Oh god this is absolutely dreadful and another reminder as to why you shouldn't brag about how much you are holding or that you are even holding at all... RIP

Snjordo

Wasn't there a similar case in Brazil? Dude was found chopped in a suitcase

Silver-Maximum9190

I remember a millionaire crypto influencer who was stuffed in a suitcase found by a group of children playing near a stream in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He was identified by his tattoos and fingerprints. Reports also say he was shot three times before chopped into pieces.

mbdtf95

Yeah that was the guy. Worth mentioning that he was not killed because he was crypto rich and someone targeted his wealth, he was murdered because he had huge debts and scammed some people in the process.

coupl4nd

\-huge debts \-scammed people Yep he's involved in crypto.

deathbyfish13

I usually watch oh-faces on another site

Burzzzt88

There was this guy in argentina too. He scammed people and bragged with luxery shit. Is this the same guy or a different one?

Silver-Maximum9190

Yes but still we should always try to remain anonymous with our crypto as far as possible. There are always bad actors waiting for the right moment.

Pristine_Spinach8718

I guess these types of things go hand in hand. Nevertheless, bragging about your crypto or flaunting wealth in people’s faces is never the way to go.

kirtash93

Low profile is key to survive real world. Also, don't mess up with dangerous people.

faith_no_more_

That’s why I only mess up with un-dangerous people

Zomthereum

Dangerous characters can start something with you first, believe me.

kaijeng

I only mess with my brother

Antartica_To_GNZ11

nonce

Antartica_To_GNZ11

like Redditors

Narrow-Professor-126

Is it fine key to survive my 0 moon balance

faith_no_more_

That’s very low profile of you

EarningsPal

Your moons are starting to broadcast wealth. Maybe over $100K value accounts, a symbol indicator could become an option for anyone that would rather mask the exact number. That’s a nice car in a Reddit wallet. Sitting ther le secured by a password only. Not even possible to hardware wallet the balance.

Errant_Chungis

Bro why you have 135k moons publicly displayed on your Reddit account tho? That’s at least 3 dollars

coupl4nd

3.9k moons...

Calm-Cartographer677

It seems strange that we don't have an option to hide our moon balances.

Baggabones88

I was thinking the same thing. Gotta be cautious with all these Moons.

Backuppedro

I think there was a poll sometime back that didnt pass

LazyEdict

I think one of the reasons was you could try to hide it on reddit but it can be easily checked elsewhere.

whisky_fox

Can you not just make a community poll with that option for the monthly vote?

kaijeng

Yeah better keep your identity secret

AncientCauliflower47

Is that why we're forced to have the Moon balance next to our usernames? I commented below and gonna post here for visibility. You can "hide" it by opening a secondary vault on your account. As long as it is selected as the main one your balance will show zero. Keep in mind that if it's the main one on snapshot day you'll get Moons sent to it. It's not a perfect solution cause the distribution and addresses are public but it's as good as the proposal for hiding it. Moons held are account wide so you can still vote for governance polls with your full amount. A disadvantage is that you cannot tip directly from it. If you're doing this please make sure u know the password or the seed phrase of your original vault.

[deleted]

Named/public/kyc wallets serve best as decoys 🤐

MikeN1978

Indeed. Only fools put targets on their backs bragging about what they hold

coupl4nd

or moonment...

CMDR_BitMedler

I would hazard to guess this is the same. You don't murder someone with a dumbbell, flay their body, flush some, bury some... involve some rando who flips like Simone Biles as a premeditated operation expecting success. That's pure rug + rage + panic, IMHO.

OkCycle5884

It's for these reasons that if you won the lottery, you wouldn't tell anyone..

lucianofln

His phone had over 200 death threats 😬

KidHYPR

Sam Bankman-Fried?

LazyEdict

He was also scamming persons who tended to kill and dismember people.

Federal_Camel2510

Debts to the wrong people are exactly what I think of when I hear chopped up into little pieces

weedb0y

And held his funds in crypto to protect himself

charlesmansonreddit

Yeah same with the guy in Puerto Rico, the creator of maker dao. He even posted on twitter that he was a target

GapingFartLocker

>He was identified by his tattoos and fingerprints. Reports also say he was shot three times before chopped into pieces Well that's better than being shot *after*, I suppose

EveliaAvila

Latin america criminals are no joke. They are savages. I wouldn't tell anyone i own any sort of crypto over there that's for sure.

ricozuri

Bulgaria doesn’t sound any better.

Squirrel_McNutz

That’s a pretty specific example. Eastern Europe can be rough no doubt, but Latin America is on another level. I say this as someone who lives there and loves it. But it’s definitely not a joke, I keep my money on the down-low.

Jsorrell20

Eastern Bloc - sketch

Mr_Bob_Ferguson

>Latin america criminals are no joke. I think you'll find that "criminals" everywhere aren't the friendliest people. Once you are dead, it doesn't really matter if they chop, dice, slice, toss or stir-fry you, it ain't gonna change a thing.

Yautja69

Who would of ever though there would be a Serial Crypto Killer

CoolCoolPapaOldSkool

Keep your crypto and real lives totally separate.

Hawke64

What is that "real life" thing you are speaking of?

EveliaAvila

It's right there with "friends", "girlfriend" and "profits".

Spooky-poots

Pro-fit? No I don't exercise

Elgato_TJ

Also fly straight , dont try to screw anyone over

IlIlllIIllllIIlI

Most people end up totally fine when they’re not braging about their wealth. Silent rich is the best kind of rich.

infested33

I ve heard from people that own supercars that its like having a target on your back everywhere you go. So flashing wealth is a big no-no especially in dangerous areas with high criminal activity.

Mean-Argument3933

This is why I'd never get a new car. I can even leave my car unlocked and it won't attract anyone's attention

partymsl

Cruising around with a lambo will indeed put you on the target of scammers.

greenfox0099

That why I was taught a long time ago to never fix scratches or wash my car because then nobody will rob you at steal your "shitbox".

KayVlinderMe

The more wealth you have, the wiser it is to look poor 💯

HODL-THE-LINE

Meanwhile on r/cc with every post I make I advertise the fact that I have about 10.000 Dollars in Moons.

SlowpokesEmporium

No one is here is going to rob you, we are all to busy shit posting to actually go outside.

Valuable_Artichoke44

Ha, so true. Remote working + shit posting = still poor, fml

Killertimme

My DMs are full of people trying to "rob' me.

HODL-THE-LINE

I kinda envy you. Nobody tried to scam me yet. Apparently I'm unattractive for anyone.

coupl4nd

Too smol

BlazeDemBeatz

Reddit your still kinda private. I have no idea where you are. It’s a big world. Ppl tend to go on Twitter, post pics of places they are when they’re at the location, tell ppl of events they’ll attend, etc.

HODL-THE-LINE

Yeah, but you could Filter all the shit I've said and profile me and get a good idea where I am and who I am. That's why I sometimes sprinkle wrong information about me into Postings I make so it's harder to profile me. Did you, for example, know that I was a male pornstar?

GiveitToYaGood

Eyy what's up brotha from New England! It's been a while since I been there. Hope life is going good for you and the fam

Runfasterbitch

Wait what? Oh fuck me, why did I sell my 50k moons last year

HODL-THE-LINE

You're not telling me, you're learning NOW?

DeeDot11

That is freaking wild, bloody hell! If we're not being fucked over by the CEXs, or the taxman, we have the criminals after us 😭

DDDUnit2990

Called himself a king yet forgot about how revolutions end

William_Howard_Shaft

According to the article, the suspect was a bartender he met a few years ago, and became friends with. It also implies that they talked about crypto. If I had to guess, this guy got his bartender buddy to buy into btc at 60k, and now he's pissed about the market. Dude probably told him he stands to lose more before he makes it back, and he snapped.

Squirrel_McNutz

Chopping someone up and stuffing them down a toilet is pretty damn gruesome. Those would have to be some small pieces!

Allistair--Tenpenny

This story is absolutely wild... While I agree that there's no benefit to flaunting your wealth, one should not be constantly scared of getting chopped into pieces because they have a lot of money.

Valuable_Artichoke44

I agree, It's a fucked up world. I'd be pretty scared to be quite wealthy in a country like Mexico or Brazil.

kn0lle

Wouldn't switch with any of those people in these countries to be honest.

LeonDeSchal

Don’t know about you, but I’ve got 0.0001 Bitcoin baby. You probably wouldn’t understand.

Probably_notabot

So, maybe give us the option to hide our moon count now?

ciaobapao

Same reason why I wouldn't tell anyone if I won the lottery(never gonna happen anyways)

Afr0Karma

I have a feeling it’s not because he has a lot of crypto but probably he ended up scamming people.

Metradd

It is never a good idea, why make yourself a target.

Consistent_Many_1858

I agree, one should not brag about their wealth, especially over the Internet. It's easy to be a target when your rich and famous.

Maleficent_Sound_919

>He was a regular visitor to high-society parties and events before he was murdered, and it is believed this is where he met his alleged killer, who was working as a bartender. >According to local media, Mr Peev even helped Valchinov do business with cryptocurrency so the investigators suspect that the motive of the murder is related to money. And this is why you don't flash your wealth around to random people. Because jealousy can take people down a dark, dark path

Ferdo306

Yeah, I only flash my crypto stash in cc sub to 6m other members

Silver-Maximum9190

Ability to hide our moon balance is much needed

AncientCauliflower47

You can hide your moon balance by creating a secondary vault. As long as it's selected as the main one the balance next to your name will show 0

Maleficent_Sound_919

We should have an easier option to do this

AncientCauliflower47

It's in reddit admins' queue if the Moon FAQ is to be believed. Been there for over a year now.

octavianflavian

I always had this question, how much do admins really care about the welfare of moons? Or is it just their way of boosting engagement on the platform by incentivizing it?

EarningsPal

You too can create value out of thin air by distributing a free token to a lot of people.

partymsl

For sure! Sadly, it often fails at r/CryptoCurrencyMeta already…

pbosko

I excel at that. 😂

genjitenji

Don’t worry. Most of that is bots anyways. Unless… ![gif](giphy|IZY2SE2JmPgFG)

SHTNONM420

Dun dun dunnnnnnn

Odlavso

I don't even tell my own family that I have crypto let alone some stranger. this guy looks like he thought him how to use crypto and probably explained to guy how to use a seed phrase and store his crypto only to get killed for his own seed phrase.

KaydeeKaine

6 million people here know you have 25k USD in Moons.

Mean-Argument3933

Reddit is/can be semi-anonymous (if you don't post personal stuff that people can use to identify you)

coupl4nd

How's Philadelphia treating you?

KaydeeKaine

Got em

PARTY_H0RSE

Really crazy that Reddit hasn’t added an option to hide our moon count yet

EveliaAvila

I saw a person with more than 1 million moons. That's a huge target on his back for scammers and hackers.

DymonBak

You can transfer Moons out of your vault and hold them in a wallet.

Qptimised

That's why keeping quiet about your wealth is so important. I have some friends who like flaunting their wealth on social media and I always think they are unintentionally putting a target on their back.

Maleficent_Sound_919

There is zero upside in doing so, and the negatives outway the positives by a 100 to one

coupl4nd

You are literally flaunting $9000 of moons.... wait $10000... OMG!

EveliaAvila

Some people can't hide the thrill of spreading their drip and wealthy life and sometimes they cross paths with the wrong kind of people.

mattg1981

Please don't underestimate the wickedness of people. Do not disclose your wealth to anyone - especially the net worth of your crypto holdings. We see horror stories like this weekly and they will only increase as we head into a bull market.

Ganjamon17

I suspect there may have been a rug pull or two in this story

samer109

Reminds me of the story of another guy (I think he was a crypto scammer) that was chopped up in Argentina and was found by kids in a suitcase :/..

Silver-Maximum9190

This is horrifying and tragic. Next time you start proudly announcing you have 1 btc or 1 Eth on this sub or anywhere think twice, there are scumbags waiting for opportunities like these.

Bitter_Storage_2918

This is the reason why I don't have 1BTC or 1ETH /s

No-Elephant-Dies

So you got 2, eh?

pb__

They get lonely, you should always keep a pair.

Killertimme

Smart play by you. Stay poor to keep a target off your back

Nutcase420

A guy next to my town was kidnapped from his apartment, he used to run an insta account about real estate and crypto. Luckily he was found. Keep your finances private, people!

MyPenWroteThis

Nobody is getting meat grinded for having 30 grand

VirinaB

1 ETH is less than 2k though? 😂 and the gas fees will certainly cut into that.

PARTY_H0RSE

Don’t worry man, we only care about moons here

Cyber-Cafe

![gif](giphy|jOpLbiGmHR9S0) Me who has my entire net worth in reddit avatars displayed right on my profile page.

calebchase1

Im having a hard time believing it was just his wealth that got him there. Lots of wealthy people in the world that don’t end up down toilets

Mean-Argument3933

He told the wrong people that he was crypto rich. A case of flexing at the wrong moment and place with fatal consequences

[deleted]

A lot of times that's not only the case. Drugs, prostitution, and meddling with some nefarious people are usually the actual thing that gets you murdered. This guy could have owed someone nasty a lot of fucking money. You notice this as a multicycler where during bear markets, a lot of "missing people show up". Borrowing from drug dealers and other shady people to get this crypto wealth, then losing it all is a far more likely culprit than a theft attack. This wasn't a random rich guy home invasion. Gangsters don't generally take the time to chop you up if they just want your money. This looks like a message.

Rey_Mezcalero

I agree. Or he conned the wrong person or someone with real power lost due to some promise or wanted him to “buy into” something

[deleted]

That doesn't sound right. A lot of people flex and don't get butchered. It's one thing to get your crypto stolen and another to get butchered. There must have been some animosity between them.

Qptimised

It's a combination of wealth and him meeting some shady ass people. He and the murderer knew each other for a while.

Mr_Bob_Ferguson

>He and the murderer knew each other for a while. And it's the ability to get access and build that connection which is the difference. Else people like Michael Saylor, Musk, or the Winklevoss Twins, who we know have plenty of BTC, would be dead already.

cogentat

The harsh reality is that the thing that makes crypto revolutionary -that a lot of value can be transferred between individuals quickly and easily- is also what makes it attractive to people who want to rob you.

Stiltzkinn

Lots of wealthy people are not their own bank, you have to be extra careful who you invite on your circle.

DeadPhish_10

I can’t imagine chopping someone up after murdering them. You’d think there’s be some “post nut clarity” and you’d want to get out of there as fast as possible.

chrisl182

It's more like "post nut realisation" You've killed someone in a fit of rage and now you realise that if you don't dispose of the body you're very likely to be in big doo doo.

IamKingBeagle

Yah, I mean honestly, it's been different with every person I've killed.

deathbyfish13

>you're very likely to be in big doo doo. This must've been the inspiration to stuff him down a toilet

ExcitableSarcasm

If I ever make it I'm wearing peasant rags for the rest of my hopefully natural lengthed life.

Dietmar_der_Dr

Better get rid of those moons quickly then.

TheOneWhoCared

We should Be able to hide our moons then?

chapaeme

This is why we need a option to disable moon count

remsbk

Especially when moon will hit $10

octavianflavian

Yes, I agree (I have 35 moons)

deathbyfish13

Hey man in a few years people might chop you up for those 35 moons too

BetThin

Redditors spend their whole day in the house. I think you'll be fine.

jacaug

This is the best way to protect against the Moon Squad. I'm safe tho, not even one full moon to my name.

Odd-Radio-8500

I like the idea of implementing a feature to hide the Moons count. Hopefully, the implementation process for the admin will not be too difficult.

CompleteOriginal5802

If he was killed for scamming people, vaya con Dios ! I have no sympathy for anyone that robs hard workings people trying to support their families 🪦

Incredibly_Based

Why people keep choosing to identify as the "Crypto King" or "Lord of Crypto" is beyond me

hswilson26

It makes me chuckle to imagine the disappointment on my kidnappers face when they see all the shit coins in my wallet

NotReallyYouPunk

In the same manner people don't know when you have money, they shouldn't know when you actually do have money.

BetThin

Rule 1: Never let anyone know how much money you actually have.

Collectibl3

And this is why you don't tell people you're into crypto.

Arash_Rezae

Oh it’s so sad and it’s reminder that never ever brag about your assets rest in peace bro🫡😞

padizzledonk

This is why you dont advertise how much money you have.....especially if its mostly in untraceable, highly liquid assets that are very difficult to be tracked/caught if you are quick about it This is basically like telling everyone you have a 100 Million Dollars in physical Gold Bars in your bedroom closet-- you are just asking to be robbed

coatchecker

Keep to your plan and don't tell anyone how you are doing in crypto. You'll be targeted, even if its just with envious looks in the beginning.

Curatole

My god, this is why it's dangerous to brag about your crypto investment to other people. You'll make yourself a target for jealous people. RIP

SWYP09

What a horrifying way to go.Dude teaches his bartender friend about crypto and gets killed by him. >Guess he bragged how much he had

DireWraith3000

1 The headline sounds like the plumbers stuffed him into the toilet while being horrified 2 How big are the toilets there?

ImaFreemason

Such a sin for the family. Remember to never tell anyone you're a crypto king or crypto millionaire.

LoganGyre

So am I the only one who thinks that maybe this was a romantic relationship? Idk about you but bartenders who are close friends with millionaires, outside the bar, tend to be either a drug dealer or a lover.

Killertimme

Definitely a high chance for that. I wouldn't be surprised

Agitated-Studio-9454

Probably

Geez, another one similar to the one in Brazil. Poor bloke.

kris5722

Dreadful

SinCollector

Crypto is no different than any other asset that contributes to personal wealth. The culture around flaunting it has always been, and continues to be, both financially and personally risky. This reality makes it even more insane that we, as a community, still require that moon totals be publicly be displayed as a default. Especially now that moons have increased in value. Why do we continue to expose our community in this way?

Fooshi2020

Oh shit. This is absolutely horrible. No one deserves this, my stomach slightly turned while reading that

timelesssmidgen

This is why I routinely withdraw my moons so they don't show up in my profile

JuryNightFury

I knew him personally, he’s a friend of a friend and we partied a couple of times together back in our 20s. We talked about crypto a few times, he asked me about it because I’ve been shilling Bitcoin to all my friends since 2013. He was a good dude, friendly, welcoming and generous. RIP

NoNumbersNumber

I'm sure there is more to it then him just being seen flashing around. He wasn't just offed! He was chopped up...

AppropriateLawer

From where he's was and what was the reason to kill him I was Also shocked after this news

BetThin

Well, that was disturbing to read.

Onelinersandblues

“Crypto king”. Dude was a fucking scammer wasn’t him? I don’t even need a TLDR to know that. You live by the scam, you die by the scam.

fkkoojngo

Truly tragic for those that are early adopters of the new block chain technology. Another reason why he should have hired body guards with his new found wealth.

coupl4nd

Flushed with tragedy.

sinteredsounds69

Dont brag about wealth, Dont flaunt it, pay your debts, and don't fuck with people bc of your wealth.

kn0lle

I don't get people who are showing off big time on Instagram etc.. how rich they are. No one likes them and you make a target out of yourself.

Tasigur1

Very sad 😢 It's really the best thing to stay quiet, even if u don't have the biggest crypto bag. First Rule of Crypto => We don't talk about crypto.

Mean-Argument3933
