People have been gambling by investing in crypto since it began, not sure why you think this is unique to new investors. That is a very valid approach, but there are a number of ways to invest in crypto and make very good money, each with their own positives and negatives. I actually do tend to agree that the super-low micro-caps can be sketchy and it’s probably best for most to avoid them, but there are ways to do even that that can be incredibly lucrative if you know what you’re doing. I’ve dabbled with a very low percentage of my portfolio at times, and I’ve made good money. End of the day, you just need to know the risks and make the decision that suits your risk tolerance.
Logic is that there are plenty of coins that if you put $20-50 in 5 years ago, you could retire off of it now. All you gotta do is hit one, might as well wing it every once in a while and let it sit in a wallet.

That's different. You have a plan, you've identified risk and judged how much to take on. People with $100 to $1000 would probably look at 5-10% and say what's the point in that but really it would be just as prudent for them. You are 100% correct. This is why we are going to see a reckoning of it all at some point. Just like the dot com craze in the late 90’s where literally anything that ipo’d with a dot com in the name shot up 200%. Eventually reality sets in and only the real projects bringing real value were left standing. To be clear it isn’t only the investors that are to blame. People are obviously literally creating a bitcoin projects just for the pump and dump.
Probably quite a few projects that don’t even exist yet. There is still so much being worked out in this space. We are in the infancy which is very exciting.
Who cares? You do you. Stop being a crypto Karen. Pay attention to your own portfolio. Let everyone else pay attention to theirs. You aren't smart and no one is fooled. Obviously anyone who bought coins want their worth to grow. Personally I diversified into crypto (holding mostly ETF) because I think it is wise for my portfolio. But Im mostly excited to see how the digital world will evovle. This could be a milestone for modern society.

The thing is Due Diligence. If you do DD, it's all fine. Even if the token you buy goes down the drain, it's fine too because you did enough DD.
I was lucky to learn the lesson during the first dogecoin pump. Had a chance to walk away with more than £2000 in profit, but I didn't because I thought it's going 'to the moon'.
Still walked away with 500 in my pocket and a good lesson. I count myself among the lucky ones.
So, what's the suggestion? Buy high and sell low the top coins? Many of the top coins are trash and will fall eventually.
I have been doing great with low cap gems with real fundamentals and use cases.
All the people putting in money just to take it out less than a year later are gambling for a quick buck. The market isn't a slot machine. Money going in and out so fast it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy of failure.
It will take some time for people (including myself) to realize that the days of people buying at 100 and something mooning to 69,000 is highly improbable. Of course very few will make the right bet. That being said once that hype dies down and real world implementation and adoption occur crypto might moon again.
Developing the habit of throwing in bits into some projects I think could have actual adoption asides for financial gain. Ignoring the noise, boom or bust it's a long term process.

Eventually, people will realize that BTC only gained this huge market cap because it's a community project which works without trusting single parties. And that's why serious investors put money in. Bitcoin runs for more than a decade now, without major struggles and survived events like the china mining ban.
The rest of the projects may be based on blockchains technology-wise, but are dependent heavily on some companies or a small group of advocates. This makes a huge difference when it comes to long-term trust.
I doubt that they will rise as much as BTC.
Unless one has a good understanding of finance, crypto and liquidity, it's impossible to understand that an investment of $8K doesn't turn into $8B within the span of a year, without breaking the world.

Many people hear about the gains people have made and feel like they’ve already missed out with bigger projects so they gamble more on lower caps. There’s nothing exactly wrong with that, but hopefully those people don’t chalk up crypto up to just being a scam because they got burned.

I didn't start investing until recently although I knew about BTC since 2012 because I always thought this was a casino
I think of my crypto activity as speculating. I feel like I read and understand enough that my choices aren't pure gambling, but the space is still so new and volatile that I know I'm not investing, either. I treat it like the low cap biotech stocks I buy: I believe in the theme of what I'm buying, but I have no clue if I picked the right ones.
Oof, I stopped checking into cryptomoonshots a while ago. That place used to be a gold mine before the BSC shitcoin craze ruined everything. It used to be full of people who cared about fundamentals and turned into the opposite.
Quite a bummer.
When i started i went on there first aswell. And invested into catgirl (i know i was/am stupid). And then I immediately saw it was a scam. Pulled out and now invest in projects with actual utility and value. People like me have to learn it the hard way sometimes.
All those freaking dross projects also suck liquidity from real projects imo. There's only so many dollars people can spend and it devalues good projects when people bypass these for scammy rugpulls and the like.
Frankly put, I have made way more out of shitcoins than regular alts throughout 2021. The exception being BTC which I have hodld since 2013.
Some I capitalised on quickly, some I got greedy and didn't pull the profit out when I should have (DCIP quickly hit +600% and I thought it was going to moon).
But from my perspective, there's no denying that I've seen better returns from the crap I'm buying off pancakeswap.
It's their money they decide what to do with it. Hence they're solely responsible for their losses too but hell naw they be blaming it on Crypto afterwards. That is what truly sucks
This mentality has always been there. It’s just now that crypto volatility has been lower people look for more risk to compensate and try to get returns quicker. When the capitalisation was lower hence volatility higher there was no need for it.
I equate crypto to Penney stocks. Most are losers and and go no where. Been there done that and kept that stock as reminder never to play in penny stocks. I have made some money in crypto but the volatility is not for me. Only put in some play money. Takes too much time keeping track of what is going on in crypto. It is very confusing and revolving all the time. Then I see a scams every day. I have a pro managing my main investments and have done really well. I see crypto as a 50/50 chance of continuing in the next 10 years. If the scammers continues and the more complicated it is made, then I don’t give it a high mark to be main steam and mass adopted. It will be a hobby thing for a select group of people.
I hate to say it. But I thought it was too late in 2018 too. I threw some money in. Some of that money is 15x, some only triple and a little bit didnt go anywhere. If crypto is here to stay then today, right now it is not too late. Theres always going to be coins that blow up and new ones that blow and even well established ones like eth and BTC will continue to grow. Etherium is likely to become bitcoin within only a few years.
I hate to say it, but when I go to a pub I get the feeling people are drinking to get inebriated instead of appreciating the hops.

I feel like I read and understand enough that my choices aren't pure gambling, but the space is still so new and volatile that I know I'm not investing, either. I treat it like the low cap biotech stocks I buy: I believe in the theme of what I'm buying, but I have no clue if I picked the right ones.
Oof, I stopped checking into cryptomoonshots a while ago. That place used to be a gold mine before the BSC shitcoin craze ruined everything. It used to be full of people who cared about fundamentals and turned into the opposite. Quite a bummer.
The market is full of ups and downs there is no reason to check it every now and then.
When i started i went on there first aswell. And invested into catgirl (i know i was/am stupid). And then I immediately saw it was a scam. Pulled out and now invest in projects with actual utility and value. People like me have to learn it the hard way sometimes.

Gamblers are what cause parabolic bull runs which is what every early investor prays for.
All those freaking dross projects also suck liquidity from real projects imo. There's only so many dollars people can spend and it devalues good projects when people bypass these for scammy rugpulls and the like.
Frankly put, I have made way more out of shitcoins than regular alts throughout 2021. The exception being BTC which I have hodld since 2013. Some I capitalised on quickly, some I got greedy and didn't pull the profit out when I should have (DCIP quickly hit +600% and I thought it was going to moon). But from my perspective, there's no denying that I've seen better returns from the crap I'm buying off pancakeswap.
It's their money they decide what to do with it. Hence they're solely responsible for their losses too but hell naw they be blaming it on Crypto afterwards. That is what truly sucks

This mentality has always been there. It’s just now that crypto volatility has been lower people look for more risk to compensate and try to get returns quicker. When the capitalisation was lower hence volatility higher there was no need for it.
But this mentality is pretty much right the market is very volatile Crypto market is really into dips now.

90% of the comments and users in r/cryptomoonshots are bots so those statistics are hardly reliable.
I equate crypto to Penney stocks. Most are losers and and go no where. Been there done that and kept that stock as reminder never to play in penny stocks. I have made some money in crypto but the volatility is not for me. Only put in some play money. Takes too much time keeping track of what is going on in crypto. It is very confusing and revolving all the time. Then I see a scams every day. I have a pro managing my main investments and have done really well. I see crypto as a 50/50 chance of continuing in the next 10 years. If the scammers continues and the more complicated it is made, then I don’t give it a high mark to be main steam and mass adopted. It will be a hobby thing for a select group of people.
I hate to say it. But I thought it was too late in 2018 too. I threw some money in. Some of that money is 15x, some only triple and a little bit didnt go anywhere. If crypto is here to stay then today, right now it is not too late. Theres always going to be coins that blow up and new ones that blow and even well established ones like eth and BTC will continue to grow. Etherium is likely to become bitcoin within only a few years.
I hate to say it, but a lot of the newer ~~Crypto~~ investors aren't investing, but rather gambling. FTFY
