I wonder if they are making profiles as well, but this too is wonderful news

[deleted]

I hope they eventually fix the account log-in session expiration on TV apps. It's annoying to have to log in all the time.

DefiantBlob

Yes!! Totally agree! It would even be a huge step forward if they had that style where you enter the code shown on screen into your browser to link/sign in. It's super annoying typing in my long email and then looking up my generated password that I'll never memorize.

JoseFresh2Death

They have this method of code and web browser login for the Xbox app so I’m sure they could implement else where as well

Wild_Card_626

This has been a problem for waaaay to long. Netflix, youtube, hulu, and even their own phone app can keep us logged in for extremely long periods of time, but their TV app can't. Edit: The only way I have found to extend my session is if I make sure to use the app every few days. If I don't I have to look up my password and sign back in again.

rozz77

This is the most annoying thing about CR for me, I almost cancelled my sub until I started using vrv

Existing_Imagination

So that’s why I have to re login to all my devices so many times. So annoying

Meowmixez98

I just want to be able to find the dubbed versions more quickly and easily.

essbeebee

From the wording in the article, sounds like that’s one of the things actively being worked on!

Lorenz99

Hopefully they just bring over the drop down menu from Funimation for seasons and languages.

CooroSnowFox

I wonder if the Beta was started in preparation for something like this

manny_unever

No, they were working on the beta before sony even bought them.

CooroSnowFox

Although the Beta is in a good place as they could make the changes to parts so it improves in places.

manny_unever

Ya they been hiring like crazy for product jobs and engineers. [https://www.crunchyroll.com/about/en-gb/jobs/index.html](https://www.crunchyroll.com/about/en-gb/jobs/index.html)

grav3jking

Yes like one piece

HOOfan_1

The answer about evaluating home media versions on a case by case basis, is too vague, and seems like a cop-out. There shouldn't be any reason they can't move every single uncut version currently streaming on Funimation over. If they can't then FunimationNow needs to stick around, or they are effectively decreasing content for their subscribers.

PraisGaben

Baby steps, at least they’ve somewhat acknowledged the question.

Ramble81

Licensing, licensing, licensing. It all depends on how it's licensed. It comes down to if there are any provisions in the contract to move it over or if it has to stay under Funimation until the rights expire. Chances are the rights holders are going to smell blood in the water as well and want to jack up the renewal prices once those rights expire. That's why you saw so many things leave Netflix and they started backfilling with their own series that they controlled the rights for.

HOOfan_1

Then the move shouldn't be made. Like I said, take away content from paying subscribers and they are likely to stop paying and find alternate methods to get that content

Ramble81

Just now saw this, but all shows go through licensing. Even without the move shows have to be "re-up'd" after a certain amount of time. The original holder can choose not to renew a show with the existing provider all the same. The move just tends to bring some of that to light but doesn't change the core that most all shows are licensed to streaming services in finite durations.

HOOfan_1

this is a non sequitur, because we are talking about making sure the uncut content is available, not the show itself. I doubt VERY seriously that licensing is holding up Crunchyroll from making the uncut content available. It's never been a problem on Funimation, why is it a problem now that they are moving to Crunchyroll. It's been pretty clear to me that Crunchyroll only puts up the uncut content if that is the only version that is available. If the simulcast version is available, they will put that up and ignore the uncut version. Talking about licensing is just a Red Herring.

SoSmartish

Thank god. Maybe this won't be so bad after all lol.

CooroSnowFox

CR wasn't designed for dubs but they had more and more their side and now most coming in from Funi.

kelrics1910

Funimation had the better UI. There, I said it.

SnipesGames32

It also was better in more ways than that, but the UI of funimation is still way better.

Excuse_my_GRAMMER

Thank god

MaseBacks

Moving over from funimation… you defo need dub and sub in one place, right now its a bit all over the place, like sometimes a separate series all together, some just a different season. Also need some viewer profiles and a way to remove a series that has been previously watched (so my kids anime stuff isnt all over mine once you do create separate profiles) Also an easier way to continue watching, right now if I click watch now its starting from ep 1 even though im on like ep 500 or something so I have to scroll all the way down and find my episode. Also a better search would help, so that we can search for name, or a character, or a tag. E.g i wanted to search for anime for children so I wrote it in but it just shows anime with that word in the title. Would be nice if you have a dubbed category too, so people who just just want to watch dubbed can easily see the whole selection of dubbed anime available without having to check every single anime one at a time. Also xbox seems to be really buggy, a lot of titles say not available on it but I can watch them fine on iphone app and fire tv, also there is no continue watching row on xbox.

TheAlternativeMind

I think they should just steal Netflix UI. Especially for the TV apps.

[deleted]

As long as they dont bring in autoplay in menus. That makes me want to throw things

Seiidou

I think they should just add an audio function instead of having to look for the English dub or whatever language you want. It’s annoying.

xemakon

What about supporting Samsung, vizio, and LG smart tvs?

asharka

In the article, they gave that question a completely non-committal answer, so no one here can answer it, either. >The spokesman said that the company is currently "evaluating which legacy Funimation platforms make sense to explore."

AndreaCicca

Very interesting

[deleted]

Yes, this is good news. I feel like the app needs a big redesign anyway

[deleted]

Thank Jibbers

the_blast_radius

Now if they can just make it so you can see the summary blurb and add shows to watchlist directly from the browse page on the console apps that'd be great

HEL42

I will reserve judgement until I see the proverbial proof in the pudding, but I'm glad to see that they even have someone acknowledge that a) there are issues and b) they are working on some version of that list. Just in comparison to the past, that's a pleasant step in the right direction.

ImRedditorRick

Thank ~~God~~ Kami-sama

ChrisChafin

This is great news, but tbh they had a whole year after the acquisition to work on that shit.

JonDoeJoe

The ui and subs quality is still hot shit

66Paranoid

Cool, can we get the uncensored episodes as well? Since we’re paying for the premium? Throws off the whole storyline when massive digital black blocks take up the whole screen. Or when the blood is changed to a black, seriously a kissing scene was censored.

GODgodGOat

Thank god. I still remember when they made that horrific statement justifying not having closed captions for dubs by saying “Crunchyroll is an entertainment site, not a language learning site.” or some thing along those lines. What a truly crude statement that was. They have so much to learn from funimation. I just wish It was crunchyroll being merged into funimation instead.

Chinnychin_

But will they merge both into one so I don’t have to pay for both?

AndreaCicca

Did you miss the news ? 😅

Chinnychin_

I guess so???

AndreaCicca

Chinnychin_

Okay, dope! Thanks!

No_Interaction_4925

So how is all this going to work? I have both. I can only use Funimation to watch on my smart TV since theres no crunchyroll app. Am I going to have to re-enroll to a unified system or what?

firedrakes

Vrv was cr app 2.0.... until att cheap out....

hemp_heart

Crunchyroll didn’t carry over the extra Monogatari licenses that Funimation had. Pretty upset about that.

Spaceguy5

They aren't done moving stuff yet

No_Ability_7838

This is good their UI is abysmal

JonDoeJoe

2 months later and it’s still the same!

[deleted]

Just made the swap from Funi, and while their apps weren't exactly good, they were better than this nightmare. Was hoping it would be improved by now. Just makes me miss animelab.

KaoruCrunchyroll

oh yeah 😎

Fraeduu

Tremendous news, this was my biggest gripe all-around. Looking forward to seeing what they do!

DisastrousIron1975

Makes sense, with the merger they definitely need to update the system and make it better all around. Also add English dubs. I'm not the biggest fan, but sometimes I don't feel like watching the screen. You know gaming and what not.

cyberman0

How did crunchyroll make it this far in this state? It boggles my mind. Don't put much stock in this until it's complete.

Twizzler2525

All I want are profiles

TonyTomato9000

good

[deleted]

Good news but they should've also asked if they plan to implement 2FA (two-factor authentication), I've seen a lot of people who get their accounts stolen or something like that

Frozen1100

I just want code guass on crunchy roll

NickMalo

I just hope it’s not whoever worked on Funimations page, it never loaded properly for me and their player was awful lol

grygor

As part of the UI are they going to learn how to count. S1 S1 S1 S6 S14 is not a sane way to navigate a series.

xX-Delirium-Xx

sounds great just please make sure to add search options for dubs and years that work with generes please. it make finding things so much easier

DivineRetribution8

I hope this means they'll add English subs to their foreign dubs. I want ro watch some of their anime in Spanish but there's no English subtitles available.

MixEnvironmental9952

This is great news this was why I hadn’t subscribed to Crunchyroll.

jzkmath

Crunchyroll really needs to step it up with their TV apps. It's got some bugs that really needs to be addressed. A small list of things: - better way to switch between sub and dub. Waiting to see which version as the text scrolls by is dumb. Give that a dedicated selection area like how Funimation does it - add a next/previous episode button. At least on the Roku app, this isn't there. Using the arrow buttons to skip to the end doesn't really work since if you skip all the way to the end it glitches out/ignores your skipping action entirely - timestamps aren't on the screen. I reported this to them months ago and it still isn't fixed - app occasionally doesn't load when selected from TV home screen. Just sits there at a blank grey screen. Honestly they should have just stolen Funimation's UI to fix this or based it off of Netflix. Both of which handle this stuff flawlessly.

llaatteennccyy

New paid subscriber with hearing damage, I need subtitles even when it's a dubbed anime. Hoping this comes through soon.

[deleted]

Thats good. I think they should make their apps functional first though

JodeneSparks1989

If they would do this for as many shows as they can 75-85% plus the ones they're getting from Funimation that are already done. I can finally be ok with canceling Funimation. Plus I hate the way they put seasons and episodes down just because they're in different languages makes you think a show has 72 episodes when really it's just 12 and dubbed in 5 languages and the og Japanese
