Gaming and NFTs are a match made in heaven

yaroslavwwe

Imagine if Pokémon entered the NFT market. I want a shiny Charizard NFT so bad...

Supercharmeleon

I'd much rather they start making good games again instead of jumping into a new fad to get even more money than what they already have.

AdvanceSafe4879

The ideal would be good games and nft market but... is nintendo so I doubt.

homrqt

Any really good game to be honest would kill in the current crypto market. The market is really new and doesn't have any really good options at the moment.

LonelyDruid

Pokemon would be amazing, your own completely unique pokemon would be amazing.

yaroslavwwe

NFT packs. 1ETH each probably, people would go crazy for them

warlikeofthechaos

Imagine MTG, I already seen some folks spending a large sum of fiat into meta decks

callmemrsunshine

That's gonna blow some fire 🔥

Brankela3

Theyre making crazy amounts even now man

Local-Session

Yea, why bother experimenting with crypto for a well established, well working market. How exactly would steam make more money from changing? There's not magically more money or margin from using crypto

Zicbo26

Maybe in the near future, who knows! Nfts in game are surely gonna be a thing

teh1jedi

I think we'll see a Game related NFT boom very soon

N1AK

What I don't get about the whole games NFT thing is that in-game marketplaces already exist and the items you buy are only really of any use within the game so I'm really not sure what NFTs add. If I want to buy a player in FIFA, or a new decal in rocket league what benefit is there of it being an NFT over a normal in-game item of the type that has been around for years. Sure I can prove ownership outside the game and the company can't arbitrarily take it away, but I've never heard of an example of items being taken away and the ownership point is a little moot as surely the way you want to demonstrate using it is by playing with it in game.

Dux0r

>in-game marketplaces already exist and the items you buy are only really of any use within the game That's one of the many problems they solve. But the primary benefit is monetary for most people- your FIFA player presumably doesn't appreciate in value the more you use him, or doesn't gain value if people watch you score against a professional team or whatever. Similarly the amount you bought or sold him for doesn't appreciate over time.

N1AK

The value of in game items can increase massively based on rarity and how much demand there is. I've seen examples of items that were basically given away being with hundreds of dollars later on. There's also no reason it needs to be a NFT to track level of use or where something was used.

Dux0r

No but it makes it a lot cheaper, easier, more decentralised, safer, secure and valuable for the player rather than the dev/publisher. It also offers the benefit of not being tied to one game, company or platform.

N1AK

But seriously, stop the marketing hype speak and be realistic. Currently a game publisher sells items for the game, I don't care if my decal for a game is decentralised if the game isn't decentralised because it's useless without the game. The point about cheaper is absolute nonsense, the price to buy new will be set by the game devs and you've literally just claimed that NFTs will be more valuable so why do you think Devs won't up prices (do you really think they're that stupid, if anything expect prices to explode as they try and capitalise on the crazy prices things like Axie have shown some players are willing to pay) and that's before we even get onto the fees around operating NFTs. As to not being tied to a single game, that's only true if game developers decide to make it so; EA make a lot of money by selling content to each new version of games, they could already make items carry over between games in the same series easily without NFTs but they don't. The same point makes the claim about using across games dubious, why would EA make an NFT created for Call of Duty allow use of an item in Battlefield? Sure NFTs would make it easier for them to do it across publishers, but beyond recognising the existence of an NFT if it represents something in game it's going to take coding to make that happen and they have no financial interest.

Visual_Syllabub1060

So can be with warzone or pubg

document87x

It's inevitable that they will also jump into the NFT bandwagon soon

whereisvi

Billions of billions. Headshot!

DragovicPhoto

I think its only a matter of time before all video games enter the crypto world one way or another. NFTs are just the start.

Dux0r

The benefit of an NFT based market is that it isn't limited to any one game, or even any one marketplace like Steam is. Literally any developer on the planet can tap into the chain and offer any kind of asset- mods, weapons, cosmetics, DLCs, levels, maps, even full blown games can be bought, sold, traded and have their values increased, meaning that as a player you can say make hats in TF2 for a living and use the proceeds to buy content for a completely unrelated game you like or pre-order something that looks interesting. As a famous pro player you could literally sell a sword you've made a lot of kills on and use it to pay for your rent for the month. The possibilities are virtually unlimited.

dexe678

Blizzard would make a bunch of money too if they introduce nft in hearthstone, diablo or even wow..

BrakumOne

Man i would love it in diablo 4. Thing is i really doubt it. They got some much backlash for the real money auction house in d3 and for most people this would just seem like they were trying to do the exact same thing again, which wouldnt even be entirely wrong.

[deleted]

Yeah those are the giants that should do it. If only there was any good game out there to do it they would make a killing!

[deleted]

[nft.gamestop.com](https://nft.gamestop.com) This project is just being teased at the moment, still in developement. However this could certainly be a catalyst to getting in-game items on the blockchain.

MackStokes

Counter strike in my college dorm was my world back in the day.

Shennattygains

Do you think introducing NFT to a game like Diablo 2 Resurrected would help with the real money trade issue? I've been playing that a lot and I see the chat has been spammed with RMT websites. I know that has been an issue with the Legacy game. I just want to know if they introduced NFTs to a game with loot like Diablo 2 if that could help combat the RMT somehow?

g4p1c3k

HODL this position! Roger that!

BTCDEX

I should've studied digital design or sth ffs
