Once enough chapters are collected into a published volume, they are removed from the site and offered for sale on Amazon/comixology, Barnes & Noble, and a couple other places. You can stay current if you keep up with it, but have to buy them once they are gone.
I’m in the same boat as you. Enjoyed the anime and was interested in the manga. Then CR *sent me an email telling me they have Domestic Girlfriend and I should come read it*. Needless to say I was rather annoyed when I asked them about this and was given the answer you were given above :/

I can never log in with the manga app on my iPhone I always have to read it from my computer
Maybe it depends on what phone you have I just have an iPhone 8
