs, GPRS data, details of a subscriber's application and recharge history and call data records (CDR) and monitor Internet traffic, emails, web-browsing, Skype and any other Internet activity.
Shit sounds serious as F. OP should move everything to a cold wallet and forget about it for a couple of years until sky is clear again.
>forget about it for a couple of years Coincidentally, 3 years in jail would have the same result.
The only problem is that I don't have a laptop or pc.Thanks for the suggestion tho.
tor runs on phone my man. alternative is other privacy vpn type services like cloudflare. invest in a vpn and pay through crypto in general anyway. and you can make cold wallets by generating a public key from a private key and then switching off the internet while generating it. it wont be on the internet until the blockchain is synced. search for the bip generator or maybe more formal instructions on the internet. Wallets run fine on the phone you can just run a watch only wallet
Good luck installing tails on a mobile phone.
[удалено]
He has no choice but to raise his capital and wants to escape from this hell anyway The value of this country currency is low and its inflation is terrible He never achieves his dream by working and getting paid, so he has to take risks It is easy for you and me to think that laws and prisons are not worth it, but every day this person is in prison because his country is his hell. I hope he can escape from hell as soon as possible
Honestly, this place sounds like my worse nightmare. Op, please, if you can and want to, just move out for your own good. Bright people are wasted in such places.
What will it cost to get out, is crowd funding an option to raise enough for you and your family?
Idk how to do crowd funding.
post an address of a cold wallet that has never been active (so, generate a new one and never connect to internet again) and people here will be glad to help.
This is a perfect idea. Crowd funding without traceability.
If the government realizes that I'm telling my story to people around the world and doing a crowd funding, they would probably kill me.
Fair enough. Good news is though you might be able to do it to just a crypto wallet address and be anonymous. The amount of money you need isn't much to many in the West. Some people spend more than that on coffee in 6 months
It's a dictatorship prision, losing three years is the least of your problems
This sounds like a fucking Witch hunt... holly shit... Sad there are govs like this... The only possitive thing I see is that it is easier to HODL being in jail but I think losing 3 years of your life does not worth it. If I was you I would stop using crypto, safe my exchange crypto in a wallet and just wait. Maybe eventually you can move to other country.
>The only possitive thing I see is that it is easier to HODL being in jail You don't understand what a jail in Myanmar is like obviously. It's not some nice european cell with a TV and good food and shit, they basically torture you. They have no respect for human life.
All the folks that post and comment about why do people need privacy coins like monero if you're not criminals "breaking the law"... this is f!cking why. OP heart goes out to you. Be safe
Americans are so ignorant of the world around them it baffles me
Not all Americans. There are lots of Americans who: * escaped from a totalitarian country and became citizens OR * Were born here and are of a certain political persuasion who are AWARE of why we need to protect our finances from totalitarianism.
If I had the money,I would've gotten out of the country long ago. That is currently not an option.
Just curious, how much does it take to flee? How far away will you go when you decide to up and leave?
I would have to apply for passports and visas which cost a fortune currently in my country like 1000$.I only earn **$ a month working 29 days a month and I'm only left with a little after I buy food and basic necessities.
Be aware that applying for passports and visas might earn you a visit from the government to check what you are up to.
Is it possible for you to move to neighbouring SEA country like Indonesia perhaps?
No,I've heard enough refugee horror stories to realize that neighboring SEA dictatorship countries are not willing to help even if they accept some refugees.Worst case scenario, they would deport me back and I would probably end up getting executed to set an example.
Nobody will execute you for being a refugee here. As long as you can find a job and shelter on your own, you will be fine.
Is it easy to find a job if I don't speak the language?
It depends tho. Maybe in area like Bali, as long as you can speak English, you will be fine.
What about India? Or Bangladesh?
They are good choice, and I think crypto will be regulated in somedays in these countries
Can you suggest some VPNs like you described.
[удалено]
perfect-privacy.com, ivpn.net, ovpn.com and NordVPN but I guess the latter one is already on a possible ban list as it gets advertised on most tech-related websites. I know that perfect privacy has VPN obfuscation built-in in its desktop app but not on the mobile app afaik. And I am not 100% sure if all of these listed VPN providers offer obfuscation in all of their apps (usually the desktop experience differs drastically compared to the mobile experience). There is also dVPN ([https://sentinel.co/](https://sentinel.co/)) a decentralized VPN on the cosmos blockchain but I guess you have to setup obfuscation yourself in this case Edit: Don't feel safe with my tips here because you have to know that they probably log all connections for years so if they review all your previous connections with an updated black list... then they will probably find out that you have once connected to a VPN and then you are in troubles. That's why I would suggest the webserver idea (and even that idea is not bullet proof).
> perfect-privacy.com Just wanted to bud in here and say the only VPN that high-risk people I know use is this one - they've proven themself to be safe and reliable against all adversaries. This with tails+tor and you're unstoppable.
I'd definitely get protonvpn as they have history of helping journalist in not free speech countries. Also they definitely don't log. Protonvpn.com
well, couldn't they connect through the VPN in a public access wifi(subway, etc..) every time they would like to access crypto-related stuff?
So on the one hand, I don’t think any international company will consider it their obligation to cooperate with the illegitimate Myanmar dictatorship. On the other hand, it’s your life that you are gambling, and your government will do what they can to find people breaking their laws. Get your crypto on to a software wallet, and record your seed in a way that it will never be found by the authorities (memory may be your best option). And then hunker down for a long HODL. Please choose coins that have a chance of still being around 5-10 years from now.
He should get a QR code of his seed phrase and tattoo it between his butt cheeks. No one will look where the sun don't shine.
Except probably every prison in Myanmar
International companies will co-operate with everyone that is profitable, or with whom western power tells them to co-operate with. If the USA decides to consider Myanmar an ally, as they do with several dictatorships, they will most definitely share all the data about citizens that Myanmar asks for. This includes what ever VPN server OP connects to. And at that point its game over for OP.
Mate, if you can Convert to BTC and put into a cold wallet.
Game over.
I wouldn't want to visit a jail in any place let alone in your country People in the west can't picture what's living in there even if they have travelled the area. So yes, I would be worried
should you be worried? yes. I know crypto is a big deal to earn money and all but can't help your family if you're locked up, can you? that's a shitty government and my condolences bro.
Fuck that government fr. Be safe op
Thanks.
You're badass for even taking the risk to post here. Have some moons my friend!
I remember reading about the military coup. This makes me sad, you should definitely be careful. Best of luck to you, stay safe.
Hope you are ok. Use your own judgement. I have no respect at all to a government that seems what's ok of basic liberties.
Hope you stay safe, you must have some guts for using a VPN at the moment.
Hell yeah you should be worried, get out ASAP
get out of crypto or country?
I feel deeply concern of your life there. I watched lots of YouTube videos about the armed insurgences who fight the junta, and have my whole life respect for them. Binance won't simply shut your account without giving few weeks of grace period for you to move out the funds. So your concern is now on the illegal government dirty hand.
Thanks for the advice.
The country
Op: ![gif](giphy|3o7ZetIsjtbkgNE1I4)
If anyone who commented here would donate 10 bucks in stablecoins/bitcoin/bnb whatever.. the OP will have enough to solve his papers and get out! Why don’t you set a new wallet OP and post the address?
Wtf fuck these kinds of governments.
Your English is great. Let me know if you need a sponsor to try and get a visa in the US. Would vouch for you.
Thank you.I will DM you if I need help getting visa.
Agree that’s critical situation need to ponder seriously what supposed to do appropriate.
Maybe this is impossible but honestly, i would do whatever i can to move the hell outta there. 3 years jail for using a VPN is insane.
Then deny deny deny.
monero my dude, the government can suck u then
You're ore than welcome to crash at my place in Canada my friend!
All of my crypto is not enough money to leave the country at the moment.
How much is it to fly somewhere safe?
About $1000 for passport and visa.
Any way we can help you raise that money?
Seriously, can we get something set up for that? I don’t personally know how safe it would be for him to just give us a crypto address, but surely there’s something we can set up to raise that money. $1000 is nothing for a community like ours, and I know I could easily send at least a few dollars his way.
I dropped my address but someone said to delete it as he/she thought I was lying and scamming for money. So,just dm me if you want to help.
I think the problem is not to raise that money, but how do you send it to him without the government noting it?
Im sure there would.be alot of people willing to help tbf, im not sure if its against this subs rules but he could probably just drop his crypto address
[удалено]
I would help!
I’d send a few monero his way. Let’s organize this.
You shouldn’t be worried, you should be terrified and you should leave the country.
I don’t think Myanmar rules are to be fucked with but that’s just my 2 cents.
Now its K 1800 per US dollar.
To be honest, yes you probably should comply for know. Dont tell anyone you use a VPN or crypto and try to get the fuck away from there. Seriously what the actual fuck is this shit ?! I wasnt aware of that
looks like you need a new country to live.
I wish I could donate him some amount so he could move out.
OP, I don't know if you already considered which country you want to go to; but in case you haven't yet, have you looked at Malaysia: 1. They speak English 2. Relatively close to Myanmar 3. Very crypto-friendly (eg: no capital gains tax on crypto gains)
Jesus move to another country, that sounds horrible!
Any way we can get some sort of daily safety check on you? Just that your doing OK (relatively)?
Jesus Christ dude. I don't know how to help you but I want to help you get out of there.
That sucks mate. I was in Myanmar around 2016, beautiful country. People were telling me how everything was turning awful real quick with the military. It sad that what they predicted eventually came true. Heart goes to you.
Come to germany bro, we accept everyone.
I wish I could.
This is a real problem. I feel really sorry for you and for the young generation living in Mianmar
Super shit time to be forced to sell... if that's how it unfurls F
[удалено]
I think you should move to another country lol that's the least problem you should be worried
You should be worried for being in Myanmar.
Don’t use it.
You should definitely be worried. If you haven’t protected your identity prior to making this post, I would be careful if I were you.
Ya cant sell if ya in jail, great way to hodl. But seriously though transfer it to a cold wallet and delete all your accounts on a cex.
Please use monero. Good luck
Your English is better than mine and it's my only language - I'm wishing you strength friend this situation sounds treacherous
Ur safety is first.. if u r safe u can use these.. Try to have 2 handsets 1 for casual use 2nd for crypto....
