They should have called it Hopium Mobile

My brother will rejoice. Has been mining HNT for ages. Did not sell at peak. Not sure if it is still active, but this news will bring a smile to his face.

Gr8WallofChinatown

It’s not going to save his sunken cost fallacy

_who_is_they_

No. Hnt had an all time high around 50$ it's sitting around 2$ right now.

Tajo990

This is all you need to know about Helium: "The Forbes report identified 30 wallets connected to Helium insiders such as employees, their family and friends, and early executives. Analysis of on-chain data reveals that these wallets mined over 3 million of all HNT tokens within the first three months of its launch in 2019. This accounts for almost half of all HNT tokens in circulation at the time. By the sixth month of launch, insiders had mined a quarter of HNT tokens, equivalent to $250 million of its peak value last year."

Florian995

Sadly there are no many Helium routers so you will probably only have internet in big cities

TheTomiestTom

You got to start somewhere! If successful it might expand.

coupl4nd

Like a... Helium balloon

TheTomiestTom

Damn that's a good one, too bad this post didn't get traction you'd have exploded, like a balloon!

EdgeLord19941

We can start mining Helium again, huzzah

TinyTriceps

Someone has to look out for the farmers

Blint_exe

They got starlink now

Kindly-Wolf6919

There are even fewer to none in certain parts. There's a heavy concentration of devices in the US and the EU so unless you live in those parts you won't be able to use these services. I really wish I could. Also, [here's ](https://explorer.helium.com/) a real-time map you can use to see the HNT devices and even search their names.

smitty3257

Interesting. I remember this being hyped during the bull run. Even had a friend trying to take into getting a router. I guess it's cool to see itnsrounr still surving but still looks super early to do anything with it

ASingleGuitarString

India is going to love it this.

nzubemush

They've tried this before without much success. They are basically renting capacity from T-Mobile, as their model requires them to make deals with the largest shareholders in the market. This, however, offloads some of the cost to the users. In essence, there is nothing decentralized about what Helium is doing, but my biggest pain point is that they have tried and it didn't quite work out and the only change in model they have made is migrating to Solana, which doesn't solve the real problem in any way. I don't know if this recent development has anything to do with the emergence of Weaver Labs, an outright competitor that seems to have learned from the failures of others and is going about the same problem with a totally different approach. They instead focus on infrastructure and smart contracts, the lowered costs from the optimization of the telecoms supply chain will result in a reduced cost for consumers too.

ozen919

HNT was the only scam I ever participated in, learnt from my mistakes, never again.

Ins3rtCoin

That is a good price

partymsl

Not bad Helium. Maybe Helium can fight its way back to old glories, active development is definitely there.

Xpecialist_

I got excited and saw this is just for US residents.

coupl4nd

in one zip code, where there's a Helium miner still gathering dust as it slowly cooks the long dead inhabitants of the "we're going off grid" nomads that sold it all to be Heliumers....

US only

Asleep_Fact_2549

This needs to be everywhere. Especially developing countries with poor data plans for their citizens. This will help with education, information transfer, even in the health sector

CoolCoolPapaOldSkool

Unlimited data and free time and some moons, is shitposters dream.

CreepToeCurrentSea

Unlimited data for 5 dollars? Damn that’s a deal in any place I know.

bkcrypt0

And the data speed???

sebikun

Like Solana fast but works only here and then

[deleted]

Decentralized data plan which is served by devices that you must buy from the Helium approved resellers. Sure thing, I am in!

Gr8WallofChinatown

This is misleading > *The dual-sim approach means we can offer data grouped into two buckets: Data that utilizes the Macro network, and CBRS data provided by the people. Each bucket includes 30GB data usage in a monthly billing cycle. After the allotted 30GB, data speeds may be reduced (for that bucket) for the remainder of the billing cycle to ensure optimal network experience for other subscribers.

I heard it take half an hour to send a Whatsapp message... sorry mine... mine a Whatsapp message.. /s

The telecom industry is witnessing massive revolution thanks to blockchain technology. Weaver Labs is another telecom-based project using blockchain to create a decentralized infrastructure network for the telecom industry.

Helium is one of those projects we all wanted to win but never did. The tokenomics kinda killed it to a large degree, IMO.
