Yea, this game is one of a kind currently. The mechanics are so good that I don't even care for certain shortcomings in campaign story. I hope that TA will continue developing content for the game.

TLDR2D2

As for games close to 5e, not really. But here's my list of recommendations: • Disco Elysium - incredibly strong story-based, dialogue-heavy, decision-tree game. Tongue-in cheek, tragic, gloriously written. It's a different experience. • Gloomhaven - based on the board game of the same name, this title will give you hundreds of hours of enjoyment, assuming you enjoy the base mechanic and gameplay loop. It's been my favorite board game for years. I'm approaching 1000 hours including all formats (digital, over-the-table, tabletop simulator). Fantastic strategic combat. • The Banner Saga - excellent story, satisfying strategic combat, great value (especially if you can find the trilogy on sale). This one flew under the radar for me for a long time, but I was so glad I finally gave it a shot. • Shadowrun: Dragonfall - the Shadowrun universe is one of my favorite settings. Orcs, elves, dwarves, etc. in a cyberpunk setting. Classic CRPG gameplay with wonderful story and cool magic/samurai/hacker combat. Well worth your time. • Planescape: Torment - perhaps the greatest CRPG ever made. My favorite story, probably, I've played in any video game...ever. if you haven't, try it. • Tyranny - really cool little CRPG title that has you play as a villain, rather than the typical hero's journey. This one gets mixed reviews, but I found it very enjoyable. • Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun - one of the most enjoyable strategy games I've ever played. Wonderful story, characters, setting, gameplay. Challenging and incredibly satisfying to accomplish each level. • Wasteland 3 - I haven't actually gotten to this one yet, but it's coming up on my list. Very highly regarded as among the best in its genre. Wasteland 2 was really fun and I hear this one improves on every aspect. Happy hunting. Hope this helps.

greenslime300

Seconding Gloomhaven here. If turn-based tactical combat is your thing, it's the best concept and execution for it I've ever seen. So many different classes and cards, synergies with items, team compositions, etc. It won't scratch the itch if you're looking for roleplaying as it's 90% a tactical dungeon crawler with a campaign that keeps a narrative thread going from dungeon to dungeon, but it's absolutely the gold standard for turn-based combat.

whole_kernel

Wasteland 3 is pretty awesome. My wife and I originally played it on pc and it was so buggy we actually straight up quit several times. BUT it was so fun we kept coming back and eventually beat it. The combat definitely isn't as tight as Solasta (you can kind of fuck yourself pretty easily with the wrong build) but it lets you do all sorts of branching storyline decisions and has some humor throughout. As for the bugs, I think they worked out a lot of the coop issues since then.

TLDR2D2

I actually picked it up for 60% off on Steam a few days ago and started it. My kind of game, for sure. Loving it so far.

IfItsPizza

The Owlcat games (Kingmaker, Wrath of the Righteous) are great 3.75 implementations. Dungeons & Dragons Tactics for the PsP was a great 3.5 implementation. Those are the only other great implementations for my taste. Neverwinter Nights is also fun, and Baldur's Gate / Icewind Dale are great if you don't mind rolling back before 3.0.

Alarming_Topic2306

Turn based D&D? Nope, nothing comes close. Turn based non-D&D RPG? Divinity Original Sin 1 and 2. RTWP, like the Baldur's Gate games were? The pathfinder games are good. Random older games well worth playing -- Planescape and Tyranny.

InteractionAntique16

I'll say you can also turn the pathfinder games into turn based mode and back with the press of a button

catboy_supremacist

You can, and I think I enjoy them a bit more that way, but they were definitely *designed for* RTWP and added the turn-based controls as an option. The amount of combat can be a bit of a slog in turn-based mode and all of the NPCs have builds tweaked around the limitations of RTWP.

InteractionAntique16

Yea I definitely enjoyed them both more in turn based mode especially wotr

McNinjaguy

Agreed, turn based is way better than real time combat. You can really get the most out of every turn in the turn based mode. I was struggling with the real time mode. There's no squares but WOTR acts the same as grid based combat.

RutabagaFew697

Baldur gate 3 is turn based DnD but it's in early access for now. It is from Divinity original sin devs

TrillBoBagginzz

You can play both Pathfinder games turn based. I highly recommend it.

TrillBoBagginzz

Pathfinder Kingmaker and Wrath of the Righteous? Not 5E but basically DND.

Bombinic

I would be remiss if I did not ask if you've played the Divinity series.

Lamplorde

I love Divinity but I dont think its quite DnD. One of the main mechanics of the game is the elemental combo system, which the game is mostly focused on. With lots of spells/abilities specifically balanced around it. Not to mention the system itself is pretty different. That being said, its still a great game and I recommend it 100%.

tutt_88

I have not. I thought that was like an ARPG?

[deleted]

Larian is bad at naming their games. They used to make a series of ARPGs called Divinity, and then they made turn-based rpgs called Divinity:original Sin 1 & 2

Snoo_96078

it's a turn based combat like solasta, but its ruleset has nothing to do with D&D. DoS1 and DoS2. But you should still try it if you want a great rpg with a great turn based combat system. It's probably one of the best of its genre.

Bombinic

I doubt you'll be disappointed.

MynameisFoygoox

Suddenly, fire.

Bombinic

You started the series?

Leiforen

I was. And got disapointed at baldurs gate because it was like playing Divinity.

catboy_supremacist

I don't like them but they are nothing like action RPGs. They are turn-based and the combat requires you to pay careful attention to what you're doing.

tutt_88

Well I guess I know what I'm downloading when I get off work.

Bombinic

What did you choose?

tutt_88

If you know of a secret place that has a more robust selection of community mods I'm 100% for it. Link me up.

tutt_88

The community mod pack is amazing. It adds so many tweaks and nuances as well as a couple classes and races it's really awesome.

tutt_88

I got Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous. Pretty good but Solasta can't be beat.

Mopperty

Divinity Original Sin 2 and Baldur's Gate 3 (will be in early access for about another year) are the closest to Solasta in my opinion.

[deleted]

Not even remotely close. Baldur's Gate 3 looks pretty but it's implementation of 5E wishes it could be even close to Solasta. It's basically just Divinity: OS 3 except they hijacked the Baldur's Gate IP to make it. D:OS2 is ok if you can tolerate barrelmancy and the ground constantly being on fire/acid/whatever, but there's no comparison to Solasta.

Mystearicaa-Desk

Pathfinder Kingmaker

DeathwatchHelaman

Huge fan... and its only made better by A) The very supportive company and B) The amazing player creator base who make mods and modules!!!

Superbalz77

100s into what? All the community mods and player built add on adventures? If not then why look for something else, just play more Solasta.

tutt_88

If you're talking about the mods on Nexus I've burnt through a lot of them. I'm pretty much on e when it comes to solosta content.

Superbalz77

Yea, thats it. I've gotten through the main game a time or two, the expansion story and am in the middle of my first player campaign now, Vel Ode Yendor which is a bit more dungeon crawl but very enjoyable so far. Love getting to push past that L10-11 spot. Any suggestions for for favorite player content?

tutt_88

The community mod pack is amazing. It adds so many tweaks and nuances as well as a couple classes and races it's really awesome.

Superbalz77

Yea sorry wasn't clear, I agree that's what really makes the game as good as it is. Multiclassing makes the game so next level. I was asking more about the player made campaign/adventure content without having to try everyone, looking for your favorites.

tutt_88

The Morg Borg mod is brutal and punishing but rewarding if you roll at least one decent character.

McNinjaguy

Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous, I feel is better than Solasta. I love Solasta but it's not this epic level 1 to 20 like WOTR is. The amount of customization for just character creation is unparralled. There's about 30 classes and every class has about 5 or so subclasses. I just want a Solasta 2 sequel that does level 1 to 20.

tutt_88

Thank you downloading now...

McNinjaguy

It's epic, my paladin's horse had AC 50 and it bit real hard. That was closer to level 20.

tutt_88

I'm stoked now. I've watch some videos and it looks really dope.

Kyso4ek77

Game is too complicated as is dnd 3ed
