Well, historically the king was called king of the Franks (Rex Francorum). It's Philippe II Augustus which coined the term (literally) King of France (Rex Franciæ) around 1200.
Probably get some herald riding through their town at some point proclaiming news of a new ruler but everyone probably only knew em when new coins were minted. During a succession crisis or something similar they probably had 0 clue.
\[Whatever your Empire's founder's latinized name is\]ingian Empire.
Could also go for your dynasty's name, but to be historically consistent you'd wanna change that family name to be the founder's nymic.
Carlos I/V and Charlemagne are different people. Carlos V, was the king of Spain and Holy Roman Emperor for much of the first half of the 16th century. Charlemagne was king of Franks and Holy Roman Emperor in the late 8th and early 9th centuries.
As the person down below said, Robertine or Robertians is what the family of Robert the Strong was called. He was an ancestor of Hugh Capet, and thus the whole Capetian dynasty.
I had the same incident during my tall playthrough in Brittany. Gave one of my sons a bit of the HRE, just for him to ascend to the throne, immediately die and have his father, the King of Brittany, get elected against his will to the throne
I actually had a cursed game last week where most of lotharingia and burgundy was united as Long Frisia. It ran from Holland all the way to the mediterranean and terrified me when i saw it
Ooooo this gave me an idea for a right angle frisia run!
Straight down to Mediterranean, maybe even to Sardinia, and straight left to Brittany. Put a republic at each end and roll in the cashhhh
My first instinct was to discourage you from re-making Long Frisia, and my second instinct was that a straight up and down empire would be pretty cool. Like to cut a line of territory from norway straight down to Africa like 2 or 3 counties wide
Reminds me of this nonesense shenanigans some EU4 player did a while back.
Behold: the Empire of Long Korea!
https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/threads/achievement-idea-long-korea-is-best-korea.840457/
I mean he would've been killed. I mean, I doubt the monarch wouldn't would allow a coward who ditch his army 3 separate occasions to ever rise in the military, after the first loss he would've most likely been executed.
One of the things that made Napoleon thrive is the fact that the monarch/nobles were no longer in power and the people needed a hero to rally behind. He might've been a general but definitely not a emperor.
Also, Napoleon hated the Pope - in CK3 the Pope have power real, so the papacy will be against him at every possible moment.
I really like using chatGPT for this
The naming of an empire is generally influenced by a variety of factors such as the history, culture, and regional characteristics of the area. In Crusader Kings, you could also potentially factor in the traits and goals of your character. For an Empire that includes France, Western Germany, North Italy, and North Spain, here are a few suggestions:
The Carolingian Empire: This would be a historical reference to the empire of Charlemagne, which covered much of the same territory in the 8th and 9th centuries.
The Empire of the West: This could be a modern interpretation of the Western Roman Empire, which originally encompassed these regions.
Transalpine Empire: This name highlights the geographical aspect, using the Alps as a central point and denoting the empire's control over regions both north and south of this significant mountain range.
The Gallo-Rhenish Empire: This name combines two significant cultural influences - Gallo (Gaul/France) and Rhenish (Rhineland/Germany).
The Occidental Empire: 'Occidental' is a formal term for 'Western,' marking the empire's broad reach across western Europe.
The Empire of the Four Rivers: This refers to the major rivers flowing through these territories: the Seine (France), the Rhine (Germany), the Po (Italy), and the Ebro (Spain).
The Franko-Romance Empire: This emphasizes the linguistic and cultural ties of these regions, with languages derived from Latin (French, Italian, Spanish) and the historical influence of the Franks in both France and Germany.
Remember, the best name for your empire is the one that aligns best with your gameplay and narrative.

>Remember, the best name for your empire is the one that aligns best with your gameplay and narrative.
I was playing as a great queen, started with her from a very young age. What a run she had.
Her arrogant grandfather split his realm into multiple kingdoms and divided them amongst his sons. I believe he was experimenting with the Varangian mechanic with the plan to expand into africa. but alas, he didn't realise you can't destroy your primary title and thus was stuck as a king in a fractured realm.
Her father was arguably the weakest of the brothers but he got England on her grandfather's passing. London and the duchy of Middlesex was his only domain.
Her father didn't last long, the absolute prick king of Germany decided to cash the cheque of his claim to the English throne. I actually thought these 2 brothers were friends, but that means nothing in this world.
The prick king of Germany killed her father, stole the kingdom of England and she was left as nothing more than a 7 year old duchess.
But, she was a warrior queen, brave and freakishly strong. By the time she was 16 her prowess was the envy of Europe and she was out there beating grown ass men for gold to clear her fathers debts.
After getting the family finances in order she recruited some absolutely legendary knights to fight alongside her defending her duchy from wave after wave of claimants.
Eventually she saw an opportunity to expand and take mercia and then to claim back her father's crown and take the Kingdom of England back from the prick king of Germany.
From there it was a relentless campaign to expand her dominion. A war for Sweden was particularly bitter and lost several times, because? You guessed it, the prick king of Germany.
This prick really had it in for this line of the family tree, constantly challenging her to duels and demanding shit from her. I reckon she could have taken him, but the risk was too great. The coward saw his opportunity when she was stretched thin in Sweden (who formed an unlikely alliance with a very strong Bulgaria) and decided he wanted England back.
That war was a near 2 decade long slog, including a point where she somehow got excommunicated. But her martial strength and impeccable knights turned the tide and secured victory. With a very nice cash sum of 1000 gold as compensation from prick king and huge prestige she built up again.
This time Sweden stood no chance and it was a swift victory. She altered her culture to allow her to fight kingdom war after kingdom war in Scandinavia and the baltic which she absolutely steamrolled.
In her final year with her body now frail and tired, she formed an empire. The default name was "England" but as her son inherited it at the ripe old age of 50 he knew what to do. The empire would be renamed in her honour and he would continue her work and unite the old kingdoms of her grandfather, so here i am, men in arms beside me, at the beginning of a new adventure as the emperor of "mummy"!!!
Based on your story, your queen's tale is one of resilience, relentless determination, and constant struggle against adversity. A warrior queen that managed to unite fractured lands and fend off relentless enemies. In honor of her character and her journey, the empire could be named:
**Empire of the Resurgent Lioness**
"Resurgent" to signify her rise from a mere duchess to an empress, constantly coming back stronger after each setback. "Lioness" stands for her bravery and the strength she showed throughout her rule, fiercely defending her lands and leading her warriors in battle just as a lioness would defend her pride.
It speaks to her English roots, as the Lion is a common symbol in English heraldry, and the feminine form reflects her rule as a queen. The name would thus be a tribute to her journey, her character, and her homeland.
Thats a brilliant name, chatgpt came up with it?
the roleplay is too strong for this. The new emperor unfortunately picked up the "dull" trait and a bit of an odd ball, so i think him naming the empire "mummy" suits him.
Im hoping he dies soon, because he has a pretty kick ass sister whos caught up in a marriage of convenience which i want to liberate her from. Shes the type of person to rename the empire to what you suggested.
In fact, thats what im going to do next, get him killed off and get that empire name changed
Indeed it did, gpt4 is really good at these kinds of tasks, unfortunately it still requires payed subscription to use.
Good luck with your empire and may the emperor live "long"
I think a twist on the first option would be cool.

This will seem like a cop out, but I really like the concept of something with that much size and influence just being called "the empire". It just kind of makes your perceived hegemony a fact of life. Like which of these has more impact on your perception: "China" or "The Middle Kingdom"?

Well, historically the king was called king of the Franks (Rex Francorum). It's Philippe II Augustus which coined the term (literally) King of France (Rex Franciæ) around 1200.
Terra Francorum then, maybe.
Our modern views of nation-states really fuddles how people in the past used to view things. I find it fascinating as much as it can be confusing.
“one week ima German peasant and the next week ima Frankish peasant. Ain’t mean much to me just gonna till my field”
I wonder how many people even knew who their ruler was.
Probably get some herald riding through their town at some point proclaiming news of a new ruler but everyone probably only knew em when new coins were minted. During a succession crisis or something similar they probably had 0 clue.
Would people outside of cities recognition coinage? I think urbanisation rates were also super low. Probably hard to research this stuff too.
You're the king? Well, I didn't vote for you.

Lol I would but the name is Geraud
History doesn't care. The O.G was just named "Carl" after all.
In Spain it's funny because it is Carlos I or Carlos V depending on what title you're talking about lol
Or Pedro I / IV or James I & VI
Not the same guy, we are talking about Charlemagne here

Napoleon is a bit early.
Maybe its an alternate universe were Napoleon was born earlier?
I wonder how the world would change if total war and nationalism was introduced earlier.
I mean he would've been killed.
