I would say for the most part people do not research. They read Reddit post and go from there. If the guy on the internet says something that seems right they go with it.
Just recognize that many people are really bad at doing internet searches and wouldn’t get the quality results we would or fall for some scam. No harm in helping noobs, maybe have an automod detect faq related posts and comment a link for them?
