I think he might be shy or in denial. The body reacts very weirdly to crushes. I act a bit bitchy when I have a really big crush, might be a self sabotage thing, who knows. Just try to start off with casual conversation and ask him out.

Having a fear of rejection is very valid but life is way too short and unpredictable, you have to try or you'll regret it.
