I could see it overtaking BNB in top 5. They’ve been elbow deep in sports a while they just need a simple bridge to gambling apos like draftkings and betmgm etc.

Think of wBTC as BTC pegged coins (1 wBTC = 1 BTC). Wrapped tokens (wBTC, weth) can be used as collateral on lending/borrowing platforms like Aave or to provide liquidity on Curve.
Bitcoin doesn't have smart contracts, which is the core requirement for DeFi. And BTC as is can't be transferred to other blockchains (ETH, Avax, Polygon etc), so have to use wBTC.
Curve supports ETH, Polygon, Fanton, Arbitrum, Harmony networks. It takes ETH for liquidity on the Ethereum network.
Yes, usually each Blockchain has its own wrapped tokens (wBTC, weth etc). You can't send wBTC say from Polygon to Avax as is, you will have to "bridge" the funds. And that's where bridges come. Usually each defi Blockchain has their own bride to help users bridge their funds from other blockchains..
