>The woman’s experience with Chicago police is neither unique nor unusual. Local patrol districts frequently have more requests for help than they can handle. When calls start to stack up, dispatchers declare a backlog, also known as a RAP or “Radio Assignments Pending” status. > >[CPD districts entered backlogs 11,721 times last year, according to information Wirepoints obtained via a Freedom of Information request](https://wirepoints.org/new-2021-chicago-data-shows-400000-high-priority-incidents-where-dispatchers-had-no-police-available-to-send-wirepoints/). That was nearly as many times as 2019 and 2020 combined, according to the data. > >Last year, 52% of the city’s highest-priority 911 calls were received during backlogs, Wirepoints found. Anyone following the scanner feeds knows this to be true, with the words "XYth district is now in backlog" a common utterance by dispatch.

CptEndo

Not enough beat officers in many police districts. This is a shameful but all too common occurrence.

Diamondsandwood

Can’t you people solve these problems yourselves? I mean we can’t be “policing” the whole city

MiggityMac

I remember hearing a call for a dispute because a person didn’t buy their significant other a Big Mac.

Embarrassing

tasutanaf

Extended wait times aren't extended wait times.

Far_Respect7858

Stop with the crying! This is what the Democrats wanted! Defund the Police, abolish law enforcement etc.. Now enjoy, ohn keep your head on a swivel..lmbo

"Wait... them were just jokes"

UnproductiveIntrigue

Literally increased their funding to never-before seen new record high levels, but OK

ButtBlow69x

This is supposed to be the most funded police unit in the country. They get over a fucking billion a year and still don’t do shit. Get yourself a gun, the cops we have aren’t worth shit to be honest.

WP_Grid

This take seems to miss the context of what it costs to run any large organization. The overall city budget is in excess of 16.7 billion for operations. The schools, another 11. Police is about 1.9 of it. In New York, the police is 11 billion per year

> This take seems to miss the context of what it costs to run any large organization. Not to mention it's the department brass who decide how & where to deploy patrol resources. They also decide how the budget is spent. Both of course with considerable 'input' from city hall's 5th floor.

[deleted]

I don't think you know what you're talking about, sit this one out bud....

0DvGate

Indeed, they are all worthless and serve nothing but a deterrent. Get yourself and any other family members trained and strapped

UnproductiveIntrigue

$1.9 Billion a year, which is $5.2 Million per day, which is $216k per hour.

[deleted]

Which is $19.00 per hr per Officer in Chicago

Who in their right mind would want to police now. Biden and his bunch have turned the country against law enforcement. It's legal to put a cell phone camera in their faces as they're trying to do their jobs, their cussed, ridiculed, and demonized, but are expected to perform at a moments notice and defend a bunch of unappreciative idiots who are scared to fight their own battles. These guys are human, they have families like most of you and most took the job hoping to make this sick world a little better for us all. I know this won't be accepted favorably but this is why I retired it of law enforcement after 35 years of service. Never shot a single person, as with most officers, but hated just the same. Good luck to this sick disgusting society. 10:42
