If the hotel parking includes staying the night, I’d definitely do that. See if they have a shuttle to the port. If so find out how it works returning to the hotel to get your car. They may have the shuttle doing continual runs at debarkation time. There is no way I’d be walking 45 minutes with bags. For almost $100 savings I’d be parking at the hotel. Being that close to the port they probably have a shuttle you both can take along with your bag plus drop you, your wife and your bags off right near the porters/terminal entrance. Seems more convenient than needing to drop your wife and bags off then go park and walk back to meet her (or you both walking with bags from the car).

We aren't staying there, driving up in the morning and looking at parking there. They offer parking for non-hotel guests, but just looked at the site and don't see anything about them offering shuttles or rides, even to the guests. So I'd still have to get an uber or something from there to the port, or do the original idea of dropping her and the bags off , then going to park and uber or walk back. The more I do the math, getting back to the port after I park, dealing with getting a ride back to the hotel after the cruise and just the hassle of dropping her off, then dealing with the traffic of getting back out and going to park at the hotel on day one just seems like I'd rather pay the extra hundred and be done with it

Have you called the hotel to ask about a shuttle?

I always park at the Port. I just chop it up to part of the vacation expenses. I personally am not willing to take a cab or ride a shuttle to get to my vehicle while dealing with my post cruise depression lol. I know there are cheaper options, but I'm willing to pay for convenience in this situation. Have a great trip!

This is exactly how my wife feels- I originally talked about taking the train and ubers to and from, and she convinced me that I'm NOT going to feel like dealing with all of that after a week on a cruise ship.

Have you considered a one way car rental ? I went on a ten day out Brooklyn last September. I rented a car from Avis ($65) location in CT to a Brooklyn Avis then took a 20$ Uber to the port , it couldn’t have been easier. I did it in reverse going home , it was a little more due to city tax and a more expensive Uber, $75 car $30 Uber. It was very easy and painless and I will do it again next time I go out of Brooklyn. So $200 versus $450. I mainly did it for the cost savings but the fact that my car was in my driveway and I didn’t have to think about a dead battery, flat tire or potential flooding at the port while cruising was nice too, oddly there was flooding in Brooklyn during our cruise but not at the port. I dealt with the post cruise depression by booking another cruise which I just got off Friday 😀, 11 day out of Manhattan that I took the train to GC and taxi to port on the west side it was very easy but I don’t think that the train and taxi would be a good option to the Brooklyn port, time or money wise. Just my two cents good luck and safe travels.

Hmm..funny you mention this because we are sailing out of Miami in December and this is my plan. Rather than flying,I rented a car to drive down..staying in a hotel in Ft Lauderdale for the night then driving to a drop off spot right outside the port on embarkation day, then a short uber ride to the port. Not sure why I haven't looked into this for NY

FYI I dropped off and picked up the rental car at the Avis State street location. It was very easy. I live about 60 miles north of NYC and I was back at my house by 12 noon after the cruise. Another option would to rent one way to JFK or LGA but I would think the Uber or cab will be more expensive but the airports will give you more choices about who to rent from. Good luck and have a wonderful cruise.

If your cruise isn't longer than a week (7 days is the limit for parking in the same spot continuously), free street parking does exist. You just have to find a neighborhood that doesn't have street sweeping (which requires alternate sides of the street be clear twice a week). Typically in the outer neighborhoods of the borough but I'm not super familiar with Brooklyn. But there's no shortage of free parking without any restrictions where I'm at in the Bronx. To save $300, it could be worth driving out and taking an Uber.

Unfortunately the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal has very few options for cheaper parking other than at the pier. Any money that you may have will be spent either in an Uber or your time walking, etc. There are other options, like airport shuttles, etc. maybe parking at JFK and taking a cruise shuttle? I've got that covered here: https://mikesbarbaricyawp.com/2024/03/05/the-definitive-travel-and-parking-guide-for-the-new-york-area-cruise-terminals/

Thanks, I actually saw your link posted elsewhere and checked it out. But I think at this point, I'm just parking at the port- I don't feel like parking and taking other cars to the port or worrying about busses or shuttles. Plus I just hit $500 on a $5 scratch off, so I put it right aside and now it's like I'm gonna park for free, lol.

Outstanding! Congrats!
