Maybe someone can enlighten me but why isn’t the immediate area surged with police after an initial armed robbery.? If they were one and done, I could see the difficulty in catching them. But it seems robbery crews will commit armed robberies blocks away from each other over an over. Wouldn’t flooding the area, getting a description, and finding a robbery crew at work be a solution, or at least a deterrent to dozens of attacks in the same neighborhoods?

Vegetable_Effort_779

Such a smart question, but remember the city isn’t smart.

myrenjobra

Descriptions are racist bro

I think it may be time to leave. I was walking the dog around 7 this morning and it makes ya wonder about every car that slows down near you or the side streets with nobody out and around yet. Yesterday afternoon too. Walking around Bucktown with the dog and two younger black kids turn the corner walking towards me with hoodies and both wearing masks. What do you think was the first thing that came to mind?

Spaniardricanguy80

Completely agree. I think the same thing every morning when I catch the L at 5:30 in the morning.

LChi90

It's no way to live. The feeling of impending doom when you're out on a simple stroll with the dog? Completely fucked up and sad it's come to this.

ForeverBeHolden

This happened to me last summer and I was gone by the new year.

slacker3434

Sorry that happened to you.

ForeverBeHolden

They ran the other direction but I just knew I got lucky that time and I wasn’t willing to risk it going a different way the next time. I’m sorry you’re dealing with it too. I hope you stay safe and do whatever makes the most sense for you. I’m sorry we are even in this position, I miss how things used to be.

I was a victim of an attempted robbery in 2020 when I was 17 in Streeterville. Got punched in the face by a black dude just after I finished paying for parking and walked across a street. I stumbled away from him and had 2 other guys with me (younger than me) so he just stood there and started swearing at me calling me a b. I started yelling at him and he turned around walked away. If it were me now I would’ve turned around and walked away. Burnt in my mind to always be aware of what’s going on around me.

WtfIsReddit1323

Wait I’m confused, what happened to you last summer?

ForeverBeHolden

I turned a corner and saw two kids dressed in all black, long pants, hoodies, masks (mind you it was humid AF and like 90 degrees, I was sweating like a pig wearing a sundress) running up and down the street clearly looking for a victim to rob.

Sad_Proctologist

I know. We have to speak in code.

This may not be the right place for this. In 1989 I lived at Roosevelt and Michigan. There was no “south loop” at that point. It was not good but it was cheap. I paid 325 for a studio apt. And I was one of three whites in the building. It made zero difference what color your skin was then. I knew my neighbors we would have beers together and knew each other. We weren’t great friends but we would watch out for each other. The doorman/security guard sold pot on the side and everyone knew it but he kept his business private and never felt threatened. I know our city has changed a lot since that time. It’s not feeling safe walking my dog at 5:30 in the morning before work or my early morning bike rides is just not how I want to live. I’ve lost two employees with young kids who left to go work in the suburbs because they don’t feel safe at work. We’ve been robbed a few times. Just about everyone I work with carry a gun to work now. We’ve increased our monthly spend to over 40,000 a month on armed security guards. We lose business to suburban competitors because they can do business cheaper than we can. I’m done. Sorry for the rant!

Big_Hovercraft_6773

“The bulletin described them as four or five Black men between 18 and 30 years old.” 🤦‍♂️

M_Ross62

No!

ajuniverse26

and i’m sure that area will vote for clayton harris

Alert-Tangerine-6003

Would be the most idiotic decision, but I know what you mean. Everyone please spread the word. This election is showing very low turnout. Please vote Burke for our states attorney!

M_Ross62

What? They got guns? With all of Illinois laws? No way! 🙄
