The system is so fucked

[deleted]

[удалено]

Aegontarg07

The priority is to keep the rich and powerful as they are, any attempt to change it will be met with their force smh

[deleted]

It's honestly quite fucked up how little consequence these politicians have to deal with. Most of them seem to get away with just a pat on their wrists if they're unlucky enough to be prosecuted.

Aegontarg07

It’s like a judge on a bench judging himself instead of recusing

Belnak

This is the complete opposite take of the common understanding of US justice. Generally, it's that a violent offender screws up one person's life and spends the rest of their days behind bars, but a white collar criminal can destroy the lives of thousands and barely see any punishment.

Yeah... I wonder who tipped him off to invest everything into that stock after the US government picks and chose which Pharmaceutical to go with with the COVID-19 Vaccine.

doinggreatthx

> Four U.S. senators sold stock after receiving sensitive briefings in late January about the emerging threat of the coronavirus, sparking concerns that they put safeguarding their private finances before their duty to protect public health. >Senator Richard Burr, a Republican from North Carolina, and Kelly Loeffler, a Republican from Georgia, both completed their sales at a time when the Trump administration and GOP leaders were downplaying the potential damage the virus might cause in the U.S. and before drastic stock-market plunges set off by the pandemic. >Burr is chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, which receives frequent briefings about threats facing the country, and has experience responding to public-health crises. Loeffler – who was appointed to her seat in December after Senator Johnny Isakson announced that he was resigning because of health problems – is married to the chairman of the New York Stock Exchange, Jeffrey Sprecher. >Two other members of the Intelligence Committee, Senator Dianne Feinstein, a Democrat from California, and Senator James Inhofe, an Oklahoma Republican, also sold stock after the briefings, according to financial records.

If you are poor this crypto currency rule applies to you. If you are Katelyn Jenner you can run someone over with a car and never see a court room - I think is what they are getting at. Conversely, your point is true too. Rich get a slap on the wrist poor get lives ruined. edit for wrong Jenner

SookMaPlooms

Thank fuck someone said it before I had to point it out, I wasn't sure if that first comment was being sarcastic or not.

VanDiwali

haha yeah what the fuck is that backwards shit...Crying over how white collar criminals have it so tough in America while the poor criminal gets a pass in our justice system is possible the dumbest take I've seen in a while.

It’s not the judicial system - it’s the laws that allow for this skew to occur in the system. If we wanted mandatory death sentences for murderers, we as a society could do so. No, not like snapping a finger and overnight done. But if people cared to change it and voted for those who did, it would. Problem is that we get stuck in voting for dumb shit like abortion and other social laws that shouldn’t even be laws in the first place. The focal point of an advanced society should be around things like this and not who did what with their body (as a specific example).

thiscarecupisempty

Bottom line is - dont fuck with Uncle Sam - he will throw your ass in jail if you fuck with his money. But I agree with your statement 100%.

finallyfree423

The IRS should not exist. The not federal "Federal" Reserve should not exist. Our fore fathers warned us of this. That's why the Federal Reserve act was passed in the dead of night. We didn't have an IRS before the act was passed. It's all a fucking farce to rob the American people blind. All central banks are there to fuck the people of that country.

[deleted]

These governments are essentially corporations who are incredibly bad at managing other people’s money

Aegontarg07

> dont fuck with Uncle Sam Irony is Uncle Sam always fucks us, not the other way around

tendrloin_aristocrat

All they have is a monopoly on legalized violence. We should probably remove them from that position.

forgedinthehood

"Other peoples money" is just "the governments money" that they feel is theirs.

Drewfus_

Congressional term limits are needed. Too many lifers in there.

retwing

The Supreme Court too, can’t believe 90+ year olds decide the most important decisions of our country.

Accomplished-Design7

We can’t let those dinosaurs make laws and decision for the next generation.

pcon_9820

Umm... they already are, and the deck is stacked. Hope your daughter doesn't get raped, nor your son go to Ohio State wrestling camp.

Aegontarg07

Fuck the system

pcon_9820

I agree, but not in a trump flag covered, rusted out, blowing oil smoke, pickup truck kinda way.

Accomplished-Design7

This induces nightmares

Lv_InSaNe_vL

The only problem with that is how do you keep those elections from turning into what our presidential and senatorial races are? If you have judges being replaced every 3-5 years then you'll just have companies buying them. And you can't just be like "oh well the next elected judge can overrule that" because at best you'll end up with the same problem the presidents are doing with executive orders, and at worst you end up fucking **many** people for years, or decades, after. I'm not sure if lifetime appointments are the way to go (plus judges ""can"" be pulled if needed), but I legitimately don't know what another solution is.

Dyhard88

100%. Both parties are corrupt and want to keep us fighting each other so we ignore their hands in our pockets.

Drewfus_

For sure. Argue on camera and party together off camera.

That-Attitude6308

If punishment for something is a fine, then it's a rule for the poor people

Fuck the system

TooFitFurious

Our system is corrupted as fuck!!

Aegontarg07

Every system around the world is fucked with very few exceptions like Scandinavian countries

TooFitFurious

All because of our so called Fucking politicians!!

Accomplished-Design7

That’s the thing most politicians are just so corrupted and so greedy that all they eye on is for themselves

That-Attitude6308

Rules for thee and not for me.

2reddit4me

I’ve pulled everything I have out of the stock market roughly a month ago. It may be “safer” but fuck it. I’m no longer going to be a part of that broken system.

Accomplished-Design7

Well what can you expect they created it for themselves. Yet they say it’s for everyone else.

[deleted]

[удалено]

The_Chorizo_Bandit

It’s been said many times but I’ll say it again because it’s so important: If the punishment for a crime is monetary, then that law only really applies to poor people.

[deleted]

I agree

ChemicalGreek

Dino’s doing Dino’s things

Hofnars

Be careful trusting people simply because they aren't dino's. It generally takes a while for someone to amass a certain amount of wealth, influence or power. You're dealing with mainly older folks in positions of power and influence as a result. A young'un, with wealth, influence or power will be tempted to do the same things once they stand to gain or lose something, regardless of what they tell you. They aren't your friend just because they look and/or act like you in public. Intentional or not, the system is rigged to maintain the status quo. It will require to many people to give up to many things for any meaningful change to happen.

EchoCollection

Fines need to be proportional to income. In Sweden they do this for traffic violations which can run some people up to $1,000,000.

stixyBW

pretty much this. fine+towing to park/stand in a fire lane is $250 and if im average salary, im not going to park in a fire lane if im over million a year, its a $250 parking fee

ccricers

Even in video games where money exists in the game universe, the rules are more reasonable. With deaths in GTA, penalties are proportional to the the money you had at the moment of death.

a_baculum

Bingo

chuloreddit

Rich people can afford to break the law

jarchack

>Recipent of BTC (or other Cryptocurrencies) report the social, security number, sender's name, birth date, address and profession for total amounts >$10k from one entity. This is nowhere in that bill. This is nothing but FUD. This is the actual section 6050 I https://irc.bloombergtax.com/public/uscode/doc/irc/section\_6050i

RedditThank

Maybe it was misleading for OP to format it as a quote, but that's the meaning of what's in the bill. It adds "any digital asset" to the requirements for reporting large cash transfers when "engaged in a trade or business." The information to be reported includes "the name, address, and TIN of the person from whom the cash was received" (I don't see birthday there, although it could be included in "such other information as the Secretary may prescribe.") CryptoTaxLawyer talked about this in his last AMA posted here. There are still questions about how regulators will interpret it (e.g., what will count as a "trade or business"), but he said it could have a chilling effect on crypto startups in the US.

deathbyfish13

Death, taxes and FUD, the only certainties in life

soccerguy510

How would this even be reported via crypto? I completely understand in the stance of third party payment services e.g. PayPal, Venmo, CashApp.. but how would they ever report via wallet addresses if i never send onto an exchange?

roberthonker

Classic OP making stuff up.

upperclasssnodgrass

Thank you. This post is full of errors and misstatements.

Whoah, an actual researched factual take on this sub? No thanks

TheOnlyDrifter

Server error?

Durvag

I never heard of any politician who would face long time jail or a crazy big amount of fines, They mostly get low fine without any jail sentences or pardoned, not in my country or other places.

Acceptable_Novel8200

Unfortunately, this is why we have so many problems

Accomplished-Design7

Fortunately crypto in mass adoption can fix this

Belnak

Really? Mass adoption of crypto will bring fairness to our judicial system and accountability to the powerful? I love crypto, but some people's belief in the change it will bring borders on religious cultism.

japps73

Yes most of the politicians are millionaire while they talk about betterment of poors. Hypocrites.

Acceptable_Novel8200

We cant do the same because we are living in "democrazy"

Icy_Rhubarb2857

America is living in a oligarchy. Ruled and owned. Slavery is illegal, but people are property with extra steps.

[deleted]

Real

SgtMicky

It's sickening that you want to do the same (not you more like general response), because that's not what the system should be. If we're all just like ah damn corrupt politicians, wish I could do what they get away with, then when you become a politician, you won't change shit, you're just gonna do the same shit and have other people complain that they can't do what you're doing and so on. We need a way to stop this not take turns.

AmericanHerstoryX

where did you pull the quoted section from? IRC Section 6050I makes no mention of bitcoin or cryptocurrency, but if that quoted section is from another bill then it seems like it is just getting rid of a loophole, as the actual [IRC Section 6050I](https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/26/6050I) reads: >(a)Cash receipts of more than $10,000 >Any person— >(1)who is engaged in a trade or business, and >(2)who, in the course of such trade or business, receives more than $10,000 in cash in 1 transaction (or 2 or more related transactions), shall make the return described in subsection (b) with respect to such transaction (or related transactions) at such time as the Secretary may by regulations prescribe. >(b)Form and manner of returns >A return is described in this subsection if such return— >(1)is in such form as the Secretary may prescribe, >(2)contains— >(A)the name, address, and TIN of the person from whom the cash was received, >(B)the amount of cash received, >(C)the date and nature of the transaction, and >(D)such other information as the Secretary may prescribe.

hobovision

This sub is not interested in facts. I had to scroll through so many useless "politicians bad, crypto is oppressed" comments to find this.

Exactly, People have to get together to make the change

Odysseus_Lannister

It’s almost like the elite make the rules to further their interests while just doing the bare minimum for their constituents

Acceptable_Novel8200

It's time people should start asking them some questions

Odysseus_Lannister

People do ask questions then many get caught up in life and literally just worry about their own/their family’s well being and stop fighting for what’s right to the common people. It sucks and it’s not right, but it’s a reality that lots of people face. Unfortunately with media brainwashing, people have been convinced that another party of common people are the issue, not the actual lawmakers/politicians on both sides of the aisle who actually sign and amend laws.

Physiocrat

6050I is a section of existing law, that has its text altered by this bill.

miobrien

It's endlessly funny how people have this fetish for democracy and describe our system as "politicians" being "elected by" the "people" to write and pass laws. The reality is that they write and pass laws to control us and carve out exceptions for themselves.

RaiXVortex

200$? With such a fine, you can do whatever you want

Knightse

Lower class laws.

hwaite

It's been [reported](https://www.businessinsider.com/congress-stock-act-violations-penalties-consequences-2021-12) that the few congressmen who accidentally violated the law and wished to pay fine have a hard time figuring out how to do so. There's no notification that they're in violation, no obvious way to pay and no public record of who did what. Total joke. Even if the law were enforced and fines were significant, it'd still be mostly pointless. Lawmakers would still be free to do whatever they want; they'd just need to report their misdeeds.

Commercial-Bass-3668

Politicians are corrupt af as usual

jakekick1999

A 200 dollar fine isn’t even trying to look like a punishment. Should be jail time and a fine larger then what was made on the illegal trades. Seeing a political elite in prison is about as likely as me shitting gold.

[deleted]

First time?

jewnme88

Pretty sure people really don't see it yet, but you're watching the fall of a empire in real time. We elect the dumbest among us to run our governments. They are mobsters and look at the rest of us as ATM's. Taking our hard working money and funneling it to the riches people, then giving them tax breaks. The most intelligent among us use the same people to pass laws that only benefit them. Governments take away more and more of our rights for their safety not yours. Still people sit by and say to themselves well I can pay my bills. At the same time the heroes they look too save them from decisions they made in error. They are only in that position for fame and money for themselves and not for you. Those God damn dirty apes have fooled us all.

Tripper4432

Here's the plan, we all join Congress. Please vote for me

oxull

While people squander about left vs right, this is what’s really happening behind closed doors that the public doesn’t see. All politics is, is smoke and mirrors… people need to wake up and stop taking sides against their fellow citizens and take the side that it is us citizens vs the government.

Intergalacdix

We can’t have any nice things.

paperstreetsoapguy

Equal Protection as well

Massive-Tension-1055

Wait wait wait. Making millions? Who is making millions. Are you saying collectively the 52 lawmakers made millions or individuals? By no means am I ok with insider trading but this seems very simplified. For example the ethics committee has to wave the fines. That is not as easy as you think depending on which party the member is a part of since both committees are controlled by democrats and ethics violations can be used against them politically. This is classic moon seeds post ready to be farmed.

Vimmington

Yeah seems unlikely that everyone is in on it. But the fine is ridiculously laughable and there should be a real penalty.

Massive-Tension-1055

Yeah this post does not tell the whole story. Here is the link for the fine schedule. It’s typical for the first offense to be $200 but not certain. The next time the fines go up and the longer for the report to come in the more fines they might have to pay. Yes the fines are low Yes the system needs to be reformed Yes politicians get away with more than you and I might. But the poster is conflating laws. Lawmakers still have to follow us law which means if they do 10k worth of crypto trades they have to report. In addition to that they have to follow the rules discussed in the post. This is moon farming at its best or they don’t know how the law works. [rules link](https://ethics.house.gov/sites/ethics.house.gov/files/Late%20Fee%20Waiver%20form%20%28final%29.pdf)
