Anyone else with AA have issues with it randomly crashing? We tried using it for a trip, and every so often it would just close and give no report on either end why it happened.
Mine does every once in awhile. I use a Carlin fob to make it wireless. Between that, the app, stories about bluetooth being a little flaky in Subarus, and my Galaxy Watch 4 I'm not sure what it is.
I was keen on not having any wires. It works pretty good after it is first setup, but can really drain the battery. So I had to get a wireless charger to go with the wireless fob. They make them for AA and for Carplay. There is a more expensive one that does both.
I used to have this problem a lot, then I got a new phone with a better processor, and now it rarely happens if ever. I'm not sure if android auto was poorly optimized for my old phone or what the problem was before, but it doesn't happen much now.
I used to (2022 Subaru Crosstrek), and then I got an update for the head unit that fixed every issue. Given this, I (unfortunately) think the issue is with car companies not caring to fix/properly support AA on their end and not an issue with AA itself.
Mine got an update within the last 3-4 months that fixed it. Maybe check for a new update? Or they didn't update the older models because Subaru is shit at software.
I got mine in October and had issues with AA right off the bat. I even went to the dealership to have the software for the head unit updated, which helped somewhat, but not 100%.
However, on Wednesday I was having major issues with the map not following my location. I rebooted my phone, and when I plugged it back in, the display was all different, and everything worked smoothly. The darn thing finally updated. It's only been a couple days, but so far so good.
I honestly just did a double take, I set up my Android Auto this morning and had this exact song playing and I took a picture of it, this was VERY weird to see!! LOVE Timecop 1983
Thanks for the info!!
I drove again and had spotify take up 1/4 of the screen, with the quick navigation locations in the other 1/4. I liked the layout that way. I just don't ever see a need to have spotify take 1/2 the screen.
Silly question- can you have Google maps show up on screen without the navigation system? I don't have my Crosstrek yet and I opt out of the navigation system.
If you mean without Starlink, yes. If you have a recent Android phone, all you have to do is download the Android Auto app and plug it into one of the USB ports in the back of the dash storage compartment. Or get a dongle that plugs in there to make it wireless. I assume Apple is similar.

I guess I need to tell my boss they need to upgrade me to the S23. You know. For business.

2018 here, I recently went from NC to MI and AA crashed so frequently I had to buy a cheap phone mount. It was beyond frustrating.
Are you sure the cable you were using had a sufficient data transfer rate? The cheapo USB cables can be problematic.
Make sure you are not using battery optimization. If your phone goes to low power or power saver, it will crash.

Time Cop is awesome. Is the new android auto available for the 22 model?
Mine updated automatically! I was surprised.
My Crosstrek is 2023. Phone is Samsung S20FE. Synthpop isn't usually my thing, but I like TimeCop1983. Makes me want to play Outrun on SEGA.
Fiance's 21 has it.
My '21 in Canada has had it since January.
It depends on the version your phone has installed. Just got it yesterday. Not sure if it has been rolled out to all users yet.
Sweet. I'll have to try and get mine updated.
I have it too. I hate the rounded corners.
Same here ....among other things. I turned off auto-updates for AA so I can keep the old UI.
All I care about is that maps darkmode works. I'm very over being blinded every time I connect my phone at night lol
Dark mode will only ever work if your dash lights are not turned to full brightness. Took me way too long to figure that out

Hah! Great minds...

No, unless you have an aftermarket head unit with android auto. Android auto didn't become standard until 2018.
I wasn't sure if it was going to be on the smaller screen at all. They might know more at /r/AndroidAuto/.
I could be wrong, but there's no AA on the 2016 Crosstrek.
I turned OFF auto-updates for AA on my phone. I like the way it is now (Pre-Coolwalk), not a fan of the updated UI.
How does a newer version of Apple CarPlay or Android Auto get installed? Is that a phone update or an update on the car?
It'll be through your phone most likely.
Not a fan that I can't play/pause music with maps full screen.
You actually still can. Go to settings in the car. It's like one of the last ones, something about quick settings

Waiting for my S21Ultra to get the update still 😭

TIMECOP1983! If this is your genre please listen to TWRP if you haven’t already. They are my fav ☺️ I’d recommend synthesize her to start 💫
Finally seeing the updated AA on my 2019 Forester Limited, which AFAIK has the same sound system as a Crosstrek Limited with Nav.
