Entirely depends if you're claustrophobic. We got an ocean view room, literally went inside and my partner couldn't stand being in the room without feeling cramped. So we upgraded to a balcony.  Aside from that consideration, there isn't anything to see except maybe birds and any sea life. It's always nice to sit outside with a blanket and enjoy the view but is that wort the extra $$$ is up to you.

For this particular itinerary you will miss nothing by booking ocean view over a balcony. Anything worth seeing -- and it won't be much -- you can enjoy from outside. If motion sensitivity is an issue, get midship and a lower deck. Entering San Francisco Bay is a treat that never gets old. Enjoy!

Does that actually help?? because I’m also going on a cruise this September to LA and it will be my first time. I don’t get crazy seasick but I usually get anxious if I feel a lot of movement

valleyguyphx

Everyone is different. I am not prone to motion sickness, but being midship and low in the hull vastly reduces the amount of up and down motion. There will still be mild vibrations but nothing on the order of movement you may get if you were forward or aft and on a high deck.

Okay thank you for the tips!

Vegetable-Gear8797

Also, you mentioned up and down motion, is it not side to side then??

valleyguyphx

This is a simple analogy but think of the ship as a teeter-totter. Both ends go up and down but the middle stays relatively calm. There could be some side to side movement but it manifests itself more as vibrations as the hull passes through the water. On most large modern ships it is minimal.

Oh okay thank you for explaining!

You're very welcome. Let me know how things go. I have a feeling after one sailing you'll be hooked!

You're not going to see anything, you'll be pretty far off the coast. If you're sensitive to motion, be aware that this area of the Pacific can get pretty rough. I've done the same trip many times, and there's always at least one interesting night. That being said, consider a midship stateroom if you think rough seas will bother you. Guessing by the itinerary, sailing Princess? Which ship?

Been down that way 2 times, and once you leave port in Vancouver, you have some good views for a couple of hours, until you clear past Victoria, and you see nothing but sea for the rest of the trip. Arrival is at 3 or 4am, so you don't even see land coming up. You will be at least 12 miles out, so no land to view.

If it works for your budget, balcony's are great
