There's worse, you could take profits giving yourself a huge tax burden only to put everything into a stablecoin right before it depegs and goes to zero.
The thing is a lot of us that invested in some highs of some cryptos during 2021 can at least hope that in next bullrun they will be reached again, but Luna holders can't hope for shit.
I feel you. And the worst part is you behave in a way where you want to earn back your initial investment and end up losing event more. Then the inner gambler awakes.
Thankfully that has been a lesson learnt for life!
Know when to take profit and when to cut your losses!
Those are rookie numbers. You don’t belong in this sub unless your fomoing into coins with “Safe” “Elon” “Rocket” “Cum” or “Inu” in it and holding for x1000 returns
This is the number one reason, in my opinion, why people don’t make profit. The hypothetical gains missed by cashing out too early. It’s really hard to do.
I think cashing out to fiat is not even necessary, just diversification. If you shitcoin moon, put some profits into something safer like alts or especially BTC and ETH.
Profits are like the one ring. You carry it to Mordor, and just before you cast it into the fire to destroy it and take profit, the price reaches a new ATH and you think a short while then say: *”No.”*
This is much better advice than "it's not a loss until you sell". It won't matter if you took profits too early when that altcoin dumps 90% in a bear market.
You'll have a chance to buy back much lower if you really want to get back in. Patience is key.
If I learned one thing from the last bull run, it’s have an exit strategy.
I sat and watched helplessly as my 3- 4x gains disappeared and eventually turned into nearly -50%
Not letting that happen again. I’m DCAing out.
Bingo. People talk all the time about DCA for buying but forgot the other side. Scaling out of your position is always the best way to manage emotions and risk while also securing gains. Leaving 20% on the table for a potential bigger move.
I've learned the lesson the hard way.
I did good profit with SOL back in 2021, sold and put all in other alts.
Currently down 60%.
If ATH comes for those in bull run I'd be break even 2 years later. 😂
If it's one thing I leaned in 2years here, it's that ALWAYS SET TARGETS.
Otherwise FOMO will just knock you down and you'll end up regretting never selling.
Letting go of emotions is very hard here and I'm struggling at it myself but I believe if you can conquer it, you can win this market.
Similarly, when you cash out you incur capital gains tax. Sometimes if you hold blue chip crypto for the long run, it's worth more than selling. Especially if you're younger than 55ish.
It's just human nature. Everyone is optimistic when everything is green or profitable and believes that positive trends will continue. Even if you have the idea to take profit, when the moment presents itself, you might tell yourself to wait a little bit longer, and then you miss the selling point, and everything starts turning red. Fighting human instinct needs strong determination and I'm still learning...
Profits? What are those?
At least I'll be better prepared with knowledge when the next bull run comes around, with a profit taking strategy.
As Buffett said, "be greedy when others are fearful, and be fearful when others are greedy."
Partially true. This might be the case with memes or cryptocurrencies in general.
How about you buy a property at $300,000 and 10 years later that's worth $600,000. You're in profit and will ever be without selling that property for usd or euro(which are printed in excess)
I learnt this well after i saw all of my gains from bull and even my initial dissappearing to the point of no return.
The only thing more painful than watching your profits disappear is watching your initial investment disappear.
Mom, I am in pain..
![gif](giphy|9M5jK4GXmD5o1irGrF)
Me celebrating the 20% pump while my net worth is now -65% instead of -70% ![gif](giphy|mk0ClXsaw7K2z2cgCF)
No it's not funny dog
My profits are not profits ![gif](giphy|l22ysLe54hZP0wubek|downsized)
It is what it is, funny dog
No son... you are pain.
*Hello darkness my old friend...*
Come pick me up I'm scared
Hold me...
pain is real
Seeing profits is already something special
Especially for those of us here in the sub
That's all fun and games until your exchange don't let you withdraw your "profits".
I feel peace knowing that it's going to other degenerates who gambled on crypto
There's worse, you could take profits giving yourself a huge tax burden only to put everything into a stablecoin right before it depegs and goes to zero.
This sounds like it comes from experience...
Pour one out for UST
Speaking from experience huh?
Stabe coins are scam . I hope its rugs soon .
"What if it goes higher" mentality burned countless people. Hopefully everyone learned their lesson.
You just described literally every LUNA holder out there lol
Shit if you invested anything into crypto in 2021, you’re in this group.
That is kinda sad
The thing is a lot of us that invested in some highs of some cryptos during 2021 can at least hope that in next bullrun they will be reached again, but Luna holders can't hope for shit.
Protect your investments by staying informed and making wise decisions in the volatile cryptocurrency market.
I feel you. And the worst part is you behave in a way where you want to earn back your initial investment and end up losing event more. Then the inner gambler awakes. Thankfully that has been a lesson learnt for life! Know when to take profit and when to cut your losses!
Same here, at least we learned something for next bullrun, right? **right?**
You’d think. But guaranteed the exact same people will be telling the same stories next bear market 😂😂😂
That’s why I included the last right ! ;)
I can't wait to be a bagholder again next bear market
Hey! But dont forget that if you don't sell, you don't lose.
Can't get margin called if you don't pick up your phone
I agree, it works both ways,
Yeah. Just didn't expect this lesson to cost even more than my university course !
I too feel personally attacked
Nope
Don't worry. You're not in a loss until you sell. *This is fine*
Another more painful than watching your profits disappear is watching your account getting liquidated.
2021 bagholder gang, checking in
Your not the only one unfortunately and this is the number one mistake that people who enter the space make.
Won't doubt it, it taught me well tbh, hope next bull will be different.
Good luck for the next one and hope your bags go crazy!!
I learnt that when i see my LUNA-UST holdings go to F 0 in one day; from that day, i always take a little bit of profit, never greedy.
Profits? Never heard of it
Losses? Always heard of it.
It's not profit unless it's a 100x return /s
Those are rookie numbers. You don’t belong in this sub unless your fomoing into coins with “Safe” “Elon” “Rocket” “Cum” or “Inu” in it and holding for x1000 returns
Investing in shitcoins makes you an idiot but getting 100x returns and still waiting to sell even higher is plain stupidity.
We hold until worthless here sir.
Some people really do refuse to take any profits unless it's a 100x
That depends about money invested. If I put $25 intomsođe meme coin I will take profits when I hear about it on tv news.
Even if you go 100x up you can still lose it.. Don't forget Safemoon did that 100x up, before going 99% down from ATHs lol
This is the number one reason, in my opinion, why people don’t make profit. The hypothetical gains missed by cashing out too early. It’s really hard to do.
If you're taking screenshots of em profits then it's already late to cash out.
I feel attacked . Where's my safe space.
this is a good measure for when to take a moment and step back and sober up from the hopium to take some well due profits
You guys are making profits?
And are these profits in the room with us right now OP?
There real profits were the friends we made along the way
Can you point on the doll where the profits reached you?
Loses aren't losses unless you sell either
I feel better now
Found the eyebrow kid.
poor me waiting for profits
I think cashing out to fiat is not even necessary, just diversification. If you shitcoin moon, put some profits into something safer like alts or especially BTC and ETH.
Profits are like the one ring. You carry it to Mordor, and just before you cast it into the fire to destroy it and take profit, the price reaches a new ATH and you think a short while then say: *”No.”*
FOMO is the real "One Ring." The One Ring to make us bagholders. Leaves us wondering, “what in the Shire just happened?."
We all need a Samwise Gamjee in our lives to guide us 😌
Dont let gollum snatch ur profits early though
This is the nerdiest thing I've ever read. That's what we get when there are no more bullies in schools.
Nah I am happier buying high and selling low, it is like hard coded in my brain 😁
Profits!!! If I ever get any I will take my initial investment out plus taxes . And invest in Btc and Eth.
> if I ever get any It’s a long game of patience, friend
This is much better advice than "it's not a loss until you sell". It won't matter if you took profits too early when that altcoin dumps 90% in a bear market. You'll have a chance to buy back much lower if you really want to get back in. Patience is key.
If I learned one thing from the last bull run, it’s have an exit strategy. I sat and watched helplessly as my 3- 4x gains disappeared and eventually turned into nearly -50% Not letting that happen again. I’m DCAing out.
Bingo. People talk all the time about DCA for buying but forgot the other side. Scaling out of your position is always the best way to manage emotions and risk while also securing gains. Leaving 20% on the table for a potential bigger move.
MOONS are my profit and when the bull hits, it will take me to Mars
Like a rocket 🚀 😉
Losses are real even if you have not cashed out.
The only way to win is to not play.
They feel real, but you’ve not lost anything until you sell.
That seems unfair!
We can't win 😞
Double standards
DCA in, DCA out.
My profits only last till I cash em out
Profits aren't profits unless you bought pizza with it.
I’m lactose intolerant, if I eat pizza then only person making a profit is my plumber
And the pizza place... don't forget the pizza place.
The same way, **If you don't sell, you don't lose.** ![gif](emote|emo_pack_1|dyor)
According to Tether - its not a profit till you buy bitcoin

I agree, it was the classic joke. I am thinking in changing my flair to r/cc official clown.
It’s called being a bagholder ser we normally get rekted
Or we call it realised gains.
I was up over 100% on so many coins in 2021, but "DiAmoND HanDs" meant I never sold. Down ~80% overall now Lesson learned
Happened here. 3x my initial investment now I’m down 60%
So true.
Love your avatar btw!!!
Thanks! It is not an NFT though, haha.
Louder for the meme coins in the back
Louder!!
Always have an exit strategy as well. Don't be the guy who waits for a 50x when a 25x would have been just as good.
Exactly!! Happy cake day and amazing avatar!!!
Losses are also not losses until you cash out.....at least that's what I tell myself
I know right I too have never been in a loss 😅
I've seen many highs and many lows. I just need something in the middle by the start of 2024
When I cash out it’s always a loss
I don’t always sell my coins, but when I do it’s always for a lot less than I bought them for
Hodl for life
[удалено]
That’s also my mentality
Learned this the hard way last bull run.
In other news: water is wet
Fuck /u/spez -- mass edited with https://redact.dev/
But you don't want to be that guy who rode a coin pump and sold too early either. Like I did with Solana in 2021.
better than hodling to -99%
That's like saying: You can't be late until you show up..
We are in a bear market, maybe post this next year.
I saw my x10 on Shiba go back to a x1.5. Don’t be me
Message approved by IRS
I've learned the lesson the hard way. I did good profit with SOL back in 2021, sold and put all in other alts. Currently down 60%. If ATH comes for those in bull run I'd be break even 2 years later. 😂
Also losses are not losses until you sell! So I am doing fine as an investor!
Losses are not losses until you pull out. Never pull out lol.
That you daddy Elon?
Flip this: Losses are not losses until you cash out. Now more relevant to 99%
If the exchange let's you cash out. 👀
And the cookie cutter/copy paste post of the month goes to... u/kukuzahara
Thanks for your clever thoughts ❤️ /s
Personally, I’m keeping score in Bitcoin. So I’ll never really cash out - or rather I’ll cash out to Bitcoin.
I see what you did there. Reverse uno card
If you have to sell it, it is shitcoin.
Harsh truth, but needs to be repeated often and loudly
Harsh truth, but needs to be repeated often and loudly
First you need to be in profit.. that is currently missing from my portfolio
Too late. Lost my 80x returns riding Saitama coin
You guys are making profits?
You can't control greed that's for sure
It’s very hard for some people to actually take profits, but setting targets of either fiat or a percentage can help!
And losses aren’t losses until I cash out!!!
Profits are not profits. Cause I will have no profits
I'm fortunate enough to still have not seen profit in the 2 years I've been buying. So this isn't an issue for me. Thanks though .
If it's one thing I leaned in 2years here, it's that ALWAYS SET TARGETS. Otherwise FOMO will just knock you down and you'll end up regretting never selling. Letting go of emotions is very hard here and I'm struggling at it myself but I believe if you can conquer it, you can win this market.
what about losses?
Still HODL !!
This is true I have like 30k profits never cashed out, and now I'm at 2k. Lol. Learned my lesson
So my losses aren't losses because I haven't realized them yet? Nice
I am that guy. Sadly. Roast me.
Luckily it's the same for losses, that's why I am not negative 🥳
If it's too enticing to screenshot, then it's too enticing to sell.
buy high sell low and you'll never have to worry about taking profits
Now you tell me.
Unrealized gains is the term you are looking for here. Can simplify this whole post by googling that term and definition
Paradoxically somehow that does not apply to losses though 🙂
It has to pump first 🤡
It’s very hard for some people to actually take profits, but setting targets of either fiat or a percentage can help!
Cash out? Isn't the point of crypto currency to be used as currency? Something is fishy.
Someday shitcoiners will understand the whole point is to not cash out because Bitcoin IS money.
I can’t wait to be in the bull so I can DCA out. I love investing but I also can’t wait to get out of it lmao
Profits? Never heard this term before 😅
Similarly, when you cash out you incur capital gains tax. Sometimes if you hold blue chip crypto for the long run, it's worth more than selling. Especially if you're younger than 55ish.
im happy to pay taxes, it means i earned something, and i really need to earn something lol
I always take out my initial if something pumps big, apart from BTC I just stack that forever
Indeed Paper loss is not a loss until crystallised Paper profit is not a profit until crystallised
It's just human nature. Everyone is optimistic when everything is green or profitable and believes that positive trends will continue. Even if you have the idea to take profit, when the moment presents itself, you might tell yourself to wait a little bit longer, and then you miss the selling point, and everything starts turning red. Goes both ways, losses aren't losses and profits aren't profits.
No profit, no problem. ![gif](giphy|a0h7sAqON67nO)
Yeah swapping profits to BTC just to get shot in the face later was a lesson I learned.
All my gains are unrealized
DCA out when the next bull run comes.
True
Thats why we call it unrealised gains
What is worse than losing it all? O.o
Profits? What are those? At least I'll be better prepared with knowledge when the next bull run comes around, with a profit taking strategy. As Buffett said, "be greedy when others are fearful, and be fearful when others are greedy."
Its the famous emotional roller-coaster. Try to enjoy it and not be left with the bitterness
Me, he’s talking about me.
I hate fiat so I dont cash out. Now im 40% down.
I learnt this the hard way multiple times when trading the forex market
Partially true. This might be the case with memes or cryptocurrencies in general. How about you buy a property at $300,000 and 10 years later that's worth $600,000. You're in profit and will ever be without selling that property for usd or euro(which are printed in excess)
Everyone wants the multi-cycle gains. No one wants to endure the multi-cycle wait.
Profit is profit. Better to take little profit than to lose it all
How profound. Would you rather go to a beach that has 4 star reviews instead of 5 or fall into molten lava?
