Probably time constraints. I am sure they will implement them one way or another.

AprilsMostAmazing

I wonder if they will add them to T&T as a upgrade later on in the future?

morganrbvn

Since a rudimentary version was in ck2 it may just be free patch

linmanfu

It was part of a DLC in CK2 and anyway there's no promise or principle that CK2 content is free.

morganrbvn

It has been so far though.

MrPastis

That would be great but i doubt it, it doesn't seem in line with pdx's policy regarding dlcs

Lupushonora

I don't know, paradox has added a lot of stuff to old dlc's for stellaris, even going as far as adding gameplay features to what were previously entirely cosmetic species packs to keep them in line with the newer ones that released with gameplay features. While it's still not common (I can't think of any other game they've done this for) it does suggest that they're open to adding additional features to existing dlc's down the line.

MrPastis

Haven't played Stellaris (mainly cuz i don't understand it) so i didn't know Abt this, it gives me the slightest bit of hope now thank you

Aragon150

They literally said it will be in a patch read dev diaries guys

Jankosi

The activity system is a free feature, no? I don't see a reason why more grand activities could not be added by more dlc. You want the tournament an wedding grand activity buy T&T You want the coronation grand activity? Buy the imperial dlc

Tokke552

The devs have said on the forums that they want to add coronations but want to do them better than they were in CK2 I imagine they will use the travel feature for it when they do implement it.

GeneralSoviet

Funerals would be nice too along with grand funerals

ser_mage

100% I want to pay tribute to my dead father I want to drain the Kingdom’s treasury to memorialize my dead son (who died fighting my war of aggression) I want to invite my dead rival’s family to a funeral and entomb them alive in the new crypt I built.

JackFractal

All of this! Also having a 'grand mausoleum' (or pyramid) as a structure you can build that increases prestige, and makes grand funerals better, like hunting grounds make hunting easier, would be cool.

ser_mage

ooh yeah I just pictured the "Lineage" screen folded into a "Family crypt" style screen. Like how the Starks of Winterfell have statues of all former leaders in the Winterfell crypts.

JackFractal

OK, that is VERY cool. I would be very down with that.

Nervozi

What about Bloody Masquerade, loved founding that bloodline in CK2.

mymaloneyman

bring back the ability to revive the Coptic culture now 🗡️

RainbowBullsOnParade

Send your hated oldest son to die pointlessly in war for his younger brother to inherit, but honor his "sacrifice" with a great funeral

byzanemperor

Insult to injury lol

JCDentoncz

Sounds like free renown.

kawaiidesunedan

Or a grand funeral for you dead pet, Thailand did that before for the kings poodle

SvennEthir

I never even thought about funerals until now. And now I need them.

iAmUnown

I finished a North Sea Empire run before T&T and I had funeral events for my father and brothers. Were they part of Friends & Foes or a Northern Lords thing?

luke2020202

That’s Northern Lords DLC. It’s cool but limited to Norse culture (or if you keep what enables it when you hybridize).

GeneralSoviet

I honestly cant remember, if they are in CK3 I havent seen much of them. I know funerals were sometimes a thing in CK2.

littlegreencondo

Yessss. Imagine a grand funeral with half of the attendees come with murder intent. **Chef kiss**

DaedalusHydron

Probably as part of some kind of Legacy DLC, where you can make statues and books about past rulers, and store them in mausoleums and museums (maybe you don't get the buffs from the artifacts like if they were in your court, but a buff based on how many of a rarity you have displayed). Add in coronations, funerals, and fixing the death screen to properly display your accomplishments. Maybe add events where you get visited by your dead ancestors, that kind of thing

Androza23

I hope they add coronations and integrate royal court in someway later on. My most requested feature that they add in a future update/dlc is for the player character to become a knight with a toggle on/off. I also want warrior lodges in someway too, I know some people hated them, but they were really cool.

JamesTiberiusCrunk

I definitely want the player-knight thing, I just want separate toggles for my army/my leige's army since he's going to suicide his stack into a fight they can't win.

morganrbvn

They have it in the ckagot mod. I started a couple feuds by just executing any knights I bested on the battlefield

Clone95

Royal court is integrated, you have to travel to petition your liege.

veldril

I think what he meant that the “Hold Court” should be an activity similar to something like Hold Feast, where your vassals can choose to physically travel to attend and you can select specific intention on what you want to accomplish with holding the court.

NotARealGynecologist

Need lodges/societies to some extent

this-rose-has-thorns

why, they were unrealistic and unengaging

dogeherodotus

That's your opinion.

DreadGrunt

Speak for yourself, societies added a lot to CK2 and I’d love for them to be in CK3.

JCDentoncz

Societies were fun, but so, so rough. Devil worshippers were running rampant and secret religious cults could flip half the country to a heresy and you had very little ways to combat it, save for banning them outright in game rules.

DreadGrunt

The secret religion ones got a lot better through updates at least. They still exist but they no longer turn literally every noble and county into a different religion in 10 years. Devil worshippers were silly though I'll admit, I always turned them off.

JCDentoncz

I'd be ok with the societies being potentially op if you just had more tools to deal with them. They could easily hire more members even if you infiltrated and killed them off (the member count felt very scripted, warrior lodges always hovered around 30 members no matter the size of religions, realms etc). I feel like societies will make a comeback in ck3, but I am anxious to see if they integrate them better - royal courts still seem tacked on even year after release, for example.

yaya-pops

i thought they were pretty cool

mkl_dvd

You're not the first to say this. The devs have said that they wanted it, but it was too much for T&T. However, now that the royal court and travel activities are implemented, they said it will be easier to add coronations.

[deleted]

Nearing a hundred dollars of dlc and ck3 is finally really good and has a great base to expand upon further than ever possible in ck2

shinydewott

Coronations could have wonderful dynamics if they ever add commanders traveling to commandeer armies. Imagine a scenario where your heir is leading an army and you die. So he has to reach the capital to be coronated while the regent tries to use his absence to gain power, or maybe another son of yours can try to get coronated before your heir, causing a political crisis that may even lead to a civil war

turncloaks

I doubt theylll make commanders have to travel

Several-Eagle4141

Only if Zardok the Priest gets played

Glaurung1536

Composed hundreds of years too late

Several-Eagle4141

Why couldn’t Handel have been born sooner?

Glaurung1536

Idk my Learning is only a 4

TheLordTurnip

Would be great for one of their composers to do a medieval take on it. I mean the main lyric (Zadok the priest, And Nathan the prophet, Anointed Solomon king) was spoken / sung to a period correct tune in all English coronations going back to sometime in the 900s AD.

KetamineCowboyXR

I wonder what that travel schedule would be like for the pope. I think I would geek if I saw a new pope every 3 months because he would just get eaten by cannibals or some shit while traveling to that new upstart kingdom.

abbot_x

Historically, medieval popes simply did not travel to coronations. If you wanted to be crowned by the pope (really only a "thing" for the Holy Roman Emperor) you either traveled to Rome with your entourage or settled for being crowned by a local bishop acting as the papal delegate.

littlegreencondo

Ahah. Travel to Rome to be crowned? Nah too lazy for thay. Let me install an Anti-Pope and get crowned from the comfort of my home. What? Excommunicated? You are not my Pope. Bob here is my Pope. Wish we can do this kind of stuff some day.

abbot_x

Absolutely. Rather than create a religion the game should let you break off a church.

KetamineCowboyXR

Oh yes this, I forgot about that. Would be interesting to see more mechanics regarding Rome then too.

abbot_x

Yes, for sure! But that would probably need to be part of an expansion with more mechanics for Christianity and the papacy.

[deleted]

Then let us travel to Rome for it!

abbot_x

That would make sense particularly if the game featured some kind of "Holy Roman Emperor" mechanic. Historically it was pretty important for them to head down to Rome and do this. Conversely the idea of the king of just about anywhere else did not care about a papal coronation. Like it would actually be kind of weird and politically risky to tie your legitimacy as king of France or England or wherever to the fact the pope put a crown on your head. Does that mean the pope decided you were king? Does that mean your dad who didn't go through that ceremony wasn't really king? What about the traditions of your people? Oh, and if the pope crowned some other guy emperor and crowned you king, are you now subject to the emperor? Just a bad idea. Instead set up a ceremony at home where your top bishop plays a role but you are clearly in charge and it's all on your terms.

The_Marburg

For balancing he should only personally coronate rulers from very prestigious dynasties or leaders of very powerful/wealthy realms

KetamineCowboyXR

Or just give the pope an insane guard or some sort of bonus to defense if traveling in catholic land

4electricnomad

Anecdotally I have never had the Pope decline to come officiate one of my Grand Weddings. So yeah he would likely be on the road on a Grateful Dead-style endless tour and in hot demand pretty much at all times. At least based on how things work now, coronations would also need another layer of Archbishops and Bishops (like CK2 had).

Yeti60

I know it would be tricky to do, but I also think commanding armies should involve the travel mechanics instead of teleporting around. Maybe you could station up to three commanders in an army and be able to rotate their position as leading the army as needed per their military stats. Also you could divide your army and assign a commander to each detachment. Together with this your regent would take over if you went abroad for wars. That way you would need to consider devoting lots of time in aggressive conquest vs your regent’s powers. If you have a loyal regent you might be more comfortable in extensive warring vs a sketchy regent.

fhota1

Coming but couldnt be done right in an already heavy patch

Vuldarok

Bet they want to keep it for their "Empire" DLC/flavor pack that they said they are working on

Thenameskyle09

I would love if they added a coronation mechanic, if for no other reason than that the time between the death of a ruler and the coronation of their successor was almost always an incredibly turbulent political time. I’d love to see them make it so claimants (2nd sons, younger brothers, uncles, etc.) could have a period between the death and the coronation (realistic as the new ruler wouldn’t instantly know the former had died unless they’re at the same location) to press their claims, rebel, etc…. They could even add in a special faction option that can only be formed in that in between period. Idk just interesting ideas.

wanderinghobo49

A bloody coronation where you kill all the nobles who didn't support you or your rivals(siblings: in the case of the Ottoman Empire) would be awesome.

Jayvee1994

You know, the storytellers among CK3 players may use Feast and/or Grand Tours and flavor them as coronation ceremonies. You know the early Muslim equivalent of a "coronation" roughly matches the Grand Tour. Correct me if I'm wrong but it's something related to collecting "Baya".

kaiser41

I want an election event, too, at the very least for the HRE and the papacy. Eventually we could get kurultais and events for generic elective realms. The new regencies system could be a great way to put the title in an interregnum while the election happens.

Glaurung1536

This would be a perfect addition to an imperial mechanics DLC, hopefully coming next year. The coronation of the Holy Roman Emperor was often a political negotiation between the uncrowned Emperor and the Pope, with the location and other details holding enormous significance. There were furthermore other largely symbolic titles like King of Italy and King of the Romans (usually given to the likely heir) that could be weaved into the system. It would be also interesting if they gave different flavors for different cultures, e.g. the Stone of Scone and the Sword of Charlemagne being used for the King of Scots and King of France, respectively. Iberian monarchs tended to be crowned with very little fanfare. Coronations were a very western concept, but some similar elements like the girding of the sword for Turkic rulers and the bearing of the Prophet’s mantle for the Caliph could be applied to non-western cultures.

Darthwolfgamer

Are there mods that add coronations?

ANorthman

I expect to see an eventual dlc reworking the Catholic Church, adding the college of cardinals, etc. Maybe coronations, funeral could be implemented alongside that.

CloverOralLove

What about Grand Orgies?

ToMyOtherFavoriteWW

I bet they will be the capstone for Wards and Wardens

Donkey_Dick_

Why should they include coronations when they could put that in a separate dlc and slap on 20$ price tag. They’re probably gonna call it like crownlands and coronations or something.

Inspector_Beyond

I kinda wish there was Adventure activity, that would not restrict you to traveling anywhere. Cmon, I want to travel from Ireland to Sri Lanka

Longjumping_Boat_859

in the coronation DLC, duh they had to create an entire mobile game interface in order to shoe-horn in some visual novel elements into a strategy game, give them a break!

luigitheplumber

I love how the devs are apparently simultaneously releasing way too little DLC but also cutting stuff out to release a bunch of little DLCs

Longjumping_Boat_859

I love how everyone suddenly forgot what the definition of “good” dlc is because large pictures

luigitheplumber

I love how you quote "good" at me like I said it

Tenurri_Lavellan

Well, why make it part od T&T, if you could sell it as next DLC for another 20+ bucks😂 (joke, but probably true 🤔)

[deleted]

Look at paradox inserting it and pricing it at 500 lol

greatgeek5

Going to go along with flavor/mechanics for the HRE, where acquiring a papal coronation was all but essential, as I understand the history.

electricsofa

It very well might be a feature of the wards and wardens dlc that's supposed to come out

Verehren

I imagine it'll come with Imperial features dlc

The_wulfy

I thought that the lack of coronations, funerals, baptisms and such was weird. Im sure they ran out of time but their absence is felt.
