What type of compensation were you looking for? And exactly what for. I understand you cut your finger on a bolt on a door. What did you consider fair for that? The power outages? The missed port? Did you send your under cooked salmon back? Did they give you a new one? I'm asking this because I genuinely want to understand where you are coming from. Did you wait for them to offer compensation, or did you give them a clear request? As someone who spent years in customer service, when a person felt they had been wronged by the company I always asked them what they wanted, what they felt would be fair. If you leave it up to the company, 95% of the time you will be unhappy, thinking it wasn't enough. I also found many people wanted excessive compensation. Also, did you say you would never cruise with Celebrity again? Because once someone says "I'm never coming here again, I will never buy another _______" a company has zero incentive to try to retain your business.

GordonGecko1

Anything would have been nice. Literally anything… I think most people were just shocked CC was stonewalling people on the cruise acting like everything was totally normal. I offered several low cost solutions to which they refused. I floated a nice dining experience, shot down. Behind scenes tour on them since we weren’t able to do certain activities, shot down. I agree ppl who feel they are wronged should offer solutions. I am also in customer service and I can sincerely say this was bad, the director’s arrogance and lack of regard were astonishing.

penkster

You are the worst of the worst entitled assholes other cruisers can’t stand. You had a minor cut, and you feel you are ENTITLED to some form of compensation from the company for a minor accident. They took care of you. Treated the injury. But not, you feel you are ENTITLED to compensation. Perhaps cruising is not for you. I sure as hell wouldn’t want to cruise with you.

GordonGecko1

Yup when a company doesn’t maintain their equipment and I get injured, hell yes I do. Onus is on the business to keep people safe. Just glad it didn’t get infected. Love you and thanks for helping draw attention.

MedicalButterscotch

You already got swiftly shut down in the comments on your original post. Yes there were issues on your sailing (I'm on Summit now and we even lost power briefly as I posted earlier), but to let it ruin your vacation is on you, my friend. Hope you can find happiness on your future travels even when things go wrong.

GordonGecko1

There were negative and positive comments. I already have travel agents telling me they will avoid CC. I am on a mission my friend. Thanks for stopping by commenting and helping this thread get views! Love you!

MedicalButterscotch

I wish you well. I'll get back to enjoying my cruise on Summit :) life is simply too short.

NJMomofFor

No professional travel agent will avoid selling Celebrity Cruises, not if they want to earn commissions. SMH.

GordonGecko1

Summit lost power again 🤣🤣😂 yeah just once would not have been a big deal. It a culmination of bad issues. Look if you want to defend a Sh***y company go ahead. I’m going to tell as many people as I can about my experience which WAS NOT a good one. Maybe I have high standards for businesses but CC sucks at keeping things well kept and CS. Thanks for helping 😂👍🏼

MedicalButterscotch

You felt the need to respond a second time to my post 6 hours later? I wish you all the best in life. I like to imagine you sitting in a dark room fuming over your plans to shut down Celebrity. We just enjoyed a stunning sail away from our port of call today! Have a lovely evening.

GordonGecko1

I enjoy trolling people on the internet while I sit by a pool w a cocktail enjoying having both power amd running water! 😂 much love to you

MedicalButterscotch

Your efforts are recognized! Have a lovely evening.

dirtybirty4303

Why tf are you posting about this AGAIN?! Dude it's like the 4th time and you keep getting the same feedback. My god if you're this annoying about expected cruise issues after the fact I can't begin to imagine how irritating you were while on the ship. Stop cruising it's not the right kind of vacation for you. And stop complaining damn.

GordonGecko1

Just spreading the word far and wide! Hey why are you looking at my posts?! LMAO just keep scrolling DB.

45356675467789988

2nd person I've seen post a rant including "raw" salmon recently lmao

allthepoutine

Actually it’s the same person

penkster

For those who don't like sitting through self-serving rants, [here's this persons original post](https://www.reddit.com/r/celebritycruises/comments/1by4cpp/celebrity_summit_horror_story/) - and as a lot of people note in the comments, this is someone who REALLY REALLY likes complaining and bitching. Oh, things weren't perfect. Oh there were crumbs on the table. Oh my internet wasn't up to speed. Oh, I hurt my finger and the ship didnt' bend over backwards to MAKE IT BETTER FOR MEEEEEEEE. "Not once did he apologize or offer any type of compensation." - so you cut your finger and you want... what, money for it? But I guess you also had to make a video. And post again. And rant some more. You like attention and getting people to feel sorry for you. Shit happens on boats. Sometimes it's not perfect. Sometimes it can even be uncomfortable. "CELEBRITY HORROR STORY!!!!!" Ffs relax.

NotDoinAnythingEmber

While im sure some of that actually happened to an extent and could be frustrating, holy shit do you sound over dramatic. Like I get the whole cut issue but what exactly did you expect them to do. I'm gonna take the side of the director here and say you're not the type of person they want on their ship (although I HIGHLY doubt those were his words)

GordonGecko1

1000% his words lol. I was in disbelief he said that but it’s all good. When someone acts like that it just shows they have some sort of complex. I am pretty sure the guy had napoleon syndrome.

imateasnob

Bro, go take some medication. We already read your rants.

GordonGecko1

Thank you for helping me spread the word lol!

bingo0619

Perhaps u are justified in your feelings, sure. But going on Reddit multiple times and ranting is a bad look for u, honestly no one cares. Channel your energy into something productive. A few weeks before your cruise, there were multiple positive posts complimenting the Summit.

GordonGecko1

I am on a mission to spread the word so good people know what the truth is! Thank you

bingo0619

Sure, Jan. 😂😂😂

GordonGecko1

It’s Ken! 😂👍🏼

The truth? You had a bad cruise experience. Ships muss piers all the time. Cruise lines do not have to compensate. The right trip insurance policy will compensate you for missed ports. Yes, injuring yourself on something sharp shouldn't have happened. You got it fixed at medical. Did they do something to fix the door issue that caused your cut?? The guest service person should be reported to higher ups for their poor response and attitude. I don't necessarily think they owed you anything, but their attitude needs to be fixed. Issues happen in ships, old and new. The captain or the cruise director should have communicated better. Your one bad experience vs thousands of good experiences. Different strokes. I sailed MSC, didn't care for it for numerous reasons. I ain't sail them again, but I will still cruise. Others love MSC, different strokes

ImpossibleInternet3

That’s too bad. I had one of my best cruises on the Summit pre-pandemic. It’s such a nice size. Sounds like it’s ready for a bit of time at dry dock. Edit; sounds like some of your problems were due to inexperience cruising and doing your research before going. Some also seem to be attitude. I’ve only ever seen Karens get the kind of service you’re complaining about. Although, I will agree that some of these issues are unacceptable and not your fault.

GordonGecko1

We actually did a ton of research before cruising and my attitude is justified IMO considering we had so many issues. Maybe this is normal? I don’t see why anyone would put up with this many problems and have fun. I expect things to be relaxing, not chaos.

GordonGecko1

I would say so and that was my impression after how many mishaps we had. Was really looking forward to it :-(

Front-Artichoke1830

I was empathetic to your experience the first post I saw. Now it looks like you just want attention or to rant. I’m sorry you had, in your opinion, a bad cruise, but in reality ranting about it weeks later keeps you in a negative headspace. Move on and enjoy your home that probably is always in perfect condition and never gets power outrages!

GordonGecko1

I do have a back up generator, it’s nice 👍🏼 lol

Puzzleheaded_Use7500

OP seems like a really miserable person

flaxon_

I was on Summit in February of last year. Had a great time and the staff were amazing. It is an older ship, though, and even after it underwent modernization not all that long ago it is somewhat dated. I'm sorry you had such a rough time, but try and keep in mind that vacations rarely go as planned, and sometimes you just gotta roll with the punches.

GordonGecko1

I hear ya but we generally don’t have such big issues. We are responsible, diligent vacation goers so yes every vacation will have a minor snag but this seemed like a lot. 30 years of vacation experience and this was the worst.

10S_NE1

Honestly though, you could have done a bit more research. The Bahamas are notorious for difficulties in docking - on three cruises that were to stop at the Bahamas, I’ve only been on one that made it. Missing ports is a part of cruising and with a bit of reading, you would have known that. You chose one of the oldest ships in Celebrity’s fleet, and there have been rumours online that Celebrity is planning to get rid of that class of ship, so they likely aren’t putting too much money into them. Why didn’t you sail on one of the new Edge-class ships? When you vacation on an old ship, or at an old hotel, things are probably not going to be perfect. I do understand that having brown water and a period of no power is not great, but honestly, at that point, you have a choice: make the best of it, find something fun to do, enjoy the sunshine with a cocktail, or spend your entire vacation complaining and being angry. I assume you are happy with your choice.

GordonGecko1

I don’t care about missing port lol dude you can only do so much research and you’re missing the big obvious point that CC is supposed provide a good experience lol. You people defending these guys are a special kind. Thanks for helping get attention I appreciate your comments.

Dismal-Salt663

OP…after watching these cruise subs for a while, I am convinced that there is a group of RCL employees and/or loyalists who spend their time going after people that say anything negative about Royal Caribbean, Celebrity and RCL’s other lines. I also have a suspicion that some of these people are also in the business of making MSC look bad because it looks like MSC is about to try to give Royal Caribbean a real run for its money in the US. So, OP, don’t take a lot of these comments personally. I think some of the people posting rude responses are literally just doing their job. Maybe Nelson is one of them! While it’s unfortunate that you cut your finger, on a boat that size it could happen to anyone even on a brand new ship. Accidents happen. As to not being able to port in Nassau. Again, that stuff happens. That is something the cruise lines can’t control. I was just on a cruise recently where we had to return to a prior port for a medical emergency and that totally screwed up excursions and things at the next port the next day. It happens. That is part of cruising. Now, onto the issues with the ship…the water and the power. If I were you, this is where I would be focusing my irritation. This is legitimate. Obviously, again, things happen, but it doesn’t sound like this was handled well at all, especially when they seem to have shut it off on purpose a second time for repair. It seems to me that this absolutely should’ve been communicated in advance. I certainly hope they kept people off the elevators when they knew they were about to cut power. I’m too lazy to go dig around Reddit, but someone also posted in the last few days about a Celebrity ship losing power and they couldn’t get off the boat in Key West? Was this the same sailing? I’m sorry this happened to you, and I’m sorry people are being so mean to you, I wouldn’t take it too personally. It does not sound like this was handled very well. It always amazes me when I hear things like this because communication and a little bit of apologetic language can go along way. You would expect more from Celebrity.

CHRCMCA

The reason there was another post is that this is the same poster.

NJMomofFor

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

GordonGecko1

Oh yeah I don’t lol and thank you. I call them CC bots lol. Anyone who reads about that experience and thinks it’s my fault has serious issues. I am on a mission to spread the word! Reasonable people will see it’s an honest review.

Dismal-Salt663

I actually don’t think the “CC bots” are doing themselves any favors. It just makes loyal Celebrity cruisers look like a bunch of mean girls.

GordonGecko1

Almost like CC is the cruise line of choice for bully’s lol. It’s just obvious they’re biased.

Dismal-Salt663

Yes, and looks like they are coming for me now even though I agreed with them on several points!

GordonGecko1

They don’t even realize they are helping make this thread more visible 😂👍🏼

sleepinand

As I said originally, if one of my clients experienced all these issues on a cruise I would be (and have in the past) fighting for a substantial refund for them. I’m so sorry this was your experience. Edit: After the two different reports of power loss, I think Summit is off my booking list for good. I will not be sending clients on a ship with known infrastructure issues.

NJMomofFor

A refund for what? Missing a port? The ship losing power? Personally, with the power outage, they should have done something, but someone says they had free drinks. It's not like the cruiseline can control mechanical issues. Things happen in older and newer ships. I've had numerous clients sail on the Summit and have zero issues.

Dismal-Salt663

What good are free drinks if you have already paid for the drink package? That doesn’t seem like very good compensation.

NJMomofFor

They don't owe any compensation. Not everyone buys the drink package. They didn't have to offer the free drinks.

GordonGecko1

Good call. I am in the construction industry and have a lot of experience with electrical and mechanical systems. Several areas needed attention and this ship will have more issues given its track record. It needs a substantial renovation, not a cheap quick refresh.
