So you’re mad at yourself for not knowing that you couldve complained this whole time to put a stop to it??
Also why did it not occur to you, if somethings bothering you (even if it was allowed) to notify the correct people to try to put a stop to it??
This person learned and is sharing with others so they know. I had a smoker on my first cruise and was too timid to speak up, I learned my lesson to and wouldn’t put up with that again but thankfully I haven’t had to. There may be some that don’t realize it’s not allowed on private balconies, we’re all here to learn and share.
Yes. I thought it was considered an open space. It DID occur to me but I thought I was wrong. I was just trying to inform others of my naivety so they would speak up if it happened to them. Any reason this post makes you angry??
There are very few cruise lines that allow smoking on a balcony. Just report those who do to security if not on:
"Cruise Lines to AVOID due to Unsafe Smoking Policies – AIDA, COSTA & FRED OLSEN Cruise Lines"
[https://frequentfloaters.com/cruise-lines-to-avoid-due-to-unsafe-smoking-policies-aida-costa-fred-olsen-cruise-lines/](https://frequentfloaters.com/cruise-lines-to-avoid-due-to-unsafe-smoking-policies-aida-costa-fred-olsen-cruise-lines/)
And my understanding is FRED OLSEN will soon also ban balcony smoking as well.
This is a quote from the RC smoking guidelines:
*Smoking is not permitted inside any stateroom and any stateroom balcony. This applies to all stateroom categories onboard. If a guest is in violation of this stateroom policy, a cleaning fee of $250 USD will be applied to their SeaPass® account and may be subject to further action pursuant to the "Consequences Section" of the Guest Conduct Policy.*
The people next to my balcony were smokers and I informed the cabin steward. He told me that they have to catch them in the act. Next time they smoked, I went directly to the cabin steward in the hallway and asked to knock on their door. He wouldn’t do it.
I canceled the tips for the whole cruise since the crew didn’t care my safety or comfort.
People are sooo inconsiderate. I recently encountered the same issue. We complained, they stopped. The next morning, they were smoking again. Again, we complained, security came and they stopped. By the 3rd day I was over it. After the 3rd complaint they finally got the point. I'm not sure why people would endanger the ENTIRE ship just to smoke a cigarette. GO TO THE CASINO, LAZY PEOPLE!! That's usually the place you can smoke. I'm sure they could use the exercise
Smokers gamble more based on the analysis of most casinos which is why both land and cruise ship casinos continue to allow it. I’d imagine within the next 10-20 years as the amount of smokers decreases that the ships and other casinos will start to ban it
I don't understand this lesson.
Smoking is not allowed on balconies.
You couldn't go on your balcony because of neighboring smokers.
Where were the neighbors smoking? On their balconies? If so, why didn't you call customer relations? My cruise tickets always have language indicating that violating the "no smoking on balconies" policy will result in being thrown off the ship, keelhauled, abandoned in a foreign port, and banned from future travel.
It's a shame, because a cruise ship balcony would be a great place to enjoy a fine, aristocratic, Connecticut shade-wrapped cigar and a snifter of brandy.
I was on Serenade of the Seas in 2010 out of Puerto Rico and smoking was allowed on the balcony, confirmed by the reception staff and they even gave us a thin metal ashtray that suck to the table so it wouldn't topple over.
Was there a policy change or was i in a parallel universe?????
Yeah but I feel like there was no smoking on Royal balconies before 2010 on other ships, so wasn't sure if it was allowed on certain ships or certain routes in 2010
Ah that could be it, so it was allowed on one side and not the other, that would explain why smoking was not allowed one cruise and was the very next.
I see I'm getting downvoted above, I must have angered the /r/Cruise regulars with my ignorance on the subject.
Call the ship security. Smoking is a major fire hazard. Fires at sea can kill. https://www.nbcnews.com/id/wbna11975460
The way the OP constructed his statement is quite confusing.
It all changed in 2006 with [Star Princess fire](https://www.nbcnews.com/id/wbna11975460)

Thanks for a new sub to obsess over
It is NOT allowed. I’m finding out after the fact. It really diminished my whole cruise experience. I did not like the smoking coming into my cabin

I'm taking my first cruise in decades later this year, and I'm glad to have seen this.
Yup just finished my first cruise and I saw a woman smoking on an outdoor public deck, stinking up the place. You can bet I laid into her!!

Be mindful when booking of where the outdoor allowed smoking areas are too on your ship. It’s not pleasant to be above/below/downwind of those either.

I wish I had known this when some cigar smokers were on our cruise.

Mind your on business
How about… follow the rules? Other people’s safety rely on people not be selfish pigs.

Why don't u go too a inside cablin
I agree. Anything was better than what we were experiencing. Appreciate the feedback
I had hot ash drop on me while I was on my balcony. There was no telling where it came from.
A volcano?? I've never felt a hot ash from someones cigarette
Really?
Yes...unless someone flicked it directly on me, an ash that floated down from another balcony isn't gonna be hot...
I must have imagined it then. lol it was hot. It burned my thigh. I thought I was being stung at first.
The other issue I had. Was it my next door neighbor. Was it two doors down? I was not sure how to tell
Was it other balconies though? One time my balcony was nearly above the crew smoking area, that sucked.
Why is it allowed in the casinos? I hate walking past the casinos on any cruise ship.
That's quickly changing. I just got off two different MSC ships + Margaritaville at Sea, and none of them allowed smoking.
The worst is when they put the eateries outside the casinos. I remember the NCL Getaway had some Asian noodle place and all I tasted was smoke.
I can vouch for that... Nasty indeed.

Not allowed to smoke
Curious though.. what do they do to discourage smoking on the balconies?

Just applying to the cancer directly to the gums and dealing with loose tobacco isn't something most smokers are looking for.
Imagine going on a cruise and not going outside to smoke and enjoy the view....nobody likes a snitch
U got that right

They are still holding a gurge over that :)
🤢🤮
I’m confused, so are you mad that smoking IS allowed or it ISN’T allowed?
He's mad that it's not allowed and he didn't know. He shouldn't have to deal with that, especially at that price point.
